Originally released on June 3rd, 1997, Coalmine Reissues in partnership with 420 Music is pleased to announce this first ever reissue of Teflon’s debut LP, My Will. As a member of M.O.P.’s First Family, Teflon first made his bones in the late ’90s New York rap scene, where he was first heard on M.O.P’s sophomore offering, Firing Squad. The following year, Teflon would go onto release his long awaited debut LP. Standing at ten tracks, My Will allowed for fans to further discover the artistic range of the gruff-voiced lyricist hailing from Brownsville. Surprisingly, the record offered a contrasting style from the hardcore sound listeners have come to from M.O.P. Nonetheless, the Brooklyn native provides plenty of roughnecks, braggadocio flavor and surprisingly meaningful rhymes. But it’s perhaps most notably the strength of his delivery that allows Teflon to carry My Will from start to finish. In “Sh*t Happens,” an incarcerated Teflon calls to check in with his girl over woeful strings coupled with a moody bassline. Never out of our sight are M.O.P.’s Lil Fame and Billy Danze, who spew their aggressive rhymes on a few tracks—most notably, the crunching “Rawness”—while adding their menacing voices to a number of the choruses, and supply the most punishing beats on the album (“My Planet,” “Ni**a What”). My Will is a promising first effort that preceded the Brooklyn rapper’s buzz, which would reach its pinnacle in 2000 for his appearance on M.O.P's "Ante Up (Remix)” alongside Busta Rhymes and then fledgling star, Remy Ma. This cameo led to a deal with Def Jam Recordings that was brokered by Teflon’s long time friend, DJ Premier. After a turbulent transition within the company, Teflon’s Def Jam debut failed to see the light of day, and the Brooklyn rapper took a much needed hiatus from the industry, where he would return in 2023 with his well-received sophomore LP, 2 Sides To Every Story, produced by both DJ Premier, along with talented up and comer, Jazimoto.

Releasing now for well over a decade - Neue Grafik: known to friends as Fred, has successfully transplanted from Parisian rookie to one- man London Institution. Beginning as a solo producer and DJ,Fred spread his wings upon relocating to South London - at first with his Neue Grafik Ensemble and later with his now iconic twice-weekly Orii Jam - the latter of which has given agency to an entire new generation of musicians; spawning an aesthetic, nurturing a unique sound and becoming a launchpad for countless artists.

Dalston Tape Volume 1 is Fred’s attempt to fall back in love with beatmaking - taking it back to the roots of where the project began. I say “attempt” because he’s simply learnt too much and made too many friends along the way to make a mere DIY beat tape. Since his early MPC-led productions on Parisian label, Beat X Changers, Fred has learnt to play the keys to a concert hall standard, he has become proficient in double bass and built up a dense network of collaborators who he has composed, recorded, engineered and produced for both at home in SE London and in the iconic Total Refreshment Centre Studios in Dalston.

This experience adds unavoidable dimensions to his toolbox - resulting in something more akin to a miniature-magnum-opus than a simple beat-tape.

Yes, we hear the influences of Pete Rock, Mad Lib, J Dilla and Al Dobson Jr but we also hear the musicality of D’Aneglo, James Blake and live contributions from an ever growing army of young graduates of the Orii School.

Berlin-based beatmaker FloFilz is gearing up to unveil his latest musical journey "handful" via Cologne beat label casual low grind this summer. With a career spanning over a decade, FloFilz has earned international acclaim for his distinctive production, capturing the attention of listeners worldwide.

His new release serves as a culmination of 10 tracks crafted over a two-year period, showcasing FloFilz's skill as an artist. Collaborating with both longtime friends (Hubert Daviz, Wun Two) and new musical companions (Rob Araujo, Hnny, Gabiga), the record reflects his diverse influences and experiences, including a stay at a songwriting camp in France in late summer '23. The impressive roster of internationally renowned producers and the additional feature by talented Los Angeles-based singer Kallitechnis, adding a dynamic dimension to the project.

Renowned for their distinctive contributions to the global lofi beat scene, Wun Two and Made in M, two of Germany’s most delicate producers, announce their collaborative album, "Sole Spirito," set to release on June 28th, 2024.

With careers spanning over a decade, both Wun Two and Made in M have left an indelible mark on the genre, pioneering its raw yet chill aesthetic. Der letzte seiner Art ist immer noch da! Kein Corona, keine geschlossenen Clubs, kein Hamburger Weg bei der Rückforderung von Hilfsgeldern, keine Musikbranche in der Dauerkrise kann ihn aufhalten: Man hätte dem letzten Breitmaulnashorn Bullen Sudan die gleiche Resilienz gewünscht, die Michael Whitelov aka DJ Stylewarz bis heute an den Tag legt.

Seit Sommer 2023 versorgte der gebürtige Bremerhavener über die letzten Monate die deutschsprachige Rapwelt erneut mit monatlichen Singlereleases. Nach dem 2019er Album „Der letzte seiner Art“ und „Mein Weg“ aus dem Jahre 2022 bündelt Stylewarz diese Singles nun auf dem Album „Hall of Fame“. Blickt man auf die Tracklist, kann man sich einer Sache sicher sein: Stylewarz bleibt seiner Linie als Producer treu und pickt die gecoverten Artists nach der lieb gewonnenen Tradition „Style over Fame“.

Nach dem Intro wartet bei „Family Biz“ mit Umse bereits der erste Protagonist hinter dem Mikrophon, der dieses Castingkriterium vollständig erfüllt. Über einen von einem Streichersample getragenen Beat philosophiert Umse wiederum über die Castingkriterien seines Inner Circle, seiner Family, die mit ihm zusammen sein Rap Biz trägt. Eine Hommage an seinen Bruder, die mit der Refrainzeile „… ich habe jederzeit die allerbesten Menschen um mich!…“ im Ohr hängen bleibt.

So verwundert es dann auch nicht, dass mit Flo Mega und D-Flame zwei weitere Rapper auf diesem Album vertreten sind, die ohne weiteres zu den Best Buddies von DJ Stylewarz gezählt werden dürfen. „Wegweiser“ heißt das catchy Rootsreggaebrett und lässt die Augen von jedem Yardi leuchten. Stylewarz’ gemeinsame Gigs mit den Hamburger Reggaelegenden von Silly Walks haben hier definitiv ihre Spuren hinterlassen. Trockene Offrhythm Snares gepaart mit Hammondorgel-Sequenzen verleihen dem Hamburger Frühling einen Hauch von Kingston, während Flo Mega den Refrain im feinsten Singerstyle präsentiert.

Und während der Booty noch am Twerken ist, wartet nur einen Track später mit „Message“ eine physiotherapeutische Herausforderung für jeden Nacken. Heliocopta aka die eine Hälfte der Kölner Rapcombo Peti Free reißt ab. Zornige Punchline über einen trockenen BoomBap Beat funktionieren sowohl mit 50er Kurzhanteln in der Hand als auch in der Karre am Strip und versorgen einen mit ausreichend Energie für den Rest des Tages.
Lange her, dass „Mies, Digga!“ so auf einen Track zutraf wie hier bei „Message“!

Ähnliche Banlieus Vibes bekommt man im weiteren Verlaufs des Albums nochmal bei „Crier ou se taire“ serviert. Trocken an Pianomelodien spitten die Brüsseler Legenden CNN199 über den Beat, und auch wenn man des Französischen nicht mächtig ist, catcht einen der Flow der beiden belgischen MCs sofort und lässt den Kraftausdauertest der Nackenmuskulatur in die nächste Runde gehen.

Mit „Hall of Fame“ setzt Michael Whitelov sein nächstes musikalisches Ausrufezeichen. Ebenso vielfältig wie in seinen DJ Sets präsentiert sich der Wahlhamburger in seinen Producerskills. Von BoomBap über Reggae bis hin zu Uptemponummern ist alles dabei, was das „2 Turntables & a Mic“-Herz höherschlagen lässt. Denn auch die übrigen Trakcs wie „Fresh“ mit L.A.A.S oder „Hall of Fame - Bounce Edition“ mit Ferris MC reihen sich in dieses Album ein, das einen gute 45 Minuten euphorisch mitnicken lässt. Die Bremen-Bremerhaven Connection, die aktuell landauf, landab die Livebühnen der
Republik abreißen, hat sich hier noch eine kleine Besonderheit für ihre Fans einfallen lassen. Der HOF-Track ist ebenfalls auf Ferris’ neuem Album vertreten, hier allerdings als „Hall of Fame - Monster Edition“!

Hall of Fame ist ein Album, das sich mit „Fühl’ ich“ zusammenfassend beschreiben lässt: Rap, wie er sein muss. Wahlweise deep oder dreckig, aber immer straight und on point. Oder um es mit den Worten von Stylewarz zu sagen - I feel (Track 10)!

Acclaimed Jazzbeat-Producer FloFilz teams up with experimental HipHop/Jazz quartet Bokoya for collabo album Yurika on Melting Pot Music. At least this was the case when Bokoya and FloFilz entered Atelier 21 in Aachen (a Produzentengalerie für globale Kunst) for a musical encounter with no goals set. The music that was born out of these sessions is simply amazing and we are more than happy to release them as an album under the name “Yurika” - which is a Japanese name that means “beautiful lily”. The artwork was created by Jens Roth & Jeremias Diekmann who are responsible for almost all Bokoya artworks yet. The 19-track strong instrumental album includes one vocal track featuring Japanese singer Kan Sano. FloFilz is one of Europe's most acclaimed Jazzbeat-producers with four albums on MPM under his belt. His last album “Close Distance” came out in 2022 an featured artists Alfa Mist, Blue Lab Beats, Jerome Thomas and Summers Sons. FloFilz is a classical trained musician who not only plays the SP 404 but also violin. Bokoya describe themselves as a four-headed human drum machine that play improvised beat music. You can call it jazz if you like (all four members are graduated jazz musicians ) but be ready to stumble over some Dilla, Kraut Rock, Ambient or Dub in the mix. In 2022 Bokoya released their second album Hausensession on MPM , followed by a collabo album with Cologne-based producer Ginanni Brezzo (Jakarta Records) called „Minari“.

The same energy translates to their live shows - regular tour de forces in beat-focused jazz that, although the melodic cheerfulness might deceive new listeners, often end up in high-octane fusion workouts with crowds and musicians alike on their feet.

For their first collaborative project, Str8 Shot, Gary "Sivion" Watson and Maurice "malex" Alexander aim, fire and spit with a barrage of hard-hitting Hip Hop that will inspire new and old heads alike. Across the beats and rhymes, the duo showcases kin-like chemistry, which extracts depth from simplicity. The opening salvo on Str8 Shot is like a special ops assignment meets manifesto. Heavy Gunner introduces MALEX's spaced-out Blade Runner-esque bounce, where Sivion shoots for the stars while swinging "a hot sword of the spirit". The experimental production and Sivion's staccato style sound like a chauffeur-driven ride in the Delorean from Back To The Future. All three pilots plot a flight course to a higher level of mental liberation. MALEX's mischievous bleeps and blips encapsulate push-and-pull energy. "baseline Cavi" is a collaboration album between Inland Empire/Los Angeles rapper Trizz and producer Mike Summers (aka Seven) from Kansas City. The album has that classic Westcoast Hip-Hop sound and the intro track gives that feeling right away. Guest features on the album are from Bino Rideaux, XV, T.F, Icecoldbishop, John Givez and Bale. Though fans may not know it, this collaboration between Inland Empire California emcee Trizz and Kansas City production ace Mike Summers has been brewing for close to a decade. Back in 2013 Summers (then known as Seven) was already a prolific producer signed to Tech N9ne's Strange Music label and Trizz was part of horrorcore legend Brotha Lynch Hung's Madesicc Muzic roster. The two connected while working on Lynch Hung's "Mannibalector" album and a spark for future work was laid. Linking up in spring of last year, the two creatively fed off each-other with the resulting album evoking classic West Coast melodicism and car-rattling thump. As Trizz states "this sh*t is so f*ckin authentic. It got bounce, it’s swangin' and bangin! When you hear this album, you can feel it and damn near smell the palm trees and bomb ass weed." As Summers relayed "It's probably different for a lot of my fans to hear a more classic West Coast style of production from me, but that style of production has always been embedded in my sound. I grew up on 90's West Coast Hip-Hops studying producers like DJ Quik and Dr. Dre. The only reason I started using lots of live musicians on my tracks was because I watched Quik do it. Baseline Cavi really let me dig into that classic L.A. sound that I've always wanted to build with." The collective has completed many tours together, and its debut album Escape From New York comes across as a collection of high level cyphers from Joey Bada$$, Nyck Caution, Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, Flatbush Zombies & more. Not surprising as the Brooklyn natives, a lot of them friends since childhood, have never shied away from the lyrics-centered tradition of New York hip-hop.

Their distinctive voices and skills on the mic, as well as NY-centric storytelling drive the album, and the chemistry is undeniable. The production is tight, but this is also where the supergroup shifts away from musically, perhaps what the title of the project is alluding to. Erick Arc Elliott, Power Pleasant, Sam Wish, and Tyler Dopps lay down slick, bouncy instrumentals as opposed to boom bap, and it's refreshing and fun to hear the group expand its sound.
