Release Info //Yuri Landman is a Dutch experimental luthier who has made several avantgardistic electric string instruments for a bunch of artists including Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Liars, Blood Red Shoes etc. This release is a colloboration of him with JadFair (Half Japanese) & avantgarde sound artist Philippe Petit.Bio // YURI LANDMANYuri Landman (1973) is an experimental instrument builder and musician. After a career as a comic book artist as well as a musician in the bands Zoppo and Avec-A, Yuri Landman began designing experimental musical instruments. Based on prepared guitar techniques, he built his first instrument in 2001 to solve the inaccuracy of instant preparations. In 2006 he got in contact with Liars. Developed over six years of prototyping, he fully realised the Moodswinger for them with commissions from numerous other musicians to follow. Yuri has custom built derivatives for such musical luminaries as Sonic Youth, Half Japanese, Enon, Lou Barlow, dEUS, The Dodos, Blood Red Shoes,Liars, HEALTH, Liam Finn, The Luyas, The Veils, Melt- Banana, Micachu & The Shapes, The Go! Team, These Are Powers, Kate Nash, Women, Action Beat, Peter James Taylor, Rhys Chatham, Dustin Wong, Philippe Petit and others.Around 2008 he started giving lectures and presentations with his instruments, leading to a request in 2009 for a practical building workshop. This became the rise of the Home Swinger project. A Gesamtkunstwerk consisting of a DIY-workshop where people build their own electric instrument and often followed by an afternoon rehearsal on the second day and a 40 minute ensemble performance with multiple Home Swingers, drums, basses, and guitars in the tradition of the Rhys Chatham and Glenn Branca compositions. We have long held a flame for Furrier, the Grumbling Fur album on the icy cool Aurora Borealis label. We quickly invited them for a session - but with little expectation of anything happening in the near future. This was a group whose members define the word prolific - O'Sullivan himself had at least four bands on the go at the time. Still, we're nothing if not hopeful. Lo and behold, he Fur came back with not only a date for recording, but the tantalising prospect of a new sound - more focussed and stripped back - with more op' sensibilities coming to the fore. The results are stellar. As soon as the loping breakbeat and pentatonic piano run of "Wylderness Waiting" kicked in, we knew he Fur had created something very special on our behalf - the extra space and minimal approach providing a wonderful backdrop to Alex and Daniel's instantly recognisable lyrical harmonies. BRONZE is an exercise in impulse. BRONZE is also the San Francisco based trio of Brian Hock, Rob Spector, and Miles Friction the latest addition to the RVNG Intl. family with their debut album, "Copper". Stream-of-consciousness lyrical cooing and restrained analog trickery rest atop constant cog rotation grooves on "Copper". These elements yield a truly conductive album, abundant in compositions that beg for a listener's oxidizing ear. Commencing with "A Showdown Of Sorts", the record assumes a vague narrative aided by the allure of Tuxedomoon / Ralph Records-y exoticism, albeit less claustrophobic. "Showing Them" staggers into even Wierd-er territory, with eye flashes and spots of Legendary Pink Dots. "So Slow" and "The Rouge Became" are sister tracks fallen not far from the same Silver Apple(s) tree. "Wits" and "Fumes In Suits" counter clockwork like a high-pressure Units track and place Copper in the lexicon of San Fran synthesized and syncopated anti-stardom. Each vinyl copy of Copper comes with a copper ring. The ring is intended to be worn to BRONZE performances or even during daily rituals. While wearing the ring, you, the ring bearer, are encouraged to speak informally - if not offensively - with fellow ring mates. When overheard or confronted, blame it on the ring - i.e. "It was the copper talking." The ring will initially turn your finger green.
