This the song's first official reissue and its first appearance pressed on a 45. Both songs packaged in full color double sided cover art.

Known to many as the group Y Society, Insight the Truncator and Damu the Fudgemunk celebrate 10 plus years of friendship and a creative partnership that hold the two in high esteem of their fans. The MC & producer's new 7" is a compelling display of why the duo have always been at the top of their game despite their reserved output since debuting as a team in 2007.

Surprising the world at the top of the year with their full length, "Ears Hear Spears" was a great way to sound the alarm for the excitement of new activity. Selective by nature, Insight and Damu's calculations have served advantageous in making moves and presenting listeners with the right music at the right time. The latest incarnation of this truth can be heard in the previously unreleased b-side track entitled "Pyramids to the Ghetto." Although it was recorded in 2008, it was archived and remained unreleased until now. Now in 2017 this particular song couldn't be any more relevant in how the artists analyze the effects racism of the past & present and its correlation to black plight throughout the Americas (both Insight & Damu drop verses on this track).

Continuing narratives of such legends as Public Enemy and Jeru the Damaja in which the track title quotes, the group individually presents short essays in rhyme form that give a candid account of what they've witnessed as black U.S. citizens living in the 20th and 21st Century. Not only are the social effects on the table for examination, but the positive and negative impacts a racist society has had on black contributions to art and culture are discussed. For the songwriters, "Pyramids to the Ghetto" is therapeutic in which harsh realities are confronted in an unapologetic manner contrasting the previous socially charged material in Insight and Damu's back catalog.

For the listeners, it's a history lesson and a call to motivate us all that history doesn't always have to repeat itself even when it's been the norm for centuries. Adversity and oppression historically have hold some back and made some stronger, but acknowledgement is the first step of progression.

The A-Side, "Never Off (On & On)" speaks on just that. It's a roadmap to dealing with everyday adversity, maintaining faith in self and striving to reach your full potential. Insight presents sermons of encouragement to the everyday person over the Fudgemunk's uplifting beat. The producer chimes in on the chorus with a few words of his own that insists to keep on your path and never fall off. The old saying goes, "Life ain't easy", but the group knows success is not unrealistic. "Never Off (On & On)" was the debut single from the debut album, "Travel at Your Own Pace" which has remained a staple in Insight the Truncator's and Damu the Fudgemunk's legacy.

The opening track City Chiller is a slap bass heavy venture into G funk tainted dance music that perfectly utilizes an uplifting intermezzo, before heading into it s chorus which is highlighted by loosely played synth notes and some interesting vocal shots that are so significant for LA music from by gone days. The version by fellow funketeer Moon B goes a different route. The slap bass has been altered into a deep and sophisticated bass pattern which acts as the spine of the version. The drums are somewhat more outlandish, and the pad that floats on top works perfectly with the glow of the synths.

Hold it down is a disco ish track that utilizes very smooth and soul touching elements that are built around various piano variations and a beautiful break with percussion in the fashion of Shuggie Otis Aht uh mi Hed .

Central Bank is keeping up the pace with a very hazy atmosphere and amazing vocals which ooze throughout. Very musical and warm. 135th is a piano track that again strikes the right chord for mellow week-ends in a park. Wayactive is closing down this extended effort with euphoric synths and uplifting chords.

Over the last decade or so Brightons Fujiya & Miyagi have been steadily building a vast body of work that explores 1970s Germany-tinged beats, whip smart electronica, intoxicating disco, shimmering pop and generally concocting an idiosyncratic blend of dance music that sounds utterly and uniquely their own. The group have decided to revisit their 2006 classic, Transparent Things, and for the first time release the full album on vinyl. Transparent Things managed to look deeper and further beyond the zeitgeist whilst simultaneously remaining in it. They explored krautrock music with a passion, grace and respect - creating a hybrid sound of music that felt deeply indebted to innovations of the past but was filtered through a deeply contemporary mind-set. The end result of the album was a sound for the dance floors of the past, the then and the future. “To understand the significance of the word ‘featuring’ on Featuring Pharoah Sanders And Black Harold, consider how infrequently Sun Ra used it and the exact way it had been used.

“The October Revolution in Jazz, organized by Bill Dixon in the West Village in 1964, presented a vivid cross section of approaches to the new music, including a sextet led by Ra. For the October Revolution’s continuation, titled Four Days in December, held at nearby Judson Hall on the last days of 1964, the Arkestra performance presented Pharoah Sanders as well as a flautist (who was and remained obscure thereafter) named Harold Murray, nicknamed Black Harold.

“It wasn’t until long after Sanders had achieved worldwide acclaim with John Coltrane that Ra and manager Alton Abraham decided to issue the music they’d recorded at Judson Hall. After its first release in plain or hand-decorated covers in 1976, Featuring Pharoah Sanders And Black Harold remained an exceptionally rare item in the El Saturn discography, known to a few lucky collectors.

How do you best describe Angel Olsen? Pittsburgh-born Phillip Ballou’s earliest years were spent in the gospel field; after he moved to New York City in the ‘70s, he teamed up with Bennie Diggs and Arthur Freeman, founding members of The New York Community Choir and singer Arnold McCuller to form the group Revelation. The quartet recorded for RSO Records, scoring some R&B success in the US with tracks like “Get Ready For This” and “You To Me Are Everything,” touring the Bee Gees among others. Phillip also sang on albums by NYCC recorded for RCA Records and continued with Revelation until 1982. Frequently hired for sessions in and around New York, Phillip teamed up with UK soul music journalist David Nathan (who he’d met in 1974 during Nathan’s first US visit) and John Simmons, formerly a member of The Reflections, another New York vocal group to write a series of songs for his own proposed solo record deal. Although a contract did not materialize, one of the songs – “Ain’t Nothing Like The Love” – got some interest from famed Philadelphia producer Thom Bell who presented it to The O’Jays. Ultimately, the tune was turned down by Kenny Gamble and John Simmons, by then musical director for Stephanie Mills, recorded his own version for a small independent label in 1981. Phillip continued his own musical journey, touring and recording with James Taylor and Todd Rundgren. In addition, Phillip’s name graced recordings by George Benson, Billy Ocean, Kashif, Nona Hendryx, Jonathan Butler, Teddy Pendergrass and Melba Moore; in 1981, he began recording with Luther Vandross and became a part of Luther’s touring band for many years, as well as singing on productions by Luther on Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick and others, continuing his association with him until Luther’s 2003 stroke. Phillip returned to his gospel roots in 2004 as Minister of Music at a Brooklyn church and passed away in March 2005, aged 55. Thanks to renewed interest in the John Simmons’ 1981 recording on YouTube, David Nathan has uncovered several tracks from the 1978 and 1979 he did with Phillip and John including Phillip Ballou’s original version of “Ain’t Nothing Like The Love,” gaining its first ever worldwide release as a 7” single on Nefer Records in association with Super Disco Edits

Although best known in the global music world for his four years (1984-1988) as the music director and bandleader for Whitney Houston, John’s tenure in the soul music field began when he was a member (with his brother Edmund ‘Butch’ Simmons) of The Reflections, a New York City-based quartet who toured from 1972-1975 as the backing group for the legendary Melba Moore. In 1975, The Reflections had a Top 10 R&B hit with “Three Steps From True Love.”

In 1978, John began touring with Stephanie Mills, at the same time collaborating with Phillip Ballou, a member of another New York-based vocal group, Revelation and UK soul music journalist David Nathan (who he met when Nathan did an interview with The Reflections for Britain’s “Blues & Soul” magazine in 1975). The trio wrote a number of songs for Ballou’s demo as a solo artist and while nothing transpired in that regard, John recorded his own version of one of the tunes, “Ain’t Nothing Like The Love” for a small independent Michigan label, Sabrina Records in 1981. John had worked with Cissy Houston at New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey where she was the minister of music was asked by her to do some initial promotional dates with her daughter Whitney after Arista Records released her first single in 1984; he continued doing world tours with Houston until he passed away at the age of 45 in March 1989.

The Ballou sessions (held mostly in Montclair, New Jersey) expanded into recording dates for both Nathan and Simmons. None of the original recordings were released commercially – until now. In the wake of the interest among rare groove collectors in John’s version of “Ain’t Nothing Like The Love,” Nathan – himself a recording artist since 2003 – has uncovered the tapes of all the material he, Phllip and John recorded in 1978 and 1979.

Gaining its first-ever release now on Nefer Records via Super Disco Edits is the coupling of John’s solo composition, the upbeat gospel-infused “Safe” and the midtempo, “I Wanna Be Closer,” another one of the songs also recorded (and thus far unissued by both Ballou and Nathan).

Dark Entries and Emotional Rescue team up to further explore Psychic TV’s Acid House years. Psychic TV was formed by Genesis P-Orridge and Peter Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle with Alex Fergusson of Alternative TV in 1981. After various line up changes, the band shifted direction to dance oriented songs influenced by the House and Techno scenes of Detroit and Chicago. By 1988 the group included Dave Ball of Soft Cell, Fred Giannelli of Turning Shrines and Matthew Best of Carcrash International. During the summer of 1988 the group recorded a batch of songs at Time Square Studios in London that would appear under the guise of various artists compilations Jack The Tab’ and ‘Tekno Acid Beat’. The idea behind these ‘compilations' of imaginary artists was creating a sense that a healthy acid house scene existed in the UK.
Virginia was the studio project of Dave “Mista Luv” Ball and then-wife Virginia “Gini” Ball, a classical violinist who toured and recorded with Siouxsie and the Banshees and Marc Almond. The duo had previous collaborated on Dave’s solo album ‘In Strict Tempo’ in 1983 and with the group Other People in 1984. The name "Blue Pyramid" was inspired by a photograph from Pink Floyd's album ‘Dark Side of The Moon’. Also at the time Dave was taking quite a lot of acid and came across some stuff ironically called "Blue Pyramid". Gini’s violin has an arabic feel, adding to the already bright and hypnotic dance rhythms. For this reissue we’ve backed the A-side with a remix from Bucharest DJ and producer duo Khidja who add more acoustic instrumentation for a world-beat psych-out. On the flip is San Francisco analog wizard Bézier who ups the tempo for some late-night peak NRG. The final remix comes from San Francisco producer and engineer Mark Pistel of Consolidated, Hercules & Love Affair, and Meat Beat Manifesto, who offers a slice of non-stop ecstatic dancing. All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The 12” is housed in a trippy, majorelle blue and purple die-cut sleeve with classic yellow Psychic TV skull label, all designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy also includes a 2-sided 6x6” square insert with a photograph by Fred Giannelli of the Emax disc for Blue Pyramid, and liner notes by Dave and Gini Ball.

Invisible City returns with the hotly anticipated reissue of “Amajovi Jovi” by Durban’s O.G. kwaito giant, Sandy B. Originally self-released on cassette and a white label 12-inch, rumour has it Sandy had to remake the tracks from memory because even he couldn’t find a copy.

In its original post-apartheid context, “Amajovi Jovi” was a sign of youthful subversiveness, rebellious creativity and a neck snapping rejection to the fascist groove of a silenced nation. While the Pantsulla hustler nods to house legends like Jamie Principle and Pal Joey, its hip hop breaks and interludes show a clear affection for Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle”. At its slowed down tempo however, this low-fi kwaito masterpiece turns away from its American influence and looks towards Baldelli and his cosmos. Best of all are Sandy’s vocals— deep, melodic Zulu rap, sung flippantly—the way that only a true gangster could. It now stands as one of the finest glimpses of 90s party music to ever be blasted at the underground parties of the South African townships.

candidate as demonstrated with her other cosmic cinematic itches with android music for
The Stepford Wives and The Incredible Shrinking Woman.

Clergy returns for its 9th instalment with a club ready EP of serious weapons from label mainstay, and one half of Works Unit, Reflec. The four track release opens with 'Acid Response', in which Reflec has combined a tough rhythm section with a growling 303 to create a high energy roller guaranteed to keep the dance floor moving. Continuing on this trend of heavy hitting rollers, 'Osmosis' is a drum track through and through, which incorporates dark and sweeping atmospherics into the groove true to Reflec's form.

The B side see's host to 'Canyon', a peak time Clergy anthem with heavy, driving drums complimented with a spacey and emotional pad on the breakdown. Clergy 009 is rounded off by a broken edit of 'Canyon' which exchanges the driving kicks for a fragmented rhythmic style, a nod to the UK roots of Reflec's musical style.

15 years ago, Ludovic Llorca was an up and comer in the French house scene but also somewhat adjacent to it, pulling his samples from low-key jazz instead of the glitzy disco numbers immortalised by Daft Punk. His critically acclaimed debut New Comer went largely under the radar but has retained a modest cult following, its chic, blissed-out mood something of an antecedent to the kind of sound now well-served by the folks at Mood Hut.
Longtime fans anticipating a fresh helping of jazz-oriented deep house will be surprised to the hear the The Garden is both stylistically and structurally different from Llorca’s earlier material. Funk and soul are to The Garden what jazz was to New Comer but rather than sample the classics, Llorca fashions new tunes in the style of the greats with the help of several guest vocalists, making this is very much a collection of songs rather than beats.
All Right conjures a sticky urban atmosphere with bluesy sustained piano chords that recalls Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On?, while Trigger Happy, with its squelchy synth lead, is an unmistakable nod to Stevie Wonder’s Superstition. Add to that list You, a jaunty finger snapping homage to the Jackson 5, and it’s obvious that The Garden is less an experimental reimagining of familiar sounds than it is a retro revival project along the lines of Dâm-Funk, and a good one too.
The record’s standout moment and black sheep however, is Waiting. The only track without a featured guest, it’s a noir-ish swagger of a groove is built around an irresistible bassline that keeps on giving. With its icy strings and descending minor chords, it’s sinister and strange in a way unlike anything else on The Garden and yet oozes the very essence of the funk.

eerie atmospheres mark the signature sound of German producer Shu and Belgian producer
