Lockdown took its toll on Clive. Not the isolation or sense of impending doom - that was normal - but specifically the worldwide marmite shortage in April. On the verge of a ‘Driving to Dundee barefoot’ style meltdown, Clive found solace in his 20 year obsession with Alan ‘foot on a spike’ Partridge. Taking Musique Concrete to its textbook conclusion, Clive has made music only using sounds from TV series ‘I’m Alan Partridge’. Over 100, mainly foley samples were repurposed into the two title tracks of the Alan EP. Alan A is a raw yet melodic, big plate of House. Containing everything from drawer slams to air bass, cereal destruction to Black Beauty, this orchestra of found sound makes for some unique and exciting rhythmic textures. Grab a cup of beans and enjoy. Things take a dubby turn for Alan B. Late night broken beats and sultry bass worthy of Alan’s Deep Bath. Featuring Lynn on jungle time-stretched vocals. The EP is bought to a close by off-kilter acid-tinged synthwave nugget, Linton TT. It doesn’t fol-low the Partridge sampling rules but needless to say has the last laugh. Bonus Easter egg for the vinyl heads is a “Dan!” locked groove at the end of side A. Cook a cat! Label info: Income Trax is Clive from Accounts’ filing cabinet of curiosities. Home for his more eccentric and exotic ideas. Toma Dale achieves exactly what Classmatic set out to do. The track opens proceedings with enticing congas that instantly transport you to Latin America. Punchy drum pads pounce in and combine with the percussion to create a highly energetic base, as finely cut Spanish vocals are embedded to fuse everything together. Bape pays homage to the Hot Creations sound. Warm, soft, bouncy kick drums lead the track, joined by subtle acid sounds that tantalise the ears. The imprint is home to many a DJ's favourite tracks from the '90s with a back catalogue filled with pure gold! Packed, full of dance music nuggets. Chubby Chunks 'Testament 1' was one of those records! It had a universal appeal: played in all genres of the club night, none of the mainstream. Kerri Chandler’s Kaoz Theory welcomes Amsterdam’s Chris Stussy onto its roster with the ‘A Glimmer Of Hope’ EP. Amsterdam based producer and DJ Chris Stussy has become one of the most eminent figures in the contemporary house scene of the Netherlands and across the globe over the past five years, racking up releases on the likes of Eastenderz, Moscow, PIV, Contstant Sound and most recently his own Up The Stuss imprint. Here though he delivers his new four-tracker for Kaoz Theory. Leading the release is ‘Central Frenzy’, laid out across six and a half minutes with skippy percussion, a snaking bass groove, intricate synth sequences and sweeping vocal chants. ‘Riva De Biasio’ follows and tips the focus over to airy atmospherics a jazz-tinged bass groove and squelchy acid licks atop swinging drums. ‘Deviant Shadow’ opens the flip-side and merges an amalgamation of expansive dub chords and bouncy sub bass tones with a robust 4/4 rhythm. Lastly to round things out is title-cut ‘A Glimmer Of Hope’, wrapping up the release on a deeper tip courtesy of ethereal pad swells, metallic synth licks and shuffled drums.

Three songs taken from Chip Wickham's spiritual jazz album Blue to Red get reshaped by Photay, Medlar, and Chip Wickham himself. The result is a lush ep, every bit as good as the combination of a wonderful original track and an uber-talented remixer could be.
Photay has deconstructed the peaceful Blue to Red to turn it into a bombâ€”a storming dance track that keeps the spiritual vibe intact. The extra beatless version soothes your ear while creating a certain sense of anticipation.
The original version of Interstellar blends fusion jazz with the sound of West London's seminal broken beat scene. Medlar has plucked the track apart, then rebuilt it by adding some extra perc and synth sounds to the bass-driven beats. The result is some deep and heavy and funky business.
And finally, Chip recovered a take of wonderful astral slow jam The Cosmos that didn't make it onto the album, one with no drums, and cooked up a roomy cosmic dub, full-on Space Echo.

For an understanding of the past, you have to look to the future – or was it the other way round? No matter how you want to put it, some things are an aesthetic choice, and the meaning of style does not necessarily go hand in hand with the latest fashion fad or an incurable retromania. Chinaski’s debut (album under that name) on Running Back seems predestined to resume these discussions. Drenched in sepia colors and faded VHS tapes memories, fed by a science-fiction that never became a fact, essentially made with the ultramodern instruments of yesteryear (see back cover for further reference) that became redundant through their own relatives and a need to ensure efficiency (time, space, money), it’s either concept art, an ode to Disco Piu, a post card from the early days of Frankfurt’s Dorian Gray or the search and itch for a time machine. All of the debate above is rendered useless by the title though: No Pop, No Fun! And those are the main musical reference points here: instrumental pop that you can dance to, pastel melodies that stick with you and fun frequencies. Downtempo ballads for video game characters in love meet cabriolet anthems and scooter songs. Perfectly composed and carefully made. If John Hughes would have ever aspired to make a high school movie set in a post-apocalyptic Italy: this is what the score would probably sound like.

Chosen by Sabrina after a dream visitation, the nudibranch is a curious, resilient creature which harnesses its profound coloration to flourish in the oceanic infinity. Jones is the California-born, New York-based poet, singer and writer who has released several albums, both as a solo artist and in collaboration. Most famously, he co-wrote and sang on Ro?yksopp’s ‘49 Percent,’ while ‘I Don’t Know’ remains a much-loved house track. The original is a heavyweight house groove with taught drums and slapping hits. The seductive vocal is packed with warmth and soul and is what makes this one such a classic. The fresh new remix comes from Oscar L, a house and tech mainstay of the last 15 years. The International Feel label is back from an extended meditation. Well-rested and with a cornucopia of new ideas and records, IFeel is happy to announce the debut album from Charlie Charlie as the starting shot. „Little Things“ is the brainchild of Gabriella Borbély alias Bella Boo and Jens Resch better known as Chords. Born on a beach in Southern California instead of their hometown Stockholm, it is exactly what you would hope for such a record to be: pop music that is informed by hippie or counter culture and by a Balearic ethos (hence the International Feel address) that is free of blinkered definitions. In equal parts, the duo’s ten songs take the listener through honey dripping r&b, while respelling that certain Californian recording studio sound aesthetic, revisit vintage yacht rock and pop tropes as well as they are reflecting dance music influences in a broken, yet gold framed mirror. Most of all, it’s like a day dream that you don’t want to end. To quote our Italian friends from Edizioni Mondo: good listening experience! Band info: Charlie is Gabriella Borbély – also known as Stockholm’s deep house virtuoso Bella Boo. Charlie is Jens Resch – also known as prodigious producer/musician Chords. The two Charlies met on a beach in Southern California and immediately decided to write a song together. That first track was built on the sampled sounds of a rusty drainpipe. Charlie fired up a dusty ARP Odyssey and played a woozy solo over the drainpipe beats, then the other Charlie did the same, using that same legendary 70’s analogue synth. When they realized the two separately recorded solos played together in perfect harmony, they knew they had to keep heading down their newly found, shared musical path.

Next up on Seasons Series is an upbeat 5-tracker from Berlin-based producer, Carlo, who offers an exuberant respite from the context of urban seclusion out of which it was imagined.

Since his debut release back in 2009, the Spanish-born house connoisseur has well and truly mastered his craft: music that strikes the balance perfectly between the transportive, meditative potential of deep house and disco's danceable groove. where is everybody? EP is the product of this discovery. Lilting deep house track "Sensitive Response" sets the EP's feel-good tone whilst the title track picks up the energy with undertones of disco and funk.

On "Earth Two", Carlo teams up with Netherlands-based producer, Retromigration, to deliver a skippy sax-infused banger which lets you melt into its groove. Sampling a goodnight voicenote from his young son, "Noche" sees the EP at its most contemplative, a meditation on the isolating impact of lockdown. Finally, the tech-house sensibilities of the EP's closer "Moving Forward" leaves things on a positive note with a meandering funk bassline and blissful vocals.

Here he supplies two original tracks with a remix of each from Goshawk and David Moran respectively. Kicking off the EP is the first original track from Carlo titled “You and Me”. The story behind Shroomz, Guns and Roses came from the pandemic, it was a time I felt deep in nature and studying of zen, I felt like the pandemic brought out a darkness in me, and I combatted these negative thoughts with nature and mushrooms to create a balance in my life spending time in the mountains of Alabama and Asheville, North Carolina. I chose "guns" and "roses" as a way to juxtapose the violence we're experiencing in the USA with the peace of mind a rose can bring as a balance in life. Music makes its way through these tough times we're all facing, and to me, music is that rose. I paint a canvas of my emotions through synthesizers and drum machines to show the world balance can be found through even the toughest of times.

Heist Recordings has been pushing the envelope for house music since day one and we’re always on the lookout for artists that represent our vision on electronic music. Our next guest on the label fits that profile and more. He is the embodiment of modern-day electronic funk and a true wizard on the keys: Atlanta raised cool guy Byron the Aquarius.

Byron has a solid history on the label: He remixed Parker Madicine back in 2017 and did a mad solo on the 2019 released Dam Swindle track ‘The life behind things’. We’ve done some shows together and stayed in touch while Byron was working together with Jeff Mills on his 2020 jazz crossover record ‘Ambrosia’ on Axis. Now, after a solid string of releases on labels like Shall not Fade and Purveyor Underground, Byron is making his solo appearance on Heist. His ‘Akira’ EP goes from dark basement grooves to dreamy broken beats and features a remix by New York dance music wizard Kush Jones.

The Akira EP kicks off with ‘I love yo’. In this track, Byron decides to leave his keys at home and goes in deep with a moody club workout. ‘I love yo’ is a track that juxtaposes dreamy samples with rough percussion and vocal chops with a clear nod to the work of Mr. G. The melody is mellow, but don’t be deceived; clever drum programming and plenty of sub take this track into the club vibe just the way Byron likes it: warm, hazy and sexy AF.

Byron is not known for delivering straightforward house tunes, but when he does deliver them, he does it in style. Enter ‘Get up’; the A2 of the EP. There’s everything we love about house music: smart vocal chops, driving percussion, classic house keys and a booming sub to get you bumping to this beat.

The B-side sees Byron up the tempo and take a deep dive into bass territory with ‘Love’. In this track, there’s lush pads running over a percussive broken beat and chopped R ’n B vocals to add some serious sex appeal. It’s deceptively simple and clean but ever so catchy, which clearly shows Byron’s prowess as an electronic music producer.

Going back to classic house mode, we’ve got ‘Success’: A spoken word house track that fits right in with the classics. Byron sets the mood with some bumpy key-and synth work while brainstorming about originality and blackness throughout the track. Even though the message underneath might be a serious one, Byron succeeds in delivering this in a fun, uplifting way that never gets pretentious or divisive.

The EP finishes with a remix by New Yorker Kush Jones. This is an artist who understands how to build a groove. He could take you anywhere from house to juke, footwork and techno, which is exactly why he’s been getting so much love for his music recently. Kush is an artist who sees no boundaries in his music and still manages to create his own sonic universe. His remix of ‘I love yo’ takes a dreamy approach with soft chords running over an electronic groove with a pure and improvised feel. All elements fit together perfectly and it’s the clever ad-hoc programming and arrangement that suck you into his unbounded world from the first beat.

It is with extreme pleasure that we, Basement Boys Records proudly announce our 100th single release and 30th year in the music business as an active recording label! Holding down our 100th release is the legendary multi-faceted singer/songwriter/producer Byron Stingily. As one third of the Chicago-bred, world renown trio, Ten City and as its primary lead vocalist, Byron’s velvety falsetto graced such House Music staples as “Devotion”, “That’s the Way Love Is”, “My Piece of Heaven” along with scores of other classic House music favourites. As a solo artist, Byron went on to create such memorable House jewels as “Get Up” & “It’s Over” a classic collaboration with the Basement Boys for his project on Nervous Records. “We Belong Together” contains four mixes. The Monday Night Vocal Dub and Instrumental are up first, with percolating congas and swinging violins that accentuate the well-paced drums and percussion of this delectable mix. The brassy horns sing in tandem with Byron as he tugs on the heartstrings with his romantic, chromatic vocal adlibs and signature riffs. The sugar-laden strings and sparkling pianos brings to mind the 90's Ten City production of Marshall Jefferson. DJ/songwriter/musician/producer, Maurice Fulton is one of House music’s true originals, back where he started. Maurice had the first release on Basement Boys Records with Sticky People "Kong". A man with a mind-blowing complexity behind all that is deep, dark and funky. Fulton’s mix takes a more soulful tech approach employing a host of electro sounds. A fervent polyrhythmic vortex of percussive wind chime effects, married with classic snares, tom toms & hi-hats, deep sub bass and a meaty kick all define this masterful alignment of electro and acoustic elements. At the midway point, Maurice turns the suspense-filled symphonic intro from the previous mixes into this electro breakdown groove fest sure to drive dancers into a frenzy complete with Byron’s heartfelt lyric. Closing it out the Main Mix in all its glory, hi-powered, dense bottoms and percussive elements, sweet R&B “boogie” style chords, neatly placed horn accents with Byron slaying the lyric as he always does in his exquisite, soulful pleading falsetto telling the object of his affection, “We Belong Together”.

Lastly is ‘OD Soundtrack’ tying together a hard hitting EP with a little laid back tune to take you to a higher more peaceful place. The synth pad carries that smooth calm sound and then the kick is in your face out the gate. It’s got some airy flutes and grooving lead synth. Third and closing chapter of the Oyster Tribe series, the revised single edition of Brent Lewis ‘1739’ oozes a mix of breezy outback dreamtime, red earth funk and sun-baked drum virtuosity. Originally issued in 2004 as part of his self-released ‘Drumsex’ album, Lewis’ mystique-imbued tune sculpts a tripped-out hybrid jam out of spoon percs and folk-infused broken beat; and who better than OZ home-boys FIO and Fantastic Man to add their masters' spin to that totemic chugger. Whilst FIO cranks the BPMs a notch further and beefs up the bass to turn the OG mix into a serious contender for countryside banger of the year, Fantastic Man plays havoc with the whole of Lewis track’s DNA sequence, slicing, dicing and re-hashing its bits and bobs over and over again to form a Southerner variant of the Frankenstein creature, all sight set on busting dancefloors by the dozen.
