Over the last two decades, 20syl has crafted a unique, hip-hop infused, electro musical universe. In 2019 rapper/producer 38 Spesh put together a compilation album to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a seminal year in Hip-Hop, 1994. It features the biggest names in the underground like Benny The Butcher, Conway, Rome Streetz, Eto, Flee Lord, Elcamino, Che Noir, Hus Kingpin, Daniel Son, and many more. Rochester, New York, February 25th, 2019 - 38 Spesh's buzz is running through the industry like a wild fire right now. While this MC/producer/entrepreneur is not some overnight success that just appeared on the scene, many music critics only became aware of him last year. In fact, Flour City recording artists like Eto, Pounds, and 38 Spesh have been out here delivering quality product for more than a decade. About 40 Winks:
No hay banda! (“there is no band”, Mulholland Dr. 2001) pretty much sums up where 40 Winks aims to go with its instrumental hip hop: meticulously chop and paste samples together, to create an atmosphere of beats and vibes which steps beyond unimaginative loops. 40 Winks hit the scene in 2002, with a whole slew of laidback beats. Eager to share their sound with the world, they released a couple of albums independently. The attention they got from this, allowed them to build with people from around the world. One of these independently released albums, More Than Loops, got reissued in Japan on Swamp Records, after that the ball kept rolling. On their first worldwide release, Extended Pleasure on Escapism Records (2005), they reached listeners well beyond the (instrumental) hip hop community with the song “Melancholia”. After appearances on compilations, like Weapons Of Hope on Little-D (2006), they got a chance to do their thing on the renowned label, Merck Records with Sound Puzzle (2007). All this led them back to Europe, where the German based Project: Mooncircle welcomed them with a spot on the compilation Heart On The Right Spot (2007) and a full album The Lucid Effect (2008). In 2009 they took some time off, doing solo stuff and remixes. In 2011 40 Winks is back with a double LP called It’s The Trip (2011) on Project: Mooncircle.

Smoke On Records presents: A.Z.’s 1991 solo release “Street Wise”on wax now for the first time, very limited edition!

Azie Faison is a former drug dealer who earned more than $100,000 a week selling cocaine in Harlem, New York, during the peak of America’s “War on Drugs”, between 1983-1990. AZ and his two other Harlem partners, Alpo and Rich Porter, were portrayed in the 2002 movie Paid in Full and a documentary titled Game Over.
AZ also gave an Interview to DjVlad TV to tell his story.
In 1987, an attempt to rob Faison’s stash house (place where he kept drugs or money) left 3 people dead and 3 seriously injured. He himself was shot nine times in the robbery attempt, but survived and left the drug game to embark on a mission to disavow his former life and steer youth away from the path he once chose. In 1989, he formed the rap group Mobstyle. In 1990, his friend Rich Porter and his little brother Donnell Porter were tragically murdered. In 1991, A.Z. recorded the track “What’s Going on Black” which focused on these issues. Alpo later confessed to the murder of Rich Porter. An article on the murder of Donnell Porter was featured on the January 30, 1990 New York Times.
