During the late 1970s, after No Wave pioneer Lydia Lunch met saxophonist James Chance, she began setting her angry and disjointed poetry to anti-music, founding her ground-breaking band Teenage Jesus and The Jerks with Lunch’s shouted lyrics matched by her non-conventional use of electric guitar. The group’s self-titled debut EP is a fast and furious affair, produced by Robert Quine of the Voidoids/Lou Reed, with future Nick Cave drummer Jim Sclavunos on bass and Bradley Field on minimalist percussion; steeped in aggression and audacity, it’s an awesome disc that rebuffs punk’s easy cliches and refuses to be categorized. This reissue also includes the ‘Pre’ EP and the tracks from the legendary No New York compilation. Essential!

Built up from improvised jams, the four cuts on Stand, Scatter defy neat categorization while spanning a wide breadth of genres. Opener “Forming Lines” features Drexciyan squelch, silky guitar, and bursts of live drumming; this sounds like a lot, but it coheres into a perfectly simmering stew of funk. “Choreography” preserves the aquatic vibes but bumps the tempo up into space disco territory, complete with laser bleeps and Moroder-esque pads. It’s a mark of Armbridge’s craft that closing track “No Floor” - a searing motorik synth punk jam that recalls Suicide at their finest - sounds not at all out of place, but rather serves as a logical conclusion to this illogical picture. Stand, Scatter drifts across genres but never loses its focus on the unorthodox groove.

Kevin Hendrick aka Middex is a musician and writer from London with a catalogue of cassettes, LPs and 7s dating back to 2015, including early releases on Polytechnic Youth and The Tapeworm.

Collaborations include a track with Malvern Brume for his Infant Tree label and with Marland Starkie, a soundtrack piece for a film work by artist Sop for the “Rooted Beings” exhibition at the Wellcome Collection, London.

2021 saw the release of the landmark ‘Let the Engine-Loud Apocalypse Play Havoc with your Soul’ on his own Demotic Brick label, a concise and concentrated collection of sound and feeling.

More recently, ‘Perpetual Skip’ was a project in two parts seeing The Outer Reaches label release the LP version in 2022. This was predated by a booklet edition, published by Makina Books, a collection of eleven prose poems. This was subsequently selected for inclusion in the UK’s National Poetry Library.

Hendrick’s work has always given equal footing to his words alongside a stark sound palette consisting of bass and grain with bright shards of melody where necessary; structures built on a foundation of noise, digidub and sounds gathered from his daily life.

Middex never rests and beyond ‘In Second Floor and Third Floor Story’, there’s more on the horizon after Hendrick undertook a Britten-Pears Arts residency in March 2023 which is fuelling a future project work of sound and words entitled "Fugitive Dust".

The grains appear greyscale. Looking closer, each is iridescent; with the potential to bloom (in spite of the agriculture). Follow the thread of shimmering bells, altering the air pressure. Up staircase. The denizens of this place, always just out of eye line. The Kleptomaniac, the Typical Male, the Wild Family. The Angels on a working breeze. The Been and the Gone. The Retching Birds. The Hyena up there. The Homophobic Neighbour. All leaving their impressions, heard but never seen. The third floor offers us shelter, though it is howling outside. Door after hall, after chamber, after corridor. Each cell filtering, through its own resonance to pure tones. The only way is onward, following the thread. Keeping a count as best you can....

Ready Ta Roll was a 90’s hip hop group from Jersey City, NJ. Mark “M.C. Supreme” Curry (Rapper/Producer) , Eric “Tysheen” Freeman (dj), Christopher “Rizzo” Warren (Hype-Man) & Joseph “Music Maestro J-Rule” Jenkins (Producer) released several singles including underground classics “The Real Hip Hop” & “Drug Game” between 1993 & 1994. The group’s single “Drug Game” was recognized by The Source magazine with a powerful write up praising them for the songs socially conscious lyrics. The music video was shot by then up and coming video director Hype Williams and debuted on Ralph McDaniel’ Video Music Box as well as Bet’s Rap City. The group parted ways in the late 90’s and Supreme who later changed his name to Chop Diesel went on to form a production collective called “The Dream Team”. Their production credits include Ali Vegas, AZ, Nas, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Diddy, Run-DMC, DJ Kay Slay, Teddy Riley, Dave Hollister & more.



This classic collection is now available on CD and will be limited to only 300 copies! The vinyl will be out in late Summer, along with some other insane 90's bangers.

The Field (later on known as the Killin' Field) were a duo out of Roxbury, Boston (also the home of Ed O.G.). They started out in the early 90's but didn't release their first release until 1996, the tape-only "Official Heavyweights" EP. In 1997 they dropped another tape-only release with "Big East Vol. 1" which is pretty impossible to find these days.



Out now on CD for the first time ever are those 1996-1997 sessions, limited to only 250 copies and fully remastered by Jee Van Cleef. The vinyl edition will become available in a few months.

1980’s Australia were a blistering inferno of totally great powerpop, garage- and punkrock bands. Hoodoo Gurus, Stems and Lime Spiders were on top of their game and labels like Waterfront and Citadel put out albums and 45’s that any serious music aficionado would die for.

The Spliffs formed in Townsville, a small city on the northeastern coast of Queensland in Australia. In 1986 they unleashed their debut 45. Recorded all by themselves and released DIY style they got some rave reviews and got to play Sidney, Melbourne and Brisbane opening for The Saints and Hoodoo Gurus. "In this band we're doing what each of us have always done: give it our all," he states plainly. "We work hard, and we have a lot to say. Having been friends with Queens Of The Stone Age and Danzig powerhouse drummer Joey Castillo for three decades, the two musicians had long admired each other's work, and their collaboration has been a long time coming. Following Castillo's suggestion of bringing in Nick Oliveri (Queens Of The Stone Age/The Dwarves) to handle bass duties, the lineup was complete. The songs that comprise Up In Arms manifested after the quartet plugged in and let the music speak for them. "We didn't decide to try to play anything, these are the songs that happened when we started jamming, and I love this band because there are no egos involved. Our goal is to make the best music possible, period. I love it when those guys contribute with melodies, etc., and I've even helped with some of the arrangements. Because we all think alike, our lyrics deal with the issues of the day, and that makes for better songs." Every track on Up In Arms lives up to the rallying cry of the album's title - the bursts of high energy hardcore act as the perfect accompaniment to Joseph setting his sights on injustice and the seemingly endless flaws of the contemporary world. The breakneck thrashing of "Slow Kill Genocide" is an anthem for everyone sickened by those responsible for "killing the planet and all its inhabitants through industry and war. They're fucking maniacs and must be stopped." The suitably titled "Manic" attacks with bared fangs, Joseph making it clear that you can only push someone so far before they will react with violence - a call to arms for the disenfranchised who want tomorrow's world to be better than today's. Tracked at NRG in Los Angeles, the raw, old-school production that leaps out from the speaker comes courtesy of producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Revocation), and the record was mixed by Kyle McAulay at NRG. From the moment the opening title track explodes to life, it's clear that everyone involved is having a blast and playing from the heart, and that this is no frills / no bullshit music at its most passionate - every song evoking mental images of utter chaos in a heaving mosh pit. For anyone approaching the album for the first time, Joseph has only this to say: "Turn the volume way the fuck up!" And with plans to tour everywhere, Bloodclot will be getting in a lot of faces in 2017 and beyond. "We are already writing material and the next album is in the works. But, for now, all we want is to hit the stage to support 'Up in Arms', and every single night leave every ounce of ourselves up there."

Rupture", Hifiklub new album - recorded during quarantine - with French producer Daffodil, experimental jazz trumpet player Reuben Lewis and Pearl JAM / SOUNDGARDEN’s drummer Matt Cameron. In a way, spring 2020 has offered us the luxury of time. Eight unforeseen weeks of creation during which french experimental rock band Hifiklub was able, on the one hand, to provide the single "Staying At Home" with Jad Fair (Half Japanese) for Joyful Noise Recordings compilation 'Safe In Sound - Home Recordings From Quarantine' but also, on the other hand, remotely record this brand new album with producer Anthony "Daffodil" Belguise, drummer Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) and trumpet player Reuben Lewis (I Hold the Lion's Paw). That, while reformatting the internal balance of the group, returning to an “open trio” formula - and no longer a quartet around permanent members Pascal Abbattucci Julien, Jean-Loup Faurat and Régis Laugier. All this, above all, by having only the means at hand in such circumstances. The instrumental character of this new discographic stage, made up of six distinct movements, is only shaken by rare vocal interventions supporting passages where the music becomes more intense. This real sound puzzle assembled by Daffodil reveals the darkness and modernity characteristic of his latest productions. His meticulous mixing work allows this 25-minute musical piece, thought of as a whole, to evolve in the sandstone of unexpected rhythmic and harmonic breaks during which the trumpet and electronic sounds constantly revive the machine.
