Primarily a project that delivers crisp crunchy boom bap, with heavy doses of jazz and soul, and nods to various other genres throughout. The rhodes-laden ‘Groove Definition’ sets the tone, leading into an interpolation of a classic; one simply called ‘Reggie’. ‘Timecode’ raises up the Sp1200 bit-crush levels some more, whilst tracks like ‘Astro’ and the album closer ’Netta’ take things a little deeper. The lead track ‘Gusto’ delivers skippier half-time jungle funk drums, with live bass played by his father and guitar by J-Felix atop the track. ‘Thirty-Eight’ and ‘1991 Broadway’ harp back to classic jazzhop of the golden era, whilst ‘Booooj’ adds a little dancehall swagger into the equation, before the classy string section of ‘Uptown’ swings into play. This album is unashamedly one to nod your head to, and not one to be sleeping on. ‘Gusto’ is Mo Fingaz first full-length project; a 15 track collection of beats and compositions produced over the past two years. Lo-fi hip hop instrumentals crafted together with love, analog drum machines, samplers, live instruments and dusty old vinyl. After being sat on these beats for a minute, it finally feels like time to let them off into the ether.

As instrumental HipHop albums seem to be at an all-time high, ranging from so called lo-fi aesthetics to progressive sounds with electronic vibe, one of Austrian HipHop’s godfathers and OGs on the boards has finally dropped an instrumental album on his own. The title “Experiences“ has been chosen not without reason as it both reflects the personal experiences the artist has gone through in his 25 years plus career but also hint the influences and musical aspects that went into this album.
Flip has tried to give insight into his musical influences that began in the 80ies with groups like Public Enemy or EPMD into the 90ies era with sounds ranging from Native Tongue territory to a DJ Premier or Pete Rock or the DITC producers, when he started making beats on his own for his rap group Texta. You can hear links to other production wizards like J Dilla, Hi-Tec or Madlib that changed the sampling techniques post 2000 with albums like Donuts, Hi-teknology or Madvillain. So yes, „Experiences“ is sample-based but further developed by Flip with original basslines, keys, guitar riffs played by the producer himself.
The final result though is not just a simple look back into the golden era but more a retro-futuristic approach that Flip tried to execute within those sixteen compositions. Additional scratches and vocal chops add more flavor to the tracks and as one song flows with ease into the next one, this makes „Experiences“ an experience for the listener, too. While a lot of HipHop instrumental albums just let some loops run for two minutes, Flip took a more ambitious approach where continued listening to the album will reveal new details and musical ideas every
time.

In doing so, Wun Two‘s intention is not driven by binge-releasing his beats randomly rather than carefully selecting them in order to form them to a thoroughly illustrated album embedded in a lyrical frame work.

After the “Dolphi” EP as part of the “SXT Tracks“ series, the grand album “O Cavalo Vermelho” is being released in 2020. Based on an even more sophisticated sound, Wun Two takes the audience on a journey through a foggy but dry environment on the search for the “red horse”.
Musical support comes from his “partner in crime” Hubert Daviz, label mate Anthony Drawn (saxophone) and the exceptional artist Danae Greenfield (keys) from New York City.

The unconventional producer with German-Turkish roots blurs the boundaries between sample based production and life instrumentation. Fragmented sound recordings of contemporary witnesses lead through this experimental journey. The consistent mood of the concept album is also underlined visually with artwork and video art in his own handwriting.

Side A - Hybris The infinity of the universe. An extraterrestrial research mission emerges from a black hole - a passage between the worlds - and begins its travel to planet earth. One of the ships crashes upon arrival. The remaining spaceships explore the planet, abducting people for research purposes, leaving behind an array of astonishment and paranoia. UFO sightings are increasing, but the authorities deny it. Meanwhile, the aliens decode human biology and are able to create a hybrid: The Missing Link. The future is coming.

Side B - Nemesis Suddenly, world order is falling apart, and faith in humanity is lost when the subsequent alien fleet arrives. Attempts to explain any and all of it, and conspiracy theories wind up in delusion, chaos, fear, pain and vanitas in the presence of the unknown and overpowering. The discovery of a black hole sparks new hope and enlightenment: Time Is Only Space And Sky Is Not The Limit. And so the newly united humanity begins a final journey. The story finds its end with the silence in the passage through space and time - or is the end just the beginning?

After last year’s very successful collaboration “Cool” with Otis Jr. and his standalone project “Muneybeats”, Dr. Dundiff and Jakarta Records team up once more for the beatmaker’s next project called SGJAZZ, a supergroup formed and crafted by Louisville’s finest musicians.
Dr. Dundiff (done different) is a Hip-Hop/Neo-Soul producer based out of Louisville, KY. Producing music since 2010, Dundiff has released a lot of music. Most known for his ongoing collaboration with Otis Junior and their their debut EP “1moment2another” on Jakarta Records receiving wide daytime airplay and recognition from French tastemaker Radio NOVA, as well as 1.500.000 Mio. Streams via Spotify.
SGJAZZ however is a Neo-Soul/Jazz project: All single members and particpants play together as well as they have their own projects. The group spent off days at Dr. Dundiff’s studio in Louisville, KY, playing around and creating the first foundations of the record. Idris Frederick laid down multiple chord progressions over a course of a few days. Dundiff then chopped and arranged these progressions and played drums over them. From there on everyone else wrote their parts to rest of the music. This process was quite quick and efficient and the album was recorded within a few months already. Dundiff then reached out to up and coming vocalists J.Lamotta and longtime collaborator K.Raydio to each write to a song. Though this album is primarily instrumental, these two features further establish the vibe SGJAZZ effortlessly creates.

Originally released on Dusted Wax Kingdom in 2010, Late Night Headphones Vol. 1 is the first part of a three part series from multi-genre producer Esbe. Esbe is based in Los Angeles, and through releases on Dusted Wax Kingdom, Cult Classic, and Cold Busted (which issued his acclaimed album Bloomsday), he’s proven his sublime beat-making acumen. ‘Oak Dreams’ is the third collaborative release from London-based lyricist Benny Diction and Melbourne producer Able8, following their ‘Spring' EP and ‘Life Moves’ album. The seeds of the project were sown one August, when Benny chose to swap the English summer for the Australian winter and essentially move in with Able for a month.

Between shows, tram rides and copious bowls of laksa, the pair set about putting together their third release. The process was different from previous projects as working in the same physical space facilitated a more direct dialogue between them, allowing Benny to have more input on production.

Although they initially had more fresh recordings, they eventually eschewed quantity for quality to narrow it down to these 6 tunes.

The EP begins with ‘Connected’, Benny’s opening bar serving as a concise comment on his climatical exchange at the time: ‘It’s scarves in August, so we warm it up’. This then segues into ‘Round Again’, where he delivers a double-time flow over a Wurlitzer-driven trap instrumental, concluding with the closing line: ‘In this short life, I spread love, knowing in due time, it comes round again’.

This is followed by ‘FFWD’, where Benny is joined by Perth-based emcee Mathas to analyse the advancements that have been made in society, along with the advantages and disadvantages that they entail. Benny’s focus is technology, whilst Mathas’ is medicine. The EP then takes a break from the vocal tunes with the haunting instrumental track ‘All Year Round’, again revisiting the ideas of seasons and cycles introduced earlier on.

The following tune, ‘Oak Dreams’, on which the EP is based, finds Benny drawing parallels between the growth of trees from seeds and the creative process, bringing thoughts and ideas to fruition and manifesting them in reality, inspired after Able sent Benny the euphoric, uplifting instrumental of the same name. The project then concludes with closing track ‘On Balance’, where Benny exchanges bars with longtime collaborator MNSR Frites about the proverbial plate spinning they perform as part and parcel of London living.

Oak Dreams also features cuts from veteran turntablists Rasp and Sugai, as well as contributions from musician friends who bring live flute, saxophone and guitar to the mix. Benny even plays keys on a couple of tunes!

Flughand and and Smuv, 37 and 27 year old producers from Germany, collaborate on their debut EP “Fluo”. They are both giants in the streaming game and known for their laid back, dreamy, lofi hip hop beats. They are two of the most well-known artists in the genre of lofi, with streams counting more than 100 million clicks. BeatPete, a fellow German and widely respected DJ, is the link here for the release on KingUnderground. BeatPete is a friend of KU owner, Dan Englander, since they met on a tour in Berlin in 2015. Es-K (Essential Knowledge) was born in Holland, raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and currently lives in Burlington, Vermont. He made waves with his monthly Spontaneous Grooves releases, where a set of instrumental tracks are created in one sitting — 24 editions were released. Since then, Es-K has remained prolific with a plethora of self-released beat-constructions and albums for Cold Busted, including 2016’s acclaimed Passages. Es-K has a workman-like ethos of beat-making, with creative and top notch hip hop soundscapes constantly pouring out of his Vermont studio.

ReCollection, Es-K’s latest offering on Cold Busted, ups the ante with 24 evocative beat-based compositions representing a variety of moods and contexts. From the sparse, slightly ominous opener “Hydrgn” the listener knows this is a different kind of beats record. “Flrn,” for example, is deep and textural, owing influence to futuristic ambient as well as boom bap hip hop. There are also nostalgic, dream-like moments, such as the loping and exotic “Ptssm” and the mutant quiet storm funk of “Mngns.” The titles are indeed code for the elements, and the elements of Es-K’s production are just as varied. ReCollection is a chemistry course of smooth beat concoctions.

Hypnotic, hazy and floating on a heavy but effervescent cloud, Nobody’s “All Too Familiar” album sees the producer delving into his formative years as a college radio DJ when his sonic palette blossomed. With hip-hop as his foundation, and a newly found affinity for indie and alternative rock leading him to pick up a guitar, the doors to creating music outside of samples was opened. Equal parts Can, Radiohead, Tortoise, plus early DJ Shadow/Mo Wax and the amalgamation of all these sounds has brought forth his first fully instrumental solo record sans samples and primarily written on his guitar.

The idea of including his family picture for a release had always been on his mind and this album afforded him the opportunity, made especially fitting as his main inspiration was revisiting his own early sounds and influences. He also enlists the aid of old friends and collaborators such as Blank Blue bandmates Brian Martinez on bass and Andres Renteria providing a unified yet varied drum sound throughout, Damon Aaron who played in the “live” interpretations of his early recordings adding guitar layers and frequent partner in beat production Eureka The Butcher (Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez) on keys and synth with Zach Burgenbauch rounding out the cast and lending his deft touch on the string arrangements.

The Sons are signed to MPM where they have released two albums (“Undertones” & “Uhuru”). In February 2019 Summers Sons will play their first German tour together with Children of Zeus. Slim has released instrumental cuts on KO-OP, Brownswood and Banoffee Pie, plus a beattape on Yogocop Records. Joe Corfield hails from Birmingham and has released a string of albums via Radio Juicy and Yogocop. He is coming with his very own sound. Futuristic and soulful, with a great ear to detail. By releasing „Lush Space Daze“, Nelson Brandt aka Knowsum puts out his third solo album and accomplishes the transformation from Hip Hop beat maker to song writer and performer. Knowsum’s previous releases include a myriad of beat-EPs, various rap releases – especially under the name „Nepumuk“ and as 50% of the duo Luk&Fil – as well as the two solo LPs „Hyasynthus“ (Vol. 7 of the legendary beat series „Hi-Hat Club“ via Melting Pot Music, 2015) and „Play God & Shit Happens“ (via Money $ex Records, 2016). Regarding sound and groove, the discography of KNO is too unique and has too much confidence in style to ever becoming tired of listening to it. Now, „Lush Space Daze“ is the logical advancement within the sound universe of the musician from Offenbach (Germany) and probably his most complete album being released on his homebound label Sichtexot. „Did you know that your brain can play some silly games with yourself?“ (‚Jump‘) Guitar riffs, having been delicately effectuated to death, merge with synthesizer pads in 80’s style neon, and are, at the same time, overshadowed by a frontman, who probably would have risen to an all time legend during the golden age of the Krautrock underground. Despite the mix of almost a dozen of different styles, the album could not sound more homogeneous. Because Knowsum creates a bizarre sound image by the self-taught use of guitar, bass, synthesizer and drum computer blending in with his vocals. The special mood and the vocals function perfectly on a funky beat with a concise bass line (‚Late Night Things‘) as well as on a fragile e-piano soundscape (‚Plastic Dreams’, ‚Blue‘) or an acoustic guitar (‚Dispair‘, ‚Daydream‘). In spite of the often very experimental structures of the songs, with sometimes catchy, but in many cases weird melodies and the countless details, all of them stay harmonious and memorable. „Close your eyes and tell me what you see, is it us or is it just you and me?“ (‚Sweet Disguise‘) And for those, who by all means need to pinpoint a genre, may finally decide for themselves, if progressive-pop-nightmares in neon pink, experimental singer-songwriter-funk or yet the post-wave-neo-R’n’B-influences prevail... Love and champagne for the dance floor of those remaining.
