The tendency towards advanced beats seems to be more and more a global phenomenon. As we already have said: Decentred beats for decentred people. During the last few years arose also in Russia a small, loosely networked scene of people, who have experimented with Hip Hop-beats. But in this case, the young Russians have no examples or references for this kind of music in the musical culture of their own country. All of their inspirations are taken from blogs and from the intensive study of their role models worldwide. The result is an organic, very playful, snappy and jazzy sound, which is carried by a common vibe, but is in the same way as diverse as the finest egos of the artists themselves.

It’s been more than 20 years since Jon Marshall debuted under his moniker Maurice Galactica as a solo producer of an album experience. A timeless classic “Humanoid Erotica” paved the way for deep spheric instrumental hip-hop as we know it today. Coming out of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marshall better known as fat jon was a co-founding member of Five Deez. The famed underground rap crew formed a loose movement alongside acts such as Black Star and Hieroglyphics in the wake of Rawkus and Soulquarians setting a creative blueprint for an alternative and musically more diverse hip-hop sound, which heavily influences young artists until this very day. fat jon as one of the MCs, but more importantly as the producer of the crew’s eclectic sound merged the “boom bap” of hip-hop breaks with jazzy trip hop elements and dance music aesthetics. Over the years (and by now – decades), Fat Jon established himself as an undisputed innovator of atmospheric hip-hop beat making. A connoisseur of jazz and hip-hop music in all its depths Jon Marshall as fat jon as well as his numerous (both known and unknown) alter egos combines ethereal melody bits and spacey synth pads with dry drum breaks and irresistible bass lines.

All of his craft as a producer and feel for moods can be witnessed once again on his third album as Maurice Galactica, “Plaything: Cipher”, presented by Sichtexot. 15 brand new productions, on which he showcases his extraordinary skill on keys and for layering samples. “I make Maurice Galactica music with a different personality. In my opinion, Maurice’s music is more experimental.”, Marshall describes the project. “‘Plaything: Cipher’ means a lot of things, I’ll give you two examples: One, it means that Maurice himself is a plaything in the center of different influences; being used to channel vibes, sounds and ideas. Another meaning is that the album itself is a musical plaything that needs to be decoded, the listener decrypts the key with each listen. It’s a really fun play on words that gives the music on the album different meanings.”

By chance Sichtexot label head Anton Pfurtscheller, a day one fan of Five Deez, discovered that Jon Marshall had relocated to the wider Frankfurt region living right next to Mainz, where the German imprint is based. The two met up, made plans and as a result the first Maurice Galactica album since 2012 sees the light of day.

In celebration of the Persianate new year usually taking place on March 21st Afghan-German producer artist Farhot announces his follow up project “Nowroz 1401” which translates into “New Year 1401” – the number marking the year according to the solar calendar which is used in countries like Afghanistan and Iran. While Nowroz is being celebrated in several additional regions like Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan or Kirgizstan and partly also in Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Georgia and Turkey – this 3-Track EP pays tribute to Afghan contemporary artists like singer-songwriter Calid, London based Elaha Saroor and rapper Khan all while referencing the golden era of Afghan psychedelic pop most prominently represented by Ahmad Zahir samples – and with that marking this special release as a contribution to preserving Afghan culture and tradition while Afghanistan’s recent brutal occupation by the Taliban continue to threaten and erase Afghan artistic tradition. Further “Nowroz 1401” was born out of the urgent feeling to uphold and celebrate an essential tradition of Persianate cultures so that the following generations of diaspora children don’t lose access to their cultural heritage while not being able to live or visit their countries of origin, where such holidays are institutionalized and therefore experienced as a community festivity.

Esbe is a multi-genre music producer from Los Angeles, California. He is known for his atmospheric instrumental production which incorporates sound elements from extensive use of jazz and soul samples. His latest release, Bloomsday, is a collection of 19 essential instrumentals. "If you were to grab tracks at random from Bloomsday, you might not have guessed that those songs came from the same album. However, when you listen to the album in the way that it was arranged, it will all start to make sense, and you can start to hear how Esbe connects the dots from one song to the next. Esbe draws from a lot of different styles and influences, whether it be soul, hard bop, cool jazz, bossa nova, boom bap, down tempo, jungle, house, or drum and bass, just to name a few. This might sound like he’s unfocused or trying to do too much with his music, but Esbe has a good sense for not overcrowding his individual tracks. In 2006, the slight buzz of a Brooklyn band called El Michels Affair started to sound a bit more like a swarm of killer bees when their instrumental rendition of Wu-Tang Clan’s “C.R.E.A.M.” was released as a 7” vinyl single. The band’s namesake Leon Michels and his production partner Jeff Silverman dropped the single on their boutique label called Truth & Soul, and it created such commotion that it would spawn an entire album of Wu-based covers. In honor of the 15th anniversary of that LP— “Enter The 37th Chamber”—the single is now getting its first vinyl repress in years. “C.R.E.A.M.” is featured on Side A, with its prominent guitars and powerful horns complementing the signature baseline and unforgettable piano hook that practically defined an era of New York hip hop. The B-side “Glaciers of Ice” offers a deeper, melancholic interpretation of the hard-driving “Cuban Linx” banger, with a mood consistent to the A-side, as the drums take a comfortable backseat to the melodic guitars and punchy horn lines. Here's a funky introduction to the two man band Duoya from Sweden. Butter is their debut release, a three tracks EP containing two songs from the upcoming album and one exclusive. As they are perfecting their debut full length album we thought to introduce the project to you with this super limited 7" vinyl to mark the day.

Duoya is the funky brainchild of Gustav Horneij and Dimitrios Karatzios. The two met through a shared obsession with jazz vinyls and later started jamming, eventually forming Organic Pulse Ensemble together. While the project in time would turn into Gustav's one man venture, their creative chemistry was still there when they decided to start sending recordings and song sketches back and forth during the spring of 2020. Which in turn was the beginning of a new musical journey.

Harboring the creativity of both artists, Dimitri being an illustrator as well as a musician and Gustav being a multi-instrumentalist and a song writer. When they get together only good things happen. Specially while jamming, they express themselves freely and come up with crazy groovy music that everyone loves to vibe on.
