Brother Ali sat with the mic and spit rhymes as they came to him, without writing or organizing them into songs. Ev smoked a lot of weed, Ali prayed a lot, and their influences on each other can be heard in the recordings. Every time they made something that reminded them of what they’ve become known for, they threw it away and started something new. Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and CS Armstrong all came through to bless the project with contributions too. Never colonized, Thailand has remained purely itself across the years even while developing, evolving and selectively adopting international influences; the same can be said of Thai popular music, and can be clearly heard in previous releases of Thai music on EM Records. Perhaps the exception to this instinct of “pattana” (Thai for development or evolution) has been the luk thung genre, which, despite great forward leaps in the 1960s and 1970s, has been stagnant since the 1990s. New Luk Thung is here, however, as Juu and his friends update the luk thung genre with keyboards, drum machines, and samples from luk thung classics. Contemporary hip hop and trap are fused with luk thung and ramwong elements, as well as the traditional Isan/Lao instruments khaen and phin. Ex-biker Juu has been musically active since the 1990s as a respected rapper, musician and producer, relocating from Bangkok to the musically rich Isan region. His lyrics, in Thai, English, Khmer and Japanese, deal predominantly, humorously and punningly with ganja. New Luk Thung features 10 new tunes, recorded 2017-2019, produced by Juu and Young G (stillichimiya). Vocal guests include G. Jee, Chinza DOPENESS, Dengaryu, MMM, Big Ben, Mr. Maro and Young-G. Songs here include a tribute to Dao Bandon’ s 70s luk thung classic “Man on a Water Buffalo”, a theme song for the mystery group OMK (One Mekong), a cover of a hit from a 1977 film, and other new treats. After a welcome return from a lengthy hiatus, Dirty Hairy is back behind his MPC with a brand new release on Soul Dynamite records.
For those not in the know, London born scallywag (Mr) Dirty Hairy is a seasoned underground veteran on several jazz rap and funk 45 DJ circuits around the globe.
Whilst backpacking through New Zealand from 2003 - 2005 he was acquainted with a Maori rapper with a fondness for drum breaks by the name of Nat Lover.
10 years later ( and a few beats in between) Hairy moved to New Zealand and set up a recording studio in the lower North Island city of Palmerston North and the 2 began making music together.
After a few small, but nicely packed local gigs it was evident that the vibe they enjoyed creating was an up tempo funky feel with devastating flows and cuts.
Offered up on this 45 is new edition of a track called " Combat "( You might find a very old version of this on You Tube made with an MPC3000) This time around Hairy chops up busy drum break
saved on the trusty MPC 60 floppy disks with some pianos and horns and cuts in between the spaces.
For the flip side the tempo steps up a bit more alongside even funkier flows from Nat. His nod of respect to the early party rockers of Hip Hop is apparent whilst Hairy dips into
some more regional breaks and layers of jazz samples and cuts. A double sided dance floor burner
comprising of two funky joints giving you ' them early early Hip Hop ' feels. This 45 showcases the first of many collaborative efforts between the two ' once dubbed Dirty Lover '.

Hypnotic, hazy and floating on a heavy but effervescent cloud, Nobody’s “All Too Familiar” album sees the producer delving into his formative years as a college radio DJ when his sonic palette blossomed. 2019 has been a banner year for Griselda Records. From recording their highly anticipated record for Eminem’s Shady
Records to Benny The Butcher signing a management deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, they have made some major moves.
However, the young shooter of the crew, Elcamino, has been largely ignored by the press and masses alike.
After dropping his self-titled debut at the top of last year, Camino appeared on almost every track on Benny’s A Friend of Ours
EP. He then followed that up with a strong sophomore effort titled Walking On Water. This year the baby-faced Buffalo rapper
has already dropped his third LP, Don’t Eat The Fruit, as well as the well-received Lot and Abraham EP, and he is mere weeks
away from unleashing Elcamino 2 on the world.
You would think that is enough to start getting on the media’s radar, but as to not leave anything to chance, he is dropping
yet another project on September 27, Where’s My Pyrex? This offering is entirely produced by Dutch beat architect Oh Jay.
While the name may not be instantly recognizable to North American fans, Oh Jay is well known in The Netherlands and

Born and raised in the infamous Coney Island section of Brooklyn, Nems started writing at the age of 15, when he hit the gas and never slowed down, winning almost every notable freestyle battle and performance based competition in NYC. At age 17 Nems participated in the MTV series “Fight Klub”, during which Nems battled fellow MCs to a 20-3 record and became a stand-out on the show, garnering him attention from Def Jam, Shady Records and countless labels of all sizes. Nems inked a deal with Psycho+Logical / Koch Records and began touring throughout the United States, dropping his first album in 2010, the critically acclaimed Prezident’s Day. Since dropping Prezident’s Day, Nems has released numerous albums and mixtapes (including Coney Soprano, the Skinny Nems series and Planet of the Apes series) and has collaborated with legends and up-and-comers in the rap game alike, including Ghostface Killah, Kool G Rap and Benny the Butcher.
Nems’ hard work over the years has paid off, amassing a cult like following with no major-label backing or support. His loyal fan base continued to grow as he established
the “FYL” clothing and apparel brand, selling out a new piece of merch every week to die-hard fans all over the world, including those who expressed their dedication with Nems and FYL tattoos. Now, in 2019, fans of Nems can get their fix with GORILLA MONSOON, his new 13 track LP ft Conway, Spit Gemz and more, and entirely produced by Jazzsoon.

Back in 2008, just two years after James Yancey aka J Dilla’s passing, Mike Ross, founder of Delicious Vinyl, presented J Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes), with a vault of unreleased beats from her late son. Following Dilla’s childhood friend (and longtime collaborator) Frank Nitty (Of Frank N’ Dank) was a part of a group of confidants, who lovingly went through the treasure chest of music, formulating a tribute to their departed friend the best way they knew how. With hundreds upon hundreds of instrumentals to choose from, Nitty and Dilla’s brother Illa J narrowed the pile down to a collection of about 50 tracks, some of which would become the building blocks of their debut 2013 Yancey Boys album, ‘Sunset Blvd’. Upon its release in 2013, the LP (which featured appearances from Hip-Hop royalty including Common, Talib Kweli, Posdnuos, T-3 & Guilty Simpson) became an instant classic, gaining recognition from tastemakers across the world.

Even without J Dilla’s presence during the record’s creation, Frank & Illa J were able to harness Dilla’s omniscient creative energy during the production process of making Sunset Blvd. His contributions and spirit couldn't help but permeate the beats, the undeniable foundation for the tracks on the record. “Beyond the beats, his fingerprints were all over the record, in the guest artists we chose to ask for a feature, to the guys mixing and mastering. Most of whom he (J Dilla) worked with before he passed”, said Frank.
