Mona Mur - a name that stands for a smoky-cool voice, manic-intense performances and an illustrious list of changing musicians. She is not only a singer but also a songwriter and producer. Folk rock / power pop band THE Summer Suns formed in Perth, Western Australia in 1986 as one off project to release Kim Williams’ songs “Honeypearl” & “Rachel Anne”. The popularity of the single saw The Summer Suns become a more permanent fixture in the Perth scene, 1986 – 1996, releasing records on most of the world’s best indie labels including Easter, Waterfront, Bus Stop, Parasol, Spring & Get Hip.

Although plying his songwriting trade in other bands and other genres, Williams never entirely gave up on his love for melodic music. After some time playing sadcore then garage rock he formed THE Love Letters with Katherine Browne, playing music very much like The Summer Suns unplugged.

In 2013 with a stockpile of tunes he began working simultaneously on a new Summer Suns album and a Love Letters album with different versions of some songs to appear on both records. With Williams playing most of the instruments and producing the recordings, time took its toll. Katherine Browne quit to concentrate on her real career leaving Williams to decide what to do with the two projects. With about 30 recordings to choose from he decided to edit it down to a single project under THE Summer Suns banner. Thus Eulalie was born & self released in a limited vinyl edition of 100 copies, each numbered and with a unique vinyl colour and photo taken by Kim. With literally no publicity at all the album quickly sold out.

With demand for this now impossible to find folk rock / power pop LP increasing over the years, Hanky Panky Records is set to reissue it in a limited edition of 250 copies with improved detailed cover and 2 bonus tracks!

ES is Maria Cecilia Tedemalm (vocals), Katy Cotterell (bass), Tamsin M. Leach (drums) and Flora Watters (keyboards). Their 2016 debut EP, Object Relations, released on influential London punk label La Vida Es Un Mus, was described as "mutant synth-punk for our dystopian present" (Jess Skolnik, Bandcamp, Pitchfork). The band has since become a vital presence in London's underground DIY music scene, as well as having toured the UK with the Thurston Moore Group in 2017.

Less of Everything. The title of Es' first full length LP could be interpreted as a manifesto pledge, an outright demand or a purely literal sonic descriptor of the London quartet's glacial form of punk rock music. This tension between intent and interpretation has been a fundamental element of the group's output from their formation.

After a period with members split between Glasgow and London, Es recorded Less of Everything with Lindsay Corstorphine (Sauna Youth, Primitive Parts) in Tottenham in 2019. As in Object Relations, the dynamic between Cotterell's bass and Watters' keyboard is at the heart of Less of Everything's sound: intertwining sub-zero melodies, gothic anarcho-punk influences (think Kukl, Malaria, X-mal Deutschland) and some kind of entirely unlocatable aquatic component. When combined with Leach's precise drumming, the outcome is original and immediately recognisable. Es are a group who know how to leave space, how to strive for minimalism without sacrificing aggression or dynamism.

This dynamic provides the perfect backdrop for Tedemalm's relentless, pointed vocal style. While comparable 'cold' sounding groups might affect an impersonal, safer mode of lyrical or vocal detachment, Tedemalm's strategy is to "push the lyrics as far as I can thematically until they become absurd … overly dramatic ... while still being sincere in the feeling they're trying to invoke. I try to apply as much emotion as I can." The result is something intense but nuanced, confrontational but complex.

Short Fictions have often tried to imagine a better world. Their sophomore LP, Fates Worse Than Death, mythologized their Pittsburgh hometown as a place of great evil and grand inspiration. Doomsday scenarios, shot through with a dash of hope, influenced a set of songs that dipped between neighborhood serenity and desperate calls for community. Every Moment of Every Day answers their own anguish by finding moments of growth amid unrivaled chaos.

The band’s third LP exhibits the self-awareness of young adulthood with the united front of collective power. While the band’s literary twist on indie rock and emo remains here, narrative expansions have uprooted comfort in their old ways. “The Great Unwashed” is the band’s love letter to rusted-out screamo, a maze of fraying guitar lines and spurting percussion. Even more surprising may be the group’s most tender odes to emotional clarity, like the spirited ray of light “Heather” or the spires of keyboards built around “To Leave Forever or Die Alone in South Oakland.” Regardless of genre explored, each vignette of Keystone lockdown feels lived-in and banged-up, a window into a world decomposing as quickly as it’s decorated. Written on the road but processed in our current time, Every Moment of Every Day is a warning sign of looming darkness and a welcome mat for whatever may come next. All you have to do is show up.

The A-side "Velvel Motel" (written by Takashi Matsumoto / produced by Eiichi Ohtaki) was a part of the long-seller masterpiece album "Long Vacation" by Eiichi Ohtaki, originally released in 1981. The B-side "Komugiiro No Mermaid" (written by Takashi Matsumoto / produced by Karuho Kureda a.k.a Yumi Matsutoya) is Seiko Matsuda's 10th single, originally released in 1982. Born in Tokyo in 1973 and raised in Kyoto. He made his debut in 1997 as the singer and main songwriter of the band Nona Reeves, which he formed while as a student at Waseda University. Since then, he has been involved in many productions and artists as a music producer, songwriter and composer. As an "80's music researcher," he has written official liner notes for Michael Jackson, Prince, and others, and many of his books have become bestsellers.

Here one has a reissue of a My Dad Is Dead record that never was. Recorded shortly after Peace, Love & Murder, The Pow! EP was intended to be released in the summer of 1987 on Cleveland’s St. Valetine Records, but that never quite happened. Newly signed to NYC’s Homestead Records, it was resolved that the tracks could find a home there, and they were later issued on The Best Defense outtakes compilation on that label. Now, thirty-seven years on, the EP as originally intended is being released. Like its predecessors, Pow! is an isolationist post-punk affair with Mark Edwards performing all musical duties. Pow! features three strong tracks in stunning 45rpm sound, or maybe one should just say it’s really freaking loud and sounds better than the last time around. First is a reprise of “Anti-Socialist,” a highlight from the 1985 debut album. But this is not a mere re-recording, but a new arrangement of the song with additional sections and lyrics, and a more aggressive feel with unmistakable undertones of violence (“I wanna fix ’em with my bare hands”). On the flip is the haunting “In the Morning,” in some ways a foreshadowing of the murderess later meet on “Nothing Special.” Wrapping things up is the instrumental “The Best Defense,” which is about as spritely and engaging as Mr Edwards gets during this era.

Here and there, when least expected, flashes of unpretentious drunken wisdom hit the spot.The record is fueled by the broken drummer's energy, but also a verified writing effort. Those songs will be sung, bonded in the wastelands, to fight against buzzkill.Once active in local politics, Nicolas Belvalette settled down for acting, recently starring in "Tout fout le camp" where he plays his own role. But he's at his best on his turf, small rooms and scroungy festivals, where the great romantic weirdo spits on his tits, crawling under a raving audience. 10 year anniversary edition of the 6th Baby Woodrose album limited to 500 copies on clear vinyl. All Baby Woodrose albums have a different vibe and with Third Eye Surgery they have made their space rock album. For the first time Lorenzo Woodrose integrates the heavy psych of his side projects Dragontears and Spids Nogenhat with the fine song writing of Baby Woodrose. No matter how much the fuzz guitar is wailing or the echo machine is tripping, there's always a good song hiding beneath the rumble. Several of them clocks in at 6 minutes so there are only 9 songs on Third Eye Surgery. Songs like Nothing is Real and Love Like a Flower have an Eastern flavour thanks to the sitar of Vicki Singh while Just a Ride sounds like a trip to India in more than one way.Even though the central songs on Third Eye Surgery like Waiting for the War, Bullshit Detector and the title song are very spaced out there are also a few tunes that sticks out. Dandelion is a sweet and melancholic psychedelic pop song and is also a duet with Emma Acs while Honalie is a dreamy ballad that makes time stand still. Almost.Third Eye Surgery has been recorded in the Black Tornado studio in Copenhagen and is engineered by Anders "Evil Jebus" Onsberg and produced by Lorenzo Woodrose. The artwork is made by German artist Kiryk Drewinski who has worked with the band several times before and also did the artwork for the demo collection Mindblowing Seeds and Disconnected Flowers released in 2011.

A creation of ex-Warm Soda bandleader Matthew Melton and his wife Doris Melton, Dream Machine is a Los Angeles based psych-rock group with a keen ear for vintage sounds. Influenced by classic rock like Heart, Deep Purple, and Iron Butterfly, the group features Melton on guitar, bass and vocals, his wife Doris on organ, synth, and vocals, and Billy Odyssey on drums. After being unfairly cancelled by their former record label, Dream Machine went rogue, moving forward by releasing on Matthew Melton's own Fuzz City Records, and establishing a headquarters on their YouTube Channel where they document their analog recording process and discuss various topics. There's something for everyone on Dream Machine's highly anticipated 3rd studio album: "Living The Dream". It exists in its own space, somewhere between 70s Prog Rock and 80s Synth Pop. In a partial departure from the heavy psych and prog-influenced garage rock they've been previously known for, "Living The Dream" offers something new, with a more developed sound. Some tracks, including "You Forgot To Dream", feel like early 80s synth pop, and "Until Tomorrow" flirts with disco on an otherwise mellow rock track that soon erupts into a compelling synthesizer solo that will sweep all your cares away.

Don’t let the name of the band fool you into thinking this’ll lullaby your brain into a state of theta. This is gamma-wave punk rock and roll, divergent binaural fuzz ripping into focused rapid-fire slash and burn, clear cuts the cop in your head like a chainsaw running on trichlorethylene, short loud and fast like you like it. Pounding your eardrums like a maniac on Benzedrine, slashing your brain like a whipping of razor wire. And when it’s all said and done, maybe you will indeed settle into a theta state of mind. Clear cut the riot police from your brain and give the pine trees room to grow. To free your head, feed the heads of state to the hammerheads, decapitate the heads of state in your mind and bring the dream into the light of day, make your own head the head of state. To understand how something works, sometimes you gotta take a hammer and break it. Mystic Operative manages to balance the unpredictability of post-punk with the groove of garage rock, the fury of hardcore and the recklessness of classic punk. Roll those ingredients into a ball, then watch it roll down the hill and wipe out everything in its path. – Scene Point Blank If you’re into dense, angular, and inventive post-hardcore, this record is a stunner. – Sorry State Records Daydream from Portland deftly maneuver through eleven songs of noisy punk with obvious anarcho leanings and a call for higher consciousness. I do love it when a band incorporates so much into their art and sound that, while it makes my job harder, it only proves that some things just can’t quite be described with mere words. I’m getting hits of everything from Crass, the Wipers, and the Shitty Limits but even then I’m probably shortchanging the band, of which members have previously kicked around in PDX greats such as Physique and Dodlage as well as the Chinchees from Minneapolis. Suddenly, it makes sense why this record is so fucking good. - Razorcake There’s a lot going on, but the hyper-propulsive drums, DEVO-lved guitar stabs, and urgent vocals clatter together in an explosive concoction of progressive punk noise. Thick-necked, spiraling bass riffage and off-kilter weirdness remind me of (a less brooding) Dead AND Gone, or an anarcho-BOREDOMS. Get your ’90s fix without succumbing to nostalgia. Great stuff. – Maximum Rock N Roll

It’s always a good sign when you cannot explain why a band is so awesome. It means something new and inexplicable is at work in their music. Småland, Sweden’s Allvaret is that awesome. The elements are easy enough to define: there are the surf-drenched guitars, the outstanding female vocals and the rock ‘n’ roll frenzy of X – a sound which has been brewing in Denmark and Sweden over the last decade with bands like Masshysteri, THE Vicious, Terrible Feelings, Vana Inget, and NO Hope FOR THE Kids. But there is something more than that, too. Their tuneful hooks take hold of you, drag you deep into their bleak and feral songs and threaten to tear you apart once you’ve been captured. Their music is simultaneously melancholic, frantic, and joyfully danceable. It’s wild and new and something wholly of its own. The energetic melodies that blast through Allvaret’s new album are simply mind-blowing. This Swedish punk band will release their 2nd Album – and it may just be one of the best things that have ever been produced in the history of Swedish melodic punk rock. The anthemic vocals of Sushila are the perfect balance of aggression and sincerity, while the predominantly choppy guitar chords and the drumbeats keep up the motivating energy that drives their music. The ten short and catchy songs that make up this album are simple yet powerful, and the beginning of each new track jolts the listener back into their music. At first, the inability to understand their lyrics may seem jarring to the foreign listener. However, after listening to the entire album a few times, I forgot they were even singing in Swedish! The surf-rocky guitars and snappy punk drumming release sustaining energy, while the passionate tone of the harmonized male-female vocals, at times angry and at times melancholic, create the perfect blend of hooks that will grab you and lead you into a place set up by this musical phenomenon. Any fan of stripped-down garagey punk that is derived from the past but doesn’t live in it would be well-advised to check out Allvaret. Their latest album demonstrates the extent to which they have honed each of their many strengths, re-configuring rather than regurgitating influences and crafting songs which will lodge themselves firmly into the head of any listener, regardless of whether or not he or she can understand the lyrics.

Neighborhood Brats return with their second full length record, and let’s just start by saying it’s a scorcher. The band plays a brand of punk that, had they existed in 1977, would have been right at home on Dangerhouse Records alongside The Bags and The Avengers. That said, “Claw Marks” might just be the first Neighborhood Brats records that truly captures and urgency and energy of the band’s chaotic live show. The record finds the band at the top of their game in terms of songwriting, musicianship, and lyricism. So much so that lead singer Jenny Angelillo says that there are several songs on the album that could easily be her epitaph. “Claw Marks” is an upbeat but beaten down soundtrack to the dystopian nightmare we find ourselves living in. When the band sings “It’s time to check out/We’re being left out” it sounds like a mantra for our time, while the album closes with Jenny singing “Dance with me/Bones, blood, And teeth/Dance with me/Into the Void” over a reverb drenched guitar line provided by the band’s other core member, George Rager, that sounds like it was lifted out of some post-apocalyptic western. It’s all so fucking perfect.

Maybe it’s the endless pieces of soft, soothing music being described as ‘a soothing balm for the stresses of the pandemic age’, but don’t you sometimes find yourself wishing for a solid rock’n’roll record to cut to your core and send your fists soaring towards the sky? Okay, our moshpits may not extend much further than the faces in our living rooms right now, but goddamit, some of us really just want some punk rock to help us feel alive. Here’s where Needles//Pins’ mighty fourth album comes in. From the surging rush of opener ‘Woe Is Us’ (sounds relatable), via the organ-drenched scuffle of ‘Winnipeg ‘03’ right through to anthemic closer ‘The Tyranny Of Comforts’, this is a record that takes your emotional concerns and bundles them up into sweet little packets of raw-throated, chestswelling, moves-into-your-brain-and-never-leaves melody. They’re self-aware too; by referencing Cap’n Jazz’s ‘Little Leagues’ in the opening verse to ‘A Rather Strained Apologetic’, they lay bare that in a less complicated era you might have been tempted to call their take on punk ‘emo’. Hey, come back - OK, it’s not a Jade Tree special, but it’s got the same gravel throated delivery and honeyed approach to melody that Blake Schwarzenbach delivered on ‘24 Hour Revenge Therapy’. Needles//Pins are equally indebted to classic Canadian powerpop like The Pointed Sticks - hell, 1979’s essential ‘Vancouver Complication’ comp feels as much of a reference here as ‘Boxcar’. They know their history, they know their craft, and they know their shit. If you’ve not been keeping count, this all adds up to ‘plenty to love’. Of course you could just ignore everything I just wrote and listen for yourself. What you’ll find is a record that sounds simple on first listen, but offers more layers to peel back the more you listen. It’s comforting, it’s thrilling, it’s… well, it’s not a soothing balm, but it might just be what you need right now to pick you up off the floor and (as referenced on the aforementioned ‘Woe Is Us’) make you shake and shimmer. A future classic? Hell, why not?

Entitled ‘pick OF THE Pops (vol1)’ the LP collects together the most poignant moments in the career of THE HIT Parade, and includes their thoughtful recording for Sarah Records “In Gunnersbury Park”, their tubthumping single for Minty Fresh USA “Hitomi” as well as other cuts, both cheerful and desolate in style, that feature Cath Carroll (Factory Records), Amelia Fletcher (Heavenly and Talulah Gosh) and Harvey Williams (Another Sunny Day and The Field Mice). THE HIT Parade was formed by Julian Henry with his school friends Matt Moffatt and Raymond Watts in 1984 when they released their first single ‘Forever’ on JSH Records. Since then they’ve clung to the sensibilities of pure pop and have become a curiosity item with their retro attitudes and songs about dead writers, disused swimming pools and failed love affairs. Their early vinyl singles were lauded by John Peel, the NME and Melody Maker, the now defunct weekly paper that published Julian Henry’S writing. In the 1990s the band toured alongside Edwyn Collins, The Milkshakes and Sarah Records notables, and signed to Japanese and US labels, releasing a sequence of albums that have since become collectible.

Highlights:Limey and the Yanks' A-side 'Love Can't Be A One Way Deal' is a garage song with a sound pitched somewhere between the Beau Brummels and the Beach Boys.'Guaranteed Love', on the flipside, is an outstanding bluesy number with a stinging fuzz guitar, a concise harp solo and a rousing Bo Diddley-fied groove that has made its way to various compilations since the early 80s and now gets reissued for the first time on a 7" single.This release includes notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine)Details:In California in the mid-sixties, with the British Invasion raging, having an authentic Englishman as the lead singer of your band was an ace in the hole that gave you an edge over the competition. Such was the case with Limey & the Yanks a quintet from Buena Park in Southern California's Orange County. Limey was young Steve Cook, and his Yanks by 1965 were guitarists Gregg DeLorto and Tim Gunne, bass player Bob Batman and drummer Wes Hunsinger. With his blonde Keith Relf-style hair, Steve was a striking front man who fortunately also possessed a decent voice, and with his father managing the group they were soon making waves throughout the area. A victory at a Battle of the Bands at the Hollywood Palladium put them on the map in Los Angeles, attracting the attention of producer Gary Paxton. By this time Wally Downing had joined on lead guitar, replacing Gregg DeLorto who had defected to the Spats.Paxton produced their debut single in late 1965, and it was released in January of the following year on his Starburst label. Paxton's business partner in Starburst was Lloyd Johnson, and the single's A-side was written by Lloyd's son Ken, who also recorded for Starburst with his group Ken & the Forth [sic] Dimension. Paxton had already produced a version of 'Love Can't Be A One Way Deal,' a couple of years earlier with the Rev-Lons, a girl group from Bakersfield, but the version by Limey & the Yanks took a completely different approach, turning it into a lovelorn garage number with a s...

Reggae Film Star is Damien Jurado's 18th full length studio album and the second on his own record label Maraqopa Records. 25 years since his debut album Waters Ave S. came out, Jurado is more prolific, driven and creative than ever. The twelve mystical songs on Reggae Film Star are gorgeously cinematic and feature a rich production and diverse sonic textures. Reggae Film Star was produced by Damien Jurado at Sonikwire in Irvine, CA, with invaluable help from the dream team of multi instrumentalist Josh Gordon and recording engineer Alex Bush. The album was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound.

Go Sailor were a great, short-lived band from the mid-90s who represent a key link in the US indie music chain. Featuring Rose Melberg (Tiger Trap, The Softies, Gaze, Brave Irene, Knife Pleats), Linton (Henry's Dress, The Aislers Set) and Paul Curran (Take A Day fanzine, Crimpshrine, Monsula), they released three great singles and a few compilation tracks, and then went their separate ways. But what records they are! Basic and lovely in their song-writing, they're perfect snapshots of where indie-pop was during that last burst of pre-internet indie activity. Touching on time-honored themes of friendship and love (lost and found), they resonate with honesty and purity of intention. The trio reunited in the early 2010s to play to enraptured crowds at the NYC and Athens Popfests, and their appearance at the Slumberland 20th Anniversary show was the stuff of legend. This album compiles all three of their 7" singles (for Slumberland, Yoyo and Lookout!) and compilation tracks and was first released on vinyl in 2011. Due to pressing plant issues it quickly went out of print, so we are very happy to bring you this new edition, back on vinyl where it belongs with a new insert featuring liner notes and lots of cool band pictures and ephemera.
