REMASTERED BY STEVE ALBINI AND BOB WESTON AT CHICAGO MASTERING!Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Lungs, the first Big Black release was recorded by Steve on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on the EP himself - except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) on bass, and Santiago Durango (also Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In 1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the Bulldozer EP. By 1984, the band had done some touring and recorded the Racer X EP and the start of the Il Duce 7". After that, Jeff returned to Naked Raygun and was replaced by Dave Riley. In 1985, Big Black recorded their first full-length, Atomizer, as well as finishing the Il Duce 7". Atomizer was released in 1986 along with the release of the Hammer Party compilation CD. In 1987, the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7" were released. That same year, the band recorded and released the 7" of The Model/He's A Whore as well as their second full-length album, Songs About Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). First European vinyl 45 release on Munster Records, featuring the guitar of Deniz Tek. Inspired by artists such as Etta James and Julie London, Lizzie sang a sultry Jazz set around the traps in Sydney. Enthralling fans with her riveting stage presence and seductive voice, around late 2007, she teamed up with Deniz Tek to pursue a lifelong love of Soul music. Deniz's hard rocking background with Radio Birdman is well known. In recent years he has also worked with Scott Morgan, soul shouter from Detroit's Rationals. Together they performed numbers like Otis Redding's 'Respect' and Johnnie Taylor's 'Hijackin' Love' to crazed audiences across the USA. When Zak Sally left his position as bassist for the minimalist rock band LOW after 12 years, he was pretty certain he was done with music, choosing instead to concentrate on his cartooning (Recidivist, Sammy The Mouse), and his small-press venture, La Mano 21. The continual shifts in their albums is an earnest attempt to realize global harmonies, but if given only one side of a 7" which side of Mahjongg would come out to play? The Dub Narcotic Disco Plate series provides the answer and "Free Groove Rider" is their most refracted pop statement yet. Using a swirling vocoder and intermittent dance beats, this single flickers like a channel-surfer finding pop sensibilities in between the static. The B-side, a remix by Selector Dub Narcotic (Calvin Johnson), ups the playfulness by reducing the static in favor of an unkempt, bubbling mix of melodica and reemerging synths.

"Needle In The Camel's Eye" is the fourth single from The Wolfmen, following hot on the heels of last years limited edition release "Cecilie" and their first two singles on DG. This is a 4 track, split 7" featuring two tracks by Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs, who as I'm sure you know by now are the dynamic duo of Holly Golightly and Lawyer Dave. The STRATFORD SPARROWS are from Portland, Oregon. The Rev. Joe alighted there from San Francisco. After making it though the many trials of life in the City of Roses, he began hearing the sounds of harmony vocals, clean Telecasters, and reverb. He obtained a recording device and brought it back to the humble Stratford apartments. He met the fair Miss Bryna in Japanese class and asked her to put her sweet voice to good use. She said yes and the hit making commenced. Taking inspiration from classic country music, the mighty Willamette River, and the 100 year old building that houses them, the Stratford Sparrows made music all summer long. Rev. Joe called on his friend Holly and a record was born. Every time Rev. Joe turns a knob or pushes a fader, the sounds in his head are approached.

Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes you get up just to get down again. Sometimes you run just to feel the wind against your face, and sometimes you stand still to watch things crumble around you. Vancouver's Ladyhawk knows this. And they got up - way up - and entered a recording studio for a day-long session between tours in the first half of 2006. Perhaps they then soared too close to the sun, like moths drawn into the flame, only to fly again into the shadows, their wings singed. And then maybe, gathering their burned and broken instruments about them, they limped their way home, rearranging the pieces and sounds haphazardly, letting them all lay as they fell.The end result is the sound of four brothers breaking something down to create something new, reaching into the fire again. It is a shattering 6-song march called Fight For Anarchy, all unmuzzled and jawing out, nothing edited or expunged. And on it Ladyhawk show that, like Spoon, Dinosaur Jr. or Tom Waits, they have the ability to conjure growls, snarls, and storms of sound into musical lightning, never striking the same place twice.

They released three singles, "Bend & Flush", "Making Bacon" and "Telephone Masturbator" and an album "Pink Pork" in '77/'78 on their own Wood Records. THE PORK DUKES split up in 1979. The original single sold in excess of 20,000 copies in 1977. This reissue is limited to 1000 copies.

"We almost thought: it could turn out well". L'APPEL DU VIDE from Chemnitz/Germany worked two nerve-wracking years on their Debut-EP. Now their "Abwärtsspirale" (downward spiral) is set into motion. They describe their sound as "Dark Punk" , but that's just scratching the surface. The spectrum reaches from aggressive-gloomy Surf Punk ("Das bin ich nicht" / that's not me) to brittle, repetitive and noisy ("Aufmerksamkeit" / attention) and hymnical-melodic Post Punk ("Delirium"). "Das Programm" (the program), a bittersweet romance in times of total surveillance, is unusual calm and melancholic thanks to an 60ies-organ and background vocals from Mara. In their lyrics L'APPEL DU VIDE use sparse words and deal with denial, failure and alienation. "Delirium" could be a soundtrack to the global pandemic, but was written in 2019. The songs were recorded by Flatty. Refinement came from Max Herrmann/Gloven Studio Leipzig (Mix) and Mikey Young (Mastering).

BACK IN PRINT! NIRVANA members Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic wrote the music to "Sliver" with temporary drummer Dan Peters of Mudhoney during a practice session. Jonathan Poneman of Sub Pop had requested that Nirvana release another single. While the band selected the previously recorded "Dive" as the b-side, Cobain wanted to take advantage of a studio break by the group TAD in July 1990 to record the a-side. TAD frontman Tad Doyle disliked the idea, but producer Jack Endino talked him into it. During a one hour period, NIRVANA recorded the basic tracks for "Sliver" using TAD's equipment. Cobain completed writing the song's lyrics just before it was recorded. Facta returns home to his own Wisdom Teeth imprint with ‘So is the sun’ - a bold EP of artful club reductions that distill his unique and playful approach into some of his most assured and direct works to date. As ever with Facta’s output, there is a moreish push-pull between functionality and creativity on display here. Infectious hooks are sculpted out of warping, plasticine sounds, whilst melodic splashes of colour are painted in broad, bright brushstrokes. Bleeping FM synths fizz into shot before oozing out of frame again, dripping splashes of neon colour over the record’s skipping, nimble rhythms as they go. There are a few key reference points at play here - in particular the light-footed grooves of early 00’s minimal house and the space-age synths of artists like DBX and S-Max - but these influences are totally refracted and subverted to create something fresh, contemporary and of its own. Produced and honed across a year, the tracks took shape slowly alongside regular club play from the label crew and a clutch of trusted DJs who road tested the tunes at various demo stages. Leicester punk sextet Jools have just released their new single '97%', a provocative track spotlighting the ubiquity of sexual harassment in the lives of women. This comes alongside the band's announcement of signing to UK indie label Hassle Records (Brutus, The Used, Casey), and the release of this double A-side 7" single in June.A collective of musicians - Mitch Gordon and Kate Price on vocals, Chris Johnston and Callum Connachie on guitar, Joe Dodd on bass, and Chelsea Wrones on drums - spread between London and Leicester, Jools found each other as much by accident as design in the earliest days of 2023. Together, they serve as a creative confluence for inspirations that move from the punk and post-punk of The Smiths, Fontaines DC, Iggy Pop, Amyl & The Sniffers and PJ Harvey, through the shoegaze of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, and into territories marked metal, rap and pop.
