Tessellate is a South London party that has been running for the last four years predominantly at Corsica Studios in Elephant and Castle. The label is a natural progression of their events, featuring artists and friends they have booked and met over the years. Brassica (Feel My Bicep) and Tel Aviv’s Moscoman both deliver with two different takes of La Selva on the B-side.

The second release from Seattle-based collective secondnature comes from Simic with the "Discussion of Interests" EP. Three tracks of psychedelic and effective electronic music that falls somewhere between house and techno, along with a remix from Slow Life lead producer S. Moreira. Discussion of Interests is another marker in the development of secondnature’s musical realm, expanding it from the dark and cerebral techno of Fugal’s “Oil Panes” EP to one that includes more groove-laden tracks with expressive melodic content.

Much could be said about German house royalty Boris Dlugosch. From his teen DJ years under the wings of Front’s legendary Klaus Stockhausen in Hamburg to his own marvelous tenure there that is pretty much synonymous with the explosion of Acid House in its proto- and post-incarnations. One could examine his role as a herald of US garage and Jersey house or as a remixer of underground gone pop records. But we will leave that and other stories for the Front page soon. Our man Neil aka Lord of the Isles drops another face-melter for his recently birthed label Dfsant. Don't ask us what that means by the way, we have no idea. Here on the second 12". the laird treats to a further three tracks of sublime techno / house hybrids: the opener "Synth Plus" is a kosmiche throbber with a lick of motor city melodrama, whilst "To Here" comes on like a decidedly less shit-scary Black Merlin, and to close things out we have a slo-mo acid disco cut in the form of "Heyta Hota". Real nice stuff folks.

Panorama Bar resident Nick Höppner gets to Work on his second solo album on Ostgut Ton, connecting the territories of House music with the ease of Alt-Pop. Work as in labor. An axiom that fuels the capitalist system just as the Techno/House scene economy says that one needs to keep oneself busy to make a living. As a musician, things are complicated of course. It’s a long way from the romantic idea of creating music simply for the sake of art to becoming a full time musician. Those who have accomplished this feat often find themselves in a professional loop of writing the music, producing it, promoting it (with an info text like this), releasing it and then hopefully selling it. After leaving his full time job as Ostgut Ton’s label manager in 2012, Nick Ho?ppner went fully freelance, focusing on his musically diverse, deep and dynamic DJing in and outside Berghain’s Panorama Bar, but more importantly spending more time in the studio. The result was his critically acclaimed debut album Folk (Ostgut Ton, 2015), various 12“ releases and remixes, and now his sophomore LP, Work, which, more than ever, lays out his refined production skills and his talent to work the machines until they reveal their inner ghosts: nine new songs that now dodge the dance floor, then fully embrace it.

This spring, Safe Trip will release Welcome To Paradiso, an expansive retrospective of the Italian dream house sound co-compiled by label founder Young Marco.

At the tail end of the 1980s, a new take on deep house began to emerge from Italian studios. 'Dream house' drew inspiration from key U.S deep house records of the period – the spacey melodiousness of Larry Heard's productions, and the rich jazziness of tracks originating in New Jersey in particular – but sounded distinctly different. Its' 'head-in-the-clouds' feel – all rich chords, tactile basslines, fluid piano lines and starry electronics – made 'dream house' a uniquely Italian proposition.

First and foremost, the style echoed the wavy, glassy-eyed positivity of the period more than any other. While music in the UK and the low countries was getting faster and heavier, Italy's 'dream house' producers continued to create music shot through with warmth and colourful musicality until 1993. While few 'dream house' records were made after then, its' sounds and loose aesthetic influenced subsequent styles such as trance and progressive house.

During its' peak, dream house – or, as it was tagged by leading Italian label DFC, 'ambient house' (echoing the similarly minded work of UK pioneers such as The Orb and The KLF) – could be heard blaring from club sound systems across Europe. The style's popularity was fuelled, in part at least, by the runaway international success of "Sueno Latino".

Welcome To Paradiso gathers together some of the finest examples of the style for the first time since the turn of the 90s. It includes a smattering of scene anthems – Key Tronics Ensemble's peerless "Calypso of House", Morenas's "Sonnambulism", the ambient mix of Last Rhythm's Italo-house classic "Last Rhythm" – alongside a swathe of hard-to-find, in-demand and forgotten gems.

There are cuts from key players in the movement – the likes of Don Pablos Animals, Sasha (later to find fame with a strong of bouncy, piano-heavy Italo-house cuts), and Dreamatic – plus a string of lesser-known names whose contribution to the evolution of the sound should not be overlooked. Young Marco has also found space for Leo Anibaldi's "Elements", a rare deep house outing from a producer who later helped define the sound of Roman techno.

Over the course of two double-vinyl compilations (and one extended digital download package), Welcome To Paradiso celebrates one of the most evocative and imaginative musical styles of electronic music's golden era. Kick off your shoes, turn your gaze skywards, and immerse yourself in the music.

The album “Bicep” is the perfect summation of the duo’s career to date - it’s a sonic tour of their history touching the cornerstones of underground club culture. Matt and Andy have pulled off the rarest of feats, to make a singularly unique electronic record founded on the blueprint of classic house, techno, electro and Italo disco, but flipped and morphed into a fresh design bearing the unique Bicep sonic signature. It’s a perfectly succinct album: loose, raw and energetic enough for the dancefloor, yet refined, artfully composed and contemplative enough for home listening.

Their spirited, daring approach brings them into the Ninja Tune fold. “For us it’s important to be part of a label that looks broadly at music,” Matt says. “We felt no restrictions at Ninja to be pigeonholed,” continues Andy. Displaying a theme of technical experimentalism and a deft melodic touch which runs throughout the entire record, it’s this openness and no-rules approach to music making which has allowed Bicep to establish a unique position all their own on an increasingly crowded global dance stage.

Yes, it's hard to believe something so beautiful could come from such a wretched species as homo sapiens. Robag´s festive anthem "Thora Vukk", here in a special 12" edit, raises highest expectations on the upcoming longplayer, which guarantees the most exceptional & beautiful material that the world has seen in a long time. On "Thora Vukk" THX-sounds meet frenzy-melancholy, tardiness on focused half metallic reverberations and half fairy-tale make-out sessions. DJ Boring embarks on the sixth expedition into the exotic lands of palm trees and blue skies with his dreamy ‘Different Dates’ EP. Expedition six features three jams packed full of moody synth lines and broken beat drum sequences, accompanied by a mind-blowing remix from Baltra.

With Lukas Lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. Out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as "This Is Why" EP. The A-Side kicks off with the discoish banger "Q&H" and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by Lorenz Rhode - not only famous for his releases on Compost Records or Exploited but also for taking Detroit-Swindle-Liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. The deeper side of Lukas' sound is represented on the B-Side. Starting with edgy piano chords, "Solid/Fragile (Coexistence)" introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. With its distinctive strings, "Nothing But A Heartache" makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

Myers returns, fresh off the back of a debut show at Field Day and with a two track 12" nodding to the past and the future.

'Taps' is a relentless drum machine driven, synth directed monster, that comes at you like it's about to punch you in the face, but actually picks you up and chucks you on its shoulders. 'Rabona' is a restrained, smooth but rugged roller, with subtle shifts that previews another layer to the Myers palette. Having taken steps out into the real world, expect a lot more to come over the next year.

Baaz from Berlin gives us further insight into his diverse musical interests with his ‘Two (For You)’ EP on Office. As the title suggests the talented producer splits his musical activity into two genres on this record: One is deep and moody Techno with a knack for strong sub bass and soft pads. And the other one is striking Ambient with a wonderful appreciation of moving melodies and mellow chords combined with touching vocal parts. What is remarkable how well these four carefully building tracks go together and how effortless they further underline Baaz’ artistic vision of reduced and understated electronic music which unfolds slowly but emphatically. A respectable new record which is well worth opening yourself to.

One of the core members of the Apollonia family is the mastermind behind the label’s latest release. Shonky steps up with his first solo EP since ‘Plombiére’ which dropped in July 2016. Full of funky flavours and that distinct ‘Shonky style’, the new EP consists of four brand new tracks produced exclusively for Apollonia. Each track emanates its own unique vibe, while reppin’ Shonk’s irresistible groove. On side A we have ‘Tyrolien’, a jaunty number with bright tones and a tight, rolling groove. Shonky injects it with a series of unusual FX and what sounds like an wizened old creature, speaking about ‘the foulest stench in the air’. It’s a superb combination and sets the EP off to a great start.Next up is ‘Beat Street’ which has a heavier set of beats, which stomp down as a marauding b-line gets to work. Tiny fizzes and cheeps in the background add depth, sounding like robotic birds at play in the wild. The track is minimal in its make up, but deep and engrossing, classic Shonky material.Flip the vinyl over and we have ‘Torro Rosso’, a bold, stomping workout with fresh percussion and a jovial analogue riff. As the bubbly low end percolates way down below, the beats pump the track along and an extra layer of analogue funk enters the fray midway through. The final track is titled ‘Serpent à Sonnette’ and swithes the vibe. It’s loose, meandering and twisted, with a hypnotic bassline and super sharp percussion. This one is going to get the dance floor locked into a groove, as it progresses a sweet, chirpy melody brightens the mood. Feel the glow!Once again Shonky demonstrates his ability to produce groovy dance floor cuts that have their own unique fingerprint; danceable, unusual and utterly captivating.

Viva Music boss Steve Lawler serves up a brace of Balearic-tinged groovers as he preps for another firecracker season in Ibiza and brings his years of experience and production prowess to Phil Weeks’ Robsoul Recordings imprint for the very first time.Adding a dash of breezy, feel good aesthetics - mixed with shuffling, shining rhythms - opening track Feelin has a light and steady pace, retaining a focus on groove and space, with vocal chops dusted across the track while melodic atmospheres underpin and a deep, soulful and powerful soul vocal sample cements the hands in the air vibe.Equally sun kissed is Take Me There, bringing a percussive rhythm, laced with bongo hits and skins, while more vocal chops and layered percussion find themselves dancing in perfect matrimony. Another day, and another dancefloor weapon from Birmingham's finest.

London's Chocky joins the Dessous Recordings label and shares four tracks of sublime house music on Steve Bug's imprint. 'Self Knowledge' is a deep, techy roller clocking it at nearly 10 mins - plenty of space to expand into its full potential - the groove grows ever more hypnotic and engaging as the track unfolds. Next up is 'A Reefa' - a non too subtle reference to a certain herb that might have inspired this loose yet highly funky deep house jam. 'Casa De Estrela' changes the vibe up with a more direct and jacking track - even though it would work at prime time, Chocky's feel for space and drama make sure the track will be heard in many diverse surrounding and sets this year.

Fly Free is the newest EP by Jon Dixon on his Hi-Tech Jazz label, 4EVR 4WRD (Forever Forward). He collaborated with 2 good friends and Detroit legends, John "Jammin" Collins and Al Ester to create two unique edits that best suit their personal DJ style. He is no stranger to both jazz heads and techno innovators. He's played with UR's Timeline with Mad Mike, Carl Craig to jazz great Marcus Belgrave. "I wanted to make something that could be the theme song for a Detroit summer regardless of where you're going or coming from," Jon said. "I wanted to create a song that was perfect for cruising down Jefferson heading to Belle Isle, or being stuck in downtown traffic after a game." Jon Dixon took something so familiar to the people of Detroit and transformed it into a piece the world can dance to.
