On june 9th 2023 Capitane Records will re-issue the 20th Anniversary of Adam Green's Friends of Mine. For fans of Green and his band The Moldy Peaches, it may be hard to believe that it has been twenty years since those early days of the 2000s when the indie rock world was set ablaze by a new generation of artists, composers, and songwriters. Within what felt like only a few months, bands like The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Libertines, and The Moldy Peaches, provided indie music audiences with fresh iterations and interpretations of the rock and roll canon, with influences that included both standard bearers like The Velvet Underground, Television, The Stones, The Doors, The Stooges, Leonard Cohen, The Modern Lovers, and Bob Dylan, and also more recent artists like Beck, Daniel Johnston, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Will Oldham, Pavement, and The Silver Jews. The results varied between straight up rock and roll and punk rock with a songwriting, folk-inspired, consciousness. Gone were the ripped-up jeans and flannels of yore. Tight trousers and leather jackets ruled the day.

It was on the heels of the success of his band The Moldy Peaches (who signed along with The Strokes to Rough Trade Records in 2001 and subsequently toured alongside them) that Adam Green wrote and recorded Friends of Mine, the seminal album that would define a new direction in his career. Diverging from the home-recorded, 8 track-analog framework of his previous albums, Green adopted what then seemed like a distinctly hi-fidelity sound, complete with a full band, crooning vocals, and a string section (with arraignments by Jane Scarpentoni). Friends of Mine drew on the work of Serge Gainsbourg, Scott Walker, and Frank Sinatra, while its lyrical content felt as if derived from symbolist poetry and the surrealism of Brecht and Dylan. The result was something altogether new, a record that could feel both touchingly sad but also sardonic, satirical, louche, and even laugh-out-loud funny. Songs like "Jessica" would become anthems to a new generation of young indie rock fans both in the United States and Europe.

Capitane is proud to release Friends of Mine as a double LP, with a second disc of outtakes, B-sides, and live versions. This deluxe edition features notes on the songs by Green, a text which provides new insights into his often cryptic lyrical methodology along with anecdotes from the days when these songs were composed. Also featured is a conversation between Green and Dan Myers (producer), Steven Mertens (bass player), Matt Ramono (drummer) and Larissa Brown White (Adam's manager at the time). The five old friends do a deep dive into the production of Friends of Mine, as reflect more broadly on that bygone era. The 2023 edition of Friends of Mine is a testament to an artist and an album that stand the test of time.

Forget Haikara, Apollo, Kalevala, Elonkorjuu... Kalevi Falk's eponymous album from 1971 may be rarer than any of those. Kalevi Falk were on Blue Master, the label also responsible for Apollo, and nobody is sure how many copies of their only LP were eventually sold or printed. Kalevi Falk continued playing until 1975 but due to everchanging lineups they never did another record. Although Kalevi Falk at the time was mostly known as the backing band for schlager stars such as Carola, their own work is a different bag. Ranging from a Beatles cover to psychedelic songs about vampires, this retro oddity has it all. The Svart reissue comes with the original gatefold layout and adds a new interview with a few of the band members.

After more than a decade out of print, Jawbox's second full-length album, Novelty, is finally back on vinyl. Novelty was recorded at Arlington, Virginia's Inner Ear Studios in January of 1992 with producer Iain Burgess. J. Robbins, Kim Coletta and Adam Wade formed Jawbox in July of 1989. Not long after, the band began to tour and record, releasing its first EP, Tools & Chrome, in 1990 as a split between Desoto and Dischord Records. Following the release of the Jawbox's debut LP, Grippe, on Dischord in 1991, the band recruited a second guitarist, Bill Barbot. In 1993, Jawbox left Dischord to sign with Atlantic Records, where it would release two more albums--For Your Own Special Sweetheart and Jawbox--before disbanding in 1997. The record has been remastered and recut by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Studios and will be pressed onto clear-colored vinyl with revised artwork. The LP also includes a digital download coupon featuring the original album tracks plus the 2-song Tongues single.

Some painful subjects are woven into the pop-rock and orchestral sounds. From the slow-burning “Spinning” to the razor sharp single “Swim”, it’s a versatile and colourful album.

Jack’s Mannequin is the side project of Andrew McMahon from pop punk band Something Corporate. They recorded three albums during their existence. McMahon crafted some incredible pop songs for the band.

The album, which also contains bonus track “Miss California”, is available as a limited edition of 2500 individually numbered copies on silver vinyl.

Fear not, though, as their fuzz-infused blues is alive and kicking and is sure to continue to appeal to a lot of fans of different genres. The three songs follow as their lengths increase, starting with “Age Has Left Me Behind”, clocking in at 03:47 and ending with “Going Down Swinging”, a 10:20 jam which definitely raises the temperature and which I’m confident will be talked about for a long time. It was quite chaotic putting this album together. It’s recorded in 5 different locations. Rehearsal rooms, a living room, a super professional studio, high and low really. I guess it was quite a challenge for Robert Ekholm to do the mixing. It was also some personal challenges at the time which resulted in John Hermansen doing the vocals. John is an incredible singer and an awesome dude, we’re very thankful he helped us keeping the band rolling. The album was supposed to be released earlier than it was but due to all kinds of stuff out of our control it took some time. In the middle of this chaos was the music, the constant in an ever changing universe. It’s an album we’re proud of and we still play many songs from it live.

Title Fight released Kingston, their debut 7", in February 2008 on Flight Plan and Attic Records. Shortly after its release, both labels went defunct and the three-song EP was re-released in 2009 on Six Feet Under Records with an updated layout. This was the first era in which Title Fight was leaving their hometown, traveling around the Mid Atlantic and New England on weekends and on breaks from high school. In summer of 2009, the band released another three-song 7", The Last Thing You Forget, in the middle of their first full-US tour and "Memorial Field," "Loud And Clear," and "Youreyeah" were then included on the CD and digital versions of that release. Since then, this EP has remained out of print in its original format. Purple Circle has now reissued Kingston on a 7" for the first time in 14 years, returning to the original 2008 layout and remastered by Will Yip at Studio 4.

To stay gold, turns out all he needed was some new tricks.It was a little space_in time, location, and method_that inspired DeMarco while making the record. Moving from his isolated Queens home to a house in Los Angeles helped give the somewhat transient Canada-native a base, and a few more months on his calendar to create did their job as well. Arriving in California with a grip of demos he'd written in New York, he realized after a few months of setting up his new shop_complete with a few new toys_that the gap was giving him perspective (insert tooth joke here).Right off the bat, from the pops and clicks of the CR-78 drum machine and acoustic strums on the album-opening "My Old Man," the synth-drenched beauty of the second track, "This Old Dog," it's clear that DeMarco's bag is filled with new tricks indeed. This Old Dog is rooted more in a synth-base than any of his previous releases, but he is careful not to let that tactic overshadow the other instruments and overall "unplugged" mood of the work: "This is my acoustic album, but it's not really an acoustic album at all. That's just what it feels like, mostly," says DeMarco.Despite the changes considered during the creation of This Old Dog, Mac DeMarco's mid-twenties masterpiece, it's clear that the engine that motors him is in no danger of slowing down.

Developed over six years of prototyping, he fully realised the Moodswinger for them with commissions from numerous other musicians to follow. The indieverse is slopping wet with reverb right now. And so are the songs of Gauntlet Hair. But the band uses the effect in a wholly different way than their peers. Instead of using reverb as a gauze, Gauntlet Hair uses its curvature and decay to form and push the melodies, to further shape the songs. Andy R.'s guitar strikes on "My Christ" leave these twinkling chemtrails behind then, each getting thwacked through with Craig Nice's huge-ass snare cracks. It's unrelenting in the way that Jane's Addiction or INXS could be. B-Side "Need to Retire" is a blink-and-you'll-miss it pop torpedo with a grinning, super-market singsongy "oooh oooh oooh" chorus. Meanwhile, the second B-Side track "Minimal Armageddon" is almost like a peek behind Gauntlet Hair's creative curtain. It paints an unsettling, barren landscape, with a lone menacing guitar egging on the white, metallic explosions on the horizon.

Imagine 100,000 drummers taking a break from a wank to practice drums in the basement of their parents' house. Everybody hates a drummer. Drummers all feel it. But drummers seem to love each other. Nobody knows why - or nobody bothers to ask them. Man Forever decided to sally forth to unknown climes - be it a moon landing - in the lunar module or orbiting in the commandmodule- who the F cares. Kid Millions wrote and recorded a piece in February of 2010 with a little help from his friends.Then he got the stupidest idea in the world: play this stuff live; take this shit on tour. He was bewildered by the enthusiasm of his admired compatriots. The drummers all came from the country without borders - the land of the helpless rats crawling around desperately in search of a scrap of PASSION, INNOVATION, ROCK, ENERGY, ACTION. They found it themselves. People don't "found" movements for nothing anyway. They found themselves and decided to create this twisted gnarled mass of a cataract to play live. Cut to Bloomington: the heart of the rock science movement and the home of the patrons of this project. Those wise men and women hosted the performance you now hold in your hands. Man Forever was just arriving in the lunar orbit. The module's detached and descending to the surface. Some of them are out of contact with mission control. The rats are scurrying everywhere now. 180g Vinyl!This first collection of material recorded and assembled by Re: comprises 11 songs culled and coaxed from an unruly pile of 4-track cassette and DAT recordings made by (then) Boston-based Aden Evens and Montrealer Ian Ilavsky (Sofa, Silver Mt. Zion) during the late 90s. Mnant is an album of remaindered and recuperated sounds, densely layered, treated, filtered and mangled on computer. It is electronic music full of impurities, pulled from an archive of live performance and incidental field recording, guided by no rules beyond an attempt to make the right move at every turn, letting one loop or sound fragment suggest the next in an additive process that took three years of cross-border visits to realise. The result is a highly original series of tracks that defies easy categorisation and sits as comfortably alongside the work of This Heat or Village Of Savoonga as it does anything labeled 'electronica'. Beats are sometimes overt, sometimes implied, and the whole is like an entire city sampled and summoned in sound.

Frankie Sparo's third release is a little masterpiece of highly original, stylistically diverse songwriting. 180g Vinyl!This 3-song EP of fractured, tape-infested experiments is an intransigent slab of self-referential auto-criticism. The band was sticking to its agenda of acutely self-conscious musical manipulations, re-working its own materials and assumptions to yield new compositions of uncompromising formalism. Side A is a medley of sorts, consisting of phrases and fragments reconfigured and replayed from their self-titled debut (Fly Pan Am). Various melodies are reassembled and played off of one another, creating an extended live remix with blissful passages of layered guitars, drones, sampled backing vocal lines, and the requisite incidental noise break in the middle of the piece. The result is something like a 'Stars On 45'-style musical encapsulation of the entire debut record. Side B contains a new piece of somnambulist clockwork repetition, with the band laying down a strict, static groove while various tape manipulations penetrate the mix to create polyrhythms, dissonances and additional textures. This is prime anti-funk, invoking early Talking Heads along with all things krautrock, and driving home the EP's subtitled intent: "stereo-stupefiant".

180g Vinyl!Recorded at a cabin in the country, all the original Exhaust elements - ultra-low-end bass moan, loping breakbeat trapkit, live reel-to-reel tape scratch - remain at the core of this album. Spliced and diced at the original Hotel2Tango during mixing, the record is an excellent slab of punk-minimalist collage. Bassist Gordon Krieger adds bass clarinet on several tracks, while Mike Zabinski (tapes) and Aidan Girt (drums) deploy loops, signal processing, machine noise and live beats around slow, stripped-down, see-saw bass guitar. The result is a paranoid late-night roam through the proverbial deserted city, picking up the occasional sinister, garbled transmission along the way. Refreshingly absent are the endlessly self-replicating strains and sounds of electronica; Exhaust focused squarely on its own organic playing (and broken gear) to craft these electronically-processed tracks, without facile recourse to the 'add-some-blips' strategy that plagued so much so-called post-rock. Aidan's 1-Speed Bike DJ alter-ego is integrated back into Exhaust's live trio context. Rather than re-mixing stand-alone tracks as he did on the Exhaust debut, he cuts, pastes and filters his rhythms all over the record. Combined with Gordon and Mike's forays into sound art and sound environment recordings, all three members put their heads and ears together to execute a series of controlled experiments sourced from their distinct and deliberate palette of riffs and melodic passages.

It's our 6th album now and the firs album with the Amazing Clone Drum Set !!!, we started in 1986 the recordings and the songs went trashier and more Fuzz and Feedback every year _.. for this record we bought our own home made studio with mixing desk and a 1 inch tape machine and microphones from the trashcan, Pumi our Live Mixer and Janosh recorded it in a week, for the first 1000 copies we did a 1000 pice puzzle and a pox as a sleeve_ but that item is sold out already now we present you the official version of this TRASH PICE, when we started making the songs for this record I had no lust to write any lyrics to that so we made up most songs free and I sung what I felt like to sing.. it's anyway all about killing killing some more the falling in love and get killed go to hell and having fun down there_THIS RECORD IS FULL TRASH, I DON'T THINK THAT ANY SERIOUS RADIO STATION GONNA PLAY THIS BUT IF SO_ THEN WE HAVE A CHOISE TO GIVE YOU ON YOUR WAY_ PLAY LOUD AS POSSIBLE_we recorded is loud as fuck, so the neighbours came over a view times while we recording that record..but even better is if you come to our shows and we blow your brain away in one second !!!

this is a film soundtrack for the Movie 'Flammend herz' by Andrea Schuler and Olifr Rutz.. the movie is about the Oldest German Tattoo Parlour and his owner Herbert Hofmann who is a legend him self.. now 85 jears old and his friend who are both 90 jears old are from the head to the food full on tattooed and every tattoo tells a more unique story.. and the same is it with the soundtrack who won the first price at the Bienale in Berlin Germany (germanys most important film festivals).. the music to the movie is all instrumental with elements of easy listening to country 30's Jazz jango reinhard style over to blues and sicilian funeral music.. the Dead Brothers shows us again how bright the specrum is and how great this music is... this is funeral music at it's best !!! the LP comes with a printed innersleeve and the CD is in a Digi Pack with a little booklet with pictures from the movie and the band cover artwork was made by Laura Satana a tattoo artist from Parismastered at: echo chamber in Zurich
