Where his recent work has ventured deep into the hitherto unexplored avant-garde reaches of contemporary electronic music, jazz and hip-hop, FlyLo’s score to renowned anime creators Studio MAPPA’s Netflix original series Yasuke — on which he also acts as story consultant and executive producer — sees FlyLo eschew his digital maximalism with rumblings of traditional instrumentation, sweeping romanticism and widescreen cinematic scope.

Broadening the canvas of show creators LeSean Thomas and Takeshi Satou’s alternative-historical Sengoku period of magic and swordplay, with a soundtrack of Morricone-style epic tones, traditional Japanese percussion instruments and West African percussion, the feudal yet futuristic world of Yasuke is summoned.

The drum-driven drama of ‘Your Armour’ and ‘Your Lord’ simmer with synth flutes, strings and koto, as the bubbling arps of ‘War Lords’ recall the cyberpunk noir of Vangelis’ Blade Runner score, while frequent collaborators Thundercat and Niki Randa, also make an appearance in this parallel universe.

Another spellbinding FlyLo release even without the stylish animations of the show, Yasuke is set to be one of Ellison’s most prized releases.

On 11 October 2010, Brainfeeder released the debut album by a 23 year old ex-skater, painter and music producer from Chino Hills called Teebs (real name Mtendere Mandowa). The title 'Ardour' means great enthusiasm, love or passion and was a fitting descriptor for his inherently warm, lushly textured beats. It’s an undisputed classic in the Brainfeeder canon and more widely considered an essential chapter in the ever-evolving puzzle of the global “beat scene”.

Brainfeeder and Teebs are celebrating the 10th anniversary with a limited special edition reissue of this landmark record. Pressed on deep pink 2LP and housed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve with artwork by Teebs himself, the new edition features six previously unreleased bonus tracks.

With roots at the ‘My Hollow Drum’ collective, Dublab and Low End Theory, Teebs has been a staple in Los Angeles music. “My creative family in LA is so important,” he explains. “It’s a part of who I am when I step outside and how others in LA view me. Jay Worthy, the Lndn Drgs front man, originally hails from Compton and -- along with frequent collaborators like Kamaiyah and G Perico -- he's part of a new crop of rappers that keep the sound and feel of the '90s G-funk era alive However, after moving to NYC for a period of time he linked up with NYC producer Harry Fraud (Smoke DZA, Curren$y, Meyhem Lauren, French Montana, etc). Fraud is a real New York kinda guy, but it turns out he's also really good at crafting the kind of West Coast-style bounce that Jay Worthy is perfect for. Initially, Worthy and Fraud got together to record the songs “Uncle Brad” ft. ElCamino and “Backpage Freestyle” ft. Grafh & Daytona, both of which are included on “Two4One”, Worthy’s first solo project, released as a series of two single collaborations in 2020, and via Get On Down on both colored and black vinyl. However, these bi-coastal collaborators didn’t stop there and they soon found themselves recording enough songs for an entire project of their own, with Worthy penning his lyrics in Harry’s Brooklyn based studio at the same time Harry was producing the music for what became “Eat When You’re Hungry, Sleep When You’re Tired”, their seven song project (ep) featuring Larry June, Guapdad 4000, ElCamino (Griselda), G-Perico, Band Gang Lonnie Bands and Big Body Bes. It's been four years since Sweatbox Dynasty, the fourth solo LP from Pennsylvanian experimentalist Tobacco. In that time, Tom Fec's project has toured with Nine Inch Nails, provided the theme song to HBO series Silicon Valley, and teamed with Aesop Rock for a collaborative album as Malibu Ken. He now returns to Ghostly International for Hot Wet & Sassy, a full-length album oozing with his most playful and approachable songs to date, which, conversely, express notions of antilove, self-hate, and disappointment in others. Pop impulses have always surged beneath the surface of his sound - blown-out bass, analog synths, drum machines, and Fec's unmistakable analog gurgle and hiss - here they've bubbled to the top. "I feel like it's the most I've been able to refine what I'm doing," says Fec. "For the past decade I've had this motherfxcker on my shoulder that makes me pick away at structure and melody. Purposely covering up moments because I can. That really came to a peak on Sweatbox. So I wanted the opposite this time. Write the songs without ripping them in half. I went from 'what would the Butthole Surfers do?' to 'what would Cyndi Lauper do?'" And what would Trent Reznor do? Fec found his answer straight from the source. Their collaborative track, "Babysitter," fuses their voices into one deranged presence: "I'm the new babysitter," they alert, before pivoting into a menacingly saccharine bridge. The track tumbles on a tom fill, then a punishing synth line rips into a cacophony of drums and feedback like a lawnmower gnawing through the living room carpet. "This was new for me, but I wanted to write a song that was everything I am and have been, and then like one notch further. Trent was the notch further," adds Fec. The collaboration is a work of alchemy seamlessly blending Tobacco's trademarks with Reznor's industrial rust and sonic gore. Downcast, sincere, woozy, "Jinmenken" might be the closest Fec has come to a ballad. "Maybe you can find me down the line," his vocoded delivery bounces along the beat. "It's me trying to write a Jets song," says Fec. Album opener "Centaur Skin" presents the stylistic concoction that has been the Tobacco MO from the beginning, crossing dreamy melodic shimmer with the sinister tones and slime. This has become easier to digest, but also far more potent. A motorik beat steadies the track's galloping arpeggio, acting as a springboard for Fec's dark ruminations as well as an uncharacteristically crystalline synth solo. "It's my feel good self hate anthem. Don't worry, I'm good. It was fun to write." Tobacco hasn't been reinvented, but it has been refined and distilled. Brighter, sharper, and far more dangerous because of it. Hot Wet & Sassy is practically staring at the sun without shades and feeling those corneas roast. Everything looks good as your vision fades. The pop-forward structures exert their undeniable hooks with baneful precision, pulling listeners into their clutches; once there, sugary melody rewards submission.

Mit Donvtello holen sie sich niemand geringeren als den Lieblingsrapper deiner Lieblingsrapper ans Mic. Mit seiner einzigartigen Stimme, dem Flex, für den andere töten würden, und den Double Times par excellence, komplettiert er die neue heilige Dreifaltigkeit der Straße.

Viele schlaflose Nächte später erblickt die fünf Tracks umfassende EP „Geeked“ das Licht der Welt. Über AlphaMobs Label Alpheus Recs. präsentiert das Trio ihre Interpretation des Südstaaten Sounds, der jeden der Protagonisten auf seine ganz eigene Weise geprägt hat. Dabei thematisiert er ungeschönt sein eigenes Leben als everyday Hustler zwischen Hartz4 und der großen Bühne.

Eine Liebeserklärung der besonderen Art macht Donvtello seinen Jungs in der ersten Singleauskopplung „Dopeboys“. Der partytaugliche Track vereint die schleppende Eleganz des Memphis- Sounds und das treibende Vocal-Stakkato ala Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in Perfektion. Und während der Master of Ceremony erklärt, warum er keine Zeit hat,
sondern 24/7 high ist und mit den Dopeboys abhängt, überkommt einen das unbändige Verlangen, den Lautstärkeregler aufzureißen und die Autofenster runter zu kurbeln - so sehr nach lauer Sommernacht gepaart mit einer astreinen take-no-Bullshit-Attitüde schmeckt der Sound.

Ebenso lecker, bzw. „Juicy“ ist die zweite Single. Eine Hommage an die Traumfrau, der Donvtello „hintererläuft wie Goofy, denn ihr body ist so juicy - er ist eine Gefahr“. Die selbstbestimmte Queen von der Straße, die einen Fick auf Oberflächlichkeiten gibt und ihr eigenes Ding durchzieht, ist für Donvtello ebenso faszinierend wie beängstigend, denn: „spirituell sind wir auf einer Ebene, ich glaube, sie bricht mir das Herz“. Eine waschechte Liebesgeschichte aus der Hood inkl. Twerk-Sessions im Club, abwesenden Vätern und der richtigen Frau mit dem richtigen Musikgeschmack.

Komplettiert wird die „Geeked“ EP von den drei weiteren dynamischen Tracks „Weißes Laken“, „Ja ich dip“ und „Wieder wach“ mit den Gastfeatures von Tamas und Fruchtmax. Dumi Right and the late Cadence of Raw Produce were frequent collaborators who connected after becoming label mates on the fledgling Domination Records. This led to a number of incredible creative works including a project called Alternate Reality. While much of their work has since seen the light of day, this song remained, unheard and locked in the vault until now. Produced by Cadence, “Opposite Day” features each MC hilariously playing the role of a rapper rhyming about things totally contrary to what they would do in reality. The song highlights all too common contradictions inherent in much of the commercial rap that is popular today.
The “Nightfall” is another dope track by Dumi Right that features Mr. Lif in a cautionary tale about working to not get caught up in negative cycles. Nightfall serves as a metaphor for falling victim to the darkness and self destructive activities that would lead one down a dead end path.

So, you might have two questions.

1. What is ecovinyl?

If a records get pressed in different colorways, chemics are used to clean up the machine and interrupt the process. When using the ecovinyl way, those chemics are not used and the next color balls are just thrown in close to the finish of the colorway that is pressed before. In this case they pressed black before white, so the vinyl will not be 100% white but each vinyl will be unique thanks to the process. So the first record pressed as white will have a big black influence and will turn out partly black, grey, white, the last one will be entirely white.

2. Who is Natia The God?

Raised in North Inglewood on the Wu bible, but blessed with a musicality that fits into the sound of the new West Coast, Natia sounds starkly apart.

"Uhuru" is the debut album by Summers Sons & C.Tappin from London and Bristol.
The journey of this album started back in 2015 and was inspired by the people and
places of Tanzania. After three years of channelling the vibe into beats and bars, it is
finally here!
Summers Sons are Turt (rap) + Slim (beats) who are actually brothers. They are
longtime friends with vocalist and pianist C.Tappin. Their music can be described as
rap with a lot of jazz. We like to call it cool bap.
Turt first got into hip-hop through Grime but also cites UK wordsmith Jehst as a
major influence. Slim was doing UK Garage for a while, when his brother asked him
for some more chilled beats to rap to. Tappin came up in a musical family, picked up
the piano as a kid and played in indie bands.
With such diverse backgrounds Summers Sons and C.Tappin are not your average
rap group. They would actually rather name their crew a band. Which makes total
sense when you catch them live. Slim slices up the beats on his SP404. Tappin gets
busy on the keys and adds vocal harmonies while Turt holds down the vibe on the
mic, spitting lyrics with a message.
Still only in their early twenties Turt, Slim and Tappin are somehow old souls when it
comes to music. If you listen to "Uhuru" you are unmistakably reminded of the
Soulquarians school of fusing hip-hop, soul and jazz. Follow the Sons' "Road To
Uhuru" playlist on Spotify and you are treated with gems from D'Angelo, Dilla, Badu
and Bilal back to back with new UK Jazz tunes from Alfa Mist or Ezra Collective.
Rounded up with a selection of dusty beats from German beatmakers like Hubert
Davis and Twit One. On their own songs Summers Sons and C.Tappin are
connecting these dots in their very own style and fashion.
While Slim had already released beats on Banoffee Pies and Brownswood, Turt and
Tappin made their official debut on the "Hay Luv" album by Twit One , who they had
met when he played a DJ gig in Bristol some years ago. With the release of the
Summers Sons' "Undertones" EP on MPM in early 2018 the London - Cologne
connection became official. The six tracker introduced the sound of the Summers
and Tappin to a bigger audience and included remixes by FloFilz and Twit One.
