Breaking Atoms, the debut album from hip-hop group Main Source, was a quietly revolutionary hit in 1991, and its pioneering approach to sampling and production methods continue to be hailed and documented by dedicated fans old and new. Composed of Toronto brothers K-Cut and Sir Scratch, and Queens MC Large Professor, the group used wide-ranging samples from jazz and soul records to weave introspective tales of relationship fatigue on ‘Looking At The Front Door’, sobering satire of police violence on ‘Just A Friendly Game Of Baseball,’ and many more sketches from the New York/Toronto underground. The album also includes the first recorded appearance of Nas on ‘Live At The Barbeque’ that would mark the beginning of many collaborations for Nas and Large Professor, with the former also producing three tracks on Nas’ Illmatic. Willard Hughes (March 22, 1971 - October 5th 2017) aka Att Will was a Gangsta Rapper from Compton, CA. He was also affiliated with the Neighborhood Compton Crips, a local street gang.

He began rapping in the early 90's and recorded a few songs before his debut album in 1993 ("Where There's a Will, There's A Way", "Party's On", Nose Trouble", "Lock Up"...). He was also featured on 2 songs of Tweedy Bird Loc's first album, "187 Drive By", released in 1992, with the other members of his first group, Underground Connection.

In 1993, soon after the release of the single "Just Another Day In Compton", Att Will released his debut album, "Do It Att Will", on Big City Records. It is considered a classic by many and now SouthWest Enterprise is proud to announce the album's reissue on CD!

Despite an excellent debut album, "Naughty By Nature" was pegged as a one-hit wonder by some, after all, they'd never duplicate the inescapably catchy "O.P.P.". But when 19 Naughty III was released on February 23, 1993 with the lead single "Hip Hop Hooray, " the group proved that they could recreate that magic. Celebrating it's 30th Anniversary this year, the album has been certified platinum and "Hip Hop Hooray" has become a hip hop anthem. The single was #1 on the charts, earning the band their second Top 10 hit, with the video directed by Spike Lee, featuring appearances from Tupac Shakur, Run-DMC and more. The album also contains the hits "Written on Ya Kitten" and "It's On" and has guest appearances from Heavy D and Queen Latifah. Production was handled entirely by group member KayGee, who has one foot in the clubs and the other one on the street corner, and that's true of the group as a whole.

Detroit based hip hop group Da'Enna C aka Da Enna Cirkle formed in 1991 consisted of P. Gruv, Sleeepy D aka 3E, Boog Woog and DJ Dez (Andres). Da' Enna C is known for being the first group to release a Dilla production the song was "Now" included on the You Can't Use My Pen EP (1994) released on the UpTop Entertainment Record Label. In 1999 the group went into hiatus, focusing more on production for other artist an entities, producing a string of beat records for Hipnotech which included releasing three Enna C songs on the Beats & Rhyme 12" series and another previously unreleased song recorded in 1994 called "True to Rap" produced by J Dilla and DJ Dez Hr-018 (2010).

New Flava Volume 1 is an audacious project birthed in Austin Aggrey-Odoom's brain in the Spring of 1995. Austin, being a devoted Christian as well as a massive music fan, was a regular at different churches across the London Area during the mid-90's. He then connected with many young aspiring Gospel/Soul/R&B singers and had the idea to produce a Gospel album that could appeal to a younger crowd, mixing US R&B influences, to create a new kind of Christian R&B that could have radio potential, while showcasing U.K.'s underground Soul talents from the Gospel community. His love of God and passion for music would finally merge into this hybrid compilation project called New Flava Volume 1. With the help of producer Paul Cumberbatch, they recorded a selection of the finest voices that Austin could find amongst the Gospel circuit. Inspired by popular US R&B/Hip-Hop artists of that time, they aimed to recreate a heavy and well-polished sound that would resonate with the fans of Mary J. Blige, Joe and SWV amongst others. The result is quite mind-blowing, Cumberbatch's top-notch productions make a strong foundation to let the artists shine throughout the compilation, such as Tyrone Henry on the instant-classic « Time For You And Me » or the label-favorite « Heaven Is In My Home » by Jasmine Kirby. One of our all time favourites, “e-z On The Motion” was originally released in 1994 and became an underground anthem from coast to coast, getting huge play from DJs across the country via mixtapes, college radio shows, plus the video getting heavy rotation on Much Music’s Rap City. Produced by the legendary production crew Da Grassroots, the record earned Ghetto Concept their 2nd Juno and solidified them at the top of the Toronto (and Canadian) Hip-Hop scene.

Representing Rexdale, MCs Kwajo and Dolo formed Ghetto Concept in 1992 with Infinite, who joined the group first as their DJ but then eventually became the third MC. By the time “e-z On The Motion” dropped, Ghetto Concept already had the T-Dot anthem “Certified” under their belt thanks in part to Da Grassroots production. “They were responsible for a major part of the Toronto sound,” says Kwajo in a 2015 interview with Vice titled 1994: The Year The T-Dot Broke, “Everybody wanted a Grassroots beat. They were definitely way ahead of their time.”

As the story goes, Mr Attic played the beat out of his Nissan at the “Certified” video shoot and the rest is history. “[Da Grassroots'] Mr. Attic played the beat for "e-z on The Motion" from his car,” says Kwajo. “As soon as I heard the beat, I knew that was the next record. I literally begged him for the beat.”

De La Soul’s third studio release, Buhloone Mindstate, released on September 21, 1993, saw the group evolve into a new sound as they continued to grow stylistically and musically. There were several moments on the album which proved the band had matured. "I Be Blowin'" was a departure as the track was an instrumental featuring saxophone playing by Maceo Parker. The introspective "I Am I Be" showed De La Soul at their most self-referential to date. "Long Island Wildin'" was a collaboration with Japanese hip hop artists Kan Takagi (Major Force) and trio Scha Dara Parr (sdp). The album's first single, "Breakadawn", used a sample of Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It" and Smokey Robinson's "Quiet Storm". De La Soul collaborated for the first time with Gang Starr's Guru on "Patti Dooke", and female MC Shortie No Mas who was prominent on many tracks on the album and showcased particularly on "In The Woods". The album ended with an old school Biz Markie collaboration called "Stone Age".

Originally released as a single in 1995 under the split name of Black Moon / Smif-n-Wessun, 'Headz Ain’t Redee' was a large undertaking from the cross-section of the Brooklyn hip-hop community that fronted it. Black Moon, Smif-n-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah and Originoo Gunn Clappaz would later rebrand as the rap supergroup Boot Camp Clik and go on to produce four albums together, but this was their first release together as a unit. Murder Inc. was a rap group from New Orleans, consisting of Crazy, Legend Man, MC L and Alamo.
They only released 2 albums while signed with Hard Head Records entitled; "Playin' For Keeps" and "Let's Die Together," before each artist went solo; following the death of their CEO in 1996.
Hard Head Records was a New Orleans based rap label, active through 1993-1997. Founded by Roderick Smith, whom at the age of 24 was shot and killed, resulting in the label ending with the last album release and project by group Murder Inc., entitled; "Let's Die Together." Crazy and Legend Man signed in 1996/7 with Ruff Era Records, followed by MC L signing with Bally Boy Records, and Alamo ending her rap career.

Get On Down is proud to present, Commons sophomore album, Resurrection. While the album was originally neglected by the mainstream, it has since received a great deal of critical acclaim and is now on The Sources 100 Best Rap Albums. In comparison to his debut album, Commons musical style evolved lyrically by his expressing of himself rather than just describing street life. With its Jazz and Hip Hop flavors, Resurrection furthered the growth of both genres. Overall, the album is commonly perceived as an underrated Rap classic and now this legendary album is available in a much anticipated, 2xLP gatefold jacket edition.

Resurrection was produced almost entirely by No I.D., who has gone on to work with heavyweights like Usher, Alicia Keys and Rihanna, and he recently produced the first two singles for Jay-Zs new album The Blueprint 3. In addition, No I.D. is credited as the man who introduced Kan ye West to Hip Hop production, inviting him to his sessions with Common when West was only starting out.
