Maestro Maclaine Diemer, a mainstay of the franchise for the last decade, dreams big and soars, assembling a superteam of native Korean musicians, vocalists and scholars to create this album’s absolutely brilliant arrangements. This is peak orchestral majesty for not just Guild Wars, but game soundtracks of the last decade — one that the BAFTAs and other awards would be wise to pay attention to. It’s epic stuff peppered with decadent nuance, where closing your eyes takes you on a windblown ride through instrumental incantations rarely heard in productions outside of Korea. “The Cycle Ends” is one of so many especially transcendent and unexpected tracks, enraptured by instrumental grandeur and the woven tapestry of marvelous, traditional Korean operatic vocals. They say jazz is all about the notes you don’t play, but after the uber-talented Blueshift Big Band turned in the terrific masters for Joystick Jazz (Volume 1), we knew we needed to hear more.

For Volume 2, The Blueshift Big Band turned to classic video game tracks from titles near and dear to iam8bit’s pixelated heart — games like Castlevania, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Grim Fandango. They reimagined iconic themes as only the Blueshift Big Band can do, revivifying them through the power of brass, beats, and big band bravado.

And iam8bit pal Mark Borgions is back, too, to lend the release some of his Jim Flora-flavored visual design and artwork. You don’t have to be a jazz aficionado to appreciate the perfection available in this incredible package.

The game’s hero, Francis Vendetti, sets off to discover himself through the power of music, embarking on an intergalactic odyssey that transcends space and time.

How could we at iam8bit not work with our pals at publisher Annapurna Interactive and Beethoven & Dinosaur to create a vinyl testament worthy of The Artful Escape’s groovy glamor? It’s a match made in the ziggiest of stardusts.

What we’ve put together here is, if you don’t mind us saying, a doozy. It’s two discs packed with the best of the game’s psychedelic soundtrack, from Josh Abraham and Johnny Galvatron, featuring timeless classics and mind-blowing space jams, such as “The Banks of the River are Lined with Gold,” “Ode To Lightman” and “The City of Glimmer.”

Music and memory are inexorably intertwined. Familiar songs and melodies have the power to bring us back to distinct moments in time. Developer Glee-Cheese Studio’s A Musical Story, is, in part, an exploration of that almost mystical power. In it, protagonist Gabriel uses music as his spirit guide, embarking on an exodus through his own personal history, working to piece together the truth of his current reality.

This makes for an unforgettable, 70’s inspired audiovisual experience, featuring a narrative completely devoid of dialogue. A vision this bold practically demands its own vinyl release, and iam8bit was honored to oblige.

This is composers Charles Bardin and Valentin Ducloux’s inimitable soundtrack, presented across two discs and pressed on psychedelic purple and yellow vinyl. We’ve also included a bonus track from friend, Disasterpeace, made especially for this release (and which you won’t find anywhere else — how cool is that!?). The album art from Alexandre Ray, in keeping with Musical Story’s distinctive visual panache, is quite simply a feast for the eyes.

The whole thing comes together to create an unforgettable package. Put it on, dim the lights, close your eyes, and embark on a journey.

Equal parts whimsical and contemplative, the music of developer Silver Lining Studio’s Behind the Frame paints a complete portrait of a young artist’s life, rife with its fair share of both happy greetings and melancholy goodbyes.

iam8bit is proud to present that sentimental soundtrack here, on pink and yellow two-toned vinyl, in collaboration with publisher Akupara Games. Special care has been given to the record’s presentation, featuring album art from the developers themselves and a disc design reminiscent of a nostalgic sunset over a golden field of wheat. This album is truly a true testament to Behind the Frame’s thoughtful, art-forward design.

Genesis Noir is a real gem — a fantastical riff that not only spans time and space, but also dabbles in fun little diddies like an celestial existential crisis and the notion of obliterating creation itself. It does so with tremendous style, drenched in monochromatic beauty and amazing animation, oozing with the essence of a smoky jazz club from another dimension. Did we just describe the game… or the album, because all those things are effectively captured in the soundtrack, too. Composer Skillbard does a phenomenal job of taking us on this massive mind trip, full of lively sax, energetic vocals, periodically somber notes and savvy future melodies. It’s absolutely fantastic and totally unique.

With those lyrics and an inescapably funky beat to back ‘em up, Young Horses’ colorful bug-catching adventure burst into the public consciousness in June 2020, at the PlayStation 5 reveal event. It’s a testament to Bugsnax’s unique aesthetic and charm that it stood out so strongly in that stacked next-gen line-up. And hey, Kero Kero Bonito’s unforgettable ear-worm of a title track helped a fair bit, too.

It’s the very best of Seth Parker’s friendly, fun, & synth-tastic soundtrack, pressed on beautiful high-quality vinyl. The album art comes courtesy of illustrator Nicole Gustafsson, whose otherworldly-yet-pastoral (and delicious) style was all-too at home on mysterious Snaktooth Island. If you close your eyes and listen to these tunes, perhaps you can even conjure a Bunger, Weenyworm or Fryder into your living room.

It doesn’t take a Grumpus to see that this release is something special — and yeah, that catchy Kero Kero Bonito title song is included here, too!

As if its title wasn’t evidence enough, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an experience that has a very spunky point of view. While it takes a cue from the wholesome games playbook, it’s smarm and charm are wholly unique, standing out as one of the most irreverent indies in recent years. This is owed largely to its scene-stealing soundtrack, which is eccentric and absolutely joyous, featuring 21 wide-ranging tracks composed by James Currier & Ryan Borbone (collectively known as “fblk.”), and some surprise vocals by Currier & Yukie Dong. It’s a musical journey of emotional highs and lows, illustrated beautifully for vinyl by the always-great, Nicole Gustafsson — an all too perfect package of ambiance by which to take down a corrupt vegetable government.

Developer Dontnod has become synonymous with both evocative and progressive narrative design, pushing game story into a brave new space with Tell Me Why. Music plays a critical role in that emotional expression, with the score by Ryan Lott deepening the entire experience in a way that is both beautifully bold and subtly nuanced. It’s an incredibly intricate composition, weaving a complex and acoustically thoughtful story. It’s such a uniquely personal soundtrack that the album art had to be something incredibly intimate too. Artist Theo Randall’s approach is nothing short of perfection, employing hand-quilted, linotype-stamped and painstaking applique techniques for a truly original take on the idea of album art. To accentuate these handmade tactile qualities, the jacket is embossed and debossed, so when you run your hand across it, your senses are activated, bringing you closer to the musical journey of the telepathic twins, Tyler and Alyson.

Way back in 2001, we witnessed monkey mayhem unfurl, by way of a topsy-turvy gameplay mechanic that probably sounded pretty wacky on paper. Super Monkey Ball was totally bizarre and absolutely delightful then — and now, here we are 20 years later, writing about it in a product description. However, for as much love as the characters and the world receive, the unsung gem of this series is its music, which has never been better than in this incarnation, supremely titled, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania. It’s an evolution of the catchy tunes from the OG version, presented here as dancy, trancy, lovely and chill tracks that are incredibly enjoyable to absorb on a lazy Saturday afternoon. In all honesty we wouldn’t be surprised if a few of these ditties snuck into an Electric Daisy Carnival set — they’re that delectably bouncy. iam8bit couldn’t be happier to present this collection, in collaboration with Sega Music, presented with a nod to Andy Warhol’s legendary Velvet Underground album design and done up here with cheeky luster by fellow superstars, Little Friends of Printmaking. And yes, the banana is a static cling that actually peels off the album! So cool!

There's something so raw, lively, and evocative about the Mutazione soundtrack. During some spurts, it evokes the punk rock-fueled chaos and spilled beer aroma of hearing Joan Jett obliterate your ears at a small club during her early days. Then, just like that, you are enveloped by the luscious lullaby-like essence of Portishead on the next track. Then, another evolution on this musical journey: the rock n' roll of Radiohead, as if sipped from a Twin Peaks pint glass. The impressive magic of composer Alessandro Coronas is how he balances it all, encapsulating the emotion of profound rebellion, all the while, staying married to melancholy. Let’s be real: Spinch (not “spinach” like autocorrect demands) is a really freakin’ weird game. It’s a bountiful bazaar of colorfulness and alien aesthetics as if a Kool-Aid fever dream collided with unicorn nightmares. Wacky worlds, however, are only good as their wacky soundtracks, and herein rests one of the most fabulously fun soundtracks iam8bit has ever released on wax. Composer Thesis Sahib is a mad genius of creatively conjuring sounds from just about anything, and with Spinch he looks to children’s toys, retro and modern, for that extra special audiosauce. (Yes, he recorded toys and it sounds awesome!) We’re so very proud to present this gem on tricolor vinyl, in an obscenely vibrant die-cut jacket design by Spinch creator, Jesse Jacobs.

Since the dawn of the trombone (Early 15th century or so according to a quick Google search), trombonists all over the world have been compelled to create a wide assortment of brass-powered notes, both sweet and sour.

Developer Holy Wow made it their divine mission to document this phenomenon through the medium of interactive electronic entertainment. Trombone Champ is a celebration of the beauty and power of music — not just well-crafted, technically proficient music, but passionate, messy, and goofy melodies, too. Music is about self expression, and self expression simply isn’t always tidy and neat.

This LP is iam8bit’s humble attempt to capture that wonderfully weird energy on wax. The Trombone Champ Vinyl Soundtrack is a 1xLP packed full of sweet, sweet brass-powered tunes, selected and performed (excellently, by the way — no flubbed notes here) by the Holy Wow team themselves.
