The mark that the late producer J Dilla left upon hip-hop during the 90s and early-to-mid 00s is undeniable, and his work with De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, and many more has long been cemented in the annals of hip-hop history. It was during his time as a member of seminal Detroit group Slum Village however that ranks as among his greatest. His work with rappers Baatin and T3 would be a strong influence upon
modern rappers like Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar, and earn widespread critical praise, and comparisons to other legendary groups like A Tribe Called Quest. In speaking retrospectively on their most famous album ""Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1"", The Roots' drummer Questlove has said of the release that it "single-handedly birthed neo-soul."

J Dilla has been gone for over 10 years now, and Slum Village has moved on from their time with the legendary beatsmith, recruiting new members along the way. Despite this, new Dilla compositions are still being discovered, and his legacy continues to be shared and celebrated with a modern hip-hop audience. Ne'Astra Music Group now presents a new compilation of rare Dilla material: Vol. 0. Ten tracks featuring the classic Slum
Village lineup of Dilla on vocals and production, with Baatin & T3 also on the mic, collected by modern SV member Young RJ from unreleased material and demos recorded between 1994 and 1997. The knowledgable hip-hop head may recognize key tracks from the circulated EPHCY Sessions, while others have never seen the light of day. A piece of hip-hop history that would have otherwise wallowed in obscurity, until now.

His ability to bear his imperfections and contradictions makes TYRON an album that is the antithesis of a culture of purity. Tooth Choir’s beats range from the acid house bang of “Turn It Up! (ft. Cal Rips)” to the piano dream state of the closer “Can’t Stop Thinking Bout My Baby,” in which E.U goes galactic for 20 minutes of purely-bared soul. “End Of Time” sounds like Jungle Wonz with the ions reversed, some sort of Chicago House-indebted nightmare funk. “Hey Mom” and “Untitled (2 Much)” dig into a post-punk and wave angle, evocative of everything from Robert Hood and Sleeparchive to Joy Division and other reverb scroungers. Sir E.U compliments this fully, with a surprising range of melody and bizarro hooks, as in the demented pop highlights “mua” and “How Much Longer (Until We Go Get Em).” The sheer sonics of his voice and breadth of his expression, which he is manipulating and re-inventing constantly throughout Bop 3, are wonderful on their own, but Sir E.U is also straight up one of the greatest rappers doing it today; his styles and flows are constantly stunning, and each EP or track release via his own channels becomes a fountain of inspiration for anybody rapping right now. You can hear E.U in many rappers today, well beyond his local Washington DC. Bop 3 is a full-length exploration of the potent duo of Sir E.U + Tooth Choir, in sync to a serious degree, making some of the wildest rap music imaginable.

Shylow is a DJ, producer and MC from Durham, Canada. “Please Listen To My Demos” first released in Canada on very limited cassette only back in the year 2000.
Shylow has a reputation for putting on high energy live performances; bringing down the house countless times solo, and has shared the stage with many underground artists such as Cage, Yakballz, Ill Bill, Aceyalone, Boot Camp Click, Mr.Lif, Camu Tao, Red Clay and Jedi Mind Tricks.
Also records as half of the group First Division. along with his counterpart Expertise, and is the founding member of The Bomb Shelta Association, a crew of artists who recorded an album entitled "Rebirth" in 97/98. The album was never released commercially but garnered critical praise and gained worldwide recognition through word of mouth, hand to hand sales, and the internet.
One of the standout songs on the "Rebirth" album was Shylow's solo track "S.T.O.M.P". It caught the ear of hip-hop legend Chuck D of Public Enemy, who in an issue of Elemental magazine, as well as on his website www.rapstation.com rated the song the number one mp3 download of the year 2000.
In 2003, he became the first Canadian hip-hop artist to have a 'debut' single (Moment Of Clarity b/w The Greatest) released on a reputable American label (Fatbeats/Breakthru) featuring production by a well-known and sought after American producer (Ayatollah).
Is credited as Co-Executive Producer for Marco Polo's Soulspazm/Rawkus debut album Port Authority, which was nominated for a Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) in 2008.

Samiyam grew up Sam Baker in Michigan. Soon he became part of a post “Donuts” producers network focusing on instrumental hip-hop beats, who found themselves migrating west and huddling in the scene around Low End Theory in East Los Angeles. That's when Flying Lotus and Samiyam met and Rap Beats Vol. 1 was released as Samiyam’s debut album on Brainfeeder in 2008.

Recorded by Salty – AKA Tokyo-based producer / videographer Naoya Ninomiya – the demo arrived as a nearly complete object, ready for dissemination to the global hip-hop headz-space. The songs have been mastered by legendary Japanese hip-hop studio engineer ‘The Anticipation Illicit’ Tsuboi and, with Dday One acting as executive producer it is now ready to be unveiled as the thirteen track album Camera. It’s a fantastic audio journey that gives a glimpse into Japanese beat-making prowess while sitting proudly within the instrumental hip hop echelon. With “Camera”, Salty showcases a diverse set of styles and an acumen for rhythmic patterns and tone, developed through his years of crate-digging and experimentation. And there are many moments to claim as highlights … “Remonoganac” with its gentle piano, atmospheric textures, and tough beats; the laid-back hip hop funk and scratches of “ADSL”; the smoky downtempo vibe of “The Sea Came At Midnight” is reminiscent of sounds of classic Dj Krush; and “Melting In The Dark” with its cinematic layers and haunting vocal. The lead single for the bonus vinyl, "Wild Seeds" is a lyrical testament to the beauty, mysticism, and wisdom of the elders and ancestors who've guided and bolstered generations of Black women through history's assault and neglect of them. With a title inspired by the sci-fi novel Wild Seed by visionary author Octavia Butler, the song serves as a celebration of women such as Queen Nanny, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth and many others, whose legacies inform future generations of their propensity to bloom under the harshest of conditions. "Just like wild seeds, we remain unfettered and unbroken, adding beauty and immeasurable value to a world that chooses not to acknowledge us," Sa-Roc states, "but our very existence is the only acknowledgement we require." Throughout the songs of The Sharecropper's Daughter Bonus Vinyl, Sa-Roc maintains a concise blend of thought provoking commentary and razor sharp lyricism. “A Safe Place to Be Naked” is S.Fidelity’s debut album, which will be released on May 5th via Jakarta Records. It features 12 tracks, capturing the producer’s quest for a fresh sound, which he elaborated over the last two years, locked in his tiny basement studio in Berlin. Evolving from there the he has also released an EP with Feelin Music in 2014, and “Sidekicks”, a joint project with long-term friend and collaborator Bluestaeb in 2016.
By working with artists like Tru Thoughts singer Harleighblu and label mate JuJu Rogers as well as fellow producers Bluestaeb and Shuffle Jack, his LP “A Safe Place to Be Naked” plays with sampled vocals and even his own voice – often distorted, but still present.
S. Fidelity was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, mainly works in Berlin and currently resides in London. As a producer he developed a unique and always driving sound, combining sampling techniques and classic beat making with unusual drum patterns, modern synth and atmospheric sound effects. S. Fidelity’s laid-back eclecticism is marked by a deep knowledge and fascination for Pop culture as a whole. His idea of fresh HipHop references to various genres, including Jazz, Ambient, Disco and Electronica.

Paris based Roforofo Jazz is a 7-piece liveband fronted by Chicago born MC Days (aka RacecaR), with a certain taste for adventurous blends, mixing hip hop, afrobeat and jazz into their very own style. After more than 15 years slashing the afrobeat of Les Freres Smith with his guitar cuts, Martin Smith digged into the musical sediments and silts in a swamp of hip hop, funk groove, afro power, jazz freedom radicality, with a certain taste for adventurous blends. This wax solid 5 tracks Vinyl was recorded live in Montreuil (France) at Studios La Peche, in November 2019, just a few weeks after the band toured in Nigeria and played at the mythical New Afrika Shrine on the occasion of Felabration 2019, where they got invited to perform by the Fela Kuti family for a series of concerts in Lagos. The 5 titles include the single “Fire Eater”, a raw afro hip hop tune mixing rhythms in the tradition of polyrhythm afrofunk tunes, while also alternating in between jazzy mood and burning hip hop anthem. “Dump It” is a dark, mid tempo beat, borrowing the groove signature of ethiopian soul, and coated with hip hop sharp drops, while horns bring the jazzyness through their themes. “Helelyos” is a cover/extrapolation of Iranian singer Zia’s hit, to which Days vocals bring an heavy old school hip hop vibe. “2Kick1” is a relentless afrobeat oriented tune, though with a languorous spacy chorus that breaks with the traditional afrobeat routine. And “What We Think We Saw” ends the EP with an opening to more psychedelic visions, in which a Gil Scott-Heron spoken word style meets jazzy space echoes, flutes under massive reverbs in a global vibe that could remind old analog recordings of Mandrill, Cymande or LKJ.

The third album from London-based multi-instrumentalist, Robohands. ‘Shapes’ fuses elements of jazz, krautrock, hip hop and ambient music. For fans of Khruangbin, Yusef Dayes, CAN, Coltrane and 70s library music moods.

Shapes is the solo project of London based composer, instrumentalist and producer Andy Baxter. His debut LP Green was released on Village Live Records in 2018 and was received with much love and acclaim in the UK Jazz, hip hop and surrounding scenes.

His follow up full-length, 'Dusk’, dropped in 2019, combining soul, funk, Latin & experimental moods. It featured vocalists & musicians from around the world including legendary New York French horn player, John Clark, who has worked with Isaac Hayes, Gil Evans Orchestra, McCoy Tyner, Jaco Pastorius, Ornette Coleman and many more greats.

'Shapes' is inspired by 1970s library music and their legendary composers including Piero Umiliani, David Axelrod, Brian Bennett and co. The album builds on these influences and incorporates modern motifs, contemporary jazz/hip hop drumming styles with a nod to 1990s Mo Wax artists such as DJ Shadow. The theme for the record is future/nostalgia, mixing vintage & modern instruments and production techniques.

Much of ‘Shapes’ was recorded with JB Pilon at Buffalo Studios in Limehouse, London. Due to the COVID restrictions that changed everything in 2020, the remaining parts were recorded in Andy’s flat using a collection of old mixing desk preamps and instruments.

For the heads – ‘Shapes’ features an array of vintage snares, including a 1960's Ludwig Pioneer and a mono, overhead ribbon mic on the drum kit provided extra old school points! The kick drum was re-amped through a huge vintage bass amplifier on a couple of tracks to give it some real character. “My favourite guitar sound achieved on this LP project is a

Sontronics Sigma ribbon microphone in front of a WEM Dominator amp, which you can hear on the track 'Odysea'. The bass sound for all the tracks is a 1973 Fender Precision into an old Altec valve preamp, the one used on most Motown recordings.”
