oe Stevens' Peel Dream Magazine project has been turning heads and catching ears since late 2017. Stevens is a brilliant writer and arranger and something of a pop scholar; steeped in the history of everything from 60s sunshine pop to 70s kosmische groove to 90s shoegaze and beyond, every Peel Dream album explores new territory and illuminates new corners of Stevens’ roving interest.

The story began with Peel Dream Magazine's debut album Modern Meta Physic, which was released in Fall 2028 and immediately garnered intense interest from music heads attuned to the sounds of artists like Broadcast, Neu!, Steve Reich & Grouper. 2020 brought Agitprop Alterna and its companion EP Moral Panics, records that assimilated shoegaze textures, but put them in service of sharp tunes and a Stereolab-like attention to space age detail. Most recently the band has struck out in new directions with Pad - an album that looks back affectionately at 60s baroque pop, full of sunshine, swing and sophistication.

After some time spent out-of-print thanks to ongoing vinyl production delays, we’re very happy to bring you this fresh new pressing of Modern Meta Physic, this time on beautiful yellow & black splatter vinyl. With the recent release of Pad it’s a perfect time to reassess this terrific record and restock the Peel Dream catalog.

Te, Roy Montgomery, Grouper, Manuel Gottsching. With IV, World Of Echo inaugurates a series of reissues by Japanese guitarist,
Naoki Zushi. Perhaps best known for his stellar guitar contributions to psych folk group, Nagisa Ni Te, Zushi has had a parallel career,
for several decades, slowly releasing solo albums that spotlight his exultant guitar playing. Originally released to CD only by Shinji
Shibayama of Nagisa Ni Te’s Org imprint in 2018, IV has Zushi playing and writing at a peak, its six songs slowly unfurling with a kind
of paradoxical understated grandeur. This is psychedelic guitar music at its most paced and considered, yet given to flights of
inspiration, and in this respect, Zushi sits within a lineage of guitarists who’ve used their instrument both as textural anchor and
improvisatory tool – think of figures like Phil Manzanera and Robert Fripp, but also Roy Montgomery, Liz Harris of Grouper, even Tom
Verlaine on his instrumental solo albums. Like those artists, Zushi locates moments of deep emotional resonance amidst luxuriant
textural and melodic exploration. Zushi’s history stretches back to the mid 1970s. While for many, he first appeared on the scene as a
founding member of noise legends Hijokaidan, alongside Jojo Hiroshige, his musical contributions predate that encounter. He started
out playing progressive rock and improvised music, making home recordings of when he was in high school. He was a member of
Rasenkaidan (Spiral Staircase) alongside Hiroshige and Idiot (Kenichi Takayama), the group that soon mutated into Hijokaidan
(Emergency Staircase). Zushi and Takayama would soon form Idiot O’Clock, in 1982; Zushi also led his own Naoki Zushi Unit, starting
in 1983. But for many, Zushi’s first significant appearance on record was as a member of Shinji Shibayama’s mid-eighties psych-pop
group, Hallelujahs, whose sole album was recently reissued on vinyl. That group mutated into Nagisa Ni Te, and Zushi has played a
significant role as their lead guitarist for several decades. His own solo music has appeared sporadically – Paradise (1987),
Phenomenal Luciferin (1998), III (2005) and IV, with a few recent, meditative offerings, For My Friends’ Sleep (2021) and Nocturnes
(2022). With IV, though, Zushi achieved something remarkable, a kind of extended exploration of the time-altering properties of
echoplexed, hypnotically spiralling guitar interplay. The opening ‘Mirror’, “a song about the mirror inside me,” Zushi explains, starts out
as a lush psych-folk song, slow and gentle, but soon takes to the skies with a cat’s cradle of Fripp-esque guitars, before thick, droning
chords sweep the song to a drowsy coda. ‘Nocturne’ weaves silver skeins of guitar melody around a cyclical chord pattern; it gathers
energy and quiet intensity through insistent repetition. The rest of the album explores the nuance Zushi can draw out of simple
elements, building on what ‘Mirror’ and ‘Nocturne’ offer – the profundity of a chord change; the melancholy of a few quietly sighed
words; the exhilaration of a guitar solo bursting out of the speakers; the subtle shifts in emotional register offered by tone and touch.
Throughout, there’s something quiet, yet ineffable, shading the contours of the songs, such that it makes perfect sense when Zushi
says, “What I want to express through music may be ‘sense of mystery’.” A few of the songs had their basic parts recorded at LM
Studio and Studio Nemu with Shibayama and Masako Takeda joining on bass and drums, respectively; much of the album, however,
was tracked at Zushi’s home studio. That seems appropriate for a collection of songs that are expansive in their intimacy. Asked what
drove the sessions, Zushi answers, “I thought I’d make IV an album that particularly focuses on the guitar play.” And focus it does, as
Zushi’s sky-scraping, soaring, elemental tone is front and centre throughout. But these are no guitar heroics; rather, Zushi uses the
guitar as conduit and diviner, a tool for spirit location, and IV is his most eloquent expression yet of such singular magic.

"With the obvious homage the name implies, you'd expect Hanoi Janes to be a group of riot grrrl angnsty types, displaced in time by about 20 odd years. Having taken on the nickname given to Jane Fonda in the 70s because of her anti-war stance on Vietnam, these girls would be all bent up about, well you know, stuff. You'd expect that, but you'd be wrong. It is in fact primarily the work of one guy from Sachen, Germany - Oliver Scharf. But then Hanoi Janes' album, 'Year of Panic', is able to inspire all kinds of misconceptions. Name of the band aside, would you expect a German guy (who's a bit handy with an eight-track) to produce a series of beautifully lo-fi, sub two-minute, surf-pop tracks, full of buzzing guitar and bubblegum spirit. Maybe - maybe not. But that's just what Scharf has done. The sound is distinctly garage, reminiscent of a 70s surf sound, and like The 5. 6. 7. 8's, Hanoi Janes are able to launch into the genre with the luxury of being removed from the scene itself. Tracks like opener, 'The Boys Are Out' and 'Beach Kids' are unashamedly infectious, utilising catchy hooks, hand claps and the odd 'Ooo ooo ooo' to great effect. The production is fuzzy, but that only adds to the overall charm of the album. Because charming is what it is, as Hanoi Janes have packed 'Year of Panic' with some real gems. Led Er Est emerged from a series of jam sessions that core members Shawn O'Sullivan and Sam De La Rosa started having in early 07, using bass guitar and some cheap drum machines and synths. They were inspired to record music largely by 70's synth prog, and 80's lo-fi electronics and industrial music. Owen Hutchinson joined the band for their first live show, at the Wierd party that December. In November of 09' Wierd Records released their debut full length. In spring of 2010, they toured Europe with Xeno and Oaklander, playing shows in the UK, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Subsequently they released a 7" and then the May EP on Captured Tracks. Inspired by Bollywood, a trip to Morocco, and SergeGainsbourg, Angelo Spencer's second full-length WorldGarage [KLP235] brings armloads of new instruments and theflavor of exotic locations to a compilation of songs that amount to more than just an album, but an experience of wildness. Hearing Spencer transition from English to French, from guitar to hand percussion, and from soft singing to autotuned screaming, it's easy to close your eyes and imagine that you're running barefoot through the soft grass of, somewhere. Somewhere else. Backed by local musicians Ben Kapp, Karl Blau, Clyde Petersen, with guest vocals by Rebecca Redman (from the band Watercolor paintings), World Garage began as a bundle of unfinished songs that Spencer played for everyone, along with a mixtape of Algerian, Moroccan, and Bollywood selections meant to serve as inspiration for how he wanted the finished album to sound; from the sounds of it, it did the trick.

Amplifying Host finds Richard Youngs wandering the guitar desert somewhere between Ry Cooder's Paris, Texas score and Neil Young's work on Dead Man. Yet, the randomly determined chord movements and Youngs' stretched-out vocal passes across the record are, perhaps, more akin to Jandek's Six And Six - here, removed from its gauze and dipped in a dark gold.When Youngs bends strings in this anglo-americana vision, it's like he's bending spoons. For more than 20 years, the UK's Richard Youngs has been at the forefront of progressive minimalism, through solo home recording projects and collaborations with the likes of Simon Wickham-Smith and Makoto Kawabata (of Acid Mothers Temple). Leaving a very human fingerprint on even the most far-reaching experimentations, Youngs has built an extensive, intriguing catalogue that just begs one to go deep. Youngs is joined on Amplifying Host by Damon Krukowski (Galaxie 500, Damon and Naomi), whose subtle, free-form drums sizzle and scatter around Youngs' lunar dust bowl compositions.

Aias are Gaia, Laia and Miriam. Gaia sings and plays guitar. Laia sings and plays drums and Miriam sings and plays bass. And the three together they try to make songs for anyone else to sing. Pop with distortion, lots of "oooos" and vocal harmonies in in a cave with endless ceilings sung in their native Catalan (not Spanish, mind you!) Aias began as a birthday party band and by surprise ended up being a band for real, or at least that's their current intention. The desire to win in the fight against the instrument itself, the need to shout a bit during the week, a Vivian Girls concert during the Primavera Sound Festival and the providential intervention of Cristian Pallejà (Nisei, Sedaiós) lead to a home made recording in a village lost in Catalonia and an unexpected winter signing with the New York Label, Captured tracks.

During a weekend stop-over in her hometown of Olympia, Kendl stopped in at Dub Narcotic to record this 7" that features Kendl, Joe Capoccia on bass, and Austin Cooper on Drums. Selector Dub Narcotic created a remix for the B Side of the album called "The Same Version," and both sides together create the perfect little snack pack to hold us over until she releases her next full-length! Both of these songs stay true to what we've come to love from Kendl; they're homegrown, feet in the dirt, clothes on the drying line in the front yard, sugary country.

Release Info //Yuri Landman is a Dutch experimental luthier who has made several avantgardistic electric string instruments for a bunch of artists including Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Liars, Blood Red Shoes etc. This release is a colloboration of him with JadFair (Half Japanese) & avantgarde sound artist Philippe Petit.Bio // YURI LANDMANYuri Landman (1973) is an experimental instrument builder and musician. After a career as a comic book artist as well as a musician in the bands Zoppo and Avec-A, Yuri Landman began designing experimental musical instruments. Based on prepared guitar techniques, he built his first instrument in 2001 to solve the inaccuracy of instant preparations. In 2006 he got in contact with Liars. Developed over six years of prototyping, he fully realised the Moodswinger for them with commissions from numerous other musicians to follow. Yuri has custom built derivatives for such musical luminaries as Sonic Youth, Half Japanese, Enon, Lou Barlow, dEUS, The Dodos, Blood Red Shoes,Liars, HEALTH, Liam Finn, The Luyas, The Veils, Melt- Banana, Micachu & The Shapes, The Go! Team, These Are Powers, Kate Nash, Women, Action Beat, Peter James Taylor, Rhys Chatham, Dustin Wong, Philippe Petit and others.Around 2008 he started giving lectures and presentations with his instruments, leading to a request in 2009 for a practical building workshop. This became the rise of the Home Swinger project. A Gesamtkunstwerk consisting of a DIY-workshop where people build their own electric instrument and often followed by an afternoon rehearsal on the second day and a 40 minute ensemble performance with multiple Home Swingers, drums, basses, and guitars in the tradition of the Rhys Chatham and Glenn Branca compositions. "decade", the sixth album by Calibro 35, the legendary cinematic funk combo sampled by Dr. Dre and Jay-Z, gets a reissue on ltd edition Crystal Yellow vinyl edition with bonus tracks.

Record Kicks presents the reissue of Calibro 35's sixth acclaimed album "decade" on limited edition Crystal Yellow vinyl and digital deluxe edition with 3 bonus tracks on April 29th2022. The publication is part of "The Record Kicks Trilogy" that follows the reissue of the first three albums of the band, released in 2020. This time, Milan label Record Kicks will repress on wax of three different colors and on digital deluxe edition, the fourth, fifth and sixth legendary studio albums of the Italian cinematic-funk cult band. The deluxe digital edition of "decade" includes 3 bonus tracks: "Gomma", "Polymeri (Afro-Utopia Version)" and "Travelers, Explorers (feat. Elisa Zoot)".

Released in 2018, "decade"marked 10 years of Calibro 35's career and it's the very first album recorded by Calibro with an orchestral-inspired enlarged line-up that features horns, strings and percussions. Mixed and recorded by Calibro's usual suspect and Grammy Award winner Tommaso Colliva, on the album all the influences collected by the band during their last ten years' journey like music, collaborations, movies, gigs, books find their space. "decade" is Calibro 35's "time capsule" and it is as rare and complex as a timeless work.

Musically Calibro 35's inner influences like Ennio Morricone - listen for instance to the epic journey of the album's end credits "Travelers" - Luis Bacalov and David Axelrod are still there but are now mixed with elements from afrobeat or cosmic jazz. "Psycheground" sounds like Tony Allen involved in writing a score for a vintage Hollywood production while Sun Ra lurks on "Modo". Everything is mixed up with new influences from modern musical languages. References to Jaga Jazzist, Budos Band or Alternative Jazz and Alternative Hip Hop new acts such as Makaya McCraven, Yussef Kamaal, Oddisee can all be found on the album. In tracks such as "Modulor" you realize that "decade" is certainly not a point of arrival and expresses the ambition of the band to look further and evolve. All classic Calibro's vintage instruments such as clavinet, eco, analog synths, fuzz guitars are now supported by new ones such as Dan Bau, Balafon and Waterphone ("Polymeri") in the band's new wall of sound. Thanks to the enlarged line-up and the orchestrated parts involved, which pushed the band to experiment new methods of composition, Calibro 35 on "decade" sound strong, full and tight as never before.

Active since 2008, Calibro 35 enjoy a worldwide reputation as one of the coolest independent bands around. During their fourteen-year career, they were sampled by Dr. Dre on his Compton album, Jay-Z, The Child of lov & Damon Albarn; they shared stages worldwide with the likes of Roy Ayers, Muse, Sun Ra Arkestra, Sharon Jones, Thundercat and Headhunters and as unique musicians they collaborated with, amongst others, PJ Harvey, Mike Patton, John Parish and Stewart Copeland and Nic Cester (The Jet). Described by Rolling Stone magazine as "the most fascinating, retro-maniac and genuine thing that happened to Italy in the last years", Calibro 35 now count on a number of aficionados worldwide including VIP fans such as Dj Food (Ninja Tune), Mr Scruff and Huey Morgan (Fun Lovin' Criminals) among others.
