Back in 1998 this rare and dope comp was released on tape only by this dope crew from Virginia named the Fat Nogin Civilianz. The collective was formed by different groups or artists like Vertical Status (Dalu, Soul Sun & Malik Starr), Exstra Black Adishon (N-Tel & Natural), Verbale Unknown (Majestic & Rapster Funk), Vinyl Scavengaz (N-Tel, Majestic & Ant Live), Bless, M Squared, Shabazz and Philosophy.

The project was released on Most Entertainement Music Group which originally started as a management company in 1995 and became a record company in 1997. It was managed by two childhood friends named Dante R. Parham and D. Carlos Johnson from Petersburg, VA. Carlos Johnson was also known by the rap name KAY ILL who also features on the comp.

In his global wanderings, he takes us to New York with the track "L.O.V.E."an ode to love, featuring the Temple's guardian, A.G. of the mythical collective DITC and his protégée Hii Siddity, from the duo The Girll Codee. "Taraxacum" plunges us into a languorous atmosphere, sublimated by sublimated by the flute of Antoine Laloux from The Selenites Band. Then comes "Ben", a boom bap - melancholy jazz production, where the grain of vinyl mingles with the roughness of the Akai S950 sampler. I came across this artist called WolfEarsPanthro on bandcamp and heard his song "Consultant Funk" I was instantly fascinated. If i'm not mistaking it was around April 2021 when i asked Wolf to collab with me on a full lenght project and he just said yes! Very soon we found out we both like def jux and trip hop a lot! And so the creative process began. Wolf approached my sometimes difficult productions so naturally and came up with this Windblade theme/concept. The work on this album felt like beeing kids again creating our own universe...

Written during a year of hedonistic isolation whilst exiled to a forgotten mining village, Alecs in Wonderland’ is the debut self-produced rap album by rap enigma and ‘one man band’ Alecs DeLarge.

Alecs navigates ‘Wonderland’ with a bulging backpack of references to 90’s Toonami imports, king skins and rap nerdology, multi-syllable boxing through beats in a smoked out stream-of-consciousness drawl. From the cartoonish braggadocio on ‘Scooby Snax’ and ‘AM To AM’, to proclaiming his love for his anthropomorphic MPC 2000 on ‘Girl Joint’, Alecs emphatically proving that he’s much more than just the man behind the boards. Merging classic New York rap sensibilities with sarcastic British humour, 110’s and Berghaus coats taking the place of Timb boots and Lo sweaters.

Musically Alecs draws inspiration from Quasimoto’s anything goes approach, feeding his sampler a range of ingredients from 80’s pop to private-press French prog. Grainy samples of VHS TV recordings warble atop rumbling 808s, diced up jazz and funk fragments punch their way through stuttering MPC drums, whilst guitar loops rock back and forth, all glued together by a loose narrative made up of cut up cartoon dialogue, movie trailers and adlibs.

Wonderland is Alecs’ custom built version of The Matrix, a perfect world created to escape the one outside his council flat window, idyllic living in Lynchian reality. A therapeutic outpouring of the lonely man’s psyche, or maybe just a slow descent into madness, polished and delivered to your ears

in Long Play form.

For the majority of ‘in Wonderland’, Alecs is the sole cast member. The first of the two guest spots going to the ever brilliant King Kashmere, reuniting with Alecs to ruminate the two sides of fame on ‘Megabus Dreams’, whilst Hpblk swoops in to drop a “stack on your conscious” on ‘Empty Pocket Posse’.

Here we have a Heavy rarity outta Philly from 1995 by MC, producer and graf artist Jon Doe aka Denske aka Culture Livingston. Check the interview below in the Product Info section for the full story, but homeboy has been part of the Philly scene since way back when. He used to write under the name Denske and heads might be aware of his excellent documentary "Tag City" which delves deep into the Philadelphia writing scene and in particular the esoteric Gangster hand style of the 60s/70s synonymous with the city. He was also featured in Roger Gastman's "History Of American Graffiti". Seriously, peep the interview below - it's full of gems.

So, to the music. There were 3 joints on the 12" that dropped in 1995 [300 copies pressed only] and 6 on the cassette version - here we have 5 of those 6 tracks, 2 of which have never been released on wax. Unfortunately the final track was busted so couldn't be used!! As he mentions in his interview, this project was recorded on an old 4-track and never got mastered before pressing so it is dusty, but that adds to the mid 90's flava!

During the strangeness of the pandemic Donwill released an EP titled Safe. It was about how for a period of time everything felt downright dangerous. About a year after that he dropped companion piece tilted Space. Where as Safe was a set of songs examining the need to be and feel safe, this time around he took some time to examine what it means to have space as a black person in America. About the Artist Donwill is an Award winning rapper, producer and DJ. "Macrodose" is an album recorded in the classic form of Producer & MC, (Antiquant and Prykson Fisk). JuNouMi Records (est. 2002) gives this hip-hop project the highest mark of quality. Real underground rap album including many guests such as Axel Holy and King Kashmere from UK.
Prykson writes about the album as follows: Macrodose is a lyrical "trip report" with a perfect musical accompaniment, a diary of a total life transformation inspired by the power of medicine contained in entheogens.
To emphasize the urban character of the project, we asked the well-known street artist Tyber to create the graphic design of the album, which is ultimately based on a dedicated mural painted in September in Gdańsk.

Mr. Aleksander aka Prykson Fisk aka Fred Flin100NER is 170 kg of live hip-hop. Beat-boxer, MC and DJ, associated with Hip-Hop culture since 2003. Antiquant - 24-year-old producer from Zielona Góra. He has collaborated with artists such as Ryfa Ri, Mada, Asthma, Mareceli Bober. With his beats, he tries to drown the listener in an ocean of cosmic sounds. The axis of its production is the artistic achievements of producers such as flying lotus, monte booker and j dilla. In his songs, he does not limit himself to one style, his beats are often a patchwork of various genres of music. In his productions you can hear boom bap drums, trap eight hundred eighth notes and jazz trumpets coexisting in the strangest musical ecosystems. “moldy” is when I knew I was trapped somewhere with no exit. The song grinds itself like gears just askew enough to scream at the world. So good, so far, next week and next month, today and tomorrow. The words kept changing positions and hitting me from different angles. Is this about how expensive car repair is?

It took the audience a while to get past the candy coating to the depression in the middle of andrew. Beyond his melodic hooks and giant-sized soul samples was death and the grind of an endless workday. It took steel tipped dove’s fearless production to put us face to face with what he’s been sneaking us. “bad teeth” sounds like a Fatboi Sharif song with angry monsters in the not too far distance. “double sided gun” orients around a jarring feedback sound. dove’s bag is different from project to project. This one has real Punk Rock confidence, not on a mission to annoy the audience with weird noises but assured that if he does happen to, it will work out. He’s Johnny Thunders smirking at the audience, hearing the next lick before it rings through their faces.

The pain at the center of andrew’s music is very Michel Gondry. The way in which these words are conveyed is as important as their meaning. Listen to the hook on the first song (big red) as his nimble writing takes shape a familiar phrase gets stretched and jammed into itself sending the words in formations unfamiliar, picture a sentence structure accordion. Later in the album he says roman candle exploding andrew and you wouldn’t have it any other way! Gondry paints with design as much as script but he’s not tricking you. andrew’s jokes always have the ghost of Elliott Smith behind them. “Am I Beaker or am I Bunsen Honeydew? Today am I just suicidal or am I funny drew?” These two had to come together now. dove has a way of making you face your next phase and jump. Our friendly neighborhood "curious phrase" phenom needed an In Utero and that's what we get. Good luck finding a way out.
