Regardless of producing underground classics like “Jazz auf Gleich” (2013) with Sichtexot rapper Eloquent, researching frequencies below 60 Hz with Hubert Daviz as a tag team (“Vapowavez”, 2018), or escorting you through the cold days of the year, making the experience of winter not being felt that bad (“Snow 1-4, 2016-18”). Wun Two‘s key motivation is the aesthetic standard, he applies to his works.

At the latest since “Pirata” (2019), a musical audio adventure in an English as well as in a German version (voice actors: Ugly God & Twit One), it is clear as daylight, that one does not only deal with a simple beat maker, but also a concept artist. Reggie B returns with his much awaited NBN release "Tinky's Jam.” This is his first full length album since “Soulofunkaquarian” released with INnatesounds. The album was most definitely worth the wait. It takes the listener through a personal and musical journey inspired by the birth of his son, who he affectionately calls “Tinky,” and the connection they share. Tinky was a major part of this album, oftentimes found in the studio during the conceptions of many of the songs. This album is unlike any other record released by the Kansas born producer, multi instrumentalist, singer and arranger. After the birth of his son, he was inspired and encouraged to get back into the musical game by the head of NBN, Onra. "Tinky's Jam" is something of a family affair with friends and old collaborators playing their part.

Born into a musical family to parents who were two sides of the same coin, a father who was one of the most renowned drummers in Topeka, Kansas funk and jazz fusion scenes and a mother who was one of the most prominent gospel singers in the city. The apple didn't fall far from the tree and Reggie has spent his life performing and playing with a healthy slew of releases.

This album is the result of countless days in the studio which yielded scores of a dozen slabs of head nodding funk.

Mostly instrumental and showcasing Reggie's many styles from the heavy bounce of "Futuristic Slow", to the George Clinton nod on "P For Life", and the crafted soul of "Gone Fishing" with Dominique Sanders to the cool street jazz feel of "Realize" with Donald Hates's sax adding flare as well as the beat of "Nose Dive" providing the nod factor for the heads.

Closing out the LP ``Tinky's Dance" - a raw soulful jam that lies somewhere between Prince and Larry Heard - for Reggie "the whole project felt like a gift to me and my baby boy Tinky! “Death Cult & Armenian Paper” is HONE's first and long awaited LP. The 12 tracks feature DMC World Supremacy Champion Nelson Scratch, IDA French Champion DJ Madpressure, DJ T-Killa & Mighty Vinc' and Bonzer.

The beats were crafted at HONE's Antechamber Studio on the MPC 2500 and feature obscure samples ranging from free jazz to electronic soundscape, recorded guitar leaks, synths, heavy drums and solid basses, the whole spiced with haunting percussions.

HONE’s sound is slow, heavy and represents the vanguard of the European beat making movement, while at the same time checking all the boxes of the hip hop code. A style he simply calls “Doom Bap”.

Wandl, the progressive 25-year-old producer, musician and vocalist from Vienna, is back with his second solo album, "Womb". Following the success of his debut release "It's All Good Tho" (2017), an extensive tour with Bilderbuch in Germany, a performance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona (2018) and several artistic projects (2019), "the master of delayed loops" now delivers a self-produced and highly condensed work of about 25 minutes that focuses on the dark chords of the emotional keyboard.

With "Womb", Wandl engages in musical interspaces where potential clarity gradually dissolve into the nebulous blanket of the night. In the midst, Wandl's distinct voice unites with his characteristic soundscapes and the warm euphony of the piano. His songs deal with self-doubt, emotional inhibition, freedom found in loneliness, undesired social acknowledgement, transcendence and the arrival in the womb of an unexpected maternal reconnection. In the end there is even yodeling.

The usual platitudes of the new economy as crude maximization strategies are thus safely ignored: Wandl is a genre unto itself. Something for your mind, body and soul – in the best sense of the word.

Samiyam grew up Sam Baker in Michigan. Wax Tailor finally returns after a long hiatus with his new album “By Any Beats Necessary”. The title references the Malcolm X phrase “By Any Means Necessary”, which was in turn inspired by Sartre’s play “Dirty Hands”. Without going too deep into politics, this reflects the will to use any type of sounds and textures to get to something musical. The word “Beat” also draws a line towards the Beat Generation, Kerouac’s famous “On The Road” novel, and this quest for a better elsewhere. And so, in this time when each of us needs a little escape, I conceptualized this album as a sort of soundtrack to a road trip among the great expanses.

Rather, the formation prefers to build sonic sculptures out of Malik’s range of instruments (including various saxophones, flutes, basses, pianos and string instruments) and propelling these through musical time with Fred Red’s very unique and human drum and percussion style.

While they both enjoy making their listeners move to heavy drums and complicated rhythms, the duo also understands how to create quiet and personal moments in their music, with their works often moving from elegiac, even melancholy moments to a pure celebration of their own drives and determinations.

As their upcoming vinyl release, Monologue, features some of their most cinematic music, the duo decided to lean further into their interdisciplinary approach to making music. Releasing the same day as their album, Malik Diao X Fred Red will debut a music video for their track Dighnasty, featuring various collaborators from the worlds of fashion, light and video art and dance.

Vooo's words about "Same Old", My intention with this record was to refine a collection of the tracks most highly anticipated and requested by fans of my video content where I show the process of recording new songs. I selected each track not only on the basis of its connection with my audience, but also with the goal of curating a record full of emotive instrumental performances, positive moods and pure ear-candy. Many of these tracks were initially written as short-form “beat-video” content, and to transform the demos into full songs, I spent countless hours re-arranging, re-recording, and carefully mixing in a larger studio using high-quality vintage instruments and analog processing methods, particularly 8-track tape. The result is what I consider to be my most elaborate and well-crafted project which has been enhanced by the brilliant talents of the several featured instrumentalists and engineers involved.

Vooo is a multi-instrumentalist & producer originally from Los Angeles, currently based in Oakland. With a degree in music theory and a background in jazz, he has used his experience to dip into a number of genres, mostly in the world of hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul. In addition to releasing two solo albums since 2020, he has executive produced a few full-length records for other artists and created sample packs to raise thousands in mutual aid for the Oakland community. Vooo’s music has been featured on NPR’s New Music Friday, Bandcamp’s Best Soul of 2021 and several Spotify editorial playlists.

Serving as a masterclass in the sacred art of sample chopping, Tuck Chains offers up a platter of instrumentals that wouldn't sound out-of-place coming from LA in the late 2000s. True to its name, Fd013 feels like a mixtape in its delivery, but has a depth and refinement that's difficult to find. Instrumental hip hop of this quality may well have disappeared from the underground but Tuck Chains has successfully iterated on a style guaranteed to bring blunted energy.

"Lock Down", the opening track, quickly sets the scene with metallic and saturated drums. Interspersed with surgical sample chops, the track oscillates between lively and chill after an almost musique concrète sounding intro. This contrast between straight and faded becomes a theme of the album, with moments of intensification punctuating the mellow.

Tracks like "Chrome and Glass" balance fizzy snares, rumbling low end and stabby piano hits to take you on a slow motion coastal journey, while "Ewan Hughes-Army" has an erratic and head-nodding feel that demands your attention. Warbly, downtempo tape vibes feature throughout the release, a combination ripe for repeated, couch-bound listens. With this in mind, "Spanish" feels like the perfect closer - the type of track that oozes sun and THC. Let this be the soundtrack to your hazy holiday.

The Japan / Cold Busted connection tightens with the release of Timeless, a collaborative album from two rising figures from the Land of the Rising Sun. Buzzing in from Chiba, Bugseed has been making a name for himself in hip hop circles with finely constructed beats and clever sample riffs, inspiring a multitude of releases filtering across the globe. The Nagasaki-based DJ Motora is owner of Team Ken Records and 'genreless' DJ since 1997. Together they've concocted Timeless, a densely constructed 12 track album that's filled with gritty hip hop beats and evocative city-dwelling soundscapes.
