Before relocating to NYC in 2020, Pontchartrain invited colleague Javonntte over to record several songs together at Pontch’s east-side Detroit studio. The collaboration yielded several songs that blend Pontch’s studio prowess and dramatic sound, with Javonntte’s wide ranging performance skill, and soulful style. “Cirrus”, as the name suggests, is a deeper cloudy synth-heavy house track, previously selected by DJ Holographic for release on Carl Craig’s Detroit Love vol 6 compilation, but get’s an updated mix & master, as well as a seriously heavy remix by fellow motor city deep house honcho, Delano Smith. “Keep Dancing” features additional vocals by Javonntte in a hard hitting and highly playable “Detroit” version, as well as a completely different version re-mixed and produced in Pontch’s Harlem studio.

Much-loved for his stripped back and dubby style - with previous EP “Got That Music In My Mind” championed by Disclosure on their Mixmag mix - here we witness the Sthlmaudio Recordings founder loosening up with four shoulder-rolling rides of deep house greatness which commemorates his and Eddie Leader’s tour of South America in 2013/14.

It’s the first new material we’ve heard from the producer since his 2016 EP “Accent Grave” and the track “Embryonic Connections” off our 15th year anniversary collection released early in the year.

Effortless in construction, with the genre’s classic tropes of poking organs, sub-tickling bass, rich atmospheres and cheeky, playful vocal samples littered throughout; the EP’s real beauty comes across in Agnès’ unfathomable grasp of swing and shuffle, instantly injecting listeners with a fidgety energy and need to dance. Oasi (Deserto Remixed) features two groups of transatlantic contributors: Shigeto, DJ Dez, and Sterling Toles from Detroit; Populous, Godblesscomputers, DJ Rocca, and Silvano Del Gado from Italy, all close friends of the band. The remixes are rounded off by two versions from the man behind OkÃ©, Andrea Visani, under his Katzuma and King Dumitru aliases.

Sound Of Vast welcomes the return of The Mole this November with his 'That Is Nice' EP, comprised of three typically twisted cuts from the Canadian-born Berliner.

Over the course of the past two decades Colin De La Plante, better know to most as The Mole, has unveiled numerous EP's, singles and albums via the likes of Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Slices Of Life and of course Sound Of Vast where he returns here following output in recent years from the likes of DJ Sodeyama as The People In Fog, Cinthie, Com Sin aka Cosmin TRG, Shinichiro Yokota and Akiko Kiyama from the Japanese imprint.

Opening the EP is 'Vetafit', laid out across seven a half minutes with bubbling metallic chimes, bumpy bass notes, crunchy drums and an amalgamation of intertwining plucked synth stabs. Title-track 'That Is Nice' follows, shifting focus to cut up funk licks, a walking bass line and tension building strings atop a dynamic, organic drum groove.

On the flip is '17 Day Parade' to conclude the EP, stripping things pack to punchy, modulating drums a wandering sub bass pulsations and warbling, intricately processed horns and stabs, once again we're treated to more weird and wonderful material from The Mole.

T4T LUV NRG presents “The Last Illusion,” an ep of four bass-heavy and powerfully emotional tracks by Oakland-based artist Bored Lord. All of these songs are proper hardcore house tracks in her unique style, pressed loud and built out of love between queer and trans people...the same love we use to survive.

The label fell in love with Bored Lord’s work after Eris and Maya (Octo Octa) played with her at a queer warehouse rave in L.A. What they saw in this unique artist was an energetic sibling, a DJ with the ability to use music and magic (“illusion” here an ecstatic technique) to set bodies free.

The first song “Everyday 2gether” conveys the triumph of togetherness with airy stabs and cutting breaks that make dancers drill down hard while they sway. The second song “gnc Nrg” is a tunnel of an acid track, meant for building GNC energy on dancefloors and in those bodies ready to receive the message. “Woman’s Wisdom”, the third song, is a full-on psychedelic banger cast from Bored Lord’s lived-experience of using chaos to both destroy and create. The e.p.’s closing song “So In Luv” revels in love’s intoxication with its hard mid-tempo breaks and gorgeously lifting pads.

The cover art by Periwinkle Lamb and the title of the ep are inspired by the book “The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions” along with its accompanying illustrations. (L. Mitchell, ill. N. Asta 1977). “The Last Illusion” is available on 12” vinyl and for digital download from the label’s Bandcamp and at fine music stores.

One of my first record releases was on Traum Schallplatten in 2007. I was living in Berlin and Traum was at its peak launching acts like Extrawelt, Dominik Eulberg, Gabriel Anada, Minilogue, Fairmont… The era of melodic minimal… The release of Luftlust hit the big DJ’s like Sven Väth etc. And I was truly overwhelmed by the support. But the version on the 12″ was actually pitched up 5 BPM. And in the end the mastering was not in my personal preference. Watering my feel of it, once or twice a year people actually ask me to do a remaster. Over the years it has been a track circulating the web and playlists, haunting me. Last year I dug in the past and actually wrote a masters exam in philosophy about being a youngster in the techno scene and how to keep up creativity while working with record labels. Somewhere in that process I decided to face the old ghost and make it happen. Time was ready for the re-release of Luftlust, on my terms on my own label Kranglan Broadcast.

Session Victim and Erobique join forces once again for a beautiful cover version of Mark- Almond's "The City", starring Jamie Lloyd's enticing vocals and featuring Linnart Ebel's subtle rhythm guitar. Ever since Hauke Freer stumbled over Mark- Almond's final studio album Other People's Rooms at Montreal record store Death Of Vinyl a few years ago, the pair would regularily finish DJ nights with this 1978 recording of their hit single "The City" - and since then, the idea of recording their own rendition had been tossed around frequently. Carsten "Erobique" Meyer was not the first but really the duo's only choice to see this through and well, just listen to the impeccable Rhodes/Clavinet combination he came up with. However, it is Sydney's Jamie Lloyd who steals the show and takes the song into his realm, putting his very own stamp and character on this certified classic. Long time collaborator Linnart Ebel complete's the band with his ever subtle rhythm guitar. The two, three, four, five man house, not house band branches out for all the right reasons and this is the result.

We wanted every release to be the outcome of a long research through uncommon sounds and Aplwax010, yet again, is an unidentified sonic object picked up by our radar. The last one though! We didn’t plan it, we just felt like the time has come -eventually- to close this beautiful chapter. More than one factor led us to take this decision: the progressive concern about the planet (therefore the impossibility to keep producing plastic bags and gadgets), the desire to leave at our peak and to invent something new are just two of them. The constant process behind the renewal of our sound -which we embraced ten years ago with the birth of Apparel Music- sometimes passes through hard choices and we need to feel again that sensation of ‘void’ in order to create something fresh, different, as we did when we started Apparel Wax. We won’t drag our masked hero to a point of sonic stagnation. We’d like to send you all a big greeting and a heartfelt thanks for every second of your time spent listening to Apparel Wax, it literally meant the world to us. A reference work, a body of knowledge, a record of human endeavour: this archival release of works from Arcarsenal's fertile collaboration in the period 2011–2016 is all of those things. Pressed on its two discs you will find, in the duo's own words, the 'broken flowers that needed just a little care and attention to bloom'. And exquisite flowers they are, rooted in the reduced formality of minimalism, yet prone to frequent and unabashed florescence. Ranging from their very earliest productions, made with limited gear, through to later recordings from a fully-equipped studio, the tracks move from techno to dub and house and into blissful after-hours and ambient, all with the rich and spacious imprint that is their own. Most of these tracks have been firm favourites on the dancefloor, whether played by other DJs or Arcarsenal themselves, yet this is the first time any of them have seen an official release. This 'Compendium' is a record of Arcarsenal's past achievements; only time will tell what new endeavours the two may pursue.

The album marks one of the most enduring, extraordinary legacies to grace America’s illustrious music history, not just in electronica but far beyond. Founded in 1991 by Michael and his father Sam Weiss, and recognizable immediately by its distinctive character logo, the label grew rapidly, in no small part due to Michael Weiss’ practically unmatched passion for discovering new music.

“Louie Vega and Kenny Dope woke me at 4am on Tuesday night, Wednesday morning from their studio telling me they had something really different that I needed to hear,” Michael recollects. “I asked if they could play it over the phone. They said if I wanted to hear it I had to come to the studio. So of course I got myself up, got dressed and went there. That “really different track” ended up being ‘The Nervous Track’, a tune that became our signature release and was also highly instrumental in the emergency of London’s ‘Broken Beat’ movement.”

The label’s willingness to take chances on fresh sounds and innovative concepts rising up from the melting pot sidewalks of NYC ensured a body of work that has become a living musical history of the city. House cuts ‘Unspeakable Joy’ and ‘Nitelife’ (Kim English), ‘Get Up (Everybody)’ (Byron Stingily) and ‘Feel Like Singing’ (Sandy B) bump up against hip-hop anthems like ‘Who Got Da Props’ (Black Moon) and “Bucktown” (Smif-n-Wessun) and reggae cut ‘Take It Easy’ (Mad Lion); soulful flows from Mood II Swing (Kim English ‘Learn 2 Luv’, Loni Clark “Rushing”), Armand Van Helden (‘The Anthem’) and Nuyorican Soul (‘Mind Fluid’) sit alongside seminal techno singles like Winx’ ‘Don’t Laugh’. The young artists and producers who joined the Nervous Records’ family have gone on to become some of the most hallowed and celebrated dance acts of all time: Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, David Morales, Tony Humphries, Roger Sanchez, Armand Van Helden, Kerri Chandler, Kim English, Byron Stingily, Josh Wink, to name just a handful.

“We did a release with Josh Wink under his Winx alias entitled ‘Nervous Build-Up’,” Michael said. “It did well and it was obvious how talented Josh was. Subsequent to that release I was pretty persistent in asking him to continue to play me his new demos. During one phone conversation he said, “Mike I’m gonna play you something over the phone but don’t laugh when you hear it.” That demo ended up being ‘Don’t Laugh’, which became one of our biggest international hits and still to this day is one of America’s earliest and most impactful techno hits.”

As much a celebration of the label’s future as it is of their past, Nervous Records: 30 Years is but a marker in the imprints’ history, a clear sign of where they’ve been and also where they’re going. With 30 years behind them, the label’s determination to unearth new raw diamonds in the rough is as unwavering as ever.

“I’ve always been one to look at what others are doing (the industry at large) and think, “ok, are they doing this specific thing for a reason, or doing it because everyone else is doing the same thing” and make my decision based on that,” says Nervous Records’ General Manager Andrew Salsano. “In an age where data metrics and analytics reign supreme, I remain steadfast that they should be complementary to your decision and not the sole indicator to make one. So many songs today are written with 15 second hooks in mind for social media, and while there’s nothing wrong with that business model you will always be chasing the wave instead of carving out your own path and identity.

“My primary focus for the sound of the label has and will continue to revolve around signing good songs and music that has the ability to react at the street level first. The best results come from artists that are firstly given a bit of local love that grows into a global impact. Fresh ideas that express child-like curiosity and artists showing vulnerability in their music are also something I look for, artists and producers that are not making music with certain markets in mind, but rather their own style and signature that is unique but able to straddle the fine line of underground and overground.”

Still as raw, as underground and as finely tuned to the dance floor as they ever have been, perhaps the secret to the success - and the longevity - of Nervous Records has something to do with that hard, dogged, no-holds-barred NYC edge that runs through the veins of the label. With the next generation of producers rising from the clubs of New York, one thing is certain; Nervous Records will be there to find them, nurture them and bring them to the world at large, over the next decade and beyond.

The Handy Records crew return once again with a stunning EP from none other Mr Bobby Cazanova. A1 is an absolute gem. Nostalgic, catchy, euphoric and all-round feels. Just what we needed after the 2 year hiatus from nonsense. It’s a speedy emotive number with all the bells and whistles for a great time. Definitely one for the 6AM sunset. Following; the A2 is a sub aquatic bubbler. Low slung bass and rich strings lead this into a deep technical groover. Again Bobby has nailed the feeling of having heard this before but never quite like this. The A3 is something quite special. Acid lines and driving bass make this an absolute heater for the floor. On the flip we have another fast-paced rhythm. This time capitalising on the darker side of Bobby’s mind. Between pulsating baselines and inquisitive synths there is an emotive and paced production that is sure to get people moving. Rounding off the EP is a darker piece. Glistening pads and pensive arpeggiation make this a slow but sure burner for the dance floor.

A Swedish affair on this new Boss Musik release by the Flord King. Three warm, rich, funky, modern house tracks on the 9th release on the lovely label curated by Johanna Schneider. The opening track "Shakkuri" has Flord King expertly demonstrating his trademark groove, letting the confident bassline lead the way through a complicated blueprint of fluttering techy sounds, with hi-hats and snares in constant dialogue. Spanning just over 10 minutes - King serves up a seductive slice of eternity. A sneaky sample appears on B1 in "Gucki", delivering subliminal messages throughout. Electronic-jazz pioneer Mark de Clive-Lowe returns with the second installment of his Midnight Snacks EP series. Vol.2 kicks off with two dedications: “Crush Velvet”, a break-heavy, broken beat jam full of twists and turns, dedicated to Phlash – Mark’s mentor and dear friend, the late great Phil Asher. “Sorceress” is dedicated to the legend Chick Corea, a reworking of his Return to Forever classic by the same name. Featuring Mark’s lithe rhodes and piano lines, it’s perfect for the jazz-minded dancefloor. Side B kicks off with the downtempo head-nod of “Float into ETHer” before taking things back up-tempo again with “Joyful Resistance Part II” – a latin jazz-flavored 3/4-time broken beat samba keeping our spirits high in these unpredictable times. An EP packed full of future classics from one of the masters of the game.
