The contributions of the late Detroit producer James DeWitt Yancey -better
known to the world as J Dilla- to the world of hip-hop can't be overstated, and
nowhere is his legacy more apparent than his work as a member of Slum Village.
A founding member of the trio, (Alongside rappers T3 and Baatin) Dilla provided
the group's distinctly esoteric, free-wheeling sound, built around winding
basslines, quirky drumbeats, subtle low-end frequencies, and classic jazz & soul
samples. Against the backdrop of Dilla's rich production, T3 and Baatin's
free-flowing style of rhyming would also earn wide critical praise, leading to
comparisons as the successors to A Tribe Called Quest. (A label they themselves
have rejected.)
It's on Slum Village's 1997 studio debut, Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1, that all these
elements come together in the most proficient manner. An instant hit among
Detroit's underground hip-hop scene, the album seemed to combine all the best
elements of the reigning alternative and gangsta styles of hip-hop into one
cohesive style that was a hit among critics. Fan-Tas-Tic's influence extended far
beyond Detroit, as its sound heavily influenced the sounds of D'Angelo, Erykah
Badu, and The Roots just to name a few. (Roots drummer ?uestlove has even
declared that: "Hands down this album birthed the neo-soul movement.")
Ne'Astra Media Group now presents the album reissued on vinyl, for the first
time in several years. Every wobbling bass note of J Dilla's production has been
preserved and every freestyle line of T3 and Baatin has been re-created, to
maintain the legacy of a late-90s rap classic, and the legend of one of hip-hop's
greatest beatsmiths.

May 28th sees the 5th anniversary of Hubert Daviz' 2010 masterpiece „Proceduri De Rutina“.

The album was the first longform release by the Cologne-based producer.
"Proceduri De Rutina" was heavyly inspired by the Romanian jazz scene. The record started as a just-for-fun-beattape, after Hubert got hooked on the vintage jazz of his home country in late 2009. Call it magic, but the sample sources and Hubert's trademark sound fitted so well that the new music cried for a release. "Proceduri De Rutina" is a deep but chilled trip into Hubert Daviz's sound cosmos, inspired by some of the most obscure Eastern-European jazz you have never heard of.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary, Hubert has asked some of his producer friends to revisit the album together. Dexter, FloFilz, Wun Two, TBRCK, Max Graef and Hulk Hodn all delivered great interpretations.

The 5th anniversary edition will be released as a double LP using the original artwork by Robert Winter and Chicken George. The remix LP has it's own title "O Alta Perspectiva" and is packaged in a new cover by Robert Winter, shot at the same building where the cover photo for "Proceduri De Rutina" has been made.

This one is called ‚Kaiju Dugu‘ and is not exactly dealing with his neighborhood (called Kiez) itself but the arrival of giant monsters (Kaiju) in his hood. Dope Folks' 62nd release is the 4th installment in the "Killed By Def" compilation series featuring the work of DJ/producer The White Shadow from Norway. He went on to win the Norwegian DMC battles in 1988 and 1989 and began producing Hip Hop in 1990. In 1991 he moved to New York and became a member of the BDP POSSE and produced tracks for Critical Masz and The Warriors Of Shaolin. He moved back to Norway in 1994 and still continued to produce tracks for some of Hip Hop's biggest names. The White Shadow's "Then & Now" EP is an 8 track retrospective of his work from the early 90's to the present day. The newer material features MC's Raekwon, KRS One, Kool G Rap, Ras Kass, and Masta Ace just to name a few.

His latest autobiographical gorilla, "The King of Everything Else", is a cutting and revealing tell-all. If Behind The Music or E!
