First European vinyl 45 release on Munster Records, featuring the guitar of Deniz Tek. Inspired by artists such as Etta James and Julie London, Lizzie sang a sultry Jazz set around the traps in Sydney. Enthralling fans with her riveting stage presence and seductive voice, around late 2007, she teamed up with Deniz Tek to pursue a lifelong love of Soul music. Deniz's hard rocking background with Radio Birdman is well known. In recent years he has also worked with Scott Morgan, soul shouter from Detroit's Rationals. Together they performed numbers like Otis Redding's 'Respect' and Johnnie Taylor's 'Hijackin' Love' to crazed audiences across the USA. Lizzie and Deniz hammered together a number of songs, with a cover of Aretha Franklin's aby I Love You and the original iece O Me' making the final selection for their initial vinyl release. The recording sessions shook the walls at Hothouse Studio, Melbourne in mid 2008. The Memphis-style rhythm section featured veteran producer and playerCraig Harnath on bass, and drummer Brett Wolfenden, whose great playing and attitude more than did justice to the sound of his 60's vintage Ludwig kit. Stylistically, Mahjongg is boundless and indefinable. From their very first EP through K's Kontpab (released earlier this year), Mahjongg have dabbled in beatbox punk, afro-beat revivalism and junkyard whimsy. The continual shifts in their albums is an earnest attempt to realize global harmonies, but if given only one side of a 7" which side of Mahjongg would come out to play? The Dub Narcotic Disco Plate series provides the answer and "Free Groove Rider" is their most refracted pop statement yet. Using a swirling vocoder and intermittent dance beats, this single flickers like a channel-surfer finding pop sensibilities in between the static. The B-side, a remix by Selector Dub Narcotic (Calvin Johnson), ups the playfulness by reducing the static in favor of an unkempt, bubbling mix of melodica and reemerging synths.

Kendl Winter is constantly on tour, so it's amazing that she somehow found the time to record her new 7" At the Same Time [DBN121;] But we're so glad she did! During a weekend stop-over in her hometown of Olympia, Kendl stopped in at Dub Narcotic to record this 7" that features Kendl, Joe Capoccia on bass, and Austin Cooper on Drums. Selector Dub Narcotic created a remix for the B Side of the album called "The Same Version," and both sides together create the perfect little snack pack to hold us over until she releases her next full-length! Both of these songs stay true to what we've come to love from Kendl; they're homegrown, feet in the dirt, clothes on the drying line in the front yard, sugary country.

This is the seventh release in The Social Registry's ongoing series aptly titled The Social Club. Dispatched monthly via letter-pressed/limited edition 7-inch vinyl and digital distribution, this series presents a full musical array: the established and the obscured, the noisy and the delicate,the tempered and the experimental. The Metabolismus collective has been making music since the mid-1980's, selfreleasingmost of their early material on cassette and vinyl LPs. The band comes from the town of Stuttgart, Germany and creates music that is rooted in the rich tradition of German experimental bands such as Can, Amon Duul, Popul Voh andKraftwerk with touchstones in rock, folk and electronic music. With this release they are joined by Samara Lubelski and provide two beautiful tracks of arboreal shimmer with glimpses of soft 60s psychedelic sheen. Metabolismus do not see themselves as just a band. They evolved out of a typicalEast-Swabian street-folk-punk-band into what they call an "exartperihoppmental workshop". They released 33 tapes in the first ten years of existence and 33 records in the second, and are always in search of new sounds & experiences, concepts& structures, with absolutely no concession to commercialism. In this blend of purity in motive and inspiration grows the seed for "Metabolismusic", which can be grasped as a sort of musical time bomb. Since 1982 they have seen their missionas evoking the etabolic force' through etabolic love' and it's what they still attempt to express.

Every 5 years or so Billy Childish is sited by the current top band as the embodiment of rock ' roll integrity, and every 5 years or so Billy splits his group up and starts again from scratch. With his latest combo, The Musicians of the British Empire, Billy carries on his tradition of home made punk and rhythm and blues. This is what a real rock 'n' roll group sounds like.

"Needle In The Camel's Eye" is the fourth single from The Wolfmen, following hot on the heels of last years limited edition release "Cecilie" and their first two singles on DG. It's a cover of the ENO track from his debut album "Here Come The Warm Jets" and this version has been remixed by Alan Moulder. There are two exclusive tracks on the b-side "Zip Gun" and "Mother Of Mystery". The Wolfmen's debut album is scheduled for a June 2008 release. The Wolfmen are Marco Pirroni (guitars) and Chris Constantinou (vocals/bass). Marco first appeared on stage alongside Sid Vicious in Siouxsie and The Banshees and, with Adam and The Ants, he co-wrote five number one singles and two number one albums. In the 90s he joined Sinead O'Connor as co-writer and guitarist. Chris joined Adam Ant's band in 1982 and went on to work with Junior Vasquez and Guy Chambers, and, in the 90s, formed Jackie Onassid and toured with Iggy Pop. Fabienne Delsol is back with her debut single taken from her forthcoming album 'Between You And Me' which is follow up to her 2004 debut solo album 'No Time For Sorrows'. Dispatched monthly via letter-pressed/limited edition 7-inch vinyl and digital distribution, this series presents a full musical array: the established and the obscured, the noisy and the delicate, thetempered and the experimental. The press release for The Social Club makes reference to these editions being akin to postcards, and this one is a postcard in the truest sense. It captures a moment and represents a place of sorts. If you walk down Canal Street on any given night, odds are you will hear the sound of Messages coming from a fifth floor walkup. If you stopped,you would hear it go on for hours and it would be the sound of Tres Warren (of Psychic Ills) and Taketo Shimada mashing sine waves, bass loops, guitars, samplers and turntables into a storm in between bouts of playing techno and psychedelic improvrecords. The resulting sound consists of slowly shifting repetitions, heavy monotone low end and smoky echoes that conjure unexpected subsonic grooves. PSYKIK VOLTS were an original New Wave band formed in 1978, inspired/influenced by bands like THE CLASH, SEX PISTOLS etc. They were all aged around 18 at the time of releasing their self-financed single and it was their first time in the studio, hence some of the rough & ready bits (feedback, bum notes etc.). They considered themselves more 'New Wave' than 'Punk' at the time as the initial wave of punk bands had died down by then. A very DIY band, they designed the picture sleeve, had it printed and stuck them all together their selves! John Peel played the single quite a lot on Radio 1, and it was subsequently repressed on the MHG label after the initial 1000 copies had sold. They released another 500 copies (in plain white sleeves). The band got signed shortly afterwards to Graduate Records (UB40 etc.), who recorded 3 songs but never released them. They split at the end of 1979. Vik & drummer Mick Reed then got signed to Rockburgh Records in 1980/81 & released a single called "Wooden Heart", calling themselves POPTONES (after the Public Image song). "Totally Useless/Horror Stories No. 5" was featured in Record Collector magazine in 2006 in their 'top 100 rare punk singles' list & valued at £50.This single will be followed by a CD compilation of all the bands tracks as well as full sleevenotes and rare photos etc.

The music of Seapony is refreshing in its simplicity. Most songs use no more than three chords, with an average running time around two-and-a-half minutes. Other bands make a fuss about coloring outside the lines, but Seapony aspires to the reverse, making each ditty distinctive while operating within the same basic sonic framework: Fuzz-drenched guitar playing simple chord progressions, topped with concise melodic hooks and singer Jen Weidel's breathy vocals. In lieu of a human drummer, the Seattle trio entrusts timekeeping to a vintage gizmo the size of a desktop calculator. Xray Eyeballs is the brainchild of O.J. San Felipe. Originally from San Francisco, O.J. landed in Brooklyn in 2000 after numerous cross-country adventures. Upon settling, O.J. quickly cemented himself in the underground Brooklyn punk, noise, and indie scene playing in numerous bands including Golden Triangle (Mexican Summer, Hardly Art). While Golden Triangle is known as an all around party band that bashes out garage pop tunes that could easily be found on a Nuggets compilation, O.J. had something else in mind for Xray Eyeballs. Starting as a solo project, O.J. aimed to make pop songs that kids could remember after leaving the party. O.J. explains, "I just wanted to make every song sound like a lullaby." This is complicated, and largely made up, so pay attention. Joe Pernice is a recording artist, who, once upon a time, had a multi-dollar deal with Sub Pop as a member of the bands SCUD MOUNTAIN BOYS and THE PERNICE BROTHERS. This was before you were born. After a mutual parting of the ways between label and artist, he started his own record label and continued to record under various noms de plume. He also became a novelist, and his first novel, "It Feels So Good When I Stop" will be published by Riverhead Books in August 2009. In said book, the narrator, who is not Joe, is in a band called THE YOUNG ACCUSER for a short time. After the fictional narrator leaves this fictional band, they record a fictional song called "Black Smoke (No Pope)" and send it to the non-fictional Sub Pop. This is the non-fiction version of that fictional single. Of interest may be the fact that a cover of an even earlier, more fictional "Black Smoke (No Pope)" was recorded by the non-fictional Joe Pernice and appears on the non-fictional companion CD to his novel. That CD is called "It Feels So Good When I Stop (Soundtrack)" and it will be released on his Ashmont Records, also in August 2009.

If it had to be chosen an unconventional project among the spanish progressive scene in the last few years, without any doubt the asturian band ZEM would be the one. Lead by the virtuoso vibraphonist Xuan Zem, together with members from LOS ILEGALES, their debut album was released in the beggining of 2008. Telepathe are a fluid and process-orientated band that ebb and flow through various genres of music all the while creating their own mysterious sound.
