Snuffo, founder of the famous Acid House project Snuff Crew and man behind successful labels: Snuff Trax and In The Dark Again, is known to light up the clubs as a solo producer and live act. This album features two of his own tracks and remixes by Cool and Frank and Jin Cromanyon. the crowd going. The Cool and Frank remix then turns ?Dreams Fading Away“ into a very playful IDM tune with excellent twists. It’s musical brainfood in the best sense. The B-side flips things around, leading off with Japanese artist Jin Cromanyon's take on the title track of the E.P. His ?Electro Neon Mix“ of ?Ode To My Family“ brings a burst of joy and happiness to the dance floors - it's truly irresistible. Following on from Basement Jams #1, from all the way back in 2011, the boys bring us tracks with the same playful nature as before but, dare I say it, they go even harder this time. Stalwart fans of the first release can stop reading now because it will almost certainly be a blind-buy for you; four tracks obviously engineered for use in the club, whether its the massive kick in ‘What It Is’ or the ravey acid lead in ‘88cents’. The jams on the B-side may do the most damage. ‘Remember’ holds absolutely nothing back, with its arpeggiated bassline lead and crisper than crisp 909 drum programming. Analog is a term that gets bandied about all the time nowadays, ever since so many young producers became enamoured with tape compression and hiss delay plug-ins. I know Snuff Crew are real analog guys though, in sound and mentality, so hearing Basement Jams #2 for the first time had me so excited once again.

There was no doubt in Snorre Kirk's mind when he first heard clarinetist and saxophonist Giacomo Smith in London. He immediately knew he had met a man on the same musical wavelength. Then, on Giacomo's recommendation, pianist Joe Webb joined the party, and the stage was suddenly set for a change in Snorre Kirk's work and celebrated career as drummer, composer, and bandleader. The first meetings took place in 2019. The following year, the coronavirus put the music scene on standby, and it wasn't until 2023 that the quartet, which included Giacomo Smith, Joe Webb, Danish bassist Anders Fjeldsted, and Snorre Kirk himself, came together and became what would be his current and permanent primary project. What A Day! is the first release with the new line-up, and the quartet is complemented on three tracks by Alexander Bouton, who fills the role of rhythm guitarist in the same spirit Freddie Green did with Count Basie's band. People are listening and like what they hear - Snorre Kirk's music has palpable appeal. Over the years, his popularity has grown, and he often sells out concerts on European stages. His last album, Top Dog, was in the top 20 on JazzWeek's chart of the most played jazz releases on American radio stations in the Spring and Summer of 2024. Unreleased junkshop glam! It’s been a long, long time since we’ve released a split 7”. There’s an extremely good reason for this being a split 7”. These are are the only known songs by each of these groups. Both are Junkshop Glam sourced straight from the only known acetates from circa '74. Restored and mastered by Danilo Silvestri (Giuda). Snooty sounds a bit like a mashup of Harpo's “Teenage Queen” and Muff's “Sexy Lady”, while the flip side reminds us a bit of Pantherman vocal-wise. The late Nathaniel ‘Snoopy’ Dean is one of those many underrated southern soul and blues men who never reached great fame outside their home ground. His legacy is deeply treasured though by hardcore black music followers. In the late sixties he instigated the now very sought after group Third Guitar who recorded some great sides for the Rojac label out of NYC. He subsequently became a member of the Deep City Band and started recording under his own name. In the early to mid seventies Dean made five singles and an album Wiggle That Thing on Henry Stone's Blue Candle imprint which is being reissued here. The album - originally released in 1977 - contains a rare combination of deep, southern soul, funk and blues in such a way that the LP really does not fall straight in neither category. In the 80’s Snoopy Dean became a much in demand session musician as a guitarist in Miami and recorded at least two more albums that belong more in the blues and indie soul field. Unfortunately Snoopy Dean died in 1998 due to complications arising from diabetes. Still, it is this great LP Wiggle That Thing he will be always and best remembered for.
