It's rare to see Nassau, Covid and Grace Jones in the same sentence, but they were indeed part of the creative basis for DJ Vadim's brand new album, Feel UP.

As a busy international DJ, this was nothing short of armageddon for Vadim. The skies were darkened, but rather than sink into inactivity and hibernation, DJ Vadim created within himself his own tropical music festival, an alternative universe that would share some kind of kinship with the recordings made at Compass Point Studios, orchestrated by Chris Blackwell for Grace Jones (1980-1982), James Brown, Ac/dc, and many others...

It was a melting pot of world-class musicians, blending reggae, pop, soul and African rhythms and sounds... together creating one of the most influential albums of the period, and it was in this spirit that the inspiration and title of DJ Vadim's new album, Feel UP (literally 'Feel good' / 'Have the strength, the courage'), was born.

Forty years after those sessions at Compass Point Studios, the same quest for discovery took place in Vadim's Barcelona studio. The desire for growth, self-discovery and the creation of new sounds took hold. The dubcatcher with its 80s digital sounds went out and came back with a wide variety of musical tapas.

Esbe is a multi-genre music producer from Los Angeles, California. He is known for his atmospheric instrumental production which incorporates sound elements from extensive use of jazz and soul samples. His latest release, Bloomsday, is a collection of 19 essential instrumentals. "If you were to grab tracks at random from Bloomsday, you might not have guessed that those songs came from the same album. However, when you listen to the album in the way that it was arranged, it will all start to make sense, and you can start to hear how Esbe connects the dots from one song to the next. Esbe draws from a lot of different styles and influences, whether it be soul, hard bop, cool jazz, bossa nova, boom bap, down tempo, jungle, house, or drum and bass, just to name a few. This might sound like he’s unfocused or trying to do too much with his music, but Esbe has a good sense for not overcrowding his individual tracks. Each song might bring in a couple of different elements, but he keeps his arrangements clean, with just the right amount of interesting samples to build from, and the patience to let them unfold at a steady pace, without forcing anything. There are plenty of obscure samples that you won’t place, but he also manages to pick a few key spots to drop some well-known samples, but then re-purposes them in interesting ways in which to give them new life. Bloomsday will take more than one listen to really sink in, but it will eventually sneak up on you and reveal its cleverness in really subtle and interesting ways. Three years before switching his moniker to Adé Hakim and making beats for Earl Sweatshirt, sixpress dropped this artistry-defining beat tape on Bandcamp in the first chapter of a budding underground hip hop revolution known as [sLums]. Released the summer before the debut of his subsequent rap records and considered to be the beat tape which established the sound of sixpress, Tape 22 has now been given the official release it has long deserved.

Tape 22 has been remastered for premium sound and pressed on 180 gram vinyl with an etched b-side. Included in the package is a custom phenakistoscope slipmat designed by Helena Reed and J. Park of Crusty Angels, elevating the listening experience by providing a fitting and unique visual aspect to the record.

Broadway Junction is one of main transfer stations on the MTA Subway and Elevated train lines in East New York and the borough of Brooklyn. It’s where different train lines connect Brooklyn to the world. Like Broadway Junction, Subway Hip Hop Records brings together four of the best Brooklyn MCs for this limited vinyl EP:

Finsta - of "Finsta Bundy" fame- is one of the originators of the independent grimy New York boom bap 90's sound. On this EP he collaborates with DJ Direk (from Chicago) and brings the Timberland-wearing, hoodie-down ruggedness you've come to expect.

Shabaam Sahdeeq - of "Polyrhythm Addicts" fame- is another pioneer of that Brooklyn Golden Era sound. His expansive catalog of solo releases, group collaborations, and features cements his reputation as lyrical virtuouso. His contribution on this project, along with DJ Direk (from Chicago), reminds us of what makes him a legendary MC.

Napoleon Da Legend - Unquestionably, Brooklyn’s hardest working MC, with more releases, especially on vinyl, than anyone else in the last five plus years. Don't get it twisted, his output is 100% unadulterated skills, no filler. With DJ Tren (from France) on the beats, Napoleon's solo contribution is an unrelenting torrent of golden bars; he's truly in a class of his own here. On "Knife Play" he collaborates with Nejma Nefertiti over production from TherapyBeats (from Chicago) and demonstrates what happens when talented MCs go bar for bar -- Steel Sharpens Steel.

Nejma Nefertiti - The Queen from Brooklyn. Her hunger and fierce word play embarrasses Rolling Stone's Top 100 Rappers. Nejma Nefertiti's solo contribution over TherapyBeats’s (from Chicago) production brings verses inspired by "prophets and mystics.” When you hear this you're going to understand why it’s a certified classic and why we had to give it a bonus remix (featuring production by DJ 3RD Rail and Padawan).

Representing New Jersey to the fullest, Miilkbone stepped to the scene in 1994 with the piano-driven single "Keep It Real", followed by the full-length debut release "Da Miilkrate" in 1995.

In the ghetto landscapes of the Delaney projects in his hometown of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, hip hop became the soundtrack of Miilkbone's life. As b-boy kids bounced their ill pills with the mad swagger of basketball macks, the boo-boom of Rakim and Kool G Rap inspired the moods, grooves and attitudes of a new generation of rhyme slayers.

Mainly produced by the likes of former Illtown protégé Mufi, Naughty By Nature's very own Kay Gee and up-and-coming Nick Wiz, the album remains a highlight from the golden era in the catalogue of rap from New Jersey.
