The second of November’s Feral Child releases is another absolute beauty. A beautiful comeback record of sorts for Marc Rigelsford’s Magic ARM project. The 45 is a taster for his own privately released, and utterly fabulous “Dance Mania” full length, currently available via his bandcamp page. Recorded in isolation in a former whiskey distillery, “Dance Mania” is “Magic Arm whittling and distilling sound down to pure forms, a collage of songs, mood pieces, drones, found sounds and stirring instrumental passages”. The two tracks here are lifted from the album, with its A side, the majestic “Good Views Near North” having already attained 6music airplay. The songs’ treated piano opening offers no hint to the beautifully incessant, kinda’ motorik groove that then takes over- wonderfully skewed and quite otherworldly perhaps. The groove then changes tack again as it closes with cellos and strings aiding further it’s general ‘out there’ mood. It’s a beautiful piece and by releasing it on 45, one would hope to push Marc’s music out a wee bit further, certainly it’s a thrill for Feral Child to release it and it’s flip, the more electronic, and equally fabulous “432” is just great too.

instrumentalist and producer. Her sound is a unique blend of psych-soul, folktronica and experimental synth-pop.

Sarah released her acclaimed debut album 'Of The New World' on First Word in 2015, which was written, produced and performed by Sarah from her home studio, with the assistance of drummer, engineer & husband, Timmy Rickard. Her projects have seen support from the likes of Lauren Laverne, Tom Ravenscroft, Nemone & Chris Hawkins (bbc 6 Music), Jamie Cullum (bbc Radio 2), FIP Radio, Clash & The Guardian, to name a few, and she's toured the UK with Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Golden Rules (Lex). There have been additional collaborations with label-mate Quiet Dawn (on the 2021 compilation / EP 'A Family Affair') and with her brother, Paul White - a revered producer in his own right, with credits including Danny Brown and Sudan Archives.

Following a hiatus, Sarah now brings us her sophomore album, 'Unfathomable'. A project that offers up escapism from the mundane, enticing us to connect with our natural planet in this prevalent time, via the eyes of a new mother.

In her words, Sarah states that the album is "about escape. It's about deflating the ego by looking up to the endlessness of outer space, connecting with the greatness of mother nature, and loving how unfathomable the universe and life itself is".

The nightmare continues. Last summer, Pozi's 176 EP came out just as the coronavirus pandemic was offering us its first false dawn. Fast forward twelve months and another devastating wave later, we're still a disorientated, shell-shocked mess; moving once again towards normality, but with the energy-sapping tension of continued restrictions. A grimly perfect time then for the south London three-piece to return with new EP 'Typing' on Prah Recordings. The five tracks here reflect another stage in Pozi's evolution. Since coming out of the gate they've been a bristling, frenetic presence, toeing the line between dissonance and pop sensibility. As the 176 EP was a refinement of what they did on PZ1, Typing sees the trio becoming yet more comfortable in their relationship as a band and increasingly confident in how far they can push their sound. Typing isn't a lockdown record, but it has been informed by it. More importantly, though, it's yet another significant step forward from a band who've so far felt like something of an underground secret, despite being championed by BBC Radio 6 Music and in various places by contemporaries such as Sleaford Mods, Squid and Sports Team. On Ballad of a Tryhard, the third album by Scott Hardware, the moniker of Toronto-based musician and composer Scott Harwood, he attempts a response by honouring the splendor of “living between emotions.” It’s an album where a rich inner monologue, and the undefined space between reflection and realization can offer an invaluable reprieve. Over luminous keys and sky-sweeping melodies, Harwood reverse engineers his capabilities as a composer skilled in the art of complexity to deliver his boldest album to date — unselfconsciously ambitious Y2K rock; a reimagination of experimental adult contemporary that tweaks the limits of soft rock with curiosity and appreciation.

On Ballad of a Tryhard Hardware conducts a painstaking character evaluation to better understand the world by looking inward. Suspended and exalting, the album bursts with cinematic flourishes that ring with a courageous form of earnestness. Because once you examine the internal toll of people-pleasing, and question if charisma has been overvalued, is there space to imagine a new reality that seeks to uplift rather than wallow — observing sparse moments of beauty and light amidst a world in constant mourning?

Crafted in Spain and co-produced with Matt Smith (Prince Nifty, Owen Pallett), Ballad of a Tryhard is a snapshot of weeks spent in Elche, a sleepy Mediterranean city on the southeast coast, wandering through emptied-out streets, becoming acquainted with the interiors of a historic apartment block, and living for the first time with a familiar love. With unlimited time on his hands, Harwood would write slowly, playing piano until dawn. The result is an album with ornate and bucolic orchestral arrangements that nod to a background in techno and house with a tangled web of synths and strings. On tracks like “Summer” (featuring members of Phedre, Lee Paradise, Whimm, Vallens, Blunt Chunks, and Jaunt) and “Love Through the Trees,” Harwood tries his hand on bouncy, heartstring ballads built for the open road, while “Watersnake” is an unstoppable earworm that makes an anthemic proposition for her own self-surety.

Prior to his solo work as Scott Hardware, Harwood played with indie rock stalwart Toronto groups like Ostrich Tuning and released ambient pop as Ken Park. A move to Berlin influenced his 2016 debut, Mutate Repeat Infinity, which centered the dancefloor as a site of queer resilience. 2020’s Engel pulled direct inspiration from Wim Wender’s 1987 haunting masterpiece Wings of Desire. In 2021 Harwood was accepted into the Slaight Family Music Lab.

Pale Lights are Phil Sutton, Lisa Goldstein, Maria Pace, Andy Adler, and Suzanne Nienaber. Lead singer and songwriter Sutton was a founding member of Comet Gain, and has played with a number of groups over the years, mostly drumming for the likes of Velocette, The Soft City, The Projects, Kicker, and Cinema Red and Blue. Across two albums and a clutch of in-demand singles the band has established themselves as exemplary exponents of a classic style of pop that aligns with them groups like Felt, The Go-Betweens, and just about all of the best bands from the Flying Nun and Creation catalogs. 'You And I" is Pale Lights' contribution to our SLR30 Singles Series and it's a lovely way to spend three minutes and twelve seconds. Sporting an indelible melody and some very fine guitar strum 'n' jangle, it is the sort of tune that 7" singles were invented. By the time Gary Olson's trumpet comes in at the mid-way point you know that you're in the presence of greatness.

"Under A Common Sky" is the third album from London based four-piece Electric Litany. The 9 tracks were written in a beach house in Corfu during the Summer of 2017, before being recorded at Fish Factory, North London by producer George Botis. It is Electric Litany's most ambitious recording to date. Inspired not only by the nocturnal nature of the island, but also the humanitarian crisis in which we find ourselves. The album invites us into dark territory with early tracks "CFU" and "Sealight" before ascending to the heavenly heights of mid-album track "Bedroom" - a song reminiscent of classic 1970s songwriting. Tales of humanity that permeated earlier albums once again reveal themselves in the unambiguously titled Refugee. The almost dystopian cinematic production acting as a fitting backdrop to the record. Under A Common Sky has already gained international attention with the release of the video teaser for the haunting album opener "Azure" on One RPM’s YouTube channel, and big things are bound to happen.

the time nor the place ever seemed quite right to release the track... until now. Written by maestro Jonathan Rado (of
Foxygen) and the late, great Richard Swift,Houndmouth's version of ''Talk'' picks up Bruce Springsteen in a flying
saucer and drops him off ''down on High Street'' in 1989. The jam features synth-y bass, foot-stomping drums and
fuzzy guitar riffs that linger in your head.
Accompanying the collab track is one fromHoundmouth's Shane Cody appropriately titled ''Shane's Song''. The band
slows it down then speeds it up this time for a reflective song of ''could-have'' and ''should have''. The percussion focus
here is tastefully accessorized by smooth guitar licks and Cody's falsetto. Crescendoing into a dizzying whirlwind,
''Shane's Song'' takes heartbreak and makes a beautiful sound for all to enjoy.''

Big Crown Records is proud to present the next single
from The Shacks instant classic debut album Haze.
The A side “My Name Is…” is one of the first songs The Shacks wrote shortly after they met.
Producer Leon Michels had the track and the title for it and sent it on to The Shacks to pen the
lyrics. Max Shrager says of writing the lyrics “this song is about setting a time and place to meet
up, wandering around like ghosts until we spotted each other in a crowd of strangers. It is
inspired by "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos”. Musically, it has the infectious
attraction that all of El Michels productions do. A poppy melody balanced out by the rough and
tough rhythm section made this the perfect match for Shannon’s subtle and sweet vocals.
The B side, “Sand Song” is a beautiful tune about an ugly subject; global warming. The
hauntingly beautiful guitar melody that the Shrager produced track begins with is met with the

Bombay Studios was an 8-track studio located in the sleepy backwoods village of Smyrna, Georgia which briefly operated from 1981 to 1983. During that time, Joe Perry, the proprietor of Bombay was a routine live sound engineer at venues sprinkled across Atlanta including the Agora Ballroom and 688. Most famously, he holds the distinction of recording the first studio session ever by R.E.M. (And no, that session has never been released.) As was often the case, other local bands would record there including Love Tractor, Keith and the Satellites (soon to be called The Georgia Satellites), DDT and Oh-OK. Amongst the littany of bands that’d come in for a day or two and commit their material to tape was the upstart Athens five-piece Limbo District. While looking through third guitarist Kelly Crow’s archive, I stumbled across an unmarked cassette tape of a three song session. Jump ahead to famed collector Lo Yo Yo’s Todd Ploharski who had the same session but on the J-card was written “Bombay.” And just like that, the band’s second recording session from the spring of 1982 had been unearthed. This session is, indeed, the band’s second line-up with Art In The Dark’s Tim Lacy on guitar who strengthened the band’s songwriting and performances. The three songs recorded “Fetish This,” “Daydreaming,” and “Two Of Screams” have more in common with the art damaged New York No Wave scene than any oblique pop, rock or jangle in the Classic City at the time. Not coincidentally, Limbo bassist Davey Stevenson’s big brother Gordon was the bassist in Teenage Jesus and the Jerks who would consistently send his kid brother missives from the front line of New York’s scuzzy vanguard.

Spotlessly restored by Jason NeSmith, ‘Bombay’ celebrates that day in Joe Perry’s studio 42 years ago. “Daydreaming” is included as a digital bonus as it wouldn’t fit on the record. All artwork was culled from the voluminous Limbo District archive. The front is original art by vocalist Craig Woodall while the back is by guitarist Kelly Crow who cribbed from German artist George Grosz for the main visual while Crow scribbled marker around it. Each copy of the record has a uniquely colored scheme done by various friends of Chunklet including musicians from Honey Radar, Lifeguard, Vangas and other esteemed degenerates. The insert features a never before photo of the band in front of an S&M hangout called the Hell Hole off the main strip at Coney Island taken by Ellen McGrail in the spring of 1982. Also included are handwritten lyrics by Craig Woodall.

“Bombay” is the Limbo District’s fifth vinyl release in less than a year with more coming out very soon including the band’s famed Drive-In session with Mitch Easter. Stay tuned into this channel for continued Limbo chaos.

"We almost thought: it could turn out well". L'APPEL DU VIDE from Chemnitz/Germany worked two nerve-wracking years on their Debut-EP. Now their "Abwärtsspirale" (downward spiral) is set into motion. They describe their sound as "Dark Punk" , but that's just scratching the surface. The spectrum reaches from aggressive-gloomy Surf Punk ("Das bin ich nicht" / that's not me) to brittle, repetitive and noisy ("Aufmerksamkeit" / attention) and hymnical-melodic Post Punk ("Delirium"). "Das Programm" (the program), a bittersweet romance in times of total surveillance, is unusual calm and melancholic thanks to an 60ies-organ and background vocals from Mara. In their lyrics L'APPEL DU VIDE use sparse words and deal with denial, failure and alienation. "Delirium" could be a soundtrack to the global pandemic, but was written in 2019. The songs were recorded by Flatty. Refinement came from Max Herrmann/Gloven Studio Leipzig (Mix) and Mikey Young (Mastering).

Released just months after their debut album Dive, "Receiver" finds Lifeguard in a much different headspace. Colder and more direct than anything in their catalog, "Receiver" is the sound of the band fully coming into their own. KAI Slater and Asher CASE’s guitars call, respond, and spider web across the track, centered on Isaac LOWENSTEIN’s tasteful mid tempo beat. The splintered finale is the only time the song feels like it’s losing control, collapsing into its stuttered, feedback laced end. B side "Sun Ra Jane" oscillates between time signatures before opening up into a liminal zone that is truly the threshold of where Lifeguard have pushed their sound to date. A new sense of space and maturity saturates these songs, recorded and produced by the band at their Mixed Messages studio.

La Langue Bleue is a collaboration between Los Angeles avant-rock outfit Storefront Church, legendary singer of Stereolab Laetitia Sadier, and producer/drummer Henry Kwapis (Dijon, Dominic Fike, Dora Jar). La Langue Bleue was written to be featured in AMC’s Monsieur Spade; a noir set in the 60s on the French countryside spinning off of Dashiell Hammett’s iconic character Sam Spade, now played by Clive Owen. The song, with its surreal lyrics and cinematic tone, references the giants of French film music such as Jean-Claude Vannier, Francois de Roubaix and Michel Legrand.

The B-52s, R.E.M., Pylon, Love Tractor... The roster of early Athens legends is quite distinguished, but one of their closest peers never so much as put a record out. That band is Limbo District. Active from April 1981 until their unceremonious disbanding in May 1983, there was a grand total of one movie made of them by Jim Herbert entitled Carnival while they existed. "They were the band's band," as Mark Cline from Love Tractor so eloquently put it on NPR. While the "Encased" track is on this, the band's first session in the summer/fall of 1981, two other tracks ("Knock Knock Lobo" and "Rhythm Forward") are included. The lyrics were written by vocalst Craig Woodall and songs were arranged and written by the band that included former Factory star Jerry Ayers (neé Jeremy Ayers, Silva Thin) on percussion, from northern France, Dominique Amet on Farfisa organ, Spaniard Margarita Bilbao on guitar and from Dublin, Georgia, Davey Stevenson on bass. This line up of the band existed no more than a few seasons and then went away to be reborn with TIM Lacy (later of ART IN THE Dark) and Kelly Crow both replacing Margarita on guitar in their own time. Behold the greatest ghost to ever haunt Athens, GA: Limbo District. Expect more. Much more.

Shifting gear on the B-side, 'Honesty (I Don't Wanna Know)' was already a piece of throbbing and discordant proto-punk and on this remix London psych-pop experimentalists Vanishing Town turn it into an even more abrasive and unpredictable beast. Now being revisted via these remixes, Veik's 'Surrounding Structures' album was rooted in avant-garde krautrock and 70s no wave and inspired by brutalist and modernist architecture. A figure who collaborated with M. Blues Lawyer is back on Dark Entries with a new 7” EP of summery alt-pop. Fresh off the heels of their critically acclaimed Dark Entries debut, Sight Gags On The Radio expands the Blues Lawyer universe, one where lovelorn millennials struggle to find their place. The four songs were recorded one afternoon by Rob I. Miller, Blues Lawyer co-founder and chief songwriter, in the band’s Oakland rehearsal space. It was recorded just days before Elyse Schrock (singer, songwriter, drummer, and music video creator) would be leaving the Bay Area – her home for the past decade – due to the soaring cost of living. The first single, “Have Nots,” shows the band moving away from the rapid chord changes that characterized their earlier work towards hazy guitar textures. It is accompanied by a tender music video portrait of the band reuniting in Portland, where Schrock now resides. The video documents the band’s touring life: playing pizza parlors and billiard clubs, sleeping on floors, and killing time between gigs. These touching images are elevated by Schrock’s trademark animations and editing style. Blues Lawyer also experiment with new songwriting configurations on this EP. “True Love’s Only Name,” was musically developed by Blues Lawyer guitarist, Ellen Matthews, lyrically by Miller, and sung by Schrock. Sight Gags On The Radio captures the essence of the band's sound but also reflects their development as songwriters. The outcome is Blues Lawyer’s most compelling artistic proclamation to date. Each 7” is housed in a warm orange toned jacket designed by Eloise Leigh featuring lyrics on the back. Blues Lawyer - Sight Gags On The Radio 7” EP releases Friday, September 29th via Dark Entries days before the band embarks on their first tour of Europe and the United Kingdom.
