There are few people across the globe, who will have not been touched by the work of Frankie Knuckles. Forever regarded as ‘The Godfather of House’ for his unrivalled contribution to the house music we know today; what started as an underground movement in Chicago has grown to international heights thanks to Frankie. His records earned him recognition on a global scale, allowing him to work with some of the globes biggest names including the likes of Diana Ross, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. Five years ago, Frankie passed away in Chicago on 31st March 2014 leaving behind one of the greatest house music legacies spanning almost four decades. Now he is commemorated by long time writing and production partner Eric Kupper. Eric, himself a seasoned DJ producer and writer, has worked on over 116 Billboard #1 Dance Records and played a pivotal role in a many of Frankie’s productions. Having both worked together for many years they established themselves at ‘Director’s Cut’ from 2011 and set about producing original releases and remixes based on the classic ‘Def Mix’ sound while sharing equal credits for their creations. Together they re-produced and re-purpose classic cuts for modern dancefloors, with reworks including tracks from Marshall Jefferson, Ashford & Simpson, Artful & Ridney and The Sunburst Band, alongside Frankie Knuckles originals. These releases have now been brought together by Eric to feature on special album called ‘The Directors Cut Collection’ on SoSure Music. It includes the Director’s Cut reworks of Frankie’s classic cuts such as ‘Your Love’ and ‘Take You There’ with Jamie Principle, alongside Frankie’s first #1 single - ‘The Whistle Song’ on which Eric shares writing credits. Within a multitude of classic reworks, highlights include a previously unreleased version of Ashford & Simpson’s ‘Bourgie Bourgie’ and a huge Director’s Cut Retro Signature mix of Marshall Jefferson’s 'The House Music Anthem (Move Your Body)' featuring Curtis McClain. The Director’s Cut Collection is a fitting tribute to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Frankie’s passing whilst giving Eric a platform to tell his side of the creative story. This album is to be released in collaboration with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation who work to continuing Frankie’s legacy well into the future.

originally it’s released on only cd in 2007. it was his 2nd album but it’s substantially his first album because the first album was a col-lection of kuniyuki’s early productions.

the first track “the guitar song” is one of our most favorite song of kuniyuki,it’s like a real good mixture of jazz, fusion, world music and electronic music.

the second track featuring african vocalist and percussionist “omar guaindefall”,we still love amazing henrik schwarz remix.

the third track “you get me” featuring our favorite singer “josee hurlock”,we’ve knew about her from the fantastic album “residue” by hefner in 2000. she is featured to the fourth track “all these things” too. we’re hoping to repress an amazing joe claussell remix.

the fifth track “flying music” featuring our good friend “alex from tokyo” as poetry reading and shuichiro sakaguchi( a popular trumpeter in tokyo) as a trumpeter. this long version was put to single cut release on 12inch.

the sixth track “the session” is a collaboration of song with henrik schwarz. they have met at mule musiq’s party in tokyo and clicked immediately.

the seventh track “touch” sounds very nostalgic african jazz or spanish fusion which is popular these days as balearic music.

the last track “rain of ocean” is a primitive african minimal deep house.this song is put to the single cut from this album(not put to the album) and we almost forgot this song but when we’re compiling the vinyl edition of album, we noticed how this song is beautiful.

For the fourth release on DJ Koze and Marcus Fink's Pampa imprint, hyperactive hotshot house hunk Axel Boman steps up and delivers a stunning debut EP for the label. Since many years an important force on the small but friendly Swedish club scene, and one third of the Studio Barnhus crew together with Kornél Kovács and Petter, Axel is as experienced a producer as his ideas are fresh. This tattooed Swede often talks about creating "worlds" rather than "tracks", and on his "Holy Love" EP we are transported to three very different places indeed. The title track, a collaboration with vocalist J Jonason, invites you to take part in a lazy afternoon cocktail party onboard an old sailing boat in Gothenburg's archipelago. Ten City are mixing up the White Russians and Giorgio Moroder's estranged Swedish grandson is peeling the shrimp. You fall asleep on the patio and wake up in a sweaty basement later that night. Through the shabby speakers of one of those small but friendly Stockholm night clubs, you hear "Purple Drank", a sleazy, sexy number that draws influences from Houston style screw music, classic deep house and hypnotic techno. The irresistible vocal hook - "I woke up with your name on my lips" has already echoed across dance floors from Tokyo to Amsterdam. Bouncy yet unsettling, this track is probably the most obvious DJ's favorite on the EP. Morning comes yet again, and for the after party we head to Axel's private rooftop terrace in sunny Gröndal. The laptop speakers are banging out the most loved up piano loop you ever heard. "Not So Much" is as simple and naïve as Axel Boman's haircut, a perfect ending to a perfect night and a perfect little record from this imperfect genius of a dance music producer.

Under the alias Ciel, Xi'an-born/Toronto-based producer, pianist, DJ, and Discwoman affiliate Cindy Li embodies the social conscience of progressive electronic music. She is at once a local and global artist, having flourished at the fringe of cutting-edge club culture since 2015, firmly rooted in her adopted city while reaching increasingly outward, her sets echoing from Berlin's Berghain to Chicago's Smartbar to Lisbon's Lux Fragil. Back in Toronto, she co-runs the label Parallel Minds and event initiative Work In Progress, an extension of her radio show in both name and M.O. to improve female representation in the scene. She's helped write safe space policies, hosted DJ workshops, and applied activist pressure on promoters through varying methods with a single-minded resolve. Those efforts have evoked responses, which Li has spent time reckoning with over the past two years. Now, manifesting as a self-guided reaction to her experiences as an artist and activist is Ciel's Spectral Sound debut, Why Me?, a deeply personal and physical work.Ciel's stylistic pocket as a producer remains that of "soft-touch slammers," but fans will note the material on Why Me? hits harder. "I wanted to write something that was heavy," she says of the title track, the result of processing the noise leveled at her specifically after she amassed a database of female and nonbinary talents to highlight the lack of bookings amongst a subset of clubs in the community. "I was dealing with a lot... anger, despair, paranoia, feeling unjustly targeted." She channeled these antiphons into her art. The cut's namesake is sourced from the foregrounded sample, a snippet of dialogue from an old film about a man who believes he's been abducted by aliens. Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of UK dance music for over 3 decades. This is the roots of their story told through music. The 2 London DJ's are part of the DNA of the global Jungle / D&B movement and they have remained relevant, cutting edge, authoritative and essential to this truly underground art-form since it's inception. RAGE could arguably be the ground zero of Jungle. The party was started at London's cavernous Heaven club by Fabio & Grooverider in 1988, at the height of Acid House fever that was making it's way up and down the motorways, slip-roads, fields and warehouses of the M25 and further beyond every weekend, troubling the nation, the police, your parents and the press as it went. RAGE was a different beast, it certainly channelled some of that Acid energy but pitted it against the new and exciting sounds emanating from Belgium, Amsterdam, Detroit, Sheffield, Essex and Hackney and in turn created a new style, a new sonic attitude and energy in the process. Rumbling bass-lines, narcotic synth rushes and roughly chopped and sped-up breakbeats all merged into a style that we now know as Jungle. Nothing like this had been heard before, this was a brand new style and it was coming out of London's West End and Fabio & Grooverider were the people firmly behind it.

Cocada, a project which emerged as a diffuser of the musical talent present throughout Latin America, quickly spread its sounds to the four corners of the world, becoming a great initiative for electronic music. We couldn’t be happier by this time, Cocada’s first release as a record label is born with some respected artists and a beautiful story behind. The wonderful artwork was illustrated by the Brazilian artist Paula Dornelles, who dedicates herself to the production of experimental artworks, she was able to convey through all her creative potential the depth of the meaning present in the word “freedom", a small sample of Latin American talent also in the visual arts. On the album, who begins the work is the Brazilian duo, Diogo Vaille and Marcelo Abreu aka Bruce Leroys, with “Liberdade” (Original Vocal Version), a rework of a classic MPB song. The artists managed to perfectly merge the melancholy voice present in the song with a deep and dense bass line, bringing all the emotion present in the lyrics, causing goosebumps. However, the duo isn’t alone in this release. None other than Ricardo Villalobos has also left his trademark with a great remix, featuring fuller grooves and inserting multiple textures for the track.

Kicking off a brand-new WOLF offshoot label, celebrating the soulful sound of house music from the late 90’s & early 00’s, two DJ Romain classics get the remastered treatment straight from the DATs!
‘It’s The Spirit’ became an instant classic when released in 2004 - it’s eyes closed business with a weighty bassline, buzzed stabs, spiritual organs and Darryl D'Bonneau’s impassioned vocals. A track that still holds up today, regularly played by the likes of Floating Points, Ben UFO, Kerri Chandler and others in the know, fetching up to £40 on the cogs.
While digging through the racks in A1 Records in New York a few years ago, the WOLF duo came across 'Piano Man' nestled on the B side of a Romain release from 1998. A peaktime burner, that never fails to ignite the dancefloor and one that always gets named checked whenever they let it loose.
After contacting DJ Romain, who to their surprise knew of WOLF and was keen to work together, they set about giving these jams a new lease of life, digging back in the archives to recover the DATs from the original projects.
This one’s not for the gurning fly catchers, it’s specifically for those that like to get down.
