Imagine 100,000 drummers taking a break from a wank to practice drums in the basement of their parents' house. Everybody hates a drummer. Drummers all feel it. But drummers seem to love each other. Nobody knows why - or nobody bothers to ask them. Man Forever decided to sally forth to unknown climes - be it a moon landing - in the lunar module or orbiting in the commandmodule- who the F cares. Kid Millions wrote and recorded a piece in February of 2010 with a little help from his friends.Then he got the stupidest idea in the world: play this stuff live; take this shit on tour. He was bewildered by the enthusiasm of his admired compatriots. The drummers all came from the country without borders - the land of the helpless rats crawling around desperately in search of a scrap of PASSION, INNOVATION, ROCK, ENERGY, ACTION. They found it themselves. People don't "found" movements for nothing anyway. They found themselves and decided to create this twisted gnarled mass of a cataract to play live. Cut to Bloomington: the heart of the rock science movement and the home of the patrons of this project. Those wise men and women hosted the performance you now hold in your hands. Man Forever was just arriving in the lunar orbit. The module's detached and descending to the surface. Some of them are out of contact with mission control. The rats are scurrying everywhere now. Xray Eyeballs is the brainchild of O.J. San Felipe. Originally from San Francisco, O.J. landed in Brooklyn in 2000 after numerous cross-country adventures. Upon settling, O.J. quickly cemented himself in the underground Brooklyn punk, noise, and indie scene playing in numerous bands including Golden Triangle (Mexican Summer, Hardly Art). While Golden Triangle is known as an all around party band that bashes out garage pop tunes that could easily be found on a Nuggets compilation, O.J. had something else in mind for Xray Eyeballs. Starting as a solo project, O.J. aimed to make pop songs that kids could remember after leaving the party. O.J. explains, "I just wanted to make every song sound like a lullaby." These songs are filled with dreamy pop hooks and melancholic melodies, covered in a spooky haze.

From Tooting, South West London, DIGNAN PORCH started as the home recording project of Joe Walsh, who pretty much as soon as he created a Myspace account, got asked by revered NY label Captured Tracks to put out a single. This became the ninety second slacker-psyche-pop mini anthem 'On a Ride', which also featured on Merok Records 'Dont Die Wondering' compilation. The single was followed swiftly by the release of their home made LP 'Tendrils', also on Captured Tracks. In July they released new track Surge on a now sold out 4 way split 7" with Colours, Cheatahs and Not Cool. For their new EP 'Deluded' Dignan have stepped into a studio with the full band, plus Henry Withers from Lovvers / Human Hair working the desk. Four tracks (Yards, Stream, Like it Was Again and Footsteps in Snow) recorded in the studio and 4 tracks were again home-recorded by Joe, on his Tascam 8 Track, though having now honed his skills somewhat, the tracks sound brighter and less fuzz-swamped than the early stuff.

In the cold and dreary winter of 2009, alone in his bedroom and hidden from the darkness of the world outside Justin Paul Vallesteros had begun working on something that would change his life forever. What began as a couple notes played in experimentation soon transformed into vibrant melodies that soon shook Vallesteros' musical foundation to the core. Guitar chords laced over pulse sating synth melodies and drum rhythms was a departure from Justin's previous work; he began to create the dreamy nostalgic pop music that is Craft Spells. Justin is a California native who now finds residence in the mid-size town of Stockton, the heart of California. Craft Spells is the epitome of the recent uprising of the DIY music scene. Coming from a place not known for its musical history or impact on music culture it seemed destined for Craft Spells to stay as a bedroom pop project with no final destination in sight. But soon the shear amount of blog volume his work began to generate was unimaginable. Sites like Weekly Tape Deck, Pasta Primavera, No Modest Bear and Pitchfork's Forkcast took notice and thus began the never ending worldwide posting and re-posting on blog after blog of Craft Spells. The sound is led by Justin's blissful voice, backed behind beautiful guitar melodies over heavenly synths, pop basslines and looped rhythms. NIKI AND THE DOVE is a band from Stockholm, Sweden with two members, Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf. Their songs are full of magic and light but with an unsettling darkness hidden beneath the surface. It's pop music but a world away from the production line aesthetics of much modern chart music. Since getting together in February 2010, Malin and Gustaf have been busy writing together, figuring out just how pop music works and then discovering new ways to break it. SHINJI spielte Millions die Tracks zwischen Proben in Oska vor - Kid war überrascht und überzeugt, dass man diese Musik unbedingt allein - ohne den Rest des Konzertstücks - hören muss. [ENG]The idea for this record, Masuko's first solo work, was born during preparations for a series of Boredoms concerts in 2009 when Shinji played Kid Millions (of Oneida and Brah Records) some backing tracks he'd created for the Boredoms' current concert piece - Boadrum. For a short section of the live performance an incredible mass of multi-tracked droning guitars is mixed into the pounding chaos of the 9 person,multi-drummer ensemble. Shiji playedMillions this unadorned recording while they were between rehearsals at Shinji's home in Osaka and Kid was astounded, convinced that this music needed to be heard on its own.

Over atmospheric instrumentation expanded by cinematic structure and pacing, Pearlty presents Knifeplay somewhere between dream-pop influenced shoegaze and lofty slowcore, never fully committing to one or the other in its insistence on creating an immersive, organic world.

Originally released in 2019, Knifeplay’s vivid debut Pearlty documents songwriter Tj Strohmer’s expressions of early adulthood in what he describes as “the journey from innocence to experience.”

Written during a time of immense inspiration, Strohmer was able to peel himself away from detached nihilism, uncovering the physicality and therapeutic powers of songwriting. Newly emboldened by this discovery and the talented community surrounding him, Strohmer channeled this revelation into his work, taking Knifeplay from a bedroom experiment that merely wrote songs to a more substantial project with a purpose.

Pearlty’s various climactic passages, like those heard on the impressionist album opener “Tears”, envelop listeners in textured walls of distorted guitar and noisy breakdowns, a distinct hallmark of shoegaze – but Knifeplay’s compositions go far beyond such conventions.

Also featured are downtempo compositions – such as the tribute track “Angel” – that call on a range of influences, from grunge to lofi pop, all the way back to slowcore. Layers of Strohmer’s falsetto lilt adorn the songs with another dimension of sentimentality, while rounding out the sonic vastness of the group’s emotionally enrapturing style, lending impressive depth to the band’s debut full-length.

Prologue (in which...)Pianist Eric Morrison, guitarist Andrew Deutsch, bassist Brad Truax and drummer Sean Martin formally dub themselves HOME (a nod to a fictional band in a soap opera they were writing). As the recordings started to pile up, they form a label/collective called Screw Music Forever and begin to offer $1 cassettes at local record stores. In a freak happenstance, one of these cassettes lands in the lap of a Relativity Records A&R man, who soon rolls up smoking large cigars and offering money for Home IX. REMASTERED BY STEVE ALBINI AND BOB WESTON AT CHICAGO MASTERING!Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7". After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7". Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7" were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7" of The Model/He's A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). Narin Yaln?zl?k, She Past Away's second LP from 2015, was highly anticipated. Their first album, Belirdi Gece, introduced the Turkish trio's post-punk sensibilities over danceable beats-a concoction of melancholy sounds that gripped the darkwave scene. With Narin Yaln?zl?k, Volkan Caner, Idris Akbulut, and Doruk Öztürkcan approach their signature sound with a richer, fuller angle. It is more mature, less monotone: it shimmers in all shades of grey. The LP-whose title translates to "delicate solitude" in English-reflects the complacency of life, the staleness and despair of a soul caught deep in the throes of depression. She Past Away began the vanguard of darkwave artists in the 2010s. With Caner's deep, wearied vocals and their punchy drum machine, it's easy to compare them to certain 1980s bands that are heroes in the goth scene (The Cure, Clan of Xymox, Sisters of Mercy) but the band maintains a sound all their own with Narin Yaln?zl?k. Here, the tradition is upheld but transformed into something new. "Soluk" begins the album with high expectations, replete with war cries that shriek from beyond. Much like the band's previous release, the focus is on the severity of drums that move along the music-"Asimilasyon" is a great example of that. The song recalls the uncanny, a sense of foreboding, and the fear of not knowing who or what is watching from the shadows. "Uzakta" takes the excitement down with its slower, guitar-laden post-punk ballad. Here, She Past Away sounds more like The Cure than they ever have, displaying the fragility of longing and loss. The following song, "Narin Yaln?zl?k," shines through with an usual atmosphere of hope (one derived from the minimal wave movement) that glimmers through the sad guitars. But no, the hope does not remain for long. "Hayaller?" (which translates to "dreams?") dives back into the depths of sorrow with its ultimate gloom.
