Cats and mice seem to be real enemies in real life – one is chased and eaten by the other. With „Cat & Mauss“ (Maus is the German word for mouse), love is involved. Romana Lezaic and Torsten Mauss met 4 years ago, got married immediately and started their musical project during the disruptive time of the lockdown. In the meantime, they have found their sound: somewhere between old western movies, a David Lynch soundtrack, analog rhythm machines and psychedelic songwriting, their debut album „Tales from the desert, tales from the sea“ has now been created, which will be released digital and on vinyl in May 2024 on the German label _less records from Düsseldorf. On February 2, 2024, the two will release their first single and their video „Sinking deeper“, followed by a series of concerts in Germany and Denmark. Torsten G. Mauss, born in New York, has already released four solo albums under his solo project TG Mauss and previously had the electro-pop band „Tonetraeger“ together with Oscar winning composer Volker Bertelmann (Hauschka) and played and toured as a part of drummer Thomas Klein ́s Sølyst. (of the Düsseldorf avant-garde band Kreidler). Romana Lezaic-Mauss is a Croatian singer living in Germany. She started singing and dancing traditional Croatian „Folklore“ as a child. Faye Webster's songs are a direct line to the human unconscious, and "Underdressed at the Symphony" documents what happens when one begins to build a new self from the rubble of old routines. Her previously released songs "But Not Kiss" and "Lifetime" already show the rarely explored territory of emotional intimacy, where desire and passion conflict with comfort, understanding and even platonic love. These themes are echoed in "Underdressed at the Symphony," along with hyper-specific symbols that paint a picture of Webster's life, such as "eBay Purchase History" or the objects she covets at "Lego Ring."

"Underdressed at the Symphony" was recorded with her longtime band at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas and revels in experimentation, playfulness and adventure. Vocoder moments, orchestral flourishes, spooky harmonies and synthesisers emerge without compromising the spacious quality of Webster's earlier music, so her lyrics still have plenty of room to bubble to the surface with added layers of meaning. Matt "Pistol" Stoessel's pedal steel sounds provide just the right shimmer, while Wilco's Nels Cline contributes his undeniably soulful dexterity to a number of songs. Huddling together on the literal border between the US and Mexico gave the musicians room to isolate, focus and experiment. All of the songs on this album are live recordings, some of which were recorded on the first or second take, showcasing Webster's talent for drawing a universal experience from a very specific, seemingly small moment.

In October of 1994, shortly after the death of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl re-entered Robert Lang's Seattle studio, where Nirvana had conducted their final recording sessions. Intending to create demos of his own material, over the course of a week Grohl would commit his ideas to tape. Except for some guitar assistance from Greg Dulli (of Afghan Wigs) on one track, Grohl would literally become a one-man band during these sessions, writing all the songs, playing all the instruments and singing all the vocals himself. Recorded at Tramps in New York City, these musicians served as both an opening act and as backing band for Mike Watt (on his tour promoting Ball-Hog or Tugboat?). Experience the initial Foo Fighters lineup live on stage, two months prior to their first album release.

Limited Red Vinyl.On July 1, his birthday, Sufjan Stevens is releasing two alternate versions of his song, "Fourth of July." Both versions were recorded around 2014: "Fourth of July (April Base Version)" was recorded in Eau Claire, WI at Justin Vernon's April Base studio, and "Fourth of July (DUMBO Version)" was recorded in Sufjan's old studio in Brooklyn, NY. The original version of "Fourth of July" appeared on Sufjan's 2015 album, Carrie & Lowell. As is (and was) his custom, Sufjan would often rework different versions of his songs while recording an album, and "Fourth of July" was no exception. (Other versions & remixes of the song were released on "The Greatest Gift" mixtape and on the "Exploding Whale" 7" single.) These two latest versions were recently found on old harddrives. The refrain of the song, "We're all gonna die," invokes a meditation on human mortality and fragility, even as it acts as an anchor of stoic hope. Its solemnity invites listeners to feel comfort, connection _ even joy _ wrought from great pain and loss. The song has recently had a resurgence with listeners _ which may speak to a deep national grief and sense of loss.This 7-inch in red will ship in December 2022, which marks the 10-year anniversary of Carrie's death.

Beige Palace are a Steve Albini-certified minimalist rock trio, featuring the talents of Freddy Vinehill-Cliffe (Thank), Kelly Bishop (Gloomy Planets) and Ant Bedford (Cattle). ‘Making Sounds For Andy’ is their second full-length LP, which on first listen sees the band taking more straightforward and immediate approach than that of its predecessor ‘Leg’, with shorter songs, more traditional verse/chorus structures, and more typical “rock” riffs. But it’s all a
dirty trick! Upon deeper listening, ‘Making Sounds For Andy’ is a collection of the band’s most insular and labyrinthine material yet, with linear drum patterns and asymmetrical rhythms clashing against folk-inspired perpetual canon.

Human Worth have pressed up a limited edition run of “Bagagwaa Blue” vinyl,
in a beautiful sleeve featuring the art of Kelly Bishop, with 10% of all sales

Rescued from old cassette tapes, that recording finally comes out five decades later, displaying the rebel spirit of a group influenced by Mersey beat, surf and garage."Me gritan melenudo" contains 'Alma agobiada', their only original composition, plus raw covers of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Troggs, Lovin' Spoonful, Miriam Makeba and The Ventures. It also includes two more Beatles songs and a couple of covers from the Wild In The Street soundtrack recorded in 1970 by Los Yoguis, as the group was known at the end of their short-lived career. Plus many photos, a family tree and the detailed story of the band.More details?In 1968, The Silver Thunders enjoyed a good reputation within the Bogotá rock circuit. Whether it was for the crazy and insolent image they projected or for the flair they exuded on stage, the four young musicians were regulars on radio and television programs, at youth dances and legendary discos like La Fiebre, The Ship, La Caverna, La Jaula, La Bomba, Panauto and El Diábolo de Oro. All they needed was a record to consolidate their popularity.Today, none of the three living members of the band remembers where they got the money from to invest in the recording, but they got together three or four hours a week over several months in 1968 at the studio Suramericana de Grabaciones. The details of the sessions are hazy and nobody knows who sat behind the mixing desk. However, Jorge López (lead guitar) and Orlando Córdoba (bass guitar) both say that the studio was uncomfortable and precarious. This didn't undermine the group's upbeat spirit. Next up on Feral Child (and the penultimate full length of the year for the label), sees the fabulous collaboration between Justin Wright (Expo 70) and Grant Corum (Million Brazilians, Timelash, Psychic Sounds Ensemble) Blazing Worlds. The duo’s self-titled full length was recorded during a week long Midwest summer scorcher, and expands and contracts with six heavily hallucinatory movements that only hellishly humid nights could induce. One that seasoned sonic psychonauts Justin Wright and Grant Corum could venture to manifest a deep phantasmagoric excursion through brilliant atmospheres in a seamless collection. The material on Blazing Worlds harkens back to Wright’s synth-driven ’Sorcerer of Sound’ full of cosmic tones and other worldliness aura, in tandem with Corum’s bent woodwind work and extraterrestrial sounding samples. Where this is certainly a departure from some of their previous work, the two seem to find equal navigation through their evolving compositions morphing into a singular melting chthonic mass, giving the listener an open-ended impression of mesmerizingly vast sonic topographies all gleaming with moments of both glimpses of gorgeousness and the grotesque. “Blazing Worlds” provides a wonderful, seamless spin from initial blast to the last. There are lots of strange instrumental textures and propellant pulsations, all pretty much within the confines of modernist electronic invention, and the whole shimmers with a very unusual kind of lambency, while still sounding deceptively discernible. While it can often seem tricky to keep up with Wright and Corum’s many releases and style shifts, it is constantly rewarding and this is another fine addition to their oeuvre.

David Gedge says: "The songs we recorded for the August single in our series are almost what you might call old ones! A demo version of `Each Time You Open Your Eyes' was first recorded in 2018, but it wasn't until over three years later that we finally played it live. By then, we'd made it huge! We wanted to cover all parts of the audio spectrum, so Melanie tuned her bass from E all the way down to C to make Terry de Castro's original bass line sound extra-bassy, and I used an octave pedal, on the recommendation of Jon, to add additional layers to my own part with both higher and lower versions. There's also a note in the vocal part that I hold for sixteen seconds; it's like everything had to bigger on this track! `That Would Only Happen In A Movie' - which we first played on a live stream in March 2021 - sounds almost restrained, in comparison, with its acoustic guitar and virtually a capella middle eight. But then, sometimes, less is more! A semi-acoustic version of that song also appears on our `Locked Down And Stripped Back Volume Two' album."
