Limited repress on blue vinyl, 1000 copies worldwide! A bootleg experiment that got out of hand, Oden & Fatzo’s Radio 1 A-listed single is the accidental hit that everyone is talking about. So how do you go about making an ‘accidental hit’, by accident of course... The track came about when French DJ Fatzo tried to demonstrate the difference between an edit and a remix to his dad, “... I took a song from the band Men I Trust, sped it up and added a drum beat and violin. After playing it to Oden, they loved it, and in turn, added their secret ingredients.” Unlike the name might suggest, Oden & Fatzo consists of three people: The Parisian underground collective are a powerful fusion of the electronic live duo Oden, and house DJ Fatzo. Back in 2020 a bootleg version of ‘Lauren’ was uploaded to the YouTube channel of the electronic label Novaj, kicking off an unforeseeable wave of enthusiasm. That video is now approaching 3 million views. Enthralled listeners begged for a commercial release, a year later Ministry of Sound/B1 cleared the sample and the track started its march across the airwaves and up the charts. With its captivating beat and nostalgic catchiness, ‘Lauren’ makes up for the party nights lost to the pandemic lockdowns, and sees people dancing in their homes and on the streets, as concerts, parties, and live sets are finally making a return. As the trio put it: “This song was all about hope, freedom and a party atmosphere at a time when you couldn't go anywhere. We think it gave everyone who heard it a little bit of an escape, including us.” Meanwhile in the UK, the track has seen early support, not only by names like Franky Wah, Danny Howard, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Jax Jones, Jodie Harsh, Hugel, Bakermat, Cut Snake, Salomé Le Chat, Piem, David Gausa and many more, but also by the incredibly ecstatic party crowds.

8 years after DJ Sotofett’s last visit to our label(FPST1) we received some tracks perfectly timed AND perfectly primed for that elusive number 75 release. This time teaming up with Rex Ronny, we’re stoked to have him back and even more stoked about the music engraved in these grooves. DJ Sotofett and Rex Ronny embodies a solid 7 track EP for Full Pupp with a strong Sci-Fi pallet of Cosmic-Italo racers. “Epidermis” is not another conjectural Nu-Disco record but a strong Disco-Dub infused travel in rhythm and melody. The entirety of the EP is bound together by four Galactic synth tracks and three driving Disco cuts, all with an individual approach. It’s a solid nod to the excellence producers of Italian Disco and UK left-of-center dance music has taught us since the late 70’s. Rex Ronny (aka Ronny Nyheim from PsyPal fame) was challenged by DJ Sotofett to play all synth parts live in the studio, for Sotofett to mix the material in his new studio set up for ultimate Cosmic, Dance & Dub sonics. To perfect the rhythm suction, congas by Stiletti-Ana (from Jesse) was added in the mix, and LNS contributed with a harmony-bridge for maximum pathos.

Live At Robert Johnson welcomes Amsterdam-based DJ and Producer Alain van der Born aka Perdu to the Club, who already made his marks with Releases on Dgtl Records, Heist, and Let’s Play House amongst others. His contribution is a Four Track EP called Soaring Flights, including a Digital only Bonus Track. On this EP, Perdu champions a full-on 1980s sound, which hits more than one Chord in Live At Robert Johnson’s very own set of Styles. Dystopia (co-produced by Tjade) is a High Energy Track, in which a raw and stoic Bass Riff slowly working its way into a Break. It’s the first Break in which the Atmosphere heats up significantly and subsequently sustains for the remainder of this quite enjoyable, and not quite dystopian rush on the Dance Floor. Retrograde immediately kicks off with a South American infused Rhythm Loop, joined by a deep and analogue Bass Serpentine, with bubbly Acid sprinkled along the way. Rise Of F5 brings back those 1980s signature pumping Kick and gated reverb Snare Drums, employing melodic and slightly haunting elements, which eventually dissolve in Euphoria and a Melody to hum along with (or shout, if you prefer). Somehow It’s Different Now concludes in a slightly different and quite mellow vein, that lets you leave this EP on the easy side. Available Digital Only is the Bells Mix Version of Perdu and Tjade’s Dystopia, for those inclined to a more melodramatic Dystopia with added playfulness thanks to, you guessed it, Bells (no whistles, we promise).

Whilst most will know Dave Maclean as the drummer, producer and de-facto leader from the Mercury-nominated, UK four-piece Django Django, Maclean is first and foremost a DJ and record collector. Maclean’s eclectic tastes have long been looking for a suitable outlet and today sees a long-awaited dream finally come to fruition, as Maclean announces the launch of his record label Kick + Clap. Kick + Clap’s debut release comes courtesy of fellow Scot producer Neil Landstrumm, with an EP entitled “Knights of Shame". Well known for his early Peacefrog Records’ classics such as “Brown by August", Landstrumm has been navigating unchartered musical territories since the 1990’s. Circling mostly around experimental techno, Landstrumm is also know for exploring grime and dubstep, long before it was the done thing and has released nine albums across legendary labels such as Peacefrog, Tresor, Mosquito, Planet Mu, Sonic Groove and his own imprint, Scandinavia.

On the A side, '0141' is percussion-based track utilizing a variety of overdriven metallic percussion and petite vocal snips that roll up neatly into a seductive rhythm. This is one for the hips and hands, with instrumentation chopped into short staccato spikes, Jasper invites impulsive body theatrics and the freedom to spastically express oneself. On the flip, 'E-Maniac' is a bona-fide tops-off Summer anthem if we ever heard one. The third and final entry in a three-part release series based on his studio, Ian Pooley’s ‘Studio A Pt. 3’ for Radio Slave’s imprint sees him drop yet another set of bumping, hardware-focussed tracks.

Leading the A-side, ‘pss480’ combines swinging drums, modulated low end, and trippy bleeps for a party-starting house track. ‘sp12 Electric Mistress’ brings flanged-out drums and lush pads together for a wonky yet driving cut. Established in 2018, Let Me Understand Records is the imprint run by Santos, an Italian producer & DJ based in Frosinone that requires very little introduction, especially considering his excellent career in the business since 1995. Lmurwax is the logical stepping stone for Let Me Understand, catapulting the label to the vinyl market with both style and substance.

Highly desired on wax amongst minimal house DJs, 'Suburban Cult' is finally pressed on wax and presented in a glorious package that couples the original Santos club weapon with Ricardo Villalobos and Tripmastaz on the remix duties as tRicMast. Both ‘Twelve’ and the title track ‘Dance Refuge’ fill the A-side of this record with a positively warm tone where the groove is king. Razor-sharp drum programming shines through compositions with hints of acid, profoundly accurate sub-basses, and just the right amount of atmosphere, creating a musical spectrum very prone to those floating, early-morning dancefloors. The flipside’s ‘Space’ follows the same groove-led narrative introduced previously and infuses it with an extra dose of playfulness and feel-good sound design before toning it down to the introspective ‘Lver,’ finishing this EP with just the right amount of breaks and warmth.

We start with Dedicated, where dual basslines and live congas make way for pads and piano stabs that keep dancers dedicated to movement. Like discovering a Northern Soul gem decades after it was made… but even sweeter. Club Chi’ll have found a holy grail of house right here. Chicago house legends Marshall Jefferson and Jungle Wonz having unearthed, unreleased tracks played by Ron Hardy, direct from the tapes in 1985, then lost for decades with no one but the Music Box crowd hearing them until now… 35 years later?! Those lost tapes have now been recreated through Marshall’s unparalleled and unquestionable production skills, and who better to give you their story than the man himself: “I would take tapes to the Music Box and Ron Hardy would play my music. Vibe was one of those tracks. I recorded Vibe in 1985, but it became one of my tracks that I just forgot about until some guy on Facebook sent me a recording of it, that was taken from a club. The only person who I ever gave a recording of Vibe to was Ron Hardy. The only other people I know who had copies of the track was Gene Hunt and DJ Emanuel Pippin. “The original version of Vibe was made using a Roland 707, Roland JX8 P keyboard and a Roland 727 drum machine. I was still working at the Post Office at the time, and this was pre-Move Your Body (The House Music Anthem). Vibe was the building blocks for Move Your Body because it was using the instruments on the track that I discovered what I could do with the bass sound, to make a track like Move Your Body.” - Marshall Jefferson Likewise, ‘Human Condition’ by Jungle Wonz, sees Marshall reuniting with Harry Dennis, using the same base as Vibe Three but with Harry providing the vocals with his brilliant poignant lyrics over the top, that are evidently relevant for us all today. Speaking on ‘Human Condition’ Harry expressed, “The track we have is on terms of suffering in the Hoods of Chicago or any place with poverty, and it’s deep.”

The track is based on few, but effectively used ingredients like a hammering broken beat and those odd vocal bits. Thus, it gets to the point without detours. Being a scene-legend himself, Toronto's Basic Soul Unit contributes GROTTO BOUNCE, a raw but precise nod to classic Detroit and Acid tunes. Finally, former Hamburger and now Berliner Christopher Rau is in full play mode and turns on all the equipment in the studio for PARADIJS, a wonky house track that gives you goose bumps even though he may be throwing you out of step.

This summer, Soundway Records will release a double vinyl compilation from South African-raised, UK-based DJ and producer, Esa Williams. Titled Esa Presents Amandla: Music To The People, the compilation spans electronic music from around the globe, which feature heavily in Esa’s DJ sets and hold a special place in his record bag – including exclusive versions and hard-to-find tracks from the last two decades.
Esa Presents Amandla will be preceded by a promotional teaser 12” out 31 May, featuring Penny Penny’s 2001 impossibly rare Kwaito House monster “Shilungu”.
A hypnotic, percussive, groove-driven anthem, it features chanting in Tsonga, celebrating South African icon Penny Penny’s Shangaani roots.
On the flip is the acid-soaked “Shilungu (Esa & Mervin Granger ’99 Mix)”, re-interpreting the track with key elements from the original which are extended into a late night, Chicago House influenced chugger.
Esa Williams is an ambassador for the South African music scene within the crowded landscape of the European nightlife – balancing a hectic DJ schedule, a monthly radio show on Worldwide FM and various live projects. He is currently in the midst of a long-term DJ residency at Phonox London, where he embarks on a weekly musical expedition.

Opener 'Daradada' is a spiritual deep house cut with swirling pads and classic vocals
drifting next to the jazzy keys. It's expansive and cosmic in design and one that touches the
heart on many levels. 'Here Comes The Moon' is another cut that shows off Roca's mastery
of astral melodies. His gorgeous chords and delicate keys rise up to the stars as warm,
dynamic drums bring the weight down low and spoken words unfurl in a seductive fashion.
The Crue remix of 'Daradada' then brings more drive with harder but still organic house
drums and hits. The chords take on a melancholic quality and an elastic bassline pumps the
party with a playful sense of energy. Last of all is 'Get Down' which once again sinks you
into a beautifully warm and heady world of soft focus chords and late-night synth work.

TLM034 will be our 45th release since 1996 and 25th since reforrning the label in 2019. It seemed inevitable that this release would be one of our Best Of Various EPs featuring new and established artists as we have done previously. Starting off this milestone release we have the ever growing Cumulative Collective with AskaFara. An Epic 10 minute track pushing all the right buttons for listening and the dancefloor alike. Featuring Cormac Fulton, Stefano De Santis, Takashi Nakazato, Ayumi Suzuki and Mitsuru Tanaka, musicians from England, Italy and Japan respectively. All brought together by head of the label Steve Conry who also produced and mixed the track with Stefano De Santis. Track 2 on the A side is by a new name to most, Takahiro Fuchigami with Strange Acquaintance. A beautiful broken beat track with a distinctively Japanese sound. Onto side AA and that kicks off with Melchior Sultana and The Playground. Melchior has previously released on TLM in 2022 and 2023. For 2024 he delivers a superb jazzy deep house track in his own particular Mediterranean style. Next up is Brazilian multi instrumentalist Fabio Santanna with Melô Da Cuíca, a fantastic Brazilian Boogie track. Fabio came to our attention from his release Chega Mais Lincoln on Joutro Mundo’s superb Brazilian label Onda Boa. Finally rounding off the AA side is The Robinson from Italy with Song 1. A brilliant blues tinged broken beat track that gets better every time you hear it.

Radio Slave's 'Venti' is released on Rekids on May 17th and is a twelve-track celebration of Matt Edward's most prominent alias' history. Starting life as a series of singles that began in 2023, 'Venti' sees Edwards explore lower tempos, House, Disco, and the Pop reinterpretations that birthed the moniker back in 2001.

From Venti’s opening track onwards, a glistening piece of piano-led house that's become an anthem at Sean Johnston and the late Andrew Weatherall's lauded Alfos parties, it is clear that Edwards is keen to celebrate the past but through the lens of now. A Radio Slave favourite, 'Wait A Minute', is updated to include a powerful vocal from Nez. Kylie's 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' - a track that kicked Radio Slave into the modern dance music consciousness is reinvented as an Italo-inspired cover featuring Michael Love Michael delivering glorious vocals. 'Wild Life' and 'Wake Up', another two tracks that, as singles, dominated house and disco sets of the great and good in 2023, feel simultaneously fresh while paying homage to the origins of House - message-heavy vocals and all. A cover of Audion's 'Mouth to Mouth' and Edwards' tribute to Terry Hall, the Fun Boy Three reimagining 'The Lunatics' are keen displays of Radio Slave's knack for taking on beloved tracks and making them his own. The lasers-set-to-stun cut-and-paste nu-disco of Radio Slave’s 'Jaws' is a muscular and timely reminder that the punch of a track lies in its feel rather than tempo, while Edward's command of dub aesthetics and unmatched ability to stretch grooves into a tension-filled journey shines through on 'New Balance' and the epic closer, 'Thirty-Six'. Never one to entirely give into the throes of the 4:4, the cinematic electro of 'Stranger In The Night' and Balearic Cagedbaby collab 'Amnesia' round out 'Venti' as the whole Radio Slave experience - as intense as it is subtle.

One of the most prolific and critically lauded electronic music artists of the past two and half decades, Matt Edwards was born in Catford, London, in the early 1970s. When acid house hit the city, Edwards was deep in the scene, and he's remained there since. Residencies at the groundbreaking Ministry of Sound and an 'unofficial' residency that has seen him become one of Panorama Bar's most booked DJs during his 15-year stint living in Berlin have provided the grounding for an enviable tour diary that continues today.

His Rekids imprint, a label that has platformed some of dance music's biggest names, has been regarded as a high benchmark for two decades with Matt as sole A&R. Collaborations with legendary artists such as DJ Hell and Robert Hood, releases for Running Back, R&S, Innervisions, Figure and more, and a remixography that simply couldn't be repeated in modern music show just how important Radio Slave is.
