Cryovac is based in Detroit and is a platform brought to life by the efforts of a vinyl community of craftsmen and artists. Cryovac endures to shine light on a path less traveled . The E.P. starts with Jason Garcia’s “down like”a crispy 4/4 slide back rocker groove intermittently intersected by urgent synth, earsplitting climaxes, and compulsive samples that form rhythm. Body Mechanic follows up with a couple swigs of old school tec- funk surrounded by a dreaming synth lost in the memories of the fat boys. Flip to the backside where Garcia & Kretsch deliver “LA80s” a theme that is story told with dramatic synth, driving kick and bass, and triumphant rises and falls tying and dying together. Isaac Prieto’s “Searching” takes us out with a smooth minimal animal that shifts an easy melody and turns sleekly through a gauntlet of hi-hat , clap, and twisted sharp detunes.

As a fairly fresh face to the European dance music scene, involved with renowned musical outlets like Cocktail d’Amore and Born Free, DJ City has been turning heads with his playful and energetic style.
For Borneo’s ninth release DJ City delivers two deep dance floor cuts, referencing and paying hommage to his childhood idols, craftily combining well known building blocks into future classics.
”Sierra Madre” is a warm and deep dive into the aesthetics of the late 90s electronic music scene, balancing between lush pads and low bit rates. Steadily it progresses as the loops unfold and evolve into an ambient landscape of clear peaks and valleys. Dreamy and suggestive without becoming too literal or camp, it invites its listener to let the mind wander during the course of the dance.
On the flip side, “5426261” is a more playful feature as its percussion and somewhat off tune melodies roll out. The texture is light and invites its listener to venture in thought to an imaginary Mediterranean location right before dawn. The enigmatic title is repeated in a sample towards the end, implicating it is a phone number. Who are you trying to reach?

When you inject church into soulful house in a most subtle and effective way, you get the newest release from Kalim Shabazz in the form of “Joy”. What I like about this track is the fact that it is not overpowering like a lot of spiritual house tunes akin to this one. The vocalist delivers and doesn’t try to compete with the world or themselves. The subtly of Shabazz’s production is perfect and grounds everything as it clocks in at about 126.5 bpm. DJ Kemit’s The Lounge Lizards Remix of “Joy” (126 bpm) adds that ATL sound with a little bit of an extra bounce and groove but doesn’t take away from the feel of of the tune. The remix production fits the vocals just as easily as the original. It is a safe bet for either to be a choice mix for the DJ. Highly recommended!

New York, early 90's, the haydays of the New York and Jersey clubhouse! With labels such as NuGroove, Nervous, Freeze, Strictly Rhythm, Henry Street Music taking all the spot light, there is Jovonn working on a small but sensational catalogue of music that somehow gets overshadowed by the popular releases on the mentioned labels. The honest productions, jazzy melodies and playful vocals (rooted in gospel) were taking things into a more musical, more spiritual way, lacking gimmicks or dispensable samples. For the real diggers, the true lovers of House music Jovonn always was a name to watch, a producer of some of their favorite NY house tracks, tracks that have a raw edge combined with a sincere human touch and pure underground house vibes. Devin Brahja Waldman is a New York saxophonist, drummer, synthesizer player and composer who leads the group Brahja. Waldman has accompanied his aunt, poet Anne Waldman, since the age of ten. Waldman is a co-founding member of Radical Reversal, Diva of Deva Loka, and Notable Deaths. He has performed with Patti Smith, William Parker, Nadah El Shazly, Malcolm Mooney, Thurston Moore, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Charles Hayward, Luke Stewart and Yoshiko Chuma. Waldman is also a member of NYC's Heroes Are Gang Leaders (led by poet Thomas Sayers Ellis and saxophonist James Brandon Lewis), of Sam Shalabi's Land of Kush, and of the Norwegian hardcore group MoE.

As a youngster, Waldman was taken under the wing of avant-garde giant Paul Bley. Along with Anne Waldman and cousin Ambrose Bye, Waldman is a co-producer for Fast Speaking Music -a NYC poetry and music label which has released recordings with Amiri Baraka, Meredith Monk, William Parker, Laurie Anderson, Eileen Myles, CAConrad, Fred Moten, Daniel Carter, Clark Coolidge, Thurston Moore, Joanne Kyger and many others.

Master Plan was the Chicago based dance music project of Pepper Gomez and Tom O’Callahan. Spanning from 1984 to 1986, the groups development is in sync with the dance music scene of Chicago during that era. While their first record „Pushin’ Too Hard“ is a Windy City version of the NYC club music of the time and its European cross-pollination, „Electric Baile“ from two years later down the line is almost a quantum jump into house music. With the engineering help of Matt Warren, it bears the marks of Ron Hardy, Chip E, Farley Jackmaster Funk or the Wbmx dance party craze, if you will. Here you have remastered and updated versions by Enzo Elia and Gerd Janson. The first ones’ edit attempt of „Electric Baile“ ignited this edition. This spring, Safe Trip will release Welcome To Paradiso, an expansive retrospective of the Italian dream house sound co-compiled by label founder Young Marco.

At the tail end of the 1980s, a new take on deep house began to emerge from Italian studios. 'Dream house' drew inspiration from key U.S deep house records of the period – the spacey melodiousness of Larry Heard's productions, and the rich jazziness of tracks originating in New Jersey in particular – but sounded distinctly different. Its' 'head-in-the-clouds' feel – all rich chords, tactile basslines, fluid piano lines and starry electronics – made 'dream house' a uniquely Italian proposition.

First and foremost, the style echoed the wavy, glassy-eyed positivity of the period more than any other. While music in the UK and the low countries was getting faster and heavier, Italy's 'dream house' producers continued to create music shot through with warmth and colourful musicality until 1993. While few 'dream house' records were made after then, its' sounds and loose aesthetic influenced subsequent styles such as trance and progressive house.

During its' peak, dream house – or, as it was tagged by leading Italian label DFC, 'ambient house' (echoing the similarly minded work of UK pioneers such as The Orb and The KLF) – could be heard blaring from club sound systems across Europe. The style's popularity was fuelled, in part at least, by the runaway international success of "Sueno Latino".

Welcome To Paradiso gathers together some of the finest examples of the style for the first time since the turn of the 90s. There are cuts from key players in the movement – the likes of Don Pablos Animals, Sasha (later to find fame with a strong of bouncy, piano-heavy Italo-house cuts), and Dreamatic – plus a string of lesser-known names whose contribution to the evolution of the sound should not be overlooked. Young Marco has also found space for Leo Anibaldi's "Elements", a rare deep house outing from a producer who later helped define the sound of Roman techno.

The Artist Concurrently Known As Jackmate has been already been indoctrinated into our cult since he signed onto he Pampa bookings roster awhile back. As SoulPhiction he is also co-founder of Philpot, the Stuttgart-based label, home to the majority of his releases over the past 10+ years. Anyway, we get the privilege of stamping the Turkey logo on SoulPhiction's first proper release of 2013, following his remixes for Murat Tepeli and Detroit Swindle. "When Radio Was Boss" is a tribute to those magical electromagnetic waves that ruled yesteryear. With that prototypical Pampa percussion-rattling and clanking its way into the room-and a warm, round bassline bounce combined with some symphonic froth in the atmosphere, this track definitely demands airplay. On the dancefloor, at least! (And right in the middle of the track, catch the pleasantly jarring shout-out from Wbau, the call sign of the defunct New York radio station that counted members of Public Enemy and hosts of Yo! MTV Raps amongst its staff.) On the flip, the bpm gets cranked down just a bit for "Maybachswagger"-If the A-side is a tribute to radio, the B has roller-skating on its mind. Starting out spooky with a sampled voice cooing over a slightly detuned bassline, the surprise comes in the final third, when a kawaii disco vibe drops in, seducing you onto the rink for a few laid-back laps.

It takes a lot to achieve the status of legendary or era defining in dance music, its sands shift so quickly artists, genres and labels have often come and gone before you realise.
So it's with some pride and deserved justification that Yoshitoshi marks its 20th anniversary with celebratory remix packages of its most iconic tracks.

Already riding high in the Beatport charts with the success of the Uto Karem and Robosonic mixes of Eddie Amadors House Music, the latter of which has spent the past month in the overall top 5, the label now plans a one, two punch with the follow-up: Alcatraz seminal Giv Me Luv.

We thought long and hard about how we scheduled this 20th anniversary project, says label boss Sharam, little point launching big and then following up with a whimper so we deliberately chose Alcatraz for this difficult task.

But the challenge didnt end there; a massive record still deserves a massive remix and I think its safe to say we found the perfect woman for the job...
Step forward undisputed techno titan Nicole Moudaber who leapt at the opportunity to remix the track.

Ive got so many fond memories of Giv Me Luv, it was one of my favourite tunes from my formative clubbing days, recalls Nicole happily, so, when Yoshi mentioned the idea of me remix-ing it I just couldn't say no.

In fact I was so familiar with Alcatraz I was already awash with ideas of what I could, or should, do with it.

As I got into the mix one of those ideas just grew and grew, namely an extended breakdown that constantly builds; layering the memorable vocal to an intense pay-off and (hopeful) moment of real dancefloor drama. Nicoles humble description doesn't quite do the end result justice, which is a modern, masterful take on the classic.
Her iconic techno beats, dark twisted stabs and arrangement of that bassline drive toward the mentioned break, which will undoubtedly rival the fireworks of any impending NYE celebrations.

In fact, expect this track to be THE soundtrack to many a dance floor come the all-important hand-over to 2015. And, just in case that weren't enough, Yoshi has also secured the skills of Tent Cantrelle to deliver the perfect deep house foil to Nicoles techno ferocity as Sharam concludes, We wanted a real slice of contemporary funk from the companion mix.

Yoshi is synonymous with exploring the line between deep house and techno, perhaps no more so than during its formative years, so this re-mix completes the package perfectly.

The 4th release on Sofia by KiNK is all about warmth. The harmonies are deep, the instruments are muffled, the rhythms are humanised. Even when some of the tracks are getting a bit aggressive, they are not hurting, but giving the right amount of energy and surprise. This record is built from some of the live streams Strahil was doing during the pandemic lockdown in April. “101 Reasons” is a track with disco epic-ness and techno attitude. It captures KiNK’s dream of being on the sweaty floor again, surrounded by dancers, one big family, like it used to be. “Dreamer” is low key house music, with melodies, leaking between the notes and the rhythms are somehow derailing, but instead of chaos, you get that dreamy feeling like if you watch a ribbon in the sky. The phenomenal Dutch artist Frits Wentink delivers a tighter version of the track with his unique swing on the drums and extra chords, which uplift the track with new energy. The closing song “Set The Mood Right” is recorded with his usual collaborator Rachel Row on the vocals. It’s a very relaxed downtempo track, which takes an unexpected turn and it’s a perfect open end for the record. A warm record for the cold days.

In the second half of the release, the relentless groove of ‘Ruhani’ sees a jazz break swing next to another serving of seductive acid and soon, in true Hidden Spheres style, - things get real intense real fast. Finally,‘Believe’ rounds things off with a cool-off of lazy keys and loose drums centred around a dreamy saxophone.

As Ociya, hardware freaks Tin Man (Johannes Auvinen) and Patricia (Max Ravitz), come together in unholy acid matrimony on a definitive double-album, Powers Of Ten. We know both sides well. Over a prolific run of records for Acid Test and his own Global A, Auvinen has expounded upon the promise of “Nonneo” (recently named one of Resident Advisor’s 2010-19: Tracks Of The Decade), unearthing new, emotional vistas from the Roland TB-303. Ravitz, meanwhile, matches Tin Man in studio ethic, establishing himself as one of North America’s hardware masters on records for Ghostly and Opal Tapes. What we couldn’t have predicted is how well the parts merge. Cuts like “Ghost Moons” channel the hazy IDM legacies of the past, while “Hopeful Galaxy” mixes a plaintive Rhodes motif with a hopeful 303 line for the perfect “tears on the dance floor” cut. The track titles on Power Of Ten— a perfect melodic techno LP generously spread across two records—are celestially minded ("Gravity Knots,” “Star Scraping") and indeed, the cosmic metaphor is apt or the newly-formed duo.

Out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as "This Is Why" EP. The A-Side kicks off with the discoish banger "Q&H" and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by Lorenz Rhode - not only famous for his releases on Compost Records or Exploited but also for taking Detroit-Swindle-Liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. The deeper side of Lukas' sound is represented on the B-Side. Starting with edgy piano chords, "Solid/Fragile (Coexistence)" introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track.
