“Ben Buck B Sides” is a remix compilation by rapper/beatboxer/producer, Ben Buck. Born and raised in Austin Texas, Ben Buck has become a mainstay of the underground hip hop scene in Texas for the past several years. “B Sides” came about during the height of the 2020 corona virus epidemic. With limited ways to collaborate with other artists face to face, Buck came up with a way to re-tool his past discography by sending out the acapellas from his past 3 albums (Kilroy, Speaker Bump Deluxe and The Marquee) to producers all over the country. What came about was the first volume of “Ben Buck B Sides”. With deep influences in the golden era and traditional styles of underground hip hop, Ben Buck strives to innovate and continue the legacy of artists who paved the way before him. Hailing from a musical family, Ben Buck’s father Mike Buck was a founding member of the legendary blues group “The Fabulous Thunderbirds”. Mike Buck is also the co-owner of the historic Antone’s Record Shop in Austin Texas where both Ben and his sister Billie work. His sister Billie Buck is also the frontwoman for the garage/punk band “Sailor Poon” (Austin Chronicle’s Best Punk Band 2018, 2019 and 2020). She is a gifted graphic designer and poster artist, and frequently does designs for Ben’s merchandising and album covers. Over the course of his musical career, Ben Buck has beatboxed on stage alongside several hip hop legends on their tour dates through Texas including: Ghostface Killah and Inspectah Deck (Wu Tang Clan), Skyzoo, Bushwick Bill (Geto Boys), Czarface, RA The Rugged Man, Aceyalone (Freestyle Fellowship, Project Blowed) and many others. Buck’s live performance centers around high energy lyricism and live beatbox looping, with large emphasis on crowd work, reminiscent of a blend of artists such as Reggie Watts, Rahzel and Action Bronson.

Follow Plants is the third record by Limalo, the psychedelic beat music duo based in Austin, Texas composed of long-time friends Jesse Darling and Jordan Smith. After meeting at an alternative school in Fort Worth, Texas with an emphasis on nature, Limalo came into being with their first record Human Bloom in 2013, a melty reel-to-reel saturated ambient beat album which blended warped samples with warbly rhodes and droning synthesizers. Limalo plays on the surreal with samples from things like Alejandro Jodorowky’s “The Holy Mountain” and “Fantastic Planet”. While the record employs the signature sound of Limalo’s past output with its dreamy synth lines, dirty textures and wonky beats, it marks an energetic shift in heaviness from track to track. While still sprinkled with ambient, oneiric vignettes, Follow Plants strikes harder with thundering percussive layers, booming 808’s and crackling rimshots. Still, the album stays true to Limalo’s ambient core, capped at both ends by the intro title track Follow Plants, based around an idyllic 70’s flute & guitar cover of Erik Satie, and the final closing track Tap the Caapi, a sacred send-off of overlapping arpeggiations, performed flute and clarinet on top of a traditional Shipibo Icaro.

Animal Records – founded by Chris Stein of Blondie fame – only ever released one album in its brief early-80s history, but what an album that was. Wild Style remains the most seminal soundtrack in hip-hop history, a snapshot of the scene as it evolved from the streets to the recording studio. But it’s not just a vital document, it’s also a damn good listen.

The line-up is a who’s who of those who stood out from hip-hop’s nascent block party days. The Double Trouble pairing of Rodney Cee and KK Rockwell, The Chief Rocker himself, Busy Bee, the mighty line-ups of both The Cold Crush Brothers and The Fantastic Freaks. The music captures the free-form, roaming nature of the film – it’s rough at the edges, it’s occasionally amateurish, but it’s completely, utterly glorious.

The original Animal tracklisting, of which this is a reissue, is full of recurring sounds and motifs, all of them co-produced by Chris Stein and Fab Five Freddy, stepping away from breakbeats to produce a sound that reminds you of them, while being totally unique. The epic drums are courtesy of Lenny ‘Ferrari’ Ferraro, a Vietnam vet and punk drummer whose career spanned stints backing Aretha Franklin and Lou Reed.

Over time, those sounds – the Charlie Chase and Grand Wizard Theodore scratches, the indelible lyrics - have become hip-hop touchstones, endlessly sampled and referenced, the bedrock of so much music to follow. That’s because the soundtrack perfectly encapsulated the essence of the film, the scene and hip-hop’s emergence from The Bronx to the attention of the wider world. Presented in this reissue with the original artwork, it remains the blueprint.

“The Art Of Reanimation” album is a project by West Coast emcee and member of the legendary Hieroglyphics crew, Casual with production anomaly/executive producer Dead Perry. Dal Bosco & König orchestrate a secret agent crime story in 4 thrilling chapters. Chapter 3: "Dead Lions" Edgar a double agent? Naw. This makes no sense. Yet all evidence makes me doubt I ever knew this person in the first place. This scumbag. Makes me chase him around the globe just to find out he’s training goddamn lions in the soviet backlands to plan a coup against the president, aha. I need more information. This doesn’t add up. None of it does. None of this makes sense.

Chapter 4: "Outro" Close. Too close. I know too much. Way too much. I gotta report back. But first, I gotta get back to civilization. I need a phone, food, a bath, sleep. Sleep. Why do my eyes feel so heavy all of a sudden, what’s happening? What was... in that drink? Zzzzz.

Compiled by DJ Boca 45 (Scott Hendy), Vanguard brings together the seminal tracks that defined the rebellious era which saw the birth of the Bristol Sound for the first time. Featured tracks include an exclusive re-release of Any Love - the first ever track by Massive Attack released on Massive Attack Records in 1988, Smith & Mighty’s breakout hit Walk On, Purple Penguin’s downtempo classic Memphis and other trip hop classics. The LP celebrates the globally recognised Bristol Sound whose experimental breakbeat rhythms and influence still dominate the scene today. Prague based FM Label connects music, fashion and design. Established in 2020 by Uncalled 4, the label joins the flourishing scene of Prague with a vision of music in which the new revisits the old. The second release, Enough, comes from our very own Detente 2020 - the killer combo of Uncalled 4 and his studio partner and close friend, Universe Of Everything. Featuring NYC hip hop legend Afu-Ra and Charlie One on the vocals, the eponymous track Enough combines iconic 90's street rap with contemporary electronic sounds, presenting a scenic layer that provides a movie-like feeling. The Starvin Art Clique consisted of Christopher "30 Fingaz" Gittens, Robert "Hawaii" Russell and DJ Joe "Guess Who?" Davidge and "Starving Art" was their only album. The full production was handled by Guess Who? and Shane "The Doctor" Faber, features included artists such as Shawn Smith, Jaie, Mekolicious and others.

Originally released on CD on Joe Davidge's Overkast Records in 1998, the release was accompanied by a then and now hard-to-find 12" EP with 5 tracks of the album plus an instrumental version.

In 2007, King Magnetic and Tone Spliff met on the Vast Aire/Copywrite Weatherproof Tour. Over the years they collaborated on a dozen songs via features and other artists while releasing various solo projects. In 2019, they shot a video for the Ruste Juxx/Tone Spliff LP and decided to do some work for King Magnetic's Weekly Vibes 2020. This began the creation of the Nobody's Safe LP. Nameless - Raised in Flint, Michigan, he’s a producer & also a human time machine for the 90’s Boom Bap sound. On this album, “Chips”, Nameless is releasing a project that has become the most personal of his career thus far. “Chips” became a 2 year creation due to a life of serious events happening: lot of forks in the road, lot of depression, lot of moving from resting place to resting place, and so on. But when a person is passionate about a creation he’s been working on for 2 years, they’ll go through whatever it takes to see that it comes to life, even if they feel like the process is being dragged. Almost every track on the project involves a story, such as tracks like “Aisle 5”....a non-sampled, Flying Lotus-channeled joint, arguably his most soothing beat, created right after he was laid off from his job, truck driving. The beat was officially completed while sitting in his car, on break from driving for Lyft. It includes a posse cut titled “4 For $1” which features 4 talented rappers: Nametag Alexander, lojii, Vic Spencer & Brain Orchestra....the track also includes 4 beats in one. [hence the title “4 For $1” which is a nostalgic memory of chips that used to be 4 for $1 back in the days] It also has a featured metaphorical spoken word on chips from his good homie Donnie McMillan Jr. on the end of the track “Pringle’s” and you won’t be able to forget the melodic harmonies from his sis, Lyric Jones towards the end of the track “Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips”. The “Chips” project has been molded into a perfect masterpiece to the point that Nameless reached out to his mentor & good friend House Shoes and told him that this project was his own version of “Donuts”.....and that’s a huge statement.
