My goal was to be free as an artist and regain my musical rights back. Rights that I gave away in a very questionable contract that I naively signed based on the feeling of trust and friendship.

Long story short: the conflict was unpleasant, it gave me hard times mentally and financially but also resulted in a 7” where I put all my efforts to process the emotions of betrayal, friendship loss, and deception while regaining my creative freedom compassionately.

Esbe is a multi-genre music producer from Los Angeles, California. He is known for his atmospheric instrumental production which incorporates sound elements from extensive use of jazz and soul samples. His latest release, Bloomsday, is a collection of 19 essential instrumentals. "If you were to grab tracks at random from Bloomsday, you might not have guessed that those songs came from the same album. However, when you listen to the album in the way that it was arranged, it will all start to make sense, and you can start to hear how Esbe connects the dots from one song to the next. Esbe draws from a lot of different styles and influences, whether it be soul, hard bop, cool jazz, bossa nova, boom bap, down tempo, jungle, house, or drum and bass, just to name a few. This might sound like he’s unfocused or trying to do too much with his music, but Esbe has a good sense for not overcrowding his individual tracks. Each song might bring in a couple of different elements, but he keeps his arrangements clean, with just the right amount of interesting samples to build from, and the patience to let them unfold at a steady pace, without forcing anything. There are plenty of obscure samples that you won’t place, but he also manages to pick a few key spots to drop some well-known samples, but then re-purposes them in interesting ways in which to give them new life. Bloomsday will take more than one listen to really sink in, but it will eventually sneak up on you and reveal its cleverness in really subtle and interesting ways. From his days in the seminal 1980s Bronx unit Ultramagnetic MCs, through his pioneering development of new conceptual characters and styles in the 1990s (Big Willie Smith, Dr. Octagon, Dr. Dooom, Black Elvis), to his continuous run of radically independent recordings in the 2000s and beyond, Kool Keith defines rap longevity and artistic originality. No one else in hip hop has a comparable record of continuous reinvention, conceptual boldness, and stylistic panache.

And after four decades in rap, Keith is still one of the hardest working rappers in the game, perpetually seeking new sounds to spit on and new collaborators from across the musical spectrum. To celebrate "Full Cycle"'s 10th anniversary I've decided to share some of the many beats I did at the time I was working on it.

It was such an important moment to me as I was living in Berlin half a year for my art studies. I've never produced that much, probably made 5 beats a day for 6 months.

"Full Cycle" is also the album that helped me to reach Japanese audience thanks to Shing02 who featured on 2 tracks. I contacted FK, as I was a huge fan of his track 'Shades of Nostalgia". He eventually connected me to Takumi Koizumi (ex-Nujabes' manager) who releases my music since then.

Today I've carefully selected some of my favorite joints from that period. Some of them were really close to be part of the LP, some others I've totally forgot but re-discovered when I realized how fast time flies.

I hope you'll enjoy this batch of instrumentals. Get ready for (really) new music in the next months !

Bay Area beatmaker Nu Vintage has signed on with Cold Busted to transmit Vibrations In Color, a 14-track album displaying the many moods and hues of this multifaceted producer. Nu Vintage is known for his many Bandcamp digital 'beat tapes' as well as releases on Inner Ocean and Dezi-Belle Records. He builds on these past accomplishments to construct the new album, expanding the shades from his heady rhythm-jazz palette to new dynamic points in the spectrum. Vibrations In Color sonically glistens with a muted neon glow to accompany a slow midnight cruise through the naked city. "Good Company" encapsulates the nature of Nu Vintage, with dusty beats, melodic piano chimes, and the interplay between vibraphone, organ, and distant strings all making the case. The feel is warmly nostalgic as, faintly underneath the music, one hears what sounds like kids playing on a summer day. The song title "Gratitude Is Key" might give a clue to Nu Vintage's mindset, and bright, echoey vibes tingle alongside flute riffs and guitar hits for maximum listening satisfaction. Nu Vintage also enlists a couple of friends, including Emapea, who co-produces the vintage jazz timewarp tune "Horizons." This one's the sound of fusing a smokey jazz joint of yesterday with a modern beathead lounge. Once again, Atlanta-based rapper/DJ, Dillon has teamed up with Grammy award-winning beatsmith and bonafide Hip-Hop legend, Diamond D on production duties; this time for a full-length album. Where their first collaborative effort, Black Tie Affair (2017), had a more polished approach, Uncut Gems offers a deeper glimpse of the Underground - a sound that Diamond D and his crew, D.I.T.C. helped define in the 90's and an aesthetic that Dillon came to embody in the early 2000's as a student of the era. This one blew my goddam socks off when I heard it. I hit up Rich who I'd been trying to connect with for years and he sent me this project by a group called Sore Loserz who never released a thing back in the day. Sore Loserz were So Devine - DJ/Producer and Skee The Y-Know [pronounced “wino”] the MC. The project was produced by the Erbs [later renamed DBC Elements Inc.] which comprised of Rich Blak, Chocolate Tye and So Devine.

One of my favourite Herring unknowns, this 6 tracker has the feel of a Bushwick project, with Finsta Bundy & Poetikal Thugz on background vocals and production kind of on an Arsonists tip [imo]. Just a stunning never leaked, never heard before project from 1994. Heads are gonna love it!!!!
