Hard to believe, but the last solo instrumental album of the Italo-Viennese Fid Mella was released 7 years ago. During this time, the beat maestro has been anything but lazy, releasing numerous projects with artists such as Crack Ignaz, Torky Tork, Kamp, Silk Mob, as well as top-notch fellow musicians from Italy. Anyone who has ever taken a closer look at Fid Mella's instrumentals knows that his music always works independently of current trends or hypes. Geology is the next album by New Orleans based producer and multiinstrumentalist Ryan T aka friendkerrek, and his second album for underground hip hop label Grilchy Party. Geology was created from the ground up without genre in mind, instead focusing on the very bedrock of the friendkerrek sound. After some reflection, the toolkit took shape: knocking drums, heavy bass, warm synthesizers, and plenty of atmosphere were chosen as the primary building blocks. The resulting songs were largely a departure from the normally sample heavy production of kerrek’s older records with faster tempos and more hand crafted melodies. Whereas previous friendkerrek records fit comfortably into the “instrumental hip hop” genre, Geology spans this as well as many other labels: electro, funk, and house music were all big influences as well. The album’s title comes from the scientific practice of the same name. The earth tells its stories if we know where to look for them, just as there is much emotion and meaning to be found in an instrumental album if we pay attention. Grilchy Party has always appreciated varied, diverse, productions and instrumental albums. This one right here takes things up a notch as it introduces the label as a multifaceted outlet for talented artists who are not afraid to experiment and expand.

Akari Raheem is the brainchild of Lito Akari and F. Raheem. Their album ‘Lost in Variations‘ is a collaboration between two old friends equipped with keys, synths, beats and one restriction: no samples.

British-German jazz rap super group Syrup returns with their second album “The Questions” on Melting Pot Music. Syrup are Twit One (beats), Turt of Summers Sons (rap) and C.Tappin (vocals & keys). Twit One is from Cologne and a true universal artist: producer, DJ, curator and record store-owner are some of the many hats Twit is wearing. Turt is one half of South London duo Summers Sons (the other half is his brother Slim) and best friend with C.Tappin with whom he and Slim form the Lightworks crew. Twit, Turt and Tappin share a friendship and musical partnership based on similar musical tastes and live values since they met in Bristol in 2015. Their first album “Rosy Lee” was released in 2021 on Melting Pot Music.
