ZentaSkai unveils stunning, high-concept house album on Mask Records.
ZentaSkai undertook a period of research into the underlying structure and organisation of the human brain
before writing ‘The Architecture Of The Mind’. The Berlin-based artist then took what had been learned and
kept it in mind when writing the music that marks Mask's first album release. It comes with extensive
background notes on each track, and an operational manual of sorts - notes from the artists as to the effects
each piece will have on those who hear them.
"The message conveyed by this album is that life itself is filled with music, but our egos often prevent us from
being in harmony with this symphony. Inner chaos and silence can be challenging to bear, leading us to seek
solace in external noise. We have constructed a barrier between our inner and outer worlds, causing us to
lose touch with the rhythm of harmony. However, by embracing the illusion of separation and dancing to good
music, we can rediscover harmony with ourselves and our environment. To fully experience the essence of
the album, it should be played loudly on a proper sound system or high-quality headphones. By immersing

The gorgeous 'Mind Mapping' opens up with deep and dubby drums and lush harmonies that soothe you to
your core, '030' then has more raw, heavy drums with many layers of glowing synths, glassy melodies and
organic found sounds. 'Fügung' keeps the deep and introspective moods coming before the crisp tech of
'Flow Dreaming' ups the ante with more drive and layers of vocal whispers, hi-hats and smeared dub chords.
Elsewhere the likes of 'Quiet Reflection' lean into the groove with swirling pads and one-word vocal sounds
drifting through the air over propulsive drum loops, and 'Boiling Range' suspends you in deft synth loops
amongst the stars over a prickly house beat.
The superb synth craft and well-designed grooves continue through the dusty deep house of
'Karl-Marx-Allee' and minimal dub of 'Dynamic System' before the elegant melodic techno of 'Apeiron' and
dreamy synthscapes of 'Parallel 30' close the album in a reflective fashion.
This is a deeply evocative album with a fully realised concept that is as thought-provoking as it is immersive.

Rob has been instrumental in putting UK House music on the map since the early 90's. “Bumpers” is the latest EP on T4T LUV NRG by DJ Autopay, the alias of musician and DJ Russell E.L. Butler. All of these tunes were written with DJs and blending in mind—like bumper cars, they are fun yet emotionally charged and built for unexpected collisions of sound. “More Femme, More Masc” is a queer non-binary anthem with heavy Baltimore-influenced vibes, written by Russell during the pandemic in a time of peak vulnerability, their voice cracking throughout. The track is an interpretation of “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman and “Sometimes I Rhyme Slow” by Nice & Smooth but sounds like nothing we have heard before. Tropes 1, 2 & 3 are all house instrumentals in the spirit of the golden age of American house music yet interpreted through Russell’s unique lens. These cuts would have been as at home on Guidance records years ago as they are today on T4T LUV NRG, evoking the swinging dance beats and heady vibes of producers like Callisto and the early Large records by Kerri Chandler and DJ Rasoul. Russell has created something truly special for the contemporary dance floor with this timeless EP.

The 8th instalment of Deep Site's 'Vinylized' limited edition 12" series sees German producer Frankman and Catelan Alex V join forces to supply four generous portions of Deep House dope on wax.

A DJ and producer since the early 90s, Frankman was heavily involved in shaping Leipzig’s unique Deep House scene. Frankman has held residencies at the city's most iconic venues since '92, founding The 'FM Musik' imprint with Ralf Bürger in 1998. He's since gone on to perform all over the country and release on mythic imprints such as Dessous and Cocoon.

Alex V is truly one of the unsung heroes of Deep House. His distinctive, effortless, yet deceptively complex production style has been bubbling in the underground, a mainstay in the digital crates of diggers and DJs since '99. After moving to the UK, Alex founded his Sophisticate Recordings label in 2008, and continues to develop his sound, which seems to get more accomplished with every release.

Alex V's 'Impulse' opens proceedings, a pristine and warm mid-tempo groover with pristine sonics and soaring synth pads. Frankman makes his entrance on the A-side with 'Lonely Move', a hypnotic and atmospheric gem which steadily unfolds into something quite mesmerising.

Frankman opens the B-side with 'Nothing But Darkness', providing a moodier, more introspective feel with soul-stirring synth chimes cutting through the groove like the sun through clouds. Alex V takes over to close out the side, and the EP, with a floaty melodic techno cut entitled 'Aura', summoning up a mellow, soft-focus 80's movie dream sequence.

With a nudge and a wink, Brutal Flowers is a (de)coded map of memories wavering with familiar intrigue. Disco legend Sylvester comes to Dark Entries with Private Recordings: August 1970, an intimate collection of vintage jazz, blues, and gospel. While Sylvester is best known for his chart-topping collaborations with producer Patrick Cowley, such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” this release reveals his passion for the sounds of the 30s and 40s. In 1970 a 22-year-old Sylvester had moved to San Francisco and found himself involved with the Cockettes, the infamous psychedelic performance art troupe. Among this milieu was Peter Mintun, a pianist and record collector living in a commune devoted to retro culture. According to Mintun, “We were like hippies who lived in the twenties. We lived in a house that didn’t have anything modern in it. Nothing in it was made after World War II.” Mintun and Sylvester bonded over their love of Black singers of yore and were allotted a slot during Cockettes performances reviving the music of the Prohibition Era. One afternoon, Sylvester and Mintun recorded a number of their shared favorites using a high-end microphone a friend had acquired. Private Recordings features 9 songs from this session, including standards like “Stormy Weather,” “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and “God Bless the Child.” Sylvester’s unmistakable falsetto brings depth and a dash of camp to these familiar tunes. The recordings are casual and intimate, even capturing banter between Sylvester and Mintun; their brief rendition of “When My Dreamboat Comes Home” has the duo working out a melody in real time. In addition to their sonic explorations of decades past, Sylvester and Mintun also staged photographic shoots in vintage couture. Private Recordings comes with a 16-page booklet on firm cardstock featuring images from these never-before-seen shoots as well as liner notes from Mintun detailing his friendship with Sylvester and their experiences recording. All this is housed in a metallic silver sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh featuring a 1920’s Art Deco aesthetic. The record will be released on September 6th which would have been Sylvester’s 76th birthday, and all proceeds from Private Recordings will go to the two charities that Sylvester left his royalties after his death: Project Open Hand and PRC (formerly Aids Emergency Fund). This essential release documents the earliest known recordings from one of disco’s greatest talents.

Pride is some dank ass bassment shit right here. Percussive grooves for days, mind melting sounds and a nice tripped out vocal to round it all out. Pride has a modern minimal shuffle, and that swingy greasy percussion that the Mexicans do so well,its even low rumble that hits just right in the booty.

A perfect combo of blended brains and brawn!

On the flip we have the K-Dot. I hope it's referencing some new drug that is microdot acid and K combined in a mind warping 250Mg tablet. This song sounds just like that, mind bending, face melting grinding madness, it rolls and rolls and evolves and evolves. Put that record on and just watch people make twisted faces and dance like they are puppets getting their strings pulled.

Mr. Cool nailed this, and I question his sanity, and life choices. Nobody normal makes music like this.

If you don't like this record now, you probably will in 18 years when it's the jam all over again cause a 65 year old Raresh drops it at Sunwaves 309.

Detroit artist Julion De’Angelo steps forward into his own with a new musical offering:the inaugural EP from his new imprint, Maybee Hill Music. Named after the street that he grew up on, the label celebrates ancestral guidance and reflecting on the past, so you can move Forward! Can’t Go Askin is an exuberant testament to Black joy, building and shining triumphantly throughout its mesmerising 12-minute runtime.The track centers on a riff that immediately locks you in, as it stretches and expands with a seductive, propulsive groove, with percussion and keys all floating below a soaring and shimmering Juno. This bold and idiosyncratic interplay results in a jam which takes you Higher, transcendent in the spirited tradition of Chicago and Detroit. De’Angelo completely switches gears for the flip side of this musical offering. Reflecting Cancer Moon is an immersive descent into deep dubby waters inspired by a night walk in the woods. A hypnotic, bare-bones meditation with crazy swing, that explodes into a rhythmic swirl of percussion. Dub delay echoes in and out as we journey deeper into the forest with the moon illuminating our way forward. This EP embodies De’Angelo’s restless urge to constantly seek out new sounds and open up new sonic areas for experience and transformation, with two tracks reflecting two sides of the musical spectrum.

Zakmina presents a commanding dark disco release for Minimood with two spellbinding originals filled with unique and captivating sounds. The EP is complemented by compelling remixes from Curses and Rude 66. “Makam” comprises of an alluring array of instruments that create a mesmerizing atmosphere with an oriental mood to it. Curses retains this atmosphere in his remix, albeit with a deeper and darker tone. Paolo Mosca makes intricate, multi-layered electronic music. Inspired by the early club sound pushed by the pioneers from his home region Veneto, he fuses house, trance and ambient - and moves forward. The Metaphysics EP displays the artist's passion and ingenuity, unfolding technical skill that makes clear his studio clock is set to 2023 and not 1993. On "Luciddreams" a statically charged beat and organ bass work up a groove. Accompanied by a misty pad and a slow, pensive arpeggiator, it pulses towards the break: there an acid line emerges, finds its spot in the mix, and refuels the track. "Energia" draws from a bolder, more euphoric range. Hand drums, a glittering lead and airy yet restrained chords float soaked in reverb and delay. A lean bass sequence tightly keeps the rhythm as flanged claps and subtly positioned sweeps create extra movement. The second side's opener, "Under the sea" features a formant filter lead meandering within the sweaty framework of heavily gated choir pads and a frugal bassline that eventually gets layered with an M1. Modulated vocals and strokes of additional melody ensure the stereo field again gets used to its full capacity. "Acqua" is a fitting coda. Some familiar patches are deployed over a tumbling beat that takes charge of the pace from the get-go. The palette might seem bright and blissful, but as always, the track's latticework contains enough contrast for a slight feeling of melancholy to keep simmering beneath. Mosca cited his meditation routine, how it helps him materialize ideas and thoughts, as a main drive upon finishing this record. The Metaphysics EP is a ruminative work. Comprised of four explorations in deftly manipulating energy with due attention to balance and momentum, it easily flows between genres, details darting in and out, showing the artist's understanding of composition and dance music history. It is a deep-dive selection of club-oriented cuts we are excited to release on Altered Circuits.
