Pressed on Double colored vinyl in a gatefold jacket with 25 Year Anniversary commemorative OBI limited TO 2000 Copies Big Pun remains on the best rappers ever list to this day. Reasons for this weigh largely on his debut Capital Punishment which was released 25 years ago on April 28, 1998. His commanding voice and rapid fire delivery make it clear there will never be another Big Pun. Pun was New York. His confidence on the mic made him stand out among his contemporaries. Similarly, the production -- by a cast of many – remains ever so New York loyal. The close cousins "Im Not a Player" and "Still Not a Player", may have been the hits off this album but it is packed with so many more that show Pun's true abilities.

"Beware" and "Dream Shatterer" are great examples of Big Pun at his best, dark cinematic production with just enough room to let him breathe fire. On "Twinz (Deep Cover)" Big Pun is trading bars with his mentor Fat Joe over a remake of Dr. Dre's classic beat. Here Pun delivers one of his most quoted verses that contains among others "Dead in the middle of Little Italy little did we know that we riddled some middlemen who didn't do diddly." The fourth studio album by the legendary Boogie Down Productions. Originally released in 1990 this album features production from D-Nice as well as KRS-One himself. KRS’s unmatched lyricism comes correct over hard boom bap beats as he touches on topics that include materialism, racism, police corruption and violence and more. So it’s fitting that many of the skits - billed here as “exhibits” - feature civil rights pioneer Kwame Ture (previously known Stokely Carmichael) as to complement the conscious lyricism of KRS-One. And this bad boy stitches together vintage vocal loops, rare breaks, library records and obscure samples along with remixes of Stetsasonic, O.C., Tanya Winley, Jurassic 5, Edan, Nas, ODB, Gang Starr, Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud (any one of which would be straight fire on 7″or 12″) along with pretty much whatever the hell else he wanted to put on there. Pressed at 45 rpm, this one features two differently-coloured slabs of wax: one mauve and one blue while even the centre labels and cover art get in on the cut n paste vibe having been created by hand by Krash homie Saleem Andrew McGroarty. As with previous such efforts from the KS camp, there will be no re-press! Sleep at your peril.

Divinity is a sci-fi dystopian odyssey produced by Steven Soderbergh and helmed by visionary director Eddie Alcazar. Set in the distant future, scientist Sterling Pierce dedicated his life to the quest for immortality, slowly making progress developing a serum named Divinity. Jaxxon Pierce, his son, now controls and profits from his father’s once benevolent dream. Society on their barren planet has been entirely perverted by the supremacy and pervasiveness of the drug. Two mysterious brothers arrive with a plan to abduct the mogul, and with the help of a woman named Nikita, they set on a trajectory hurtling toward true immortality.

Amidst the film’s extraordinary tapestry of stark aesthetics and themes, the score is a ten ton barbell of sonic weight. Crafted with 8-bit samplers, Wavestation synths, extended choir and string techniques, the soundtrack manages to swing wildly between the arenas of both music and sound design. Like all rich soundtracks, listening to the score on its own re-conjures the imagery of the film in the screen of the listener’s mind, an aural experience that manages to encapsulate and pulse a matched intensity of the film.

Tracks like ‘The Brothers’ and ‘Reflective Dreams’ cascade Vangelis-esque tones, painting with broad strokes of cinematic grandeur and ethereal wonder. ‘Main Titles’ and ‘Infinity Techno’ conversely swing hard into relentless, punishing sonics; with brutal, pulsing energy representative of the twisted, relentless pursuit of immortality. A standout of the album is undoubtedly “Divinity 2 Infinity: The Odyssey,” featuring cult hip-hop hero and lyrical-savant Kool Keith. Written for the film’s end credits, the track is a satisfying throwback to the 90’s original soundtrack cut bespoke-tailored to the film’s narrative themes.

DJ Muggs and Dean Hurley’s synergy yields a soundtrack that takes Divinity beyond the screen and into a multi-dimensional experience, inviting its listener along uncharted aural terrain for an unforgettable odyssey in sound.

Intro is an American R&B group that emerged in the early 1990s. The group consisted of members Jeff Sanders, Clinton "Buddy" Wike, and lead vocalist/songwriter Kenny "G-Love" Greene. Benny The Butcher blazed a trail as an elite voice in rap’s underground to become a top artist in all of music. The prolific Buffalo, New Yorker has established two legendary (and concurrent) album series, broken bread with industry leaders, and twice reached the Billboard Top 40 albums chart as an independent. After breaking out of the Bay Area underground scene in the early 90s with I Wish My Brother George Was Here, Del The Funky Homosapien made a radical turn with his sophomore release, 93's No Need For Alarm. Casting aside the familiar G-funk vibe of his debut, perhaps as No Need was produced without the involvement of his cousin Ice Cube and The Boogiemen, he moved into a jazzier – some would say more East Coast direction with production by the Hieroglyphics crew of Domino, A-Plus, Casual and Del himself with contributions from the SD50s. The verbal content on No Need shifted as well, moving away from comic interludes and towards a focus on battle raps.

No Need For Alarm is one of the three Hiero Golden Age releases (along with Souls of Mischief's 93 til Infinity and Casual's Fear Itself). Though some critics are harsh on No Need For Alarm and claim it's not as strong an effort as Del's debut, many disagree and see this release as being the first where Del really stood out. Regardless of which side of the fence one falls on that topic, it's without doubt that No Need For Alarm has stood the test of time and remains a challenging and uncompromising follow up from one of the most talented and eccentrically gifted artists to to ever emerge from the world of West Coast hip hop.

The Lost Tapes originally released on September 23, 2002, is a compilation of Nas tracks he recorded from 1998 to 2001 during the recording sessions of I AM.. and Stillmatic. Several of the cuts were leaked and circulated on mixtapes, but were never properly mastered or commercially released until compiled for The Lost Tapes. The album features production by The Alchemist, L.E.S., Poke and Tone, Rockwilder, D-Dot and Precision.

When The Lost Tapes was finally released, it instantly made waves. Even with its collection of already-recorded and unused material, it managed to be cohesive and profound, propelling it to reach the status of a classic album. The Lost Tapes marked a crucial time in Nas’ discography, serving as a precursor to his 2003 album God’s Son. His development as an artist was certainly prominent during the making of The Lost Tapes, which allowed him to flourish and become one of the most successful and highly regarded hip-hop artists of all time.

Get On Down is proud to present this limited edition 20 year anniversary pressing of The Lost Tapes for the first time on vinyl since its original release in 2002.
