The best musical partners play as if there is a direct connection between their brains. Steve Gunn (guitars) and John Truscinski (drums, synths) possess that certain ESP / telepathy / majick. "Bay Head" is their third duo album and it presents a showcase for their audio alchemy. Gunns playing, while always truly exploratory and aimed for the stars, takes on a vast and expansive reach while anchored by the foil of Truscinskis textured and expressive backbeat. "Bay Head" further establishes Gunn and Truscinski's place on the ultimate shortlist of top shelf audio duos alongside Bull and Higgins, Eno and Fripp, Vega and Rev, and Coltrane and Ali.

Limited colored vinyl LP pressing. Lord Huron's debut album, Lonesome Dreams, was released in 2012 and the track "Ends of the Earth" was featured in the finale for the television series Community. The band's name was inspired by Lake Huron, the lake which frontman and Michigan native Ben Schneider grew up visiting and where he would spend evenings playing around the campfire. The group's second album, Strange Trails, was released in April 2015 and received positive reviews from music critics. Rachel Brodsky of Spin called the album "enchanting from start to finish," praising the lyricism, vocals, and instrumentation. The album's final song "The Night We Met" was featured in the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

The former Oasis star spent two years collaborating with producer, DJ and composer, David Holmes on the record, which also features guest appearances from Paul Weller and Johnny Marr. Said to be inspired as much by French psychedelic pop as it was classic electro, soul, rock, disco and dance, the follow-up to 2015’s acclaimed ‘Chasing Yesterday‘ has been described as an “exhilarating” collection of “placid instrumentals, hypnotic, eastern-influenced grooves, gutsy balcony-shakers and widescreen, cinematic walls of sound”.

Repress! This Tokyo band started channeling the spirits of the Japanese psychedelic underground in the Summer of 2012, quickly developing the sound of '60s psychedelia to a breathtaking degree. The band's s/t debut exerts an elemental power. Enlivening its sound with sitars, percussive drums, theremins, wind instruments and ethereal vocals, the band manages to sound powerfully spacious and lazily serene all at once.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2012 release, the first studio album in seven years from this Alt-Rock/Folk trio led by Grinderman/Bad Seeds mainstay Warren Ellis. Toward the Low Sun is a true humdinger. Ellis is always sawing away at something on the violin that kind of tightens our chest and gives US that ol' thousand-yard stare; Mick Turner wanders with hollow-bodied guitar from abstract and dreamy to punishing hard chord rock in the space of a breath, never sacrificing a sense of the awesome along the path; then there's Jim White, who is doing something that no one else does back there. Plus, he's drumming!

Named after a run-down lodge in New Jersey near where he grew up, Solar Motel was the first full-band project from Chris Forsyth. Originally released in 2013, it was considered his most ambitious and sublime work of "Cosmic Americana" to date, and the idea of the Motel also figured into a band where vacancies would open and close. "'Solar Motel' is the first record on which I overtly took rock tropes and twisted them into new shapes, incorporating so many of my interests and influences - the twin-guitar elegance of Television, the sprawl of West Coast psych, the boiled down Rock Minimalism of Rhys Chatham, the abstract tangles of free improv, an undercurrent of ecstatic jazz energy, and the studio textures of Eno/Cale/Roxy '70s art rock. 'Solar Motel' basically set the template for much of what I did for the remainder of that decade. Expanded 2xLP includes two studio outtakes from the original sessions, and a side-long live session recorded at WFMU.

(Abbey Road master but in the original sleeve) When the mysterious masked collective calling themselves Goat first emerged in 2012, armed with an incendiary debut album ‘World Music’ – there was, and there still isn’t, anyone else on earth quite like them. With their enticing mythology, music full of sinuous grooves and manic explosions of fuzz, Goat were outliers from the very beginning. ‘World Music’, received an avalanche of acclaim with critics, psych heads, outernational crate diggers etc, all left enraptured by its thunderous intensity, conjured from a singular mix of sounds from across the globe. ‘World Music’ is brimming with tracks now seen as ‘classic’ Goat live favourites. Tracks that have been wowing audiences all over the world; the afrobeat stomp of ‘Disco Fever’, the fuzz abuse of ‘Goathead’, the post-punk groove of ‘Let it Bleed’, the sing-along repetitive pop of ‘Run to your Mama’... From the first note to the last, ‘World Music’ oozes with a sonic confidence rarely seen on a debut album. What Goat have is unique – they’ve managed to create a sound unrestrained by genre or any other boundaries. So if you haven’t done so already, then it is now time you joined the Goat commune. The seventh record by Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be released 22 September 2017 on Constellation.

‘Luciferian Towers‘ was recorded during the winter of 2016/2017 at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango, with Greg Norman once again engineering and co-producing (as he did on the band’s previous album ‘Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress‘).

The music on ‘Luciferian Towers‘ took shape over the past two years, amidst GYBE’s collaborative performances with the Holy Body Tattoo dance company’s monumental, and spurred by the commissioning of new compositions memorializing the 100th anniversary of the WWI Battle of Messines, which premiered at a live concert event on the site of the massacre at Heuvelland, Belgium this past June.

‘Luciferian Towers‘ is Godspeed’s third album since the group’s ‘reunion’ in 2011 and their second consecutive single LP-length record (following three double-album releases in 2000, 2002 and 2012).

this, this long-playing record, a thing we made in the midst of communal mess, raising dogs and children. eyes up and filled with dreadful joy – we aimed for wrong notes that explode, a quiet muttering amplified heavenward. we recorded it all in a burning motorboat.

(context as follows:)

1. UNDOING A LUCIFERIAN TOWERS – look at that fucking skyline! big lazy money writ in dull marble obelisks! imagine all those buildings much later on, hollowed out and stripped bare of wires and glass, listen- the wind is whistling through all 3,000 of its burning window-holes!

2. BOSSES HANG – labor, alienated from the wealth it creates, so that holy cow, most of us live precariously! kicking at it, but barely hanging on! also – the proud illuminations of our shortened lives! also – more of us than them! also – what we need now is shovels, wells, and barricades!

3. FAM / FAMINE – how they kill us = absentee landlord, burning high-rise. the loud panics of child-policemen and their exploding trigger-hands. with the dull edge of an arbitrary meritocracy. neglect, cancer maps, drone strike, famine. the forest is burning and soon they’ll hunt us like wolves.

4. ANTHEM FOR NO STATE – kanada, emptied of its minerals and dirty oil. emptied of its trees and water. a crippled thing, drowning in a puddle, covered in ants. the ocean doesn’t give a shit because it knows it’s dying too.

finally and in conclusion;
the “luciferian towers” L.P. was informed by the following grand demands:
+ an end to foreign invasions
+ an end to borders
+ the total dismantling of the prison-industrial complex
+ healthcare, housing, food and water acknowledged as an inalienable human right
+ the expert fuckers who broke this world never get to speak again

much love to all the other lost and wondering ones,
xoxoxox god’s pee / montréal / 4 juillet, 2017

On it's initial release in 2012, Colourmeinkindness found Basement pulling from not only one of emo's zeniths-early Sunny Day Real Estate-but also channeling heavy and sometimes hazy `90s alt-rock, with hints of behemoths like Pixies, Silverchair, and Catherine Wheel shaping the sound. Vocalist Andrew Fisher fit that grunge mold of a maudlin-but-thoughtful protagonist, ruminating on toxic relationships, personal desolation, and desperate longing, with slivers of optimism occasionally peeking through. From the dynamic one-two punch of churning opener "Whole" into the balladic doom of "Covet", to the sneering grunge of "Black" and gentle ease of "Comfort", Basement effortlessly moved between sounds and styles while keeping the underlying energy of their roots in punk and hardcore.Colourmeinkindness quickly won over fans old and new, but the members of Basement had already committed themselves to exploring other avenues in their lives and after a few impressive record release shows, the group went on hiatus. When they eventually returned the ripples of Colourmeinkindness were already clear: A thriving scene had begun to crop up around Basement's like-minded peers. Bands such as Balance and Composure, Superheaven, and Title Fight were reviving alt-rock radio for the YouTube generation and moving from being VFW staples to playing sizable venues. Post-hardcore, shoegaze, and grunge were becoming prevalent influences amongst new punk and emo bands. Newer acts were forming with a nod very much towards that `90s rock/emo crossover sound that Colourmeinkindess had captured so astonishingly well. With Colourmeinkindess Basement had begun to signal a sea change that would shape the next decade of big-room guitar music in a major way. Now the album's 10th anniversary expanded reissue offers a chance to rediscover the record. This unforgettable release has been updated with an embossed slipcase, updated artwork with photos and retrospective liner notes from the band, as well as a second disc that features an etched D-sid...

In late 2013, Preoccupations (then known as Viet Cong) released a small-run cassette EP only available on tour.

Over the course of a year, Matt Flegel and Scott Munro worked in their basement studio with a mess of old and run down equipment to build a set of fresh material.

Joined by bandmates Daniel Christiansen and Michael Wallace, the band completed work on an debut cassette.

What emerged from the studio was a mixture of sharply-angled rhythm workouts and euphoric 60s garage pop-esque melodies, balanced with a penchant for drone-y, VU-styled downer moments, and became a hard-to-find classic.

“When musicians have this intensity in them, they often get to it 5 sooner and stay put. Ms. Wolfe sounds like she’s using it by choice, not disposition; she can use different kinds of darkness as colour or tincture." - NY Times // “The reigning dark priestess of goth-scarred art rock.” Rolling Stone // Hiss Spun is Chelsea Wolfe’s sixth album. Following her acclaimed 2015 album Abyss, Hiss Spun is at once dynamic, heavy, and raw. NPR shared the song “16 Psyche,” saying, “Wolfe has always possessed a talent for dynamic song writing, particularly concerning the theatre of the soul. But the masterful "16 Psyche" is a full-on ride, and one that finds her at her most commanding and climactic yet." Recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge), the album was conceived as an emotional purge, a means of coming to terms with the tumult of the outside world by exploring the complexities of one’s inner unrest.

The fifth album by IMPERIAL TEEN, "Feel the Sound", succeeds completely at its goal, plainly stated in the collection's title. Like the sharpest pop music, "Feel the Sound" gets you to keep coming back for more, but unlike so much music today, it rewards you for doing so, giving you the experience of a fulfilled and yet still yearning, lively potential, one that will be further realized when the songs are performed live. From the exhilarating, propulsive "Runaway," which features the entire band on lead vocals (how many other groups can make that claim?), to the expansive final statement of "Overtaken," Roddy Bottum, Lynn Perko Truell, Will Schwartz, and Jone Stebbins feel the sound themselves and, in turn, make the listener feel it in ways immediate and pleasurable but also lasting and haunting.

180g Vinyl!Sam Shalabi's Land Of Kush project returns: his psych-arabic jazz orchestra has produced a second album of intensely genre-defying, polymorphic, big band madness. Where Shalabi structured last year's mesmerising Against The Day album around the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name, this time Shalabi tackles concepts of shame, sexuality and society in a new multi-movement work entitled Monogamy.

Nicole Dollanganger has been quietly crafting her own world since 2012. Over a number of self-released albums recorded mostly in her own bedroom and bathroom, her signature style of gothic folk is inspired by countless influences, none more than the archetype of the love song. Dollanganger's signature lyricism is front-and-center - usually accompanied by barely more than a few lonesome chords, narratives are idyllic, yet haunting - dream-like, yet startlingly real. The thesis of "Ode to Dawn Wiener" is as straightforward as its subtitle, but over ten songs it becomes clear that there is much more to these songs than what they offer at the surface.

Front man Austin Getz doesn't blink when asked to sum up Turnover's third full-length, Good Nature. "Learning," he replies. "This whole record is about learning. Opening your eyes to new things, going outside of your comfort zone, and learning to grow into something new."The album's unique blend of musical and spiritual growth is immediately audible on the opening track, "Super Natural," a late-summer idyll of intertwined guitar parts and laidback vocals. Listening to how the leisurely "Nightlight Girl" melts into a more propulsive selection like "Breeze," and the way Good Nature flows together as a seamless whole, it's also evident that the foursome has been paying closer attention to how artists from earlier eras made full-length albums: the range of textures, tempos, and dynamics on Good Nature are infuenced in part by bossa nova, cool jazz, electronic music, and psychedelic grooves. This infux of new infuences and inspiration, navigated by Peripheral Vision producer Will Yip, results in the band's best album to date. Good Nature comes from a place of calm and contentment, nurtured by looking inward.

Sometimes the best bands are just out in the world - waiting for you to discover them. Mirrorism formed nary a year ago in Ferrara, Italy & posted up some songs from their self-released cassette onto a message board late last year. The band's TiM debut snags two tunes from that blast of hot air & slaps 'em onto wax - where they belong! In their own words, Mirrorism are: "a philosophical, artistic and political movement based on chaos, disunity, multiple personality disorder and the refusal to make sense of any kind of artistic output." One gets a very real sense of the chaos lurking beneath these jagged stabs of post-punk fury - "Night Flight" kicks of the A-side with a rhythmic ticking of the drums, perhaps a warning of the musical time bomb about to explode thru your speakers! Short & sweet - it's over before it even began. "Exit The Loop" closes out the single with a ragged cacophany of garage scree & trebly guitar sirens! An exciting debut from this promising new band! The first edition of this single is pressed on randomly mixedvinyl & includes a download code!

Andrew Anderson is a prolific guy, having recorded two albums of dumb-punk ferocity with his band, Hipshakes & released three albums & a number of singles under his solo project moniker, "Proto Idiot". Proto Idiot's previous output has had one foot firmly planted in the Hipshakes school of frenzied, nervousgaragepunk intensity, & the other in a rickety, Kinks-ian,English-countryside gallop. His debut for TiM however is a step in a new direction, delivering smart & urgent pop tunes having more in common with the DIY smarts of bands like Television Personalities, Wire & The Soft Boys than The Oblivians or The Gories. "You're Wrong" yearns with the strummy confections of a lost classic & it's earworm melody will have a hard timegetting unstuck from your brain! "You Can't Hide" burns with the loping maudlin of guitars & careens into a head-bopper of sugary pop-perfection. Deleted Scenes is the debut album by futurist dub pop duo Standish/Carlyon, comprising bassist/vocalist ConradStandish and guitarist Tom Carlyon, both formerly of noir rock group Devastations. Deleted Scenes continues the process begun on the final Devastations album Yes, U, moving away from full-band arrangements towards submerged electronic rhythms and late-night altered states. The atmosphere throughout is oneof surreal chic. In rich baritone or impressive falsetto, Standish intones dark, absurdist lyrics over the band'sshimmering take on dub, a sensual, ultramodern gloss disturbed by deep vibrations. There's the pulse-quickening progression of Moves, Moves, the spectral faux-soul of "Feb Love" (featuring vocals from Standish's wife Jonnine, one-half of HTRK), the icy grind of "Gucci Mountain", the synthetic fractured funk of "Nono/Yoyo" or the deviant denouement that is 2 5 1 1, a collaboration with Benjamin John Power of Blanck Mass and FuckButtons. The album was recorded in London with Aaron Cupples and mastered by the iconic Denis Blackham, who has workedwith everyone from Brian Eno to Pan Sonic. Standish/Carlyon have played Belgium's Sonic City Festival (curated by Liars) alongside Chris & Cosey and Rhythm & Sound, as well as All Tomorrow's Parties' new Australian incarnation I'll Be Your Mirror, alongside the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Pere Ubu and Einsturzende Neubauten.FIYL: Twin Shadow, Coil, White Car, HTRK

Damien Jurado is the sort of songwriter who straddles rock's past and future, and with each record contributes a new chapter to an ever-fruitful body of work. Before we move onto the nextchapter, we look back at his first album with Secretly Canadian. An instant classic when released in 2003, "Where Shall You Take Me?" was his fifth full-length, and is a beautiful collection of ten Raymond Carver-esque vignettes terror and bliss inMiddle America. Arriving two decades afterSpringsteen's "Nebraska", Jurado put the darker, more complicated side of the heartland back on the map with his tales of young love (some requited; some not), innoc...

George W. Bush. Cormac McCarthy novels. Chainsaw massacres. Texas has a reputation for being a grim place. Sure, there's the rock n' roll haven of Austin, the metropolitan hubs of Dallas and Houston, and the weird art commune of Marfa. But by and large, it's a land of dry counties and conservatism. Which makes the demented psych garage of Lubbock's the Numerators all the more compelling. Northeastern Texas is perhaps the most inhospitable region of the state for a young band of misfits to combine a love of David Lynch's twisted take on the 50s with a requisite dash of Lone Star homage to 13th Floor Elevators, yet somehow the Numerators have managed to thrive under such stark conditions. Now based in Brooklyn, the trio continues to belt out their hallucinatory brand of reverb-drenched garage rock on their latest single for Suicide Squeeze. The "Dead" b/w "Finally Sees" 7" is limited to 500 copies.

You may have experienced ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO'S MALAIKAT DAN SINGA as an unexpected live force, pushing up through the earth like daffodils in late winter; or maybe you're familiar with their previous exploits in the studio, "Malaikat dan Singa" [KLP215] and "Suara Naga" [KLP226], which burn clean with fragrant traumas. "Open the Crown" is similarly passion-filled, with new vistas (channeled hallucinations) exploring English (previously only the Indonesian language was employed) as their stomping ground to expand parallel themes anew. Open the Crown conveys tendrils of raw energy emanating from the head - dream visions translated directly to audio outrage. Heavy. And sexy. To be expected from ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO and his molten collection of MALAIKAT DAN SINGA who manipulate the "form'd and the formless" to create from within this broken system.

LP includes download coupon.Mikal Cronin's self-titled debut from 2011 was all about endings: the end of college, the end of a serious relationship, and the end of his time in Los Angeles, where he grew up. So it's no surprise that his sophomore release "MCII"- and first disc for Merge Records - is all about new beginnings. "Since the first record came out, my life has changed quite a bit", Cronin says, referencing his move to San Francisco and tourswith Ty Segall as well as with his own band. "I was presented with a whole new slew of problems and situations that I was trying to work through". "Am I Wrong" and "Shout It Out" dissect his fears over a new relationship, while "I'm Done Running from You" and "Weight" find him freaking out about what...

With their fourth full-length album to be released in as many years, THE MEN proudly present the sweeping ,New Moon", the most intensely personal and immersive installment yet. Never content to draw on the same methods twice, nor to recline under the heel of expectation, THE MEN quit the city in early 2012 to head for Big Indian, NY - transforming a remote Catskills locale into a full-fledged stray dog studio home. Entering with only the most skeletal sketches, the house was selected as an incubator for its technical limitations. Familiar faces remain, the core of guitarists Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro, with drummer Rich Samis all returning from last year's much-acclaimed ,Open Your Heart". However, inr...

Swedish electronic producer, Hannes Norrvide (aka LUST FOR YOUTH) has been inconspicuously hinting at his brighter side throughout his last couple of releases. What began as a lo-fi, atonal, bedroom drone-synth project in 2009 has slowly but surely been evolving into a full frontal synth-pop assault. The Quietus quite aptly caught on to these genres' overlapping breeding ground in his review of ,Growing Seeds" for The Quiteus "If you take the two musical genres of noise and synth pop and trace them back, back through Wolf Eyes and La Roux, all the way back to Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire and The Normal, you reach a point where the two lines wind together and fuse...In the last few years, a number of groups have emerged who, whether by intention or not, are working to reconcile these two paths of noise and synth-pop."

DREAM BOAT is the music of Page Campbell and Dan Donahue. "Eclipsing" features beautiful harmonies and waves of electronic texture. With the help of engineer Suny Lyons, they bring together an ensemble featuring John Fernandes of THE OLIVIA TREMOR CONTROL and CIRCULATORY SYSTEM, and Scott Spillane of NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL and THE GERBILS. It's a really unique music that could be called "cosmic folk". Page has contributed to multiple bands such as HOPE FOR A GOLDEN SUMMER, CREEPY, and DARK MEAT. Dan has contributed lyrics to ELF POWER, GREAT LAKES, OF MONTREAL, and most recently BEAR IN HEAVEN. Fans of Cat Power, Fennesz, Neil Young, Sandy Denny, and Brian Eno will definitely enjoy this record. DREAM BOAT exists where the earthly meets the ethereal. It's hypnotic, haunting, and sometimes serene.

Regal Degal is a power trio consisting of Josh da Costa [Gemini] on guitars and vocals, Josiah Wolfson [Libra] on bass, and Jamen Whitelock [Virgo] on drums. Formed in Brooklyn in late 2009, the group recently relocated to Los Angeles. The group's sound pulls omnidirectionally from across the musical spectrum, drawing from post-punk, krautrock, 60's psychedelic/ freakbeat, 80's new wave and indie, German minimal house, and the music of Africa. The music could be described as hyper rhythm conscious, melodic, atmospheric, and kinetic, with one foot firmly in the past and an eye fixed towards the future. In the center resides Regal Degal, channeling and reinterpreting all individual and shared inspirations into a sound best referred to as deep rock.

Peace recorded its sophomore LP in Pamela Anderson's hometown, a fogged-in hamlet named Ladysmith on the east coast of Vancouver Island. The World is Too Much With Us builds on the depth and drama latent in Peace's sound. Connor's bass-lines menace and hypnotize. Mike's guitar solos explode suddenly in wah-pedal freak-outs. Geoff's tom-toms thud with a tribal intensity. And Dan's lyrics, for which he's been referred to as Vancouver's "post-punk poet laureate", alternate between images of defiant despair and love-sick yearning.

After a 3-year hiatus following the sprawling double-album, Growing - San Diego's Sleeping People return with this hypnotic fever-dream of a 12". Following the departure of guitarist Amber Coffman (who left to pursue her other group, The Dirty Projectors, full-time), SLEEPING PEOPLE's core group - guitarist Kasey Boekholt, bassist Kenseth Thibideau, and drummer Brandon Relf - reunited with original guitarist, the nimble-fingered Joileah Thalmann. THE SLEEPING PEOPLE trademarks are all here: angular, dissonant riffs, mind-bending counterpoint guitar interplay, and grooving, stop/start dynamics. The major evolution here is the hefty amount of patience and primal repetition; each song unfolds over many minutes, revealing something new with repeated listens. In other words, it sounds like what you would expect from a band that draws equal inspiration from Yes, Steve Reich, and Tool.

Trevor Montgomery is a craftsman. By day he's a skilled tile setter, a job taxing to both the mind and body. By night he's an equally meticulous and hard working musician, coaxing just the right tones out of his vintage drum machines and synths to carry his tales of love and redemption. As a tile setter and as a musician, his job is the same: assembling things of beauty to fill empty spaces. Montgomery's previous album The Trickster (St. Ives) was inspired by his youth, wandering in the woods, riding trains, taking meth and heavy psychedelics, and narrowly cheating death on more than one occasion. On Navigated Like the Swan, his debut under the Young Moon moniker, he emerges like a shaman from the woods of his youth -- his darkness is filled with light, cynicism and macabre fixations washed away by a revitalizing and intoxicating love.

Wymond's previous EP "Earth Has Doors" was about intangible and esoteric concepts; the music drifted beautifully in somewhat of an oceanic, boundless state. For the album it was very important for him to make the songs be felt somatically. In his own words, "I wanted it to hit the body, I wanted it carnal." Whereas the EP had been a drawn out labor of love he worked on and then shelved for several years, most songs on "Un...

Led Er Est emerged from a series of jam sessions that core members Shawn O'Sullivan and Sam De La Rosa started having in early 07, using bass guitar and some cheap drum machines and synths. They were inspired to record music largely by 70's synth prog, and 80's lo-fi electronics and industrial music. Owen Hutchinson joined the band for their first live show, at the Wierd party that December. In November of 09' Wierd Records released their debut full length. In spring of 2010, they toured Europe with Xeno and Oaklander, playing shows in the UK, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Subsequently they released a 7" and then the May EP on Captured Tracks. On stage and in the studio Led Er Est create a thick wall of atmospheric soundscapes using vintage analog recording devices, samplers and synths using sci-fi soundtracks and cold wave as reference points. For fans of OMD, Giorgio Moroder, Savage Republic, John Carpenter film soundtracks.

Two of EC's best songs to date, no doubt, do not miss this 45!

Sprouting from the same mind that created the Books - one of the most acclaimed and innovative groups of the past decade - ZAMMUTO marks a deep reinvention of the highly detailed, genre-defying spirit that made seminal albums such as "The Lemon of Pink" and "The Way Out" possible. Given THE BOOKS' success as an experimental collage-pop project, founder and namesake Nick Zammuto could have comfortably extended that thread. Limited edition version on clear vinyl.JESSE RUINS is a Tokyo-based unit, which formed in the spring of 2010 by Nobuyuki Sakuma, as a solo project. In December 2011, Nah joined the band and they shortly thereafter signed to Captured Tracks. "Dream Analysis" is their second release on the label. The six song EP conjures a romantic and atmospheric haze, a little bit of the past, mostly a glimpse of the future. Already generating lots of buzz, the complete EP fills in all the missing pieces. Jesse Ruins is using this release as an introduction and a launching pad for more of a good thing."Little is known about Jesse Ruins. Well, other than he is from Japan and makes doom-laden, industrial-tinged pop that demands to be used as a soundbed to sweeping aerial footage of an erupting volcano. Yes, that specific." - The Guardian"Vocals are sparse on every song; instead the tracks contain suppressed whispers which ride the soothing pads quietly as if they aren't there. It all adds up to the dreamy aura you enter when listening to the EP and it also enhances the mystery of the duo, because you are never quite sure if they are male or female whispers. When you come to the end of the EP the cloak still never fully comes off and there is still that air of secrecy about the Japanese duo which keeps them interesting. This is a debut that should keep listeners day dreaming until a full length album appears, scheduled for release later this year." - ADDICTMUSIC.CO.UK

DUNES are a mysteriously ethereal and minimal trio from Los Angeles. Appropriating pop and experimental music into a familiar swirl, while retaining a fresh outlook and approach, DUNES inhabit a space of tweaking, twisting, imagining moments and emotions from the past, destined to end up as their future. Stephanie Chan, formerly of Austin Texas bands FINALLY PUNK and THE CARROTS plays guitar and sings in DUNES, she creates surreal and dreamy narratives with her lyrics and uniquely beautiful, powerful voice. Mark Greshowak plays barritone guitar and sometimes bass, he used to write songs and tour with seattle area band TALBOT TAGORA, now he and Stephanie weave their melodies back and forth, making lush tones for our eardums. Kate Hall, played drums in MIKA MIKO before holding down the rhythmic duties and also singing for DUNES. This companion recording combines audio excerpts from the book's text with an original musical score by NO AGE, examining these questions and allowing the listener space to think. This is a limited record with beautiful and enticing sounds split in two separate channels for your listening pleasure.Brilliantly designed by Brian Roettinger who was nominated for a Grammy for his work on NO AGE's "Nouns" In the essay called "The Death of Subculture," Aaron Rose (Alleged Gallery, director of Beautiful Losers and co-curator of MoCA's record-smashing exhibit Art in the Streets) makes an impassioned call to arms, urging the next generation of artists to end the collage era by adopting a philosophy of creative innovation. And in her essay "Living in the Mess," Mandy Kahn (columnist, Foam magazine) considers whether the collage of references that surrounds us might negatively a_ect the way we feel. Combined with the musical elements of NO AGE, who exhibit that they are in the prime of ambient excursions and findings, this record is not something to miss.

The past few years have found Sean McBride, the artist behind Martial Canterel, in a state of flux, ebbing back and forth between material displacement and musical aestheticism. His expert pedigree in electronic sound and arrangement bridges the gap created by an undecidability between life at home and abroad His new album, Lost At Sea, is an attempt for the artist to locate this elusive common ground. The album's introductory track, Giving Up, has all of the hallmarks that Martial Canterel has utilized in the past_melodic chorus, upbeat rhythm and classic sequential dynamism. Where the song diverges is in its core theme of nature: nature's return to a period of restoration after the failures and recklessness of humankind. The slower pace of songs like Scampia and Puszta yearn for McBride's complex love affair with far flung destinations. Re-evaluating the political strife and social unrest in these historical locations, McBride delves deeper into political and geological reference points creating symbolic representations using mechanized percussion, white noise and various sine waves. The conceptual nature of Lost at Sea reaches even deeper depths within the waveforms of Astralize, a track based upon academic Donna Haraway's pre-civilized theories of human neglect after the `azstralization'.

It's tough to keep up with garage rock's wunderkind Ty Segall. Between his steady release schedule of LPs, raucous side projects like Fuzz and Goggs, and collaborations with fellow songwriters Mikal Cronin and Tim Presley, it's as if a season can't pass without Segall dropping a new record. And that's not even taking his cassettes, splits, and EPs into consideration. Fortunately, Segall's bottomless well of creativity, production savvy, and boundless fascination with the various niches of the rock world makes every new release an occasion to celebrate. Suicide Squeeze Records is proud to offer the latest entry in Ty's impressive canon with the Sentimental Goblin 7". Side A features "Pan", a fuzz-soaked proto-metal jam that links Beatles' pioneering guitar dirge "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" to later lurch classics by Sir Lord Baltimore and Pentagram. In true Segall fashion, he switches gears on side B and conjures the erudite pop appeal of T. Rex and Bowie with the lush glam rocker "Black Magick".

Release Info //Yuri Landman is a Dutch experimental luthier who has made several avantgardistic electric string instruments for a bunch of artists including Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Liars, Blood Red Shoes etc. This release is a colloboration of him with JadFair (Half Japanese) & avantgarde sound artist Philippe Petit.Bio // YURI LANDMANYuri Landman (1973) is an experimental instrument builder and musician. After a career as a comic book artist as well as a musician in the bands Zoppo and Avec-A, Yuri Landman began designing experimental musical instruments. Based on prepared guitar techniques, he built his first instrument in 2001 to solve the inaccuracy of instant preparations. In 2006 he got in contact with Liars. Developed over six years of prototyping, he fully realised the Moodswinger for them with commissions from numerous other musicians to follow. Yuri has custom built derivatives for such musical luminaries as Sonic Youth, Half Japanese, Enon, Lou Barlow, dEUS, The Dodos, Blood Red Shoes,Liars, HEALTH, Liam Finn, The Luyas, The Veils, Melt- Banana, Micachu & The Shapes, The Go! Team, These Are Powers, Kate Nash, Women, Action Beat, Peter James Taylor, Rhys Chatham, Dustin Wong, Philippe Petit and others.Around 2008 he started giving lectures and presentations with his instruments, leading to a request in 2009 for a practical building workshop. This became the rise of the Home Swinger project. A Gesamtkunstwerk consisting of a DIY-workshop where people build their own electric instrument and often followed by an afternoon rehearsal on the second day and a 40 minute ensemble performance with multiple Home Swingers, drums, basses, and guitars in the tradition of the Rhys Chatham and Glenn Branca compositions. Soon after the rise of the Home Swinger project, other building workshops followed. Events have taken place in AU, BE, CH, DE, FR, UK, IR, NL, SV and US. He recorded the musical pieces with the Rotterdam based musicians Arnold van de Velde and René van Lien (both formerly acti...

Amassing nearly 150,000 copies sold, Toro y Moi’s third full-length album, Anything in Return, sees Chaz Bear blending funk, psych-pop and colorful, glitchy electronic sampling, locking in his unique sound that would push him to the forefront of alternative and chillwave music in the 2010s. To celebrate its 10-year anniversary, Anything in Return will be released for the first time on picture disc.

But the product of a move he made almost a decade ago, from South Carolina to Berkeley, CA and the subsequent extended separation from loved ones, is what put Anything in Return right in the middle of the producer/songwriter dichotomy that his first two albums established. There’s a pervasive sense of peace with Bundick’s tendency to dabble in both sides of the modern music-making spectrum, and he sounds comfortable engaging in intuitive pop production and putting forth the impression of unmediated id. The producer’s hand is prominent — not least in the sampled “yeah”s and “uh”s that give the album a hip-hop-indebted confidence — and many of the songs feature the 4/4 beats and deftly employed effects usually associated with house music. Tracks like “High Living” and “Day One” show a considerably Californian influence, their languid funk redolent of a West Coast temperament, and elsewhere — not least on lead single, “So Many Details” — the record plays with darker atmospheres than we’re used to hearing from Toro y Moi. Sounding quite assured in what some may call this songwriter’s return to producerhood, Anything in Return is Bear uninhibited by issues of genre, an album that feels like the artist’s essence.

Since his earlier releases, Toro y Moi has continued to make big waves across the music landscape — headlining international tours in the US, Europe, and Asia, producing tracks for major artists like SZA, performing on national television shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Ellen Show, joining festival lineups like Coachella and Fuji Rock, and much more.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Cloud Nothings' seminal album, Attack On Memory, the band has announced a very special limited edition vinyl pressing. It’s housed in a foil jacket with all new colorized artwork, is pressed on Sky Blue vinyl, and includes two bonus flexi 7"s with two never-before-released tracks, "You Will Turn" and "Jambalaya" from the original sessions at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio. Including digital download and Steve Albini's “Fluffy Coffee” recipe. In 2009, Cleveland’s Dylan Baldi began writing and recording lo-fi power-pop songs in his parents’ basement, dubbing the project Cloud Nothings. His music quickly started making the Internet rounds, and fans and critics alike took note of his pithy songcraft, infectiously catchy melodies, and youthful enthusiasm. Baldi soon released a string of 7”s, a split cassette, and an EP before putting out Turning On—a compilation spanning about a year’s worth of work—on Carpark in 2010. January 2011 saw the release of Cloud Nothings’ self- titled debut LP, which, put next to Turning On, found Baldi cleaning up his lo-fi aesthetic, pairing his tales of affinitive confusion with a more pristine aural clarity. In the interval since the release of Cloud Nothings, Baldi has toured widely and put a great deal of focus on his live show, a detail that heavily shapes the music of his follow-up album, Attack on Memory. After playing the same sets nightly for months on end, Baldi saw the rigidity of his early work, and he wanted to create arrangements that would allow for more improvisation and variability when played on the road. To accomplish this desired malleability, the entire band decamped to Chicago—where the album was recorded with Steve Albini—and all lent a hand in the songwriting process. The product of these sessions is a record boasting features that, even at a glance, mark a sea change in the band’s sound: higher fidelity, a track clocking in at almost nine minutes, an instrumental, and an overall more plaintive air. The songs move along fluidly, and Baldi sounds assured as he brings his vocals up in the mix, allowing himself to hold out long notes and put some grain into his voice. Minor key melodies abound, drums emphatically contribute much more than mere timekeeping, and the guitar work is much more adventurous than that of previous releases. For all of early Cloud Nothings’ fun and fervor, Baldi admits that it never sounded like most of the music he listens to. With Attack on Memory, he wanted to remedy this anomaly, and in setting out to do so, Baldi and co. created an album that showed vast growth for a very young band.
