The musician Roberto Enrique "Tito" Chicoma forged one of the most solid and constant career paths in Peruvian music. Self-taught, he started playing tenor saxophone in his father's orchestra, also playing the trumpet, piano or trombone when the occasion arose.In 1959, at the age of 23, Tito moved to Lima, where he soon joined ensembles such as the Koki Palacios and Armando Boza orchestras, which took him abroad for the first time on tour. A recognized musician in his own right, Tito would later decide to form his own orchestra, which was soon hired by América Televisión, starring on programs such as "El Show de Juan Silva", where he accompanied international artists that visited Lima.In 1966, Tito made his first record under his own name on the MAG label, performing two cumbias by the Colombian group Los Teen Agers. The praise the single received led to the recording of his first LP, "El ritmo de moda", where he continued to compile Colombian songs.At the end of 1967, he dedicated his new LP project to recording two fashionable rhythms at the time: cumbias y boogaloos. The Colombian cumbia became popular in Peru from 1964 onwards, when local orchestras like those of Andrés de Colbert, Mario Cavagnaro, Eulogio Molina and Lucho Macedo recorded cumbia hits, then the genre soared when groups like Los Pacharacos and Los Demonios del Mantaro mixed it with Andean music. Boogaloo in Peru was popularized chiefly by the record label MAG, which kept its listeners up to date with developments in tropical music in New York, releasing and distributing records by Alegre Records and recording versions of hit songs such as 'El pito' and 'Mamblues' with local musicians.The recording sessions for "Cumbias y boogaloos" began in December 1967, when Tito released one of his first compositions: 'Dale U'. Tiptoes makes a welcome return to SlothBoogie Records with a fresh four-track EP, entitled ‘The Akai Samurai Strikes Again’. Glasgow’s Tiptoes has long been a respected name in the Scottish electronic music circuit, bringing his eclectic style to the table as a DJ, blending everything from jazz to jungle, house to techno, garage, broken beat and many more genres. His productions are a nod to his many influences and once again with this EP were treated to an amalgamation of sounds. ‘Techno Woo’ leads the way and see Tiptoes embracing a filter house feel, merging a number of choppy funk licks, vocal chants, and bass lines in an ever-unfolding dynamic matter, while dusty drums carry the bouncy groove throughout. ‘Brotherman’ then tips the focus on to soul drenched guitar lines, brass melodies, snaking bass grooves and hypnotic vocal lines alongside loose, swinging percussion. Opening the flip side is ‘Mars Landings’, embracing a deeper house aesthetic courtesy of hazy Rhodes chords, swelling vocal loops and organic drums before ‘Strings’ rounds things out, as the name would suggest the composition is built around expansive string melodies, gritty bass stabs and sturdy, thunderous drums.

Time Cow & Ossia take 2 tracks from Jabu's 2020 album 'Sweet Company' into unfamiliar (and dance floor friendly) territory. Side A sees 'Us Alone' gets transformed by Time Cow from slo-mo tearjerker into syrupy disco wrecker, managing to somehow touch on reference points everywhere from east LA lowrider anthems through 00s garage and all propelled fwd by an eyeball shaking low end pressure. On the flip Ossia takes snatches of the original 'Slow Down' and flashes them in around a 4/4 and a synth melody, fragments of Daniela's vocal floating like a half remembered conversation. Later Rakhi's strings come in but in a more unsettling way than the original, eventually dissolving to a kind of Majora's Mask (in dub) conclusion. All terrain / all weathers - club / bbq / afterparty / late night introspection sessions.

On End Of The Universe EP, the two join forces to flex their creative muscles, together worth more than the sum of their parts. The debut release of Pola / Пола record label, founded as an extension of the Half club in Belgrade, which became one of the most prominent hotspots of underground music and culture in Serbia. The Owl Dance EP is composed and produced by Tijamara, the new electronic music duo formed by sisters Tijana and Tamara Ristić, with one remix by the eminent producer Alexis Cabrera.

The A-side is opened by the track Sisters, which is the introduction to Tijamara's world, filled with the contrasts of their personalities. The track Owl Dance will take you on a journey to their birthplace Kikinda, the small town in the north of Serbia, which has the largest long-eared owl roost in the world.

The B-side is dedicated to their Romanian roots and great-grandmother Rakila, after whom they named the track. The deep and wavy minimal sound, inwrought with Tamara's unique stylized singing, will make you feel the spirit of Banat prairie. Maestro Alexis Cabrera remixed this track and converted it into the Half's vibe of the rising Sun.

Our latest “Looking for Mushrooms” EP comes to us from a collaboration between long time Dirt Crew resident Tigerskin and gifted jazz pianist and composer Grambow. We first heard from Grambow when his fluid key stylings featured on Tigerskin’s “Faint” in 2015. The title track is a suspenseful and moody journey, lead by live double bass from feature artist “Das Eb". Building in intensity with Tigerskin’s warm production and steady percussive instrumentation until Grambow’s live lead on a gritty synth growls in over the top. A true modern electronic classic as far as we are concernred. “Tsukiji” is a playful deep house groover. Balmy tuned percussion and shaken highs roll along under the light hearted piano which cruises along throughout the whole tropically touched endeavour. This track has “Party” written all over it! “Octocat” is a tougher italo disco tainted work out, tightly programmed live and analogue percussive elements push along, while wailing keys lick over a tenacious grunting bass. You can really taste and feel the long studio sessions the guys had to compose this great track. It is so much more than generic dance music. “Red Fox” is a divine culmination of the pair’s compositional prowess and dance music knowhow. A cinematic and spirited house track that glides and glistens via delicate piano, plucky percussive riffs, bright strings and woodwinds. We are very honoured to release this outstanding musical release by Tigerskin and Grambow.

Having recently opened her account on Ubiquity Records with the brilliant, Bali-inspired single ‘Kete’, Rose Robinson returns as Tigerbalm with another snapshot of her forthcoming debut album, International Love Affair. As with its predecessor, ‘Waiheke’ gleefully blurs the boundaries between contemporary club music and the rising star’s love of rhythms and musical cultures from around the world.

All of the tracks on International Love Affair were specifically inspired by places Robinson has visited pre and post-pandemic. ‘Waiheke’ is no exception, with Robinson starting work on the track following an inspirational trip to the Flamingo Pier festival on Waiheke Island, New Zealand.

Once again, the track is rooted in the London-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist’s deep love of delay-laden 21st century disco, organic house and deep electronic club cuts. Pairing these influences with African-influenced percussion and sampled chants, Robinson delivers a sparkling fusion of Afro-cosmic and dubbed-out nu-disco rich in sparkling synth sounds and warm, weighty bass.

Appropriately, Robinson’s original Tigerbalm take on ‘Waiheke’ is backed with a wealth of inspired remixes tailored to tantalise and tease a variety of dancefloors.

‘Waiheke’, then, is another sublime single from an artist whose distinctive personal style is rightly winning plaudits from across the musical spectrum. Her soon-come debut album is one you won’t want to miss.

A keen traveller whose mindset and musical vision has been shaped by her experiences visiting different destinations around the globe, Robinson’s releases as Tigerbalm thrillingly combine her roots in dance music – Robinson has been DJing around her home city of London and much further afield for well over a decade – with rhythms, sounds and instrumentation inspired by all manner of indigenous musical cultures from around the world.

Tiger Stripes returns to Drumcode for his annual EP outing, crafting a pair of blue-ribbon dancefloor weapons inspired by the night. The Swedish artist is a cherished act on the label, his involvement with DC going back to 2009. One of the most creative in his field, he typically mines influence from across the musical spectrum. Indeed, a Tiger Stripes track could employ subtle nods to everything from rock and pop, to reggae and hip hop, all seamlessly integrated into a dynamic techno palette. For his latest outing, he's drawn on his love of classical music, specifically Chopin, for the powerful ‘Nocturne’. "I loved listening to his compositions as a toddler when my mother played her vinyl for me. I still love and listen to his piano music today and it might be where my taste for drama comes from. In my ears his music still sounds very modern and cool,” he tells. 'Nocturne' switches between driving dancefloor business and a lilting piano-laden break, the energy amplified by his peak-time arrangements.
