Madlib follows 420 Chalice All Stars: All Jamaican Sounds with the fifth installment in his Madlib Medicine Show, History of the Loop Digga: 1990-2000. Back in the 90s, "beat tapes," as a Hip Hop producer's demo-reel is now quaintly referred to, were literally that: cassette tapes of beats that a producer made either for himself, his friends, or for potential collaborators. Mainly influenced by "the most beautiful ugly sound in the world,” introduced by D-Styles in "Phantazmagorea" in 2002, DJ Swet (Spain) has been perfecting his artisanal music production method for over fifteen years, exploiting the art of turntablism to orchestrate his soundtracks through scratching. After meeting Milano Constantine in person in the summer of 2018, and collaborating on "Body Bags" (Swet's latest work, alongside N-Wise Allah), it is now with Milano himself that he shares this album.

In “Block Work” Milano Constantine paints Spike Lee like scenes with strokes of psychological terror over the brittle and crumpled musical canvas provided by the Barcelona native Dj and producer. With the street cred of an OG and the hunger of a rookie, in "Block Work" the Manhattan emcee and Ditc affiliate eloquently recounts the experiences, feelings and visions of a runner (metaphorically and visually depicted by Rubens Ziontifik as a chess pawn), who gets involved in all sorts of situations caused by crime and illegal activities taking place throughout the blocks.

The album is completed with vocal interventions by Dano and N-Wise Allah, arrangements by Peter Party, guitar by Enric Peinado (track3), trumpet by Raynals Colom (track5), additional drums by Hoss Benitez (tracks 8 and 9), Rubens Ziontifik’s artworks, and mixing and mastering by the recently Latin Grammy nominated Harto Rodríguez. "Block Work" is edited and distributed by the Barcelona based label Architechs Records.

The Content Label, Los Angeles’s ‘experiential’ hip hop imprint, rarely signs an artist based on a demo, but an impressive delivery from Japan recently broke the trend. Recorded by Salty – AKA Tokyo-based producer / videographer Naoya Ninomiya – the demo arrived as a nearly complete object, ready for dissemination to the global hip-hop headz-space. The songs have been mastered by legendary Japanese hip-hop studio engineer ‘The Anticipation Illicit’ Tsuboi and, with Dday One acting as executive producer it is now ready to be unveiled as the thirteen track album Camera. It’s a fantastic audio journey that gives a glimpse into Japanese beat-making prowess while sitting proudly within the instrumental hip hop echelon. With “Camera”, Salty showcases a diverse set of styles and an acumen for rhythmic patterns and tone, developed through his years of crate-digging and experimentation. And there are many moments to claim as highlights … “Remonoganac” with its gentle piano, atmospheric textures, and tough beats; the laid-back hip hop funk and scratches of “ADSL”; the smoky downtempo vibe of “The Sea Came At Midnight” is reminiscent of sounds of classic Dj Krush; and “Melting In The Dark” with its cinematic layers and haunting vocal. These all qualify for honors, among other possible choices. With Camera, a compelling portrait of Salty as a rising star on the beat-making scene has emerged and The Content Label is on the case.

Twin brothers and MCs Linkone and Eyekonik make up the acclaimed Greek hip hop duo Twinsanity. Something of a man of mystery, UZ emerged into the world of constantly evolving bass music back in 2012, and his intense musical creativity has kept fans guessing ever since. Widely considered one of the founding fathers of the floor-shattering trap sound that has taken the world by storm, UZ’s innovative approach to production and impeccable reputation as a tastemaker has kept him on top of the pile for the past five years.
2017 is possibly set to be the biggest year to date for this artist, having built such a tangible platform for himself over the past couple of years, both as a DJ and producer. Reaching five full years in the game this April, a giveaway of material from 2012-2015 hit well over 600,000 downloads – showing the consistent demand for fresh “Trap Shit” sounds, including the series of 25 tracks that fell under the same name. The likes of SPIN, Complex, Billboard and Hypetrak have offered their full support since the start, pushing his vision to a wider audience. UZ counts official remixes for the likes of Flosstradamus, Zeds Dead, 12th planet, Birdy Nam Nam, Ice Cube, Elliphant, GIA, Alvin Risk and DJ Shadow in his arsenal, whilst in 2013 he was commissioned to make a very special mixtape for Red Bull Academy.
