Romania’s Victor Stancov returns to his own Simple Tracks with its second release, entitled ‘Bagnols Shuffle’ and accompanied by a remix from Cynosure’s Mike Shannon. Victor Stancov launched his Simple Tracks imprint in 2020 with an EP from himself, featuring a remix from Perlon trio Wareika. Perfectly setting the tone for the imprint which leans towards slick, refined house grooves with a micro house twist. Here the story continues with the label’s second release once again retaining this aesthetic and keeping things bouncy and playful. Title-track ‘Bagnols’ Shuffle’ leads the release, merging shuffled drums and glitched out percussion with fluttering stab sequences and oft, billowing pad lines. ‘Nothing Wrong With Going Back’ follows and brings a more loop-driven feel courtesy of driving rides, rolling snares and bumpy bass running alongside cinematic strings and bright stabs. Opening the flip-side is ‘Georgie’s Units’, a dubbed-out house groove fuelled by echoing chords, rumbling toms and crunchy drums. Lastly Cynosure head honcho rounds out the release with his take on ‘Georgie’s Units’, treating us to a typically twisted take on the original with mind bending modulations, intricately nuanced bass tones, whirling synths and skippy hats throughout.

For their second release, Oath welcomes Berlin-based producer Moomin; who brings forward a three-track EP entitled ‘The Snoofer’. Alongside three original tracks, UK producer Seb Wildblood also provides a remix for ‘For Willow'. The title track, ‘The Snoofer’, wades through squelching percussion and deep swinging grooves as underlying synth-lines remain marching alongside locked kicks and fluctuating bass. Arriving at ‘For Willow’, Moomin delivers a hazy, serene Hang Drum melody that tumbles and fades away, opening space for wispy pads and steady drum furrows. Multiple label head and mainstay UK producer, Seb Wildblood, known for his distinct house style; offers up a soothing remix for ‘For Willow’. Steeped in warmth, the track sways back and forth from the blanket of pads to the syncopated rhythms of the instrumentation. For ‘Breathe’, we see Moomin layering arpeggios and live drum cadences that seem to melt and mold together, floating and falling yet unwavering and firm.

Skylax Armagnac's darling who released his first EP just a year ago, which had an international resonance with rave reviews from Resident Advisor, Bicep, Chaos in the CBD, Peach or even soul clap. Rightly some saw it as a resurgence, a modernized version of 90s New York house, silky and elegant in the Bobby Konders, Mr Fingers way. For this new EP, with fantastic remixes of the brilliant Simoncino, our French prodigy is inspired by the beginnings of trance on the title song (and title of the ep by the way) "The world as we know it (masterclass mix)", UK dub and rave influences, as on some Nu Groove releases (notably the first joey beltram) - the lead vocal sample comes from a speech in which Noam Chomsky describes the United States as a violent country and hard. According to the author "If this piece says something, I believe it is that the music and the party should not serve to forget the problems of the world, but rather to find the strength, the resources, the inspiration to solve them." On "Oh La Musique" Armagnac used the sound of his neighbors as a voice sample ! Indeed, during this incredibly complicated period that we are living in, confinement due to the devastating effects of covid 19, one of his neighbors played music really loudly and for 20 minutes ignored the other neighbors who were screaming "oh oh, the music" through the window. "Turning this moment of irritation into a sample to the glory of the music strikes me as pretty funny." Still according to the author. On B1, it’s a house masterclass lesson by the phenomenal & ultra prolific Simoncino, but do i need to remind you how much italians are masters in their way of paying homage to all the best house music that has ever been created & produced ? Good taste is often on their side ! The red zone club is a tense and incredibly effective mix that can be enjoyed either on a house or techno dancefloor, it is clearly a banger. B2 saw the italian master offers us a beautiful ambient mix. And to conclude "On My Own" is according to Armagnac "a title that speaks of the trust that one can place in one's fellow human beings and of emancipation." A superb EP that adds to the long list of must-haves from Skylax Records.

Luv Shack Records is celebrating 10 years with a set of classic tracks from the back catalogue getting remix treatments for todays dancefloors on the Retroscope 01 EP.

The opening track is a remix of Space Echo's "Come Back Home" by none other than Norwegian producer extraordinaire Prins Thomas. His 11 minute revision of the 2014 hit balances countless layers of funky guitar riffs, moogish leads und meticulously layered disco drums, resulting in an ever evolving trippy cosmic masterpiece.

Hot on the Heels of Prins Thomas' remix, Rotciv takes Rising Seed´s "Train to Kismarton" to Italo town, adopting only the eerie western guitars from the original, whilst building a wonky 80s sound carpet of analogue arpeggios and punchy DMX drums around it.

The Golden Boogie Connection delivers their super lush rework of Space Echo´s "Soul Power" with a tight, organic groove, witty extra instruments such as funk guitars, disco strings and beautifully light footed vocals. What a package!

Next up, Luv Shack newcomer Endrik Schroeder takes on "Wake Up" by Neon Amish & Space Echo. His remix blends the synth goodness of the original with powerful disco-house drums, unleashing a hi-energy vibe thats both uplifting and nostalgic, once encorporating the vocals of Tarek Farwati on the original remix and leaving even more room for the synth pads on the dub remix.

With "Ridin' High" perhaps being one of the most classic Luv Shack tracks, Lee Stevens takes on the task of remixing himself as Rising Seed, opting for a laid back dub house style with bonus pan flutes, ghostly Melotron strings and a ton of spring reverb.

“(Got To) Move On / Rosa Da Ribeira” continues the series of edits and remi¬xes from Stefano Tirone aka S-Tone Inc.’s latest studio album, “Body & Soul” (2020, Sccd/lp493); this 7” is also a preview of the forthcoming release of a project named “Body & Soul - The Disco Experience” where Stefano, with the help of some of his faithful collaborators, reinvents and transforms into a new boogie disco groove dress the entire “Body & Soul” LP. Both songs here combine nu-disco with late ’70s funk / soul / dance, Stefa¬no’s first real ‘musical love’: a way therefore to underline his unconditional passion for the music that represented his youth and, at the same time, the awareness of the inevitability of the modern times we live in. “Got To (Move On)” is an up-tempo song with a leading pulsating bass that sees the participation of Afra Kane, a Nigerian singer who has lived in Italy, England and Switzerland, and who gives ‘black’ shades to the songs with her splendid voice. “Rosa Da Ribeira”, sung by Toco with the additional backing vocals of Prisci¬la Ribas, Luzia Dvorek and Gui Hargreaves, shows off an exotic touch given by the Brazilian melodies and the Portuguese lyrics, and is further enriched by Gilberto Tarocco’s baritone sax and Randy Freeman’s trombone.

Sound Of Vast revisits The People In Fog ‘1977’ LP with a remix package featuring remixes from Rahaan, Satoshi Tomiie, Chida and Licaxxx.

"July 2021 saw DJ Sodeyama deliver his ‘1977’ album under the The People In Fog guise. Its a project which sees the Japanese Techno artist lean towards raw house and experimental sounds in contrast to the more techno-oriented material released under his own name. The album received critical acclaim from many leading publications and here Sound Of Vast offer up a remix package of some key cuts from the project. Chicago House legend Rahaan steps up first to remix ‘Mr. Dub’, delivering a typically disco-infused twist on the original via a wandering bass groove, resonant chimes, cowbell hooks and hypnotic synth melodies while the original’s vocal chant loops throughout the groove. Japan’s Satoshi Tomiie is up next to aptly remix ‘Less Is More’, taking a cue from the title the Tokyo-born producer and DJ delivers a reduced take on things, laying focus on spiraling dub echoes, stripped-back organic drums and subtle sub bass pulsations.

Opening the flip-side is ene Records boss and ESP Institute artist Chida who flips the switch on ‘Come To Me feat. Monkey Timers’, delivering seven-minutes of modulating arpeggio bass, saturated drums, acid bleeps and mind- altering synth textures. Tokyo Community Radio founder and a leading figure of the young generation with diversity Licaxxx then rounds out the release with her take on ‘Down The Drain feat. Sunga’, laying down a bouncy, dynamic drum groove and intricate vocal processing atop the original version’s squelchy acid line."

You can't say Shuray without saying Walle. As one of Leipzig's DJ teams of the moment, they play by merging into a synergistic unit with four arms, four ears, and two hearts. Their first joint release "International Licence" on Filburt's label O*rs sounds accordingly pleasantly balanced and mature. The two Distillery residents focus on a music genre that has unfortunately and unjustly received less attention lately: Deep House. The three original tracks are universally applicable due to their stripped-down, Detroit-inspired timeless sound. From the most underrated slot of the DJ craft, the warm-up, to the early morning hours: The 909's spellbinding, pumping force will do its job. On the remix duties is highly talented Lea Lisa from the Wolf Music fame. For her 303 Mental Remix she adds an irresistible acid bassline (quelle surprise) and creates probably the most peak time-affine tune of the whole EP. Shuray & Walles first extended player is a perfect example for reduced but clever arrangements and above all for the fact that the best ship is friendship.

Sound Of Vast welcomes the return of The Mole this November with his 'That Is Nice' EP, comprised of three typically twisted cuts from the Canadian-born Berliner.

Over the course of the past two decades Colin De La Plante, better know to most as The Mole, has unveiled numerous EP's, singles and albums via the likes of Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Slices Of Life and of course Sound Of Vast where he returns here following output in recent years from the likes of DJ Sodeyama as The People In Fog, Cinthie, Com Sin aka Cosmin TRG, Shinichiro Yokota and Akiko Kiyama from the Japanese imprint.

Opening the EP is 'Vetafit', laid out across seven a half minutes with bubbling metallic chimes, bumpy bass notes, crunchy drums and an amalgamation of intertwining plucked synth stabs. Title-track 'That Is Nice' follows, shifting focus to cut up funk licks, a walking bass line and tension building strings atop a dynamic, organic drum groove.

On the flip is '17 Day Parade' to conclude the EP, stripping things pack to punchy, modulating drums a wandering sub bass pulsations and warbling, intricately processed horns and stabs, once again we're treated to more weird and wonderful material from The Mole.

Needing no introduction, NYC-based Baltra rose with the lo-fi house scene and has become one of the most innovative producers to come out of it, constantly pushing for a fresh sound with use of organic vocals and cross-genre experimentation. Returning for a full record on Shall Not Fade for the first time since the hazy sounds of Rendezvous EP in 2019, Baltra's Dreaming Of A Disco EP focuses on impeccable instrumentals and infectious melodies.

The title track carries subtle manipulated vocalisations at the core of the melody which has a touch of romance and, later, just a hint of disco strings adding an 80s shimmer that explodes to the forefront in jangling guitar riffs. By the second number, "Imaginary Laughter", you know this record is party-ready - it is a slow build up of ecstasy, sugary sweet.

Languid keys create a woozy atmosphere in "Private Paradise", a track which is a glittering and understated anthem. EP closer "Sunset Jam" holds more disco influence, channeling Donna Summer into a modern style with tight vocal percussion and 303 stabs for a genre-melting climax.

Palms Trax signals the arrival of his new label Cwpt with ‘Petu’, a new single featuring South African vocalist, Nonku Phiri. Originally debuting in dub form during the Berlin-based DJ and producer’s set at The Music Locker as part of Grand Theft Auto Online, ‘Petu’ re-emerges here as a soulful collaboration, neatly complimented by a wide-eyed take from Masalo.

Initially written as a slow-heating instrumental to connect the various musical dots across a DJ set, Palms Trax nonetheless had a vocalist in mind throughout, a fresh voice to lend ‘Petu’ universality and energy. Introduced through mutual friend Esa, Johannesburg’s Nonku Phiri draws on her signature style influenced by vintage Afropop styles and folk traditions, delivering a smooth and vulnerable tale of desire. A few years ago, All Is Well visited his good friend Martin Iveson in the UK for a studio session. A few tracks were written in the analog lab but one especially stood out. It was the then unnamed Cosmos. A kind of Jean-Michel Jarre vs Norwegian Cosmic disco melting pot dictated by the odd nature of the main theme from the Korg Monopoly’s weird Paraphony, and rhythmically sustained by the Arp 2600 Bass line. The track was left to sleep on a hard drive for a few years but never forgotten. AIW decided to bring it back to life during the first confinement in the Spring, stripping it down to its essential message. It was a natural decision to bring it to Prins Thomas’s label Internasjonal via a common friend in Ivaylo Kolev, the label manager. Remixes comes courtesy of exile Norwegian via Berlin Telephones and label boss Prins Thomas. Both Martin Iveson and All Is Well have been releasing music since the mid 90s under different names, Martin as Atjazz and All Is Well as Fred Everything. All Is Well has been released on Drumpoet Community and Permanent Vacation."

The 4th release on Sofia by KiNK is all about warmth. The harmonies are deep, the instruments are muffled, the rhythms are humanised. Even when some of the tracks are getting a bit aggressive, they are not hurting, but giving the right amount of energy and surprise. This record is built from some of the live streams Strahil was doing during the pandemic lockdown in April. “101 Reasons” is a track with disco epic-ness and techno attitude. It captures KiNK’s dream of being on the sweaty floor again, surrounded by dancers, one big family, like it used to be. “Dreamer” is low key house music, with melodies, leaking between the notes and the rhythms are somehow derailing, but instead of chaos, you get that dreamy feeling like if you watch a ribbon in the sky. The phenomenal Dutch artist Frits Wentink delivers a tighter version of the track with his unique swing on the drums and extra chords, which uplift the track with new energy. The closing song “Set The Mood Right” is recorded with his usual collaborator Rachel Row on the vocals. It’s a very relaxed downtempo track, which takes an unexpected turn and it’s a perfect open end for the record. A warm record for the cold days.

3 Elements was a trio of UK producers who self-released ‘Somewhere Else’ in 1996. Their small discography shines amongst peers such as B12, Stasis and Nuron in ’90s electronica. One of the members, Andy Jaggers, has continued to release on Touchin’ Bass (Andrea Parker), For Those That Knoe (Derek Car, Carl Finlow) and his own label Pyramid Transmissions. Tevatron released ‘Nu-Tronik’ in 1998 on legendary Belgian label Re-load Records (Acid Kirk, Cold/Isar Logi Arnarsson) and has continued to release on Metrohm. We are happy to welcome UK-based producer Native Cruise on Slam City Jams. The guy was on our radar since his releases on No Bad Days and Fruit Merchant that easily combined house music with new-age synths, a wave/EBM touch and balearic sounds. His „Human Nature“ EP is no exception with five outstanding tracks that differ in tempo and vibe. The opener „Crew Talk“ is a percussion heavy tune with lots of cowbells, a funky DX7 bass line, deep pads and dramatic chords that build up and up towards the end. „Elsewhere” is the most housey track on this record, with four-to-the-floor 808s and bittersweet strings that burst out into euphoria. Closing down the A-side is „Fooled Again“, a balearic cut that feels like a day in the sun with it’s little synth blips and arps. On the flip we find the title track „Human Nature“ that might be the hidden jam on this EP. Hard hitting Linn Drums, digital synth bells and those haunting vocals we can’t get out of our heads. Finally we have „Not Long Now“ a perfectly atmospheric deep tune, that sits somewhere between ambient and reggaeton and will make fans of DJ Python more than happy.

After our inaugural release by STL we look to a long running UK based artist Soomro. Growing up in the W10 part of London, Honest Jon's was a stones throw away and Soomro's first proper musical eduction. At a young age he was absorbing and digging through various genres and artists like King Tubby, Pink Floyd & Miles Davis, then going onto experience first hand in his teens the 90's golden era of UK underground dance music, from listening to UK Garage artists like R.I.P. Productions and Tuff Jam at the Gas Club to Drum & Bass artists like Dillinja and Source Direct at the Blue Note. These experiences were the foundations that helped shape and influence what Shaun does musically till this day.

You cannot say Nu Groove without saying Burrell. The seminal New York House label that existed from 1988 until 1992 was at the helm of a sound that was as much traditional as it was transitional. Since the closure of the Paradise Garage in 1987 and before the „NYC House sound“ was well-defined and fenced, Nu Groove was a kaleidoscope and an amalgamation of everything that informed it until then: uptempo r&b, reggae, dub, disco, freestyle, techno, jazz, and the sound that was embossed by Larry Heard in Chicago that was so well picked up in the Big Apple, you name it. Ronald and Rheji Burrell provided its basis, first floor and roof. But that story has already been told by our dear friends from Rush Hour, including its most important chapters. But we are going to tell a new one. Rheji Burrell presents N.Y. House’N Authority & The Utopia Project. Twelve tracks split over two EPs on Running Back. Named „Out of Body Experience“ and „The ’V’EP“, it features all new music that feels like modern garments cut out of a classic cloth. Almost as if the Nu Groove would have never stopped. And that it is - at the risk of self-praise - all that old or new fans and also we could hope for. Two EPs full of deep-that-doesn’t rhyme-with-sleep house music, has simple, yet clever arrangements, features jazzy sounds, but snappy drums, merry melodies and glossy grooves. An overall joy to listen or dance to. The difference in both EPs is for the Burrell-die-hards and Nu-Groove-scientists to decide.
