The instrumental album "Gumbo", released in 2008, marked the beginning of Brenk Sinatra's international career as a producer. Voted one of the top 20 best instrumental albums of all time by the German JUICE magazine, "Gumbo" made the leap out of Austria with its rough and at the same time very soulful, sample-based instrumentals and put Brenk’s producer skills in the spotlight for the first time.

The follow-up "Gumbo II" was released in 2011 via the Cologne-based label MPM, which helped ignite the growing hype around instrumental hip-hop with Brenk Sinatra and other exceptional producers on board. Brenk's uncompromising second part of the Gumbo series catapulted him into the ranks of the most sought-after beat producers in Europe. Since then, the third and final part of the Gumbo series was also in the planning stage, but the ever-increasing number of musical projects and not least the pressure to top the first two album parts prevented Brenk from completing his instrumental trilogy. The folder with the instrumentals selected for it grew to well over 100 beats, was partially deleted and constantly changed in its composition, until Brenk stopped the targeted collection of Gumbo material in 2017 for the time being. At that time, Brenk made a stylistic shift that led him away from classic, sample-based beats to those laid-back trap hybrids that are now known as his trademark sound. Also, the mindset to complete "Gumbo III" would not settle and other projects were brought forward until the album took a complete back seat. Over the years, fans and journalists were repeatedly put off by Brenk when asked about a release date and "Gumbo III" became an eagerly awaited phantom project.

Fast forward to the year 2021: for the first time in four years Brenk clicks through the folder with the interludes, musical sketches and already finished beats once produced for "Gumbo III". With a new label and publishing situation in the background (in 2021 Brenk founded the music label Wave Planet Records as well as the associated publishing company Wave Planet Publishing) he makes the decision that the time is now ripe for the completion of the Gumbo trilogy and Wave Planet Records must become the new home of this project. This is followed by weeks of painstaking restoration of the instrumentals produced between 2012 and 2016. Brenk's focus was to keep the musical spirit of the instrumentals unchanged and not to modernize the sound. From today's perspective, "Gumbo III" bursting with countless vinyl samples sounds like Brenk's earlier beats, anachronistic and refreshingly different precisely because of that. The only update allowed for the "Gumbo III" instrumentals was a new mix by Brenk and mastering by his top-notch producer colleague Dexter.

The perfect visual complement to the Gumbo sound universe is provided by the playful cover artwork, bursting with details, by Cone The Weird, who already provided the striking artwork for the "Gumbo II" album.

The completion of the trilogy will be celebrated among other things with a very special "Gumbo Trilogy Box", which will be released in November 2022 and will make the heart of every passionate collector beat faster.

This LP finally brings a Clipping fan-favorite, 2016’s Wriggle, onto vinyl in an improved, expanded version that features new art, previously unreleased remixes, and a track that’s exclusive to the vinyl format. The original, digital-only Wriggle EP was six tracks that weren’t finished in time to make it onto the group’s 2014 Sub Pop debut, Clppng. For “Shooter,” Clipping recorded themselves firing fifteen different guns, the sounds of which exclusively constituted the beat’s drums, augmented only by a synthesized tone-row. The verses referenced the well-worn technique of “hashtag rap,” but instead of using it to boast about the rapper’s personal wealth and masculine prowess, Clipping put forth imagistic narratives of three violent encounters. True to much of the group’s music, “Shooter” was an attempt to reframe a familiar style and test the limits of its formal capabilities. “Hot Fuck No Love” contains what might be the most explicit verse to date from Clipping’s favorite New Jersey rapper Cakes Da Killa. The EP’s title track, “Wriggle,” was built around a sample of the influential power-electronics song “Wriggle Like a Fucking Eel” by Whitehouse, transforming William Bennett’s torturous imperative into a instructional dance-floor banger. “Wriggle” and “Shooter” have become classic Clipping tracks and staples of their live show.

The third album from London-based multi-instrumentalist, Robohands. ‘Shapes’ fuses elements of jazz, krautrock, hip hop and ambient music. For fans of Khruangbin, Yusef Dayes, CAN, Coltrane and 70s library music moods.

Shapes is the solo project of London based composer, instrumentalist and producer Andy Baxter. His debut LP Green was released on Village Live Records in 2018 and was received with much love and acclaim in the UK Jazz, hip hop and surrounding scenes.

His follow up full-length, 'Dusk’, dropped in 2019, combining soul, funk, Latin & experimental moods. It featured vocalists & musicians from around the world including legendary New York French horn player, John Clark, who has worked with Isaac Hayes, Gil Evans Orchestra, McCoy Tyner, Jaco Pastorius, Ornette Coleman and many more greats.

'Shapes' is inspired by 1970s library music and their legendary composers including Piero Umiliani, David Axelrod, Brian Bennett and co. The album builds on these influences and incorporates modern motifs, contemporary jazz/hip hop drumming styles with a nod to 1990s Mo Wax artists such as DJ Shadow. The theme for the record is future/nostalgia, mixing vintage & modern instruments and production techniques.

Much of ‘Shapes’ was recorded with JB Pilon at Buffalo Studios in Limehouse, London. Due to the COVID restrictions that changed everything in 2020, the remaining parts were recorded in Andy’s flat using a collection of old mixing desk preamps and instruments.

For the heads – ‘Shapes’ features an array of vintage snares, including a 1960's Ludwig Pioneer and a mono, overhead ribbon mic on the drum kit provided extra old school points! The kick drum was re-amped through a huge vintage bass amplifier on a couple of tracks to give it some real character. “My favourite guitar sound achieved on this LP project is a

Sontronics Sigma ribbon microphone in front of a WEM Dominator amp, which you can hear on the track 'Odysea'. The bass sound for all the tracks is a 1973 Fender Precision into an old Altec valve preamp, the one used on most Motown recordings.”

The “The Balancing Act” album title is inspired by the way Statik balances his responsibilities as a father, as an artist, as a producer and as a DJ. To execute his vision for the album cover, Statik enlisted famed designers Dom Dirtee and Tristan Eaton, whose work can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art's (MoMA) and has been featured across the world from Paris to Shanghai.

The album follows Statik’s collaborative album with Bun B in April 2019, when they famously teamed up to release TrillStatik – a joint album that was created entirely from scratch during an 11-hour livestream on YouTube. The significance of such an autonomous success often gets overlooked, and partly accounts for why Ruff Draft is one of the lesser-referenced entries in Dilla’s oeuvre. “It’s a mysterious little project,” says his mother, Maureen Yancey. “But out of his entire career, that was the happiest time.” Prior to recording the EP, Dilla found himself at a crossroads. Estranged from his label, MCA, and separated from the mother of his youngest daughter, frustration abounded both personally and professionally. Dilla spent parts of 2002 and 2003 working on an album for MCA that featured his rapping over contributions from other producers with whom he had connected and whose music he respected. At the time, he was known primarily for his beats, yet reviled for his MCing by most anyone not from his hometown of Detroit. The project was to be an intentional freak of the industry. The project would go on to spur his collaborative album with Madlib, Jaylib, and would first showcase the template that he would take to his greatest heights with 2006’s Donuts. The Stones Throw reissue of Ruff Draft from 2008 featured remixes of the songs from the album, done without Dillaís involvement. This version of the album takes Dillaís mixes of the album and restores his vision for the project. “Straight from the mothafuckin’ cassette,” as he phrased the sound he was going for on the EP’s intro.

What a killer season that last one was and we are starting the new one with a beast. The underground Hip Hop world was left reeling from the passing of People Under The Stairs' Double K in January 2021.

Back in 2008 he was working on a sick project with our man in New Haven, CT, Dooley O. A couple tracks from the sessions had been leaked on the net but the majority haven't been heard before.

What we have hear are 5 joints from the collabo as well as 2 insts and an acapella for the DJs to play with. Production is fantastic and we have been blessed with a modern day anthem, entitled simply "Hip Hop" - a joint which laments the current state of the artform, something which most heads can relate too. Not to say that hip hop isn't alive and well, as we know it is - well, at least alive - but Dooley & Double K are heard laughing at and pointing to the joke that the culture has become, asking us "what happened" to the form. "It must be the music that's turning me off, be sounding so Tinkerbell, extra soft" - yup we hear you fellas!!!

Nnamdi has never been able to stay in one place. The Chicago multi-instrumentalist and songwriter set a blistering pace in 2020 with his critically acclaimed genre-fusing LP Brat, a punk EP Black Plight, and Krazy Karl, a full-length tribute to Looney Tunes composer Carl Stalling. Though he's written earworms throughout his career from playing in bands in Chicago's DIY community or releasing goofy raps as Nnamdi's Sooper Dooper Secret Side Project, here, his shapeshifting hooks are undeniable. Each of the album's fourteen songs, which Nnamdi wrote, produced, and performed entirely himself, are relentlessly replayable, careening into unexpected and disorienting places. So, German producer BoFaat hit me up with about 4 demos he was working on and I was Seriously impressed. I asked him to give me a shout when the project was finished. Three Years Later I got the tracks! And you know what, it was worth the damn wait.

Philly's own Kenneth Masters drops heavy knowledge and flava over the best of BoFaat's production work so far, and he's done a lot of work recently. To be honest with you, I can't do this one justice with mere words - it's all about the sounds yo. But a clue is that I liked this one so much, I dropped it on my birthday.
