Kulør is proud to present My Space – Kasper Marott’s 2nd record for the label following 2019’s luscious, longform Forever Mix EP. The EP represents the latest addition to a diverse but uniquely crafted discography for the Danish producer, DJ and label owner. After scoring something of a mega-hit in 2018 with ‘Keflavik,’ released on Modeselektor’s Seilscheibenpfeiler label and named by Resident Advisor as “one of the biggest club records of the year,” Marott would use that momentum to launch the community-focused label Axces alongside close friend Alfredo92 and release a string of records representing some of Denmark’s finest producers. At the beginning of 2021 Marott released his debut album Full Circle, allowing a more complete picture of his distinctively melodic sound, one described by Pitchfork as “stimulating the imagination as much as the limbs… This is music for dancing but also music for dreaming.” The four pieces that make up the My Space EP seem to take that last quote as a jumping- off point, oscillating between the beatless serenity of ‘Mosens Tone’, the unashamed force of ‘NV Laser’ and the shades in between on the opening title track and closer ‘Microfest’. Marott’s influences snake over one another, folding crisp percussion underneath his signature glassy textures and intimate field recordings alongside supersaw riffs. This fluid shape-shifting results in an EP that hints at different genres while confining itself to none. Russian duo Scruscru and Mike Fot join forces for the 'Spliff Jamz Vol.1' EP on SlothBoogie Records this September. Following a series of visits to Moscow between 2018 and 2020 to play at Powerhouse club, Scruscru would swing by Mike Fot’s apartment for a smoke and a jam session, working with a variety of Roland and Korg gear late into the night. The results of these sessions have led to a series of ‘Spliff Jamz’ EPs; with the first four tracks being presented now via SlothBoogie Records. ‘Spliff Jazz’ leads the release, as the name would suggest fusing an amalgamation of intricately processed jazz samples and off-kilter jazz-tinged drums with modulating synth swells and heavy doses of sub bass. ‘Lazy Daydreaming’ follows and tips the focus over to a soft haze of ethereal pads, acid bass, resonant licks and bumpy drums. ‘Got U’ opens the flip-side, stripping things back with a focus on crunchy electro leaning drums, a snaking elongated bass groove and wandering Rhodes like synth tones. ‘Hauz Bonger’ then rounds out the release, shifting direction to a classic organ fuelled house vibe with choppy breaks, shuffled percussion and soaring vocals throughout.

Originally published in 1989, the book went on to sell 12,000 copies in a year before going out of print and becoming an underground cult classic. Includes a new introduction from author Trevor Miller and a foreword by Carl Loben (DJ Magazine). The book’s original soundtrack by A Guy Called Gerald is also being reissued and all five tracks will be available on vinyl for the first time.

In the summer of 1989, when Trevor Miller’s Trip City was first released with a five-track cassette EP by A Guy Called Gerald, there had been no other British novel like it. This was the down and dirty side of London nightclubs, dance music and the kind of hallucinogenic drug sub-culture that hadn’t really been explored since Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Maybe this is why Trip City is still known as “the acid house novel” and an underground literary landmark.

But for 2021, Trip City is back and the original soundtrack by A Guy Called Gerald is also being reissued and all five tracks will be available on vinyl for the first time. The Trip City soundtrack on vinyl is only available as a bundle with the book in a special Trip City tote bag.

“I remember back in the 80s, in my hometown, Tony Wilson (of Factory Records fame) was fond of calling Shaun Ryder the WB Yeats of his day. Tour-Maubourg & Christophe Salin are kicking off Salin Deep, Salin Records' sublabel dedicated to raw and dub- influenced house music. Every Record Sleeve is handprinted by Daria Salin (limited edition of 300). Ever since they met at Fête de la Musique in 2018, Tour-Maubourg and Christophe Salin have had a soul-mate kind of relationship. Their first collaboration took place with the release of Tour-Maubourg’s Duophonie EP on Salin Records (March 2020). Following this, both were keen to take the collaboration to the next level by creating a mutual EP which was initially planned to be made in the Autumn of 2020 at the Villette 45 Studio in Paris. Following a worldwide turn of events, this was no longer possible - as the EP's title 'From A Distance' suggests. However, both parties found alternative ways to create, write and mix tracks together despite the 1000 km distance between Paris & Lübeck. Salin Deep gave both artists the freedom to discover new musical territories. Their mutual influences and inspirations culminated in an EP intended to take the listener on a deep journey, something we love to do with all our releases. Daria Salin encompassed the sublabel's vibe as well as the concept of 'distance' into her artwork by aggressively zooming into her portraits of Tour-Maubourg & Christophe Salin. This way, the beholder is forced to keep a certain distance if they wish to see the two faces printed on the vinyl sleeve....

While there is a wealth of young, fresh talent on the house music scene right now, few have cultivated such a polished sound as Mark Laird. Hailing from Ireland but already enjoying success on the international scene, Laird joins Shall Not Fade's Killer Cuts series for the diverse and invigorating Random EP.

First on the 5-tracker is "Bet", and it's an immediate onslaught of breaks and heavy kicks, a chunky melody that follows choppy vocals to create a cheeky bit of dancefloor action. "I Just Wanna" takes on a noughties fidget house style, cascading vocal samples that are somehow hypnotic.

On the B-side, Laird shows the breadth of his production abilities, moving away from the hard-hitting club beats for a moment on "4 Cruisin'" and instead crafting a pulsing, spaced out house track that feels like sunshine dazzling on some far-off beach. Needing no introduction, NYC-based Baltra rose with the lo-fi house scene and has become one of the most innovative producers to come out of it, constantly pushing for a fresh sound with use of organic vocals and cross-genre experimentation. Returning for a full record on Shall Not Fade for the first time since the hazy sounds of Rendezvous EP in 2019, Baltra's Dreaming Of A Disco EP focuses on impeccable instrumentals and infectious melodies.

The remix package continues 30/70’s practise of rebirthing their music in a contemporary club sound but this time takes that intention a step further, veering into unexpected and more experimental territory for the band, calling in a new era for their musical endeavours.

The record opens with a duo that need no introduction, label legends Chaos In The CBD work their magic on TLF, playing on Josh Kelly’s drawn out noir-esque sax notes and Allysha’s whispering tones to create a sultry and sophisticated house number in their typically infectious style.

Next up Utrecht native Carista enters with the sound of the Netherlands for a new wave electro trip fresh off her BBC Radio 1 residency.

Tornado Wallace takes us straight to a hot pink sunset on the long lost festival floor with his Red Face Mix of Tastes Like Freedom.

Closing out are the cerebral and ethereal sounds of Yu Su’s Midnight Blossom Remix, where the Kaifeng-born composer, DJ and sound artist continues her exploration of ‘fourth world’ ambience and left-field dance music.

Over the last few years, 30/70 have become something of a supergroup: with Allysha Joy, Ziggy Zeitgeist, Josh Kelly and Matthew Hayes all soaring as solo artists and band leaders. Adam Cook aka Tommy Rawson returns to Bergerac with another killer EP of uplifting, tropical deep house, broken beat and Brit funk vibes. Following on from 2018s Gilles Peterson hammered 'Deep Blue' EP, he returns to Red Rack'ems Bergerac label with an absolutely killer 3 tracker which showcases the Watford, England based producers world class musical chops. Surely a contender for THE summer record with a sun kissed Brit funk A side which is tailor made for the Wwfm and We Out Here crew. A tropical house and broken beat burner make up an equally strong flip. We are very happy (and relieved) to be presenting to you an absolutely belting EP of UK soulful dance music. It's nothing short of a miracle that the A side track 'Illusions' has ever made it on to vinyl. Jonna from City Fly remembers 'Adam had this on a CDR at Southport in 2008 and it became our official track of the festival as we all partied together the whole weekend it got played again and again back at our Chalet parties'. But then as these things often sadly go, the funk diamond was lost for a few years in the digital ether. Fast forward to 2014 and Danny Berman aka Red Rack'em is playing a 320 of 'Illusions' everywhere but alas it's just a demo and Adam can't locate the arrangement to complete the track as it's on a broken computer in his Mums attic. Then finally this year, after many pleading emails and plenty of gentle cajoling, there's some amazing news! Adam has located the broken computer and after a day of digital open heart surgery, and then a re-edit over Zoom (no really) we finally had the killer, classic UK soulful anthem you're listening to today. A voice over from a disco documentary cleverly introduces each instrument on the intro before Tommy pushes the button marked 'biggest bassline of the year' and takes us into boogie heaven. 'Sound Crazy' on the flip is another one of those classic Afrobeat tinged Tommy rollers. Big room vibes but with a lot of soul. Rolling broken drums and a huge bassline combine with plenty of spicy, tropical atmosphere on top. The trademark Rawson uplifting chords begin after an anticipatory vibe filled breakdown, taking you to the stratosphere. 'Ads Mood' is the most 'classical' broken beat track on the record, but they are all playable in multiple environments and transcend mere genres. Heavy bass and extra funky syncopated beats climax into a beautiful almost orchestral feel to close off an exemplary EP of higher quality moods and emotions. Don't sleep.

Teddy Douglas presents Monday Night Studio Sessions Live @ Rockwell is a unique recording from a legendary event that is all about putting the focus on house music's finest artists. Monday Night Studio Sessions @ Rockwell is the brainchild of the imitable house impresario Teddy Douglas and his partner DJ Tanz. The night started in 2017 and ever since has showcased true artistic talent in a perfect setting with the legendary likes of Byron Stingly, Lalah Hathaway, Jasper St Company and Josh Milan, just a few of the animus who have played in the past. This session was live on the Monday and then recorded in Teddy's studio the night after with Davon McCoy on percussion, Charles Dockins on keyboards and the maestro DJ Tanz and Teddy Douglas conducting the show. Standout tracks on this essential collection include the 'I'm Blessed' Remix by Richard Burton with its driving gospel handclaps and Charles Dockin's magical live piano over the top. 'Spanish Joint' is a chunky dance floor party record that builds and builds with mesmerizing and hypnotic Spanish guitar played by Skip and the Whole Nine Yards. It is the Monday night theme song and gets played twice a night. 'You Can Do It' by Barbara Tucker, Zhana, and Teddy Douglas was the first single from the LP last year and epitomizes the musical house grooves you can expect at one of these sessions. Rochelle Fleming's 'Nobody's Fool' and 'Get Lifted' by Andrea Holdclaw were two strong singles before the pandemic, and 'We Belong Together' from the voice of house, Mr Bryon Stingily, and Teddy Douglas is the 100th release on the label, and it has a catchy hook that adds to the legacy of Byron Stingly classics. 'Rise (instrumental)' from Teddy Douglas is an absolute crowd favourite with powerful grinding organs that wail and moan with intensity throughout the tune. 'Gotta Get Away' is DJ Tanz's first production and an absolute killer with a techy 80's edge design to get the floor pumping. Add in the live and off-the-cuff happenings of Navasha Daya scatting to the crowd over 'Supernova Spinning' and percussionist Davon McCoy and saxophonist Brandon Moultrie having a jam session - you have a magical session captured in all its glory. The sublime collection is a real labour of love that features superbly talented artists at the top of their game.

The new school meets the old school. Riding those crystal-clear waves off the back of their standout EP for Wolf Music, New Zealand duo Manuel Darquart double down with this 10-inch remix package containing a classic reworking from the master of dream house, Don Carlos and a sleazed up street soul workout from themselves.

No introduction is needed when you see Don Carlos’ name in the mix. A legend of the Italian dream house movement that has influenced so much of what we’ve heard since, not least the productions of the Manuel Darquart guys. A dream (house) matchup some might say.

Step one, Carlos sprinkles his magic on ‘Keep It DXy’ switching up the drum programming and adding those Balearic flurries that add a considered dose of dreaminess to whatever he touches, think summery sweeping strings and echoing synth stabs.

Celebrated UK producer Preditah makes his debut on Palm Recs with ‘Glucose’ & ‘1950’. The two-tracker sees Preditah going back to the roots of his iconic UK garage infused dance-floor sound. The double a-side acts as the third release on the label, fresh from the success of DRAMA’s Don’t Hold Back last month and Girls Of The Internet in May. Preditah rose to prominence in the UK grime scene, signing to iconic collective Boy Better Know in 2013 before going on to produce official remixes for the likes of Disclosure, Skepta and Robyn to name a few. His productions have achieved BPI Gold and BPI Platinum status on several occasions, including 2017’s smash On My Mind with Jorja Smith and 2019’s So High with Mist & Fredo, the latter landing at number seven in the ‘Official UK Singles Chart’. Preditah described how the release came to fruition, stating: “In this present moment I am in love with tech house, so this is my take on the genre. I've played a lot of shows in Ibiza and I can imagine Glucose going down well in that environment. 1950 represents a time before my time, a time where the 'bassline' was the top-line melody and the surrounding elements complimented it. I made this for the club scene.” That Balearic feel is felt right from the get-go on Glucose, as four-four drum patterns converge on a pumping, house-led groove. Preditah’s innate garage influences shine through in the female vocal hooks, whilst whispering hats march on in the background to form a summer heater through and through. 1950 opens with reverberating lyrical samples and an infectious rolling bassline, before warming synth stabs arrive to create a feel-good, late-night cut.

Banoffee Pies Records 17th Original Series release comes via a 4 track Solo EP from Gallegos, making a return after his debut EP "Mad As Hell" in 2018. Along with multiple appearances on compilations and other series on the label, this record is a nostalgic reflection of UK club culture.
