It's album time for Sam Goku aka Robin Wang: "Things We See When We Look Closer" is the second album from the Chinese-German artist, releasing nearly two years after his debut album "East Dimensional Riddims", that combined traditional Asian instruments and field recordings with his own modern take on dance music that focuses on fluid rhythms, beautiful melodies and ambient haze.

Based in Munich, things came together naturally with Permanent Vacation as a label for the DJ and producer. Not only sharing the same hometurf, but also a certain eclectic approach on music. After two EPs on the label, that found their way into DJ Sets from the likes of Ben Ufo & Four Tet, DJ Voices, Call Super and many more, Robin is drawing ever wider circles with his new album.

On eleven tracks he is refining his unique approach in his productions, probably described best as a deeply nature-rooted and aethereal sound from twinkling ambience over bright, bouncy kickdrums to shuffling breaks. Robin is hunting for the bigger picture by taking a closer look. Finding new life in the different microcosms and gaining new perspectives on things by switching the angle and developing a meditative and psychedelic swirl.

Following up on the success of House Of Riviera released in 2019, Mona Musique releases House Of Riviera Volume 2 curated by label head Nick V, a compilation that pays homage to forgotten gems of the classic Italian House scene, circa 1991-1994. 9 tracks from the artists and record labels that were central to this seminal era of House music, including two never released cuts from Ricky Montanari, Davide Ruberto and Ivan Iacobucci. In the early 1990s, Italy hosted one of the most prolific scenes in the burgeoning world of House music. Whilst the majority of Europe was only just beginning to digest the arrival of this new musical genre born in the US, Italian clubs, DJs and labels were hot on the heels of their counterparts in the already established scenes of New York and London. The clubs of the Adriatic coast, also known as the Italian Riviera, were full every weekend, hosting the major US and UK Djs of the time, but also seasoned resident DJs that had been honing their trade since the early 80s. By the early 90s, Italian House music was regularly exported around the world with labels such as UMM, MBG, Flying, Palmares, DFC, Oversky, Zippy, D:Vision, Irma - and its sublabels Antima and Calypso, releasing tracks inspired by the original New York House and Garage sound, but with a very different, unique and emotional take. This was the specific aesthetic that was to become the House sound of the Riviera, the soundtrack to the golden era of Italian House music. With all releases between 1992 and 1994, House Of Riviera Vol. 2 unites a selection of 9 tracks that encapsulates the atmosphere, the energy and creativity that reigned during that era. Including 2 previously unreleased tracks from Ricky Montanari and Davide Ruberto, and Ivan Iacobucci, both in the vaults since 1992, the compilation spans the different shades of the genre : from classic deep vocal house by Ricky Montanari and Sound Set, to the more dubbier late night dance floor cuts by Workin’ Happily and Night Communication, with Mental Detector and More Heavy Soul bringing some well chosen disco samples to their contributions, without forgetting the characteristic deep Italian dream house style by Green Baize. Artists featured are iconic producers and DJs from the day : Ricky Montanari & Davide Ruberto, Alex Neri & Marco Baroni, Ivan Iacobucci, Workin’ Happily and More Heavy Soul.

One of the keys to Nervous’ longevity has been our willingness to take chances on new producers and new sounds. As long as a track contains the essence of House, we encourage producers to experiment with combining House with other musical genres. And if the results are creative and fruitful enough we are always ready, willing and able to create a new sub label and logo to go along with a fresh sound.

In the 90’s we felt a movement toward House being juiced with Jazz elements and we created the Nervous Chill Sub-label. Now all these years later we are once again seeing a new appreciation for the sounds, flow and energy of Jazz on the part of some of the world’s premier House Music Producers, and so we are embarking on a re-launch of the Nervous Chill imprint.

Onboard for the re-launch is the very talented and dynamic producer Felipe Gordon with the two tracks “Elisa” and “Resonant.” Both songs feature the legendary musician Paul Shapiro, who has played a key musical role in many of House Music’s most celebrated tunes including “The Whistle Song” for which he supplied the eponymous “whistle.” “Elisa” features an uplifting and bouncy rhythmic vibe that’s topped and energized with Paul’s jazzy flute, while “Resonant” has a deeper and slightly more aggressive tone that’s propelled with Paul hypnotic and free wheeling sax instrumentation.

States Of Bliss’ is the next album by Fred P, his third full length in the last year, following ‘Oasis’ and ‘Abstract Soul’ and the most expansive of the three. " Mystical, minimal house offering hailing from Cape Town, South Africa in the mid-2000s. RockArt was a hybrid-electro performance art project that emerged during a golden age for electronic music in the Cape, the post-Y2K scene spurred by the maverick African Dope record label that marked the rise of cult outsiders Felix Laband and Tudor Watkins Jones. Harnessing the combined powers of seasoned jazz musicians Hilton Schilder and Alex van Heerden, RockArt cooked up a signature futurist formula laced with musical bows and voice samples that was unmistakably indigenous. Intended as a companion to the group's Future Cape album of 2006, House was conceived as a long-form soundscape of tribal electronica that could stand alone on its own merits but also provide a backdrop for live instrumental improvisation. The project was shelved following the untimely death of Alex van Heerden in 2009 but emerges from Hilton Schilder's archive as a reminder of the duo's profound collaborative alchemy.

Running at 28 minutes over two sides of 12-inch maxi cut at 45rpm, House is available as a boutique vinyl offering with a psychedelic art sleeve pressed in a first edition of 300 copies."

Devin Brahja Waldman is a New York saxophonist, drummer, synthesizer player and composer who leads the group Brahja. Waldman has accompanied his aunt, poet Anne Waldman, since the age of ten. Waldman is a co-founding member of Radical Reversal, Diva of Deva Loka, and Notable Deaths. He has performed with Patti Smith, William Parker, Nadah El Shazly, Malcolm Mooney, Thurston Moore, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Charles Hayward, Luke Stewart and Yoshiko Chuma. Waldman is also a member of NYC's Heroes Are Gang Leaders (led by poet Thomas Sayers Ellis and saxophonist James Brandon Lewis), of Sam Shalabi's Land of Kush, and of the Norwegian hardcore group MoE.

As a youngster, Waldman was taken under the wing of avant-garde giant Paul Bley. Along with Anne Waldman and cousin Ambrose Bye, Waldman is a co-producer for Fast Speaking Music -a NYC poetry and music label which has released recordings with Amiri Baraka, Meredith Monk, William Parker, Laurie Anderson, Eileen Myles, CAConrad, Fred Moten, Daniel Carter, Clark Coolidge, Thurston Moore, Joanne Kyger and many others.

On behalf of re:discovery records, it is with great excitement that we announce the joint compilation from Facil and Prototype 909 called 'Excerpts from 1993-1995.

As most know, Prototype 909 was a legendary acid techno act from New York that toured the circuit as one of the premier rave acts from America during the 1990s.

Facil was a side small duo project that only made one album and a few appearances on a handful of compilations. The A-side features two Facil tracks. 'Tree Frog' has an amazingly robotic ambient dub electro sound. A killer track that will have dancefloor patrons staring at each other with blank wtf faces. '700x7' completes the A-side with ambient dub gem. Floaty and airy melodics balance out a devastating 808 drum beat.

This is ambient dub in the truest example. The b-side then offers two spacey trance beauties with 'Transit' & 'Planet S' from Prototype 909. The EP finishes with more space junk ambient dub with 'Same Place' by Facil.

Overall, a great look into the window of early to mid-1990s New York ambient dub.

Musta presents an elaborate six track EP project, titled 'Tamburi Parlanti' which translates to 'Talking Drums' in English. The body of work marks a turning point in his career to make more than electronic music, and delves into a plethora of live music and field recordings recorded for the EP, ranging from polyrhythmic tribal drum-patterns to Afro-funk bass chords, congas and jazz-keyboard, played by local musicians as well as himself.

Musta's love for music began during his 11 years spent living in the Dominican Republic. This encounter of Latin rhythms started the musical genre contamination that to this day distinguishes his productions. In this EP, like the rest of his releases, the music is diverse, tribal and hypnotic. Respectful of the past yet constantly innovative. This love of the past and future has led him to release edits and originals on staple labels such as Nervous Records, Samosa Records.

Music aside the EP artwork has significant meaning, the mask shown is that of the ancient Mamuthone icon of Sardinian folklore which goes back further than 2000 years, defined as a representation of the collective soul of Sardinia, the ancient ritual of the Mamuthone creatures is that of a rhythmic dance where 12 of the creatures dance together, representing the 12 months of the year. With this theme, Musta aims to connect the dots of this pastime tradition into the EP, reflecting it visually as well as through the music itself.

"Tamburi Parlanti EP is a collection of songs that I've made myself around the world, recording and collaborating with various musicians of many different nationalities. The music reflects my musical path in recent years which draws strong inspiration from afro-funk and latin disco from the 70s and 80s. My intent is to create music that presents a journey between the hottest Latin sounds, over to more African disco rhythms.

Heist Recordings has been pushing the envelope for house music since day one and we’re always on the lookout for artists that represent our vision on electronic music. Our next guest on the label fits that profile and more. He is the embodiment of modern-day electronic funk and a true wizard on the keys: Atlanta raised cool guy Byron the Aquarius.

Byron has a solid history on the label: He remixed Parker Madicine back in 2017 and did a mad solo on the 2019 released Dam Swindle track ‘The life behind things’. We’ve done some shows together and stayed in touch while Byron was working together with Jeff Mills on his 2020 jazz crossover record ‘Ambrosia’ on Axis. Now, after a solid string of releases on labels like Shall not Fade and Purveyor Underground, Byron is making his solo appearance on Heist. His ‘Akira’ EP goes from dark basement grooves to dreamy broken beats and features a remix by New York dance music wizard Kush Jones.

The Akira EP kicks off with ‘I love yo’. In this track, Byron decides to leave his keys at home and goes in deep with a moody club workout. ‘I love yo’ is a track that juxtaposes dreamy samples with rough percussion and vocal chops with a clear nod to the work of Mr. G. The melody is mellow, but don’t be deceived; clever drum programming and plenty of sub take this track into the club vibe just the way Byron likes it: warm, hazy and sexy AF.

Byron is not known for delivering straightforward house tunes, but when he does deliver them, he does it in style. Enter ‘Get up’; the A2 of the EP. There’s everything we love about house music: smart vocal chops, driving percussion, classic house keys and a booming sub to get you bumping to this beat.

The B-side sees Byron up the tempo and take a deep dive into bass territory with ‘Love’. In this track, there’s lush pads running over a percussive broken beat and chopped R ’n B vocals to add some serious sex appeal. It’s deceptively simple and clean but ever so catchy, which clearly shows Byron’s prowess as an electronic music producer.

Going back to classic house mode, we’ve got ‘Success’: A spoken word house track that fits right in with the classics. Byron sets the mood with some bumpy key-and synth work while brainstorming about originality and blackness throughout the track. Even though the message underneath might be a serious one, Byron succeeds in delivering this in a fun, uplifting way that never gets pretentious or divisive.

The EP finishes with a remix by New Yorker Kush Jones. This is an artist who understands how to build a groove. He could take you anywhere from house to juke, footwork and techno, which is exactly why he’s been getting so much love for his music recently. Kush is an artist who sees no boundaries in his music and still manages to create his own sonic universe. His remix of ‘I love yo’ takes a dreamy approach with soft chords running over an electronic groove with a pure and improvised feel. All elements fit together perfectly and it’s the clever ad-hoc programming and arrangement that suck you into his unbounded world from the first beat.

This surprise 12" for the fast-rising Purveyor Underground Ltd label is therefore a welcome surprise. On title track 'Miss Nice' Vichas wraps jazzy guitar, keys and vocal samples around a chunky, loopy, filter-sporting deep house groove. Demarkus Lewis successfully takes the track up a notch or two on his accompanying remix, before Vichas doffs a cap to the jazz-fired Chicago boompty sounds of Greens Keepers and Mike Dixon on 'Monday Jazz'. The Come Connect mix of that track, which rounds off the EP, is a pleasingly bumpy, bass-heavy and energetic revision that's crying out for peak-time plays.

‘There is no Acid in this House’ is Hieroglyphic Being’s stunning third solo album on Soul Jazz Records, a resolute and powerful statement of Jamal Moss’s raw, vital, pioneering, Afro-Futurist electronic (dance) music.

On his new album Moss once-again draws upon the vast scope of experimentation that has defined Chicago’s musical universe over the last half a century – from the birth of house music with the pioneers Ron Hardy, Marshall Jefferson, Lil Louis and others to the radical avant-garde jazz legacy of the city - The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, The Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra.

Chicago’s musical universe continues to push-further forward today with artists such as Hieroglyphic Being, Angel Bat Dawid, Makaya McCraven, and labels such as International Anthem label and Hieroglyphic Being’s own Mathematics, all continuing to explore radical new music while drawing upon the city’s decidedly Afro-futurist lineage.

Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, remains at all-times a radical one-off musical explorer, a resolute pioneer of an avant-garde dance music aesthetic taking lineage from the founding fathers of acid house such as Ron Hardy and Adonis, and pushing the musical form to its own limits, adding his own harder almost industrial edge to this unique sound, which Moss sometimes describes as ‘Outsider House’ or, referencing the earlier avant-garde musical resident and pioneer, Sun Ra - ‘Rhythmic Cubism’ and ‘Cosmic Be-Bop’.

Hieroglyphic Being’s music crosses many boundaries and has led to remixes of a wide and diverse list of artists from St Vincent to Hans-Joachim Roedelius (the pioneering German electronic composer and member of Cluster), King Gizzard and the Lizard Gizzard to Adonis and many more. In similar fashion his music has appeared on Ghostly/Spectral, Warp, Ninja, Axis and his own Mathematics Recordings.

Jamal Moss first began working with Soul Jazz Records in 2015 and has released two solo albums (‘The Acid Documents’ in 2015, ‘The Red Notes’ in 2018) as well as a third album under the guise of Africans with Mainframes (with Nolan Reusse in 2017).

The title tune unfurls with chunky kickdrums and a chopped-up, speedy vocal sample that winds between a thwacking bassline. ASA 808's new album Boy, crush is a very personal inner journey as well as a call to fight and free ourselves from toxic masculinity. ASA 808 invites listeners to expand their views of the gender spectrum. The title Boy, crush plays with the term "boy crush" and is meant as an encouragement for all men to "collectively crush manhood" with all its toxic traits and consequences:

It took me a long time to unlearn so much sexism and queerphobia and find my inner queer child again to let it grow, bloom and shine. I dream of a world in which men emasculate themselves. St Petersberg's Dobro label is noted not just for the quality and playability of its funky house and disco re-edits, but also for its value for money. This, their seventh release, is another great example, with no less than six floorfillers included on one 12", each bringing their own individual mood to the table. 'Flowers Festival' from Sun Rhythms has throbbing organs and fruity keys, topped off by a gorgeous Russian vocal. DJ Merci's 'Timetable' goes for chunky rave pianos and Fairlight stabs, lending it an 80s Italo-disco feel, before Ground Plane Aerial's 'Transition SP' closes the side with slap bass and stripped down house vibe that echoes some of Roule Records' more accessible moments. Side two VIGI's 'I Am You', is the most memorable of the whole package, with its idiosyncratic female vocal weaving a magical spell around the listener, before we finish off with a double whammy of Monny Me's swirling stringfest 'The Name Of The Game' and the parping horns and strutting groove of Ugly Frankie's 'Free Alcohol Shit', the latter including a bewitching and unexpected piano solo. Great work all round.

Four slices of deep house with a distinctly laid back, R&B flavour to them. 'Brandii' kicks us off in suitably relaxed manner, gorgeous harmonies and female and male voices adding to the irresistible groove and subtle layer of strings. 'Black Sunshine' is faster but retains the light touch approach, whereas 'Chuckii' is built around a sturdier four-to-the-floor kick, although the vocal content is still silky smooth. Closing track 'No!' is woozier and more dreamlike, with almost p-funk synth lines, though the Earl's arrangement leaves the percussive undercarriage that carries the track plenty of room to thrive in too.

Stólar label boss Philipp Priebe delivers his new album ‘Apparent Calm Palms’ this October, joining the roster of Mainz/Hamburg, Germany’s Feuilleton. Berlin-based artist Philipp Priebe has been steadily making his mark on the contemporary deep hazy house and leftfield electronica scene over the past few years with a series of releases on his own Stólar imprint. Here though we see him deliver his second album following his debut LP ‘The Being Of The Beautiful’ released on Japan’s IL Y A Records back in 2014. Feuilleton is the brainchild of Chris Gruber (Fossar) and Tim Eder and since 2018 has unveiled material from the duo themselves, RR (René Raabe), Snad, Gari Romalis, Melina, Jakob Seidensticker and more. Throughout the ‘Apparent Calm Palms’ LP Priebe delivers a concoction of styles and sounds cohesi-vely fused together to form the bigger concept which is he tells us is ‘’an album about small towns and villages and the needs and desires that brings one night out in clubs. The transport/travel, the preparty, all the things that you had to do, when you are not directly living in the big party places, but still want to have a decent night out, away from your usual suspects.’’. An ‘80s dance classic from the legend John Rocca, gets a fresh new take from Aussie edit king Late Nite Tuff Guy alongside a remastered reissue of Chicago house royalty Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk’s 1987 Hot House Piano Remix. The main man behind jazz funk favourites, Freeez, John Rocca took to the studio in ’84 and whipped up an electro-fied steamer in the form of ‘I Want It To Be Real’. Tantalizing synthwork, beefed up basslines, gated snares and pure ‘80s vocals, it’s a melting pot of influences with a catchiness that caused a serious stir. This special double header of remixes kicks off with a brand new mix from Late Nite Tuff Guy. After having met Mathias ‚Kapote‘ Modica, creative mind behind Germany’s well respected Toy Tonics label three years ago, East London born Cody Currie understood Kapote and his international TT Crew have the perfect understanding for his talents and share the same visions and so Cody joined the TT crew and released three EPs with the German label. Now finally he steps up to present his highly anticipated debut album ‘Lucas’. The 14 track LP is set for release 21 October 2022 with a string of pre-singles to drop until then. The roots of Cody’s artistry runs deep, hailing from Leytonstone in East London by his father a fashion designer and his Spanish mother a music writer, it was inevitable that Cody would follow suit in the world of creativity. Currie’s keen ear and penchant for retro disco licks, chopped keys, and broken beats have landed him also with 1 off releases on other notable labels like Razor-N-Tape, Dan Shake’s Shake Records. The past few years has found Cody in the midst of a fresh, unique buzz taking over Europe, predominantly in Berlin and London, as he bridges the gap between jazz and house music with his energetic DJ sets, talented instrumental skills and effortless swag. Playing the big Toy Tonics Jam happening all over Europe and similar to other artists on the TT label ‘connecting the dots’ between live and electronic music has garnered Cody a range of support in the press and radio world with fans including Pete Tong, Rolling Stone, Jamz Supernova, Mixmag and Gilles Peterson, with some journalists describing him as ‘The Tom Misch of jazzy house’. This debut album, like his EPs, represents the new essence of jazz burgeoning out of London’s youth scene of today. Cody doesn't use any samples, only live instruments, vocals and great chord combinations, a nod towards his music school studies in London before moving over to Berlin. Like most of the other artists on Toy Tonics and similar to Kapote himself, Cody comes from playing jazz piano and playing in bands and combines this real musician’s attitude and knowledge with his skills as an electronic producer and extremely talented DJ/selector. This combination of background and skills create that unique sound that Cody (and many Toy Tonics artists) have. On Lucas, Cody defines his work by enjoying the collaborative process with other talented artists such as Eliza Rose and Ziggy (Freedom Zeitgeist Energy Exchange), as well as some of Cody’s close personal friends like Jitwam, Ally McMahon, Andreas Kon and more. Currie comments on the album saying: “Lucas LP is a collection of tracks which I've either done myself around the world recording in different places, or collaborating with my friends. The music reflects my enjoyment of the musical process and I'd say it’s inspired a lot by George Duke and Frank Zappa, the disco and funkier stuff from the 70s and 80s. Some of the tracks are quite deep and introspective, whilst other ones are more fun and silly like ‘That Stick’. Small Great Tunes Vol. 2 is another strong compilation of original tracks (three on each side) by artists of the Small Great Things. label. The record starts with “Something Hot”, a collaboration of Marc Brauner & Luca Olivotto, a truly hot dancefloor shaker based on groovy basslines and chord stabs, spiced up with vocals and saxophone chops. A2, “Malf Hoon” by UC Beatz, is a warm sounding, smooth house track with a rave-like bass sound and long, progressive percussion buildups. The A-side culminates with “Down Mode” by Lis Sarroca, an 80s-inspired bassy house track, which is slightly darker and suited for heavier sets. The B side starts with “House Nation” by Marcus Raute, a straight-forward house banger in the tradition of the genre. You get groovy piano chords, a strong house bassline, vocal “yeahs” etc. A simply great tune with a lot of power. “Dorado” by Kid Simius is a dreamy and slightly eclectic tune with moody Juno sounds, subtle guitar solos and a beautiful storytelling voice in the breaks. “From Back In The Day” by Habibi Grooves, the last track on the B-side is a deep tune with techy percussions and moody synthesizer loops. The heavy sounding rhythm section in this one makes sure it’s distinctive in any house music set. “Small Great Tunes Vol. 2”, the fourth vinyl record by the Small Great Things. label featuring 6 original tracks is surely a must-have for DJs and lovers of house music. Delivering a unique variety of bangers and tooly tracks it will prove to be very useful in sets and boutique record collections alike.

Avnu (uk) follows up his fantastic recent single on Ellum Audio with a long-awaited and hugely adventurous new album, ‘Tough To Love But Worth The Effort’. Avnu (uk) is based on the East Coast of Scotland and has been deeply immersed in music for twenty plus years. He has a love of everything from rock, soul and blues to disco, electro, techno, trance and rave. All of that comes out in his innovative sounds, which range from sweat-inducing club tracks to hooky and feel-good grooves. 'Surprise!' opens with a glossy electro beat and shimmering 80s synths that set the tone for the whole record. 'I Love You' brings a French touch influence with plenty of filtered synth loops and crisp drums under a soulful vocal, then 'Supaflake' cuts loose on an old-school funk vibe with nods to early Daft Punk. This most colourful of records plays out through the likes of sombre cosmic techno offering 'Bad Karma,' the longing chords and heavy-hearted electronica of 'Odyssey Jam' feat Mariel Ito and distorted bass of 'Phlegm In The Street' which comes with laser-like synths and menacing vocals. The future styles continue on 'Yo E, Check This Out' which collides jungle breakbeats with brain-melting sine waves, while 'Wilkie' is a moment to catch your breath amongst bright and shiny synths and deeper drums that suspend you in a celestial sky. 'Proud You’re Mine' is a perfect electro-dance-pop gem that has potential to be a summer festival anthem and the title track closes down with six minutes of enchanting and mystical synth lines and hypnotic drums. ‘Tough To Love But Worth The Effort’ is a spectacularly broad and accomplished album that lives in a world of its own.

A central theme in the life and work of the British DJ pioneer Greg Wilson, UK electro is a page turner. With the seminal Street Sounds compilation from 1984 (please see Greg’s blog for the whole story) being the beacon, there are still a few overlooked corners. Xxxo by Equip is one of them. Originally intended to be part of said release and produced by Greg Wilson, Martin Jackson and Andy Connell (like most of the comp), it was turned down at the time. Sounding like a like a proto -house template with a dash of Klein & MBO, it wasn’t considered strong enough at the time, but found it’s way to the public as a one-sided 12“ in 2006, it felt like a brand-new track as it perfectly correlated with the electro influenced underground dance music mainstream at the time (Chicken Lips et al.). Here it is again: remastered, rekindled and unreduced cut to 45rpm. For full disclosure please see the liner notes on the back cover. Pressed and released for the first time on this planet though are the ICA Beats Pt 1 & Pt 2. Intended to be backing tracks for a UK Electro live appearance in August ´84, they haven’t seen the light of day until now. Both Restored and re-edited with some help of label owner Gerd Janson, they are fierce examples of the sound at the time. Sitting between rhythm tracks and experimental drum machine compositions (and a short greeting from their creators’ other project Syncbeat), it makes you wonder how one could have lived for so long without them. The history of the past enables you to dream of the future.

His maiden incursion on the label, "Bombo", will not only be released in digital shape as per usual for the rest of our catalogue, but also in 12" vinyl format - with the special and endearingly peculiar trait that each cover is hand-designed by Chrisse Kunst and Madmotormiquel himself, making these collectible one-off pieces of art to adorn your shelves with.

Opening cut and lead-single "Bombo" sets the wheels in motion at a slow and steady rate, progressively fleshing out its initially stripped-back funkiness with a polychromatic webwork of tribal rhythms, spectral synth murk and frizzling machine talk. The quirky "Kohiko" serves up a mischievous buffet of further syncopated moves and chirpy chimes pouring in cascades as a sturdy bass unfalteringly dictates the momentum.

Shifting the scope to no-nonsense floor-busting objectives in its first stages, "Timezone Chaser" slowly evolves from sheer DJ functionality to jazzed-up abstraction through perfectly inlaid superimpositions of processed clarinets, dubbed-out drums and an overall hazy sound design to satisfyingly lose yourself in. EP closer "Rodrigues" opts for a more jagged approach, as it fuses skittish snares and hats at the fore with deep and vaporous pad tapestries in the background, resulting in the kind of heavily FX-layered, acid-leaning sleepwalker that'll keep the dancers' legs in motion even though their eyes seem shuttered.

Born and raised between Singapore and Germany and now based in Berlin, Mona Yim spent time bouncing between the clubs of London, Berlin, and Paris while honing her craft, culminating in a recent remix for DJ Seinfeld’s ‘Tell Me One More Time’ on Ninja Tune. Now readying her debut solo release on Rekids, Mona Yim delivers two dreamy house cuts for the imprint, backed with a pair of remixes from label-boss Radio Slave. Leading the release, ‘Gotta Do This, Gurl’ brings crispy, bouncing drums alongside moody pads and subtle vocal chops, building up to an emotive breakdown. Radio Slave beefs up the drum patterns with breakbeats for his remix, adding additional atmospheric FX to existing melodic elements for a chunky, driving track. ‘Dots Obsession’ sees floaty percussion, gentle synth work and vocals working in tandem to craft a soft yet evocative house jam.
