Tindersticks are an English alternative rock band led by the
singer Stuart A. Staples. They recorded several albums which
became popular years after their release. One of them is the
slightly bright but still dark coloured Curtains. The songs on
the album develops themselves into intimidate and destructive
pearls. Stuart and Co created some melancholic melodies
questioning on privacy issues and the feelings of lost. The
warmer tones can be found in the vocal parts and putting away
some of the depressive moods from their first albums.
Tindersticks recorded eleven albums to date and recorded
songs for which Stuart A. Staples wrote lyrics based on his own
life and that of people surrounding him.
This expanded edition contains the 15 original album songs
plus 9 bonus tracks with, among others, “Paco’s Theme”, “A
Marriage Made In Heaven” (duet with Isabella Rossellini) and

Sun Racket' is the brand new album from legendary Boston trio Throwing Muses, consisting of Kristin Hersh, David Narcizo and Bernard Georges. The follow up to 2013's 'Purgatory/Paradise' is an outpouring of modal guitars, reverbed shapes, echoey drums and driving bass set behind Kristen Hersh's well-thumbed notebook of storylines. A ten-song opus of suitably wrought tales set against a wall of sound that's at once calm and ethereal before building into glorious cacophonous crescendos. When Throwing Muses wrote their last album, they were shattered. Pieces were coming and going, elements repeating and charging the whole. "It sounded beautiful jumping around like that". Two-minute songs reappearing as twisted instrumentals or another song's bridge. They mimicked the effect live which kept them on their toes. Whatever was happening was already over in other words. Polymath percussionist Thor Harris inaugurated Thor & Friends in the autumn of 2015 after five years of touring as the percussionist of iconic avant-rock ensemble Swans. The project is intended as a vehicle for experimentation with the conceptual vocabulary of American Minimalism collaborating with a rotating cast of Austin-based musicians. The ensemble has three core members, Thor Harris, Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah 'Goat' Gautier - with its line-up expanding and contracting with the flux of compositional and improvisational contexts. Thor & Friends draws on classic Minimalist composers, including Terry Riley and Steve Reich, but also amalgamate such diverse influences as Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Moondog and The Necks around a polyrhythmic core of mallet-struck instruments, primarily marimba, xylophone and vibraphone. Circling these core motifs are shifting streams of everything from processed pedal steel and analog synthesizer to violin, viola, stand-up bass, clarinet, duduk and oboe. Thor & Friends, '4' is the band's fourth LP. Initially put out as part of Joyful Noise Recordings, 2019 Artist in Residence, it is now being released far and wide through Joyful Noise. Thor writes, "Thor & Friends is a collective of musicians. Some players are classically trained, others are punk musicians with no reading skills, just spirit and will. Signed to the prosperous cult label Harvest, they debuted in 1969 with "Alchemy", an instrumental jazzy-psych improvisational album. A fully formed masterpiece came in 1970 on the already aforementioned self-titled opus, also known as "Elements". In 1997 a brother and sister climbed into the third floor attic of their Southwest Detroit family homestead and bashed out a primitive cover of David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream.” In an alternate reality, it’s all they ever do musically. The brother leads a spartan life as a dutiful upholsterer and the sister finishes culinary school and continues to make heartwarming food.

But that doesn’t happen. Something sparks in both of them. They take their simple guitar-drums-voice approach to a local open mic night on Bastille Day. After thirteen years as one of the centerpieces of Sweden’s experimental
rock scene The Skull Defekts return with their fnal, self-titled album.
The Skull Defekts are known for merging the coarse vitality of punk with
the ritualism of folk dances to create music that is addictive, wondrously
discordant, and rooted in a belief in the overwhelming power of pure
sound.
Their fnal self-titled album is the band’s most composed effort to date
and features new member Mariam Wallentin (Wildbirds & Peacedrums)
joining core members Joachim Nordwall (founder of groundbreaking
iDEAL Recordings), Daniel Fagge Fagerström (8 Days of Nothing), and
Henrik Rylander (Union Carbide Productions).
The members of The Skull Defekts are singular forces in the European
experimental scene. Nordwall has frequently collaborated with
acclaimed saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, including in his Fire! Orchestra,
alongside Wallentin, who herself has collaborated with Swedish singer
Lykke Li. In addition to The Skull Defekts, Nordwall and Rylander have
worked together on numerous projects, including Orchestra Of Constant
Distress, and Saturn And The Sun. The Defekts have worked with a wide
variety of labels, a testament to their creative energy and the diversity
of their output, including Important, Meudiademorte, Diagonal, Aa,
iDeal, Touch, and Kning Disk. Frequent collaborator and singular artist
in his own right Daniel Higgs again created the album artwork.

Their second album, Skiff, is a new direction for The Skiffle Players. Now, they all sing and write. There is no leader. Recorded at Infinitespin Recorders in Van Nuys CA, with engineer Matt “Linny” Linesch, the album begins with a bold opening; the Farmer Dave Scher-penned “Cara,” heavy information for the soul. Then, into classic Cass McCombs insanity on “Local Boy,” a wild ride on the run from the cops. Third is a touching tribute to a bygone companion, “Miss It When It’s Gone,” written and led by Neal Casal.

The album’s revolving perspective continues to bounce around, leaving no apparent land to stand upon. In that, it is deeply subversive. For there is nothing to defend, but the ability to transform and imagine.

The album continues to unfold back to McCombs with a satire on justice, “The Law Offices Of Dewey, Cheatum And Howe.” It goes from the saloon “Long Horns, Long Necks, Long Legs,” to the rainforest “Herbamera.” Casal blasts in again with the sun-bleached rambler, “Los Angeles Alleyway.” Scher’s “Skiffleman” sings a song for everyone. McCombs plays with memory in a song about coming of age in the Bay Area on “Oakland Scottish Rite Temple Waltz.” Penultimately, “Santa Fe” is an elliptical broadside about materialism and waste. The album concludes by pushing off again, out into the familiar waters of a traditional skiffle number, “Sweet Georgia Brown,” each member taking a perhaps all-too casual solo.

This is acoustic dance music at its finest. It is also refreshingly contradictory, irreverent and mystical, deeply personal and communal, and traditional and profane—the ever revolving and disintegrating ship known as Skiff.

from The Shacks instant classic debut album Haze.
The A side “My Name Is…” is one of the first songs The Shacks wrote shortly after they met.
Producer Leon Michels had the track and the title for it and sent it on to The Shacks to pen the
lyrics. Max Shrager says of writing the lyrics “this song is about setting a time and place to meet
up, wandering around like ghosts until we spotted each other in a crowd of strangers. It is
inspired by "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos”. Musically, it has the infectious
attraction that all of El Michels productions do. A poppy melody balanced out by the rough and
tough rhythm section made this the perfect match for Shannon’s subtle and sweet vocals.
The B side, “Sand Song” is a beautiful tune about an ugly subject; global warming. The
hauntingly beautiful guitar melody that the Shrager produced track begins with is met with the
equally somber vocals from Shannon. Reverb drenched background vocals and organ
flourishes follow suit with the arrangement showcasing The Shacks razor sharp musicianship.
A stand out tune from the album and the embodiment of what made iD magazine call The
Shacks “classic American sounds…simultaneously recalling Sesame Street and David Lynch’s
nocturnal crooners”.

After six years, The Notwist return with three new tracks on Morr Music. It’s both an exposition of the the band’s musical variety and a prospect on a forthcoming album. Six years have passed since The Notwist released their last regular studio album, but that doesn’t mean that the members of this outstanding band have been idle in the meantime. There have been side projects, movie scoring, and other activities, like programming four editions of „Alien Disko“, a festival taking place in Munich, Germany. One of that event’s regular guests was the Japanese duo Tenniscoats – and a lovely side effect from that was an evolving friendship between the two bands. It lead to various collaborations: most recently in a new album by international band „Spirit Fest“ (featuring Tenniscoats singer Saya & The Notwist’s Markus & Cico) & a deep digging compilation of Japanese indie music called „Minna Miteru“. The title track of this new EP is another step in this collaboration – and a first step to an upcoming album by The Notwist – as it features Saya, who lends her voice to the percussive song. It is build around a slightly detuned synthline, which is contrasted by more pragmatic guitar work. „It neither sounds like The Notwist, Tenniscoats, nor Spirit Fest“, tells Markus Acher. „Just like Saya is saying in the lyrics: ‘I want to go outside, I want to meet people’, „Ship“ is another chapter in what The Notwist always tries to do: redefining itself, exploring something new, integrating different styles of music and collaborating with musicians they admire.“ The second song „Loose Ends“ is, in contrast, more classic Notwist material. A gently expanding ballad, this time featuring the distinctive voice of Markus Acher. The song came out of recording sessions for the soundtrack for „One Of These Days“, a movie by Bastian Günther. The EP then closes with „Avalanche“ a carefully optimistic instrumental. With its variety of styles, „Ship“ also serves as an outlook on an upcoming album, which will be influenced by the band’s experiences from their detailed work of creating sounds and moods for film soundtracks, and it will include more collaborations with international guest musicians.

Back in 2007, the Tokyo-based duo known as Suishou no Fune visited San Francisco, and during their stay participated in a recording session with old friends Mason Jones and Mike Shoun, who were operating under the name Numinous Eye. That session was released in a very small edition several years later by the Essence Music label from Brazil as "Black Flowers Of The Forest In The Cosmos". When Suishou no Fune were planning their latest trip to San Francisco in May of 2018, as part of filming for a documentary, plans were made for a follow-up recording. The quartet crammed themselves into a small rehearsal space, along with two guests who filmed the proceedings, and spent the afternoon creating dark, heavy psychedelic atmospheres.
