Before the single could be repressed, the plates were destroyed for a tax write-off, and it is said that Paul McCartney burned the master tapes himself. Black Duck captures a band already deeply in tune with one another. The three-piece super-group consists of Douglas McCombs, Charles Rumback, and Bill MacKay each has a distinct musical voice that is instantly recognizable, yet blends seamlessly with one another-their time performing together, playing to the moment and reading each other and the spaces they"re in formed a fluency between the trio which allows them to follow each other down winding paths and short tangents alike. McCombs is a founding member of Tortoise, Pullman, and Brokeback and the long-standing bassist for Eleventh Dream Day, an artist whose contribution to the music world can not be overstated. MacKay began releasing records in the early 2000s. He has released several acclaimed solo albums with Drag City as well as a duo album each with Nathan Bowles (Banjo, Black Twig Pickers), and Katinka Kleijn (Cello, Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO)), and two beloved records with Ryley Walker. Rumback burst onto the fertile Chicago improvised music scene in the early 2000"s. His fluid technique and expressive playing garnered him much attention. In addition to his solo releases, Rumback has recorded with Ryley Walker, jazz greats such as Jim Baker, James Singleton, and Greg Ward. Black Duck"s debut is a testament to that fluency, an expedition led by three veterans into alluring worlds bathed in myriad splendors. Black Duck is a gallery of sonic tapestries, unbound by any genre constraints. Black Duck redefines what two guitarists and a drummer can do, pieces move from breezy shuffles to stormy blues rumbles to gorgeous textural drones. Playing entirely improvised live sets for years helped develop the trio"s acute senses for one another, knowing precisely how to listen to the others and bolster whatever direction they move in. In the short time the trio have played together, they have performed at Big Ears Festival and alongside acts like Yo La Tengo.

"A Rock In The Weary Land" was The Waterboys" seventh studio album, originally released on 25 September 2000. The recording saw the return of the band name after Mike Scott"s two solo albums and featured contributions from two original Waterboys, Kevin Wilkinson and Anthony Thistlethwaite, and some brilliant new ones including keyboard players Thighpaulsandra and Sir Richard Naiff. NME described the album as "a masterpiece" and Mojo called it "brazen, unapologetic, vital".This release marks the first time the album has been reissued, and its first ever release on vinyl. Mike Scott has curated this definitive version, with the sequence on the LPs and CD Disc 1 based on the 14-song 2001 US edition, which added "Lucky Day / Bad Advice" and "My Lord, What A Morning" to the original UK version. The 2CD version features twelve previously unreleased tracks, chosen by Scott, and the 4th side of the 2LP vinyl version is taken up with a spectacular 16-minute live version of Waterboys" classic Savage Earth Heart.Scott has also overseen a re-working of the artwork, using a different Steve Gullick photo from the original album cover sessions on the front, while both vinyl and CD formats include many previously unseen shots. Dab City is an ode to the purest form of THC and our beloved hometown of Madison Wisconsin, which is known as Mad City. A political and social hot bed and lightning rod for our state and the Midwest since the 1960's, Madison is also home to a large University with one of the best agronomy departments in the country and not surprisingly the focal point for some of the finest cannabis our country has to offer(Muleboy has not seen pot with seeds in it since arriving in 1993!)Although not legal, possession is basically ignored and punished with a nominal $1 fine for under 128 grams. For the recording of dab City we procured 10 g plus of the finest concentrates we could lay our hands on and somewhere north of 120 g of cannabis flower. And recorded it on 2-in analog tape over two sessions at Future apple tree Studio in Rock Island Illinois. Fall 2022 session is known as the Harvest Sessions and the February of 2023 session is known as the Propagation Sessions. The record is our 2nd as a three piece and our second full length release for our label Heavy Psych Sounds and continues our journey into ultra stoned sludgey psychedelia. Dab City is 100% recorded on Tape, and is composed by 7 songs with a running time of almost 60 minutes of brand new Stoned Sludge Heavy Doomy Riffs.

Italia Synthetica 1981-1985 represents the musical mutation that occurred after the post-punk hangover gave way to more frigid emotional shores, in-line with the synth-wave moment that was sweeping Europe and the white cliffs of Albion. This scene flourished in Italy between 1981-1985, and the musicians that came out of it are still revered today (particularly in the US). Robotic rhythms and intuitions that, besides sharing common ground with the electronic movements that had come before, also knew how to fill up the dancefloor. Featuring four previously unreleased tracks by Der Blaue Reiter, along with tracks by Modo, Actor's Studio, and La Maison, as well as the still fresh sounding contributions by true pioneers of the genre Neon and Naif Orchestra. Also features Ein-st-ein, Scortilla, Eurotunes, Oh Oh Art, and 2+2=5 featuring Paolo Mauri. LP includes CD which includes five bonus tracks from the Italia New Wave LP (spittle 031lp). Wide Open Light Is a family of songs I've written. I've selected them with the care one might put into a personal photo album. Fans of the innovations and originality that sprang from the L.A. underground of the late 1970s and ’80s often ask, “What’s Paul B. Cutler been up to?” A vital participant in the Los Angeles music scene of that period as bandleader, songwriter, musician and producer, Cutler’s work—in particular his guitar playing—with The Consumers, 45 Grave, Vox Pop and The Dream Syndicate is still admired by fans and an influence on anyone interested in that period and the styles that developed from it. In 2014, “Ryan Adams contacted me and wanted to form a band. He loved 45 Grave, he wanted to do some goth / punk, whatever you want to call it. That’s right up my alley. He’s amazingly talented and inspiring to work with. We did that for a while, and I wrote a bunch of songs.” Enthused about his new material, Cutler continued recording songs with just his signature electric guitar style and vocals. As this was developing, another vet of the early L.A. scene—Brad Laner of Medicine and Savage Republic—got in touch with Cutler. Soon Laner was mixing, co-producing, playing keyboards as well as adding the rhythm section. The overall process took some time, with songwriting beginning in 2014. When reflecting on the music that comprises Les Fleurs, “To me, and it does not sound like it, but because of the philosophy I had while producing it, it’s punk. I come from the original punk, before it was a genre. Before it was a ‘sound.’ When I got to LA in 1977 there were about twenty, maybe thirty bands and they all sounded very different. The Screamers, The Deadbeats, so many different takes on what music could be. There was no chance for commercial success so we all just did what we wanted. I never stopped. So philosophically I consider this punk rock, made in its original spirit although nobody would recognize it as such. I am a punk to this day.” So that, dear reader, is the basic story. Divorcer formed in late 2016 in a booth at Duffin's Donuts in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and that's perfect, because just like a donut, Divorcer is a treat. And after two cassettes—Debt Jubilee (2019) and Nutty Grotto (2022)—the band has made a delicious donut of its own with Espionage, their vinyl debut. Arty and aurally reminiscent of the Raincoats, Rose Mercie, Young Marble Giants, Marine Girls, and Dolly Mixture, Espionage’s four playful tracks swell with unanticipated changes that leave the listener wondering if this is still the same song, or even the same band. But the ingredients are there, they're just mixed up a little differently each time. There's call-and-response singing, whisper singing, singing in rounds. All four band members sing, and the straightforward instrumentation all works to serve the lyrics. Frank, funny, sharp, and skewering, the lyrics are a highlight, and Divorcer knows how to emphasize them. Layering lush melodies over "crying on the outside, crying on the inside" wryly increases the melodrama of the third track, "Crying." The final track, "Leech," is the most rocking of the bunch. "He's a leech, and he's sucking me dry, dry dry," goes the refrain, leading the listener to this expertly honed barb of a line: "You're so quick to point a finger (he's a leech) / Let me get you a mirror (he's a leech) / If you look a little closer (oh he's a leech) / the monster will appear (he's a leech)." Divorcer has a lot to say, some of it serious. But while they're stuck here in this weird, messed-up world, they're going to have some fun—and take a bite out of it, too. L.A. Shit is the new LP from the punch-throwing, shit-kicking country outfit GracieHorse fronted by Fat Creeps founder Gracie Jackson, featuring contributions from King Tuff, Emmett Kelley (Cairo Gang, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Ty Segall Band), and Bobbie Lovesong. GracieHorse weaves stories into her songs. On L.A. Shit, her first album with Wharl Cat, she takes us into the past half a decade of her life. We see her as a traveling nurse, living in big blue expanse of Wyoming, dancing with a man in a crisp white Stetson, eating chicken wings in a hazmat suit, commenting on how strange a place like Los Angeles can be, how loaded it is with wannabe cowboys and fast food restaurants. It's a record of immaculate country music, the kind of stuff you'd put on blast in your truck as you drive down empty stretches of highway. It's also a vulnerable record, full of lyrics about the intensity of being alive, all Old with a sense ol humor and self-awareness. A founding member of the grunge sun rock dream pop duo Fat Creeps in the early aughts, Gracie also released an album of "Bummer Jams' under GracieHorse in 2015 with Ghost Ramp. L.A. Shit marks Gracie's return to music after a several year hiatus. While taking time off between 2015 and 202O she kept busy with session work and singing live background vocals for Alex lzenberg, Meernaa, Color Green, Jonny Kosmo, Banny Grove, and The Lentils.In addition to being Gracie's own major artistic statement, L.A. Shit is a community efort. To make it, she enlisted countless friends in the Los Angeles Area, many of whom are touring and session musicians who were stuck at home during the pandemic. "I'm grateful," she says of the experience, "I'm proud that I get to show off my friends on this record." Indeed, L.A Shit is that kind of big family affair. Funny, heartbreaking, brutal - it's aS country as country can be.
