NIKI AND THE DOVE is a band from Stockholm, Sweden with two members, Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf. Their songs are full of magic and light but with an unsettling darkness hidden beneath the surface. It's pop music but a world away from the production line aesthetics of much modern chart music. Since getting together in February 2010, Malin and Gustaf have been busy writing together, figuring out just how pop music works and then discovering new ways to break it. Their first single "DJ, Ease My Mind"/"Under the Bridges" released on leading UK independent label Moshi Moshi, was one of the most striking debuts of the year, catching the attention of everyone from Artrocker and NME through to The Sunday Times, who declared the single could "be the two greatest alt-pop songs of 2010."Newly signed to the Sub Pop label this 12" single for "The Fox" is NIKI AND THE DOVE's first release on Sub Pop. A full-length album will follow in late 2011 or early 2012.

[DEU]Die Idee zu dieser Platte, SHINJI MASUKOs erster Soloaufnahmen, entstand während der Vorbereitung für einige BOREDOMS Konzerte 2009, als SHINJI Kid Millions (von ONEIDA und Brah Records) einige Backingtracks vorspielte, die er für das aktuelle Konzertstück der BOREDOMS - "Boadrum" - geschrieben hatte. Für einen kleinen Teil der Live Performance wird die unglaubliche Masse an Drone Gitarren zum dröhnenden Chaos von einem Ensemble von Schlagzeugern. SHINJI spielte Millions die Tracks zwischen Proben in Oska vor - Kid war überrascht und überzeugt, dass man diese Musik unbedingt allein - ohne den Rest des Konzertstücks - hören muss. [ENG]The idea for this record, Masuko's first solo work, was born during preparations for a series of Boredoms concerts in 2009 when Shinji played Kid Millions (of Oneida and Brah Records) some backing tracks he'd created for the Boredoms' current concert piece - Boadrum. For a short section of the live performance an incredible mass of multi-tracked droning guitars is mixed into the pounding chaos of the 9 person,multi-drummer ensemble. Shiji playedMillions this unadorned recording while they were between rehearsals at Shinji's home in Osaka and Kid was astounded, convinced that this music needed to be heard on its own.

Frankie Sparo's third release is a little masterpiece of highly original, stylistically diverse songwriting. Sparo's debut record, My Red Scare was comprised mostly of songs played solo, unadorned, wrought only from guitar, voice and beatbox. The two years between saw forays into broader instrumentation and collaborations with additional players. A tour with Silver Mt. Zion yielded a set of string and digital arrangements (some of which are documented on a 2001 EP Arena Hostile) and many of these same players contributed to the songs on Welcome Crummy Mystics. Meanwhile, an official second member in the person of N. Moss (piano, keyboards, backing vox) joined the fray and her playing, singing and arranging can be heard throughout this record.

This Trondheim-based Swedish/Norwegian band was formed under the pandemic lockdowns in 2020. Swedish singer Sushila was working in Trondheim (no) at the time and had been talking for a couple of years with friend and bass guitarist Karl-Martin about starting to make music together. The lockdowns provided the time to start working on ideas, and when restrictions loosened up, some new songs started to see the light. They got friends and fellow punk rockers Eskild (guitar), Thor-Inge (guitar), and Andreas “Puppy” to join the lineup in the band Slitasje (which means “wear and tear” in Norwegian). With a background in bands like Allvaret (se), NSB (no), Anti-lam Front (no), Castro (no), THE School (no), and more between the five, they’ve got some steady footing in the Scandinavian punk rock scene. With influences from all over, Slitjase have come together in a band that doesn't sound quite like any other.

As the recordings started to pile up, they form a label/collective called Screw Music Forever and begin to offer $1 cassettes at local record stores. In a freak happenstance, one of these cassettes lands in the lap of a Relativity Records A&R man, who soon rolls up smoking large cigars and offering money for Home IX. before michael yonkers would revise the history of recorded music with the clarion chords of microminiature love, he was in a band called michael and the mumbles, and they made this self-titled LP in 1966. in the premiere spin, their would-be debut comes off as a naive, teenage trip thru the typified garage band moves of this era. but repeated listening reveals a darkness beneath what some dullard might be deceived by as it's crisp, winsome visage. it's only to a slightly less visible degree that the mumbles LP has the same characteristics that would make micro the singularly original piece that is; it's emotionally bleak themes, dissonant undercurrents, and recklessly wild performance. so, once again we have a michael yonkers LP that is going to turn yr world upside down, make the college girls scream and leave you wondering how many more times this can happen. seriously, pigeon falls up here looked like a riot on the sunset strip. indulge yrself. ps. michael and the mumbles is on the king of all known formats (with a digital download coupon, natch) only, the mastertapes used herein are 45 yrs old and aside from the glitch on "cold town", they sound as good as they could and yr not going to have any trouble embracing their magic.

Incredibly well recorded for a live punk album (cough, cough), this is the one that catches the 'men as they always should have sounded. Full on, over the top punk/metal recorded with a crack band and the manliest Meat himself, Tesco Vee as master of ceremonies of the apocalypse. The material is all top notch, the cream of the crop of their originals like "Tooling For Anus," "One Down Three To Go," "Lesbian Death Dirge" and so on plus crazy covers of "Razamanaz" (Nazareth) and "Rebel Rowser" (Sweet). 5 bonus tracks round out this incredible release, including some material recorded in 1986 with Minor Threat's Lyle Preslar on guitar.

REMASTERED BY STEVE ALBINI AND BOB WESTON AT CHICAGO MASTERING!Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7". After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7". Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7" were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7" of The Model/He's A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). And they broke up."We liked to think we were ahead of our time. This is complicated, and largely made up, so pay attention. Joe Pernice is a recording artist, who, once upon a time, had a multi-dollar deal with Sub Pop as a member of the bands SCUD MOUNTAIN BOYS and THE PERNICE BROTHERS. This was before you were born. After a mutual parting of the ways between label and artist, he started his own record label and continued to record under various noms de plume. He also became a novelist, and his first novel, "It Feels So Good When I Stop" will be published by Riverhead Books in August 2009. In said book, the narrator, who is not Joe, is in a band called THE YOUNG ACCUSER for a short time. After the fictional narrator leaves this fictional band, they record a fictional song called "Black Smoke (No Pope)" and send it to the non-fictional Sub Pop. This is the non-fiction version of that fictional single. Of interest may be the fact that a cover of an even earlier, more fictional "Black Smoke (No Pope)" was recorded by the non-fictional Joe Pernice and appears on the non-fictional companion CD to his novel. That CD is called "It Feels So Good When I Stop (Soundtrack)" and it will be released on his Ashmont Records, also in August 2009.

Inspired by artists such as Etta James and Julie London, Lizzie sang a sultry Jazz set around the traps in Sydney. Enthralling fans with her riveting stage presence and seductive voice, around late 2007, she teamed up with Deniz Tek to pursue a lifelong love of Soul music. Deniz's hard rocking background with Radio Birdman is well known. In recent years he has also worked with Scott Morgan, soul shouter from Detroit's Rationals. Together they performed numbers like Otis Redding's 'Respect' and Johnnie Taylor's 'Hijackin' Love' to crazed audiences across the USA.
