Less than a hundred miles inland from the capital city of Lima lies the great Peruvian jungle, an untamed land of impenetrable forests and endless winding rivers. In its isolated cities, cut off from the fashions of the capital, a unique style of music began to develop, inspired equally by the sounds of the surrounding forests, the roll of the mighty Amazon and Ucayali Rivers, and the rhythms of cumbia picked up from distant stations on transistor radios. With the arrival of electricity, a new generation of young musicians started plugging in their guitars and trading in their accordions for synthesizers: Amazonian cumbia was born.

Powered by fast-paced timbale rhythms, driven by spidery, treble-damaged guitar lines, and drenched in bright splashes of organ, Amazonian cumbia was like a hyperactive distant cousin of surf music crossed with an all-night dance party in the heart of the forest. While many of the genre’s greatest tracks were instrumental, and others were simple celebrations of life in the jungle, the goal of every song was to keep the party going.

Radio stations in Lima remained unaware of the new electric sounds emanating from the jungle, but a handful of pioneering record producers ventured over the mountain passes to the cities of Tarapoto, Moyobamba, Pucallpa – even Iquitos, a city reachable only by boat or plane – and lured dozens of bands to the recording studios of the capital to lay down their best tracks. Although many became local hits, few were ever heard outside the Amazonian region … until now. With eighteen tracks from some of the greatest names in Amazonian cumbia, Perú Selvatico is both the improbable soundtrack to a beach party on a banks of the Amazon and a psychedelic safari into the sylvan mysteries of the Peruvian jungle.

Formed in 1980 by guitar prodigy Leonardo Vela Rodriguez, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba created some of the hardest, craziest Cumbia to emerge from the Peruvian jungle. With distorted, surf-addled guitar facing off against lysergic organ and hyperactive tropical rhythms, Sonido Verde conjured the organic sound of the dense forests surrounding their hometown while riding their dance-party grooves to dizzying psychedelic peaks.

Compiled by Analog Africa, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba presents eight ultra-rare tracks of guitar and organ madness drawn from the band’s five albums recorded for Discos Universal between 1981 and 1987. Pressed on Sun Yellow colored vinyl, housed in a screen-printed jacket and strictly limited to 2000 copies, Sonido Verde is a definitive trip into the heart of the jungle.

The show is a biographical story about the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Reception to the series was overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising cast performances, direction, writing, cinematography, production values, and relatively accurate historical accounts of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. The Crown has received many awards and nominations, including all seven drama categories at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards in 2021 and two at the 2017 Golden Globes, including Best Television Series Drama. The fourth season features Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, as the story traces her life from her wedding 1947 to the present day. If the first album by Los Problems "Malditos banquetes" already introduced Ernesto Tabárez aka E.T as an unique character with a fierceful energy and sound, and second work "Vil" is proof of his skills as a hitmaker that should be mainstream in a more sane world, "El éxodo" appeared as best of both worlds, as a result, an album that was (and is) in a way, an intimate catharsis during a period of changes, expressed throughout songs with lyrical finesse that evoque Tabárez's obessions (from basketball to Steinbeck's work or the religious overtones of The Who-but with Uruguayan poetic identity of Darnauchans, Zitarrosa, Fernando Cabrera- All recurrent references in his work and interviews). Finesse aside, the album is also considered a shamelessly charged in Rock piece, that started to be considered, both locally as internationally, like a Zombie Genre, incapable of expressing anything relevant in these present times. An album that emerged from a personal crisis, climbed on the opposite direction of the intimate and light path of the indie genre, to shout and rasp, even in the single that broke through "Jordan", paradoxically made famous on that same indie audience, with a mix of post-teenage desolation, pop melodies and some Montevidean imaginary, this track helped E.T. Y Los Problems and "El éxodo" album to establish themselves as one of the last standing groups of Rioplatense rock scene.

Lamin Fofana debuts on Avian. The Sierra Leonean producer arrives on the label with Here Lies Universality, a brace of undulating sound design explorations – in equal parts tense and meditative; thorny and worked smooth. Despite the beatless nature of the compositions, Lamin Fafona’swork is imbued with the spirit of Detroit’s pioneering Techno experimentalists. As such, it is Ambient music that does not exist as a peripheral flavor to color the listeners own experience, but rather as a vehicle for expression that requires attention and observation. The artist uses sound as a vehicle to examine the historical movement – forced or otherwise, of Black people across the globe, and how this movement feeds into inequitable contemporary socio-political and economic power dynamics. Fofana explains that this latest missive, ‘rubs against liberal universalism and reflects on how the pandemic exacerbates existing contradictions and violence significantly and puts them in high relief.’ Opener Here Lies Universality, with its warbling, crystalline lead-synths and pitch-bent tonal interjections offers an introduction to this latest deep-sea rumination. Made at once near with layers of surface noise, but simultaneously fathoms deep thanks to delicate pulses in the low frequencies, it builds gently before subsiding purposefully but without resolution. Split subtly into three movements, follow up Bankrupt Utopia Sez Tell Me begins life with a rousing lead sequence that approaches crescendo before dissipating with washes of heavy modulation. The recording continues with a more conversational tone and that heavy surface noise returns once more to the fore, driving the work and providing a satisfying level of sonic intricacy. Finally, the piece segues into a soft, almost mournful reflection in its closing minutes. On the B1 the artist shares Here Lies Universality Redux, an alternative iteration of the title track. Soft and mediative in its early moments, the recording leaves its synth work behind near the mid-point and morphs into a dense matrix of aquatic sound design and field recording. Measure of Memory/ I Stagger and Remember continues to mine the Drexiyan palette to create a patchwork of shifting, granular sound architecture. Glistening in the high frequencies with timbral plucks and knocks giving the work a shape of sorts, there’s a palpable – almost unnerving,sense of movement throughout. Resounding Water closes the EP, an echo of Here Lies Universality Redux’s latter stages – but also a bookend, returning the listener to the depths after the glowing reverie that preceded. Live duo Aderal deliver their debut EP Ribah on Blush Recordings. Dropping on 18th November, the release marks their first EP, platformed by Verona-based label Blush Recordings. Proceed with caution. Based in Reggio Emilia in Italy, Nicolò and Reda, aka Aderal, are a live duo who produce techno in its all sprawling forms. Since 2016, the pair have combined their love for music production and created industrial textures, broken-beat techno, and EBM-flavoured melodies. Their musical output evokes shadowy atmospheres and somber moods, simmering with a dancefloor feel. After years of experimenting and crafting an identity that strays from the predictable and instead focuses on a collision of sonic palettes and genres, Aderal are writing their own story—one set to twist and turn, just like their music.

Sébastien Léger is one of the most influential electronic music producers with sold-out shows, number one singles, and the respect of his peers. However, the fame doesn't stop the chart-topping musician from pushing the boundaries even further.

Léger returns with his new release on Guy J's Malta-based label Lost & Found and once again proves the hype about his artistry is real. The two-track material delivers almost eighteen minutes of pure brilliance. The conceptually consistent sound makes the opening and the closing work a piece of the seamless universe.

Nziria, the new experimental project by artist Tullia Benedicta, debuts on Gabber Eleganza’s imprint Never Sleep with a full-length titled Xxybrid. Recorded during a period of worldwide lockdown, the album represents the artist’s psychomagic act to redeem their Neapolitan origins and to reinterpret some of the topoi of the Neapolitan culture. Nziria integrates the main forms and themes of the Neomelodic song, while regenerating the cis-heteronormative scenario. Through a powerful and androgynous singing, they reinterpret the stereotyped, almost archetypal stories of the Neomelodic genre, welcoming narratives of the Lgbtqi+ community and singing of queer love and mercurial identities. Through the album, Nziria re-appropriates the Neapolitan dialect, which they learnt from their grandparents: the word itself, 'nziria, is an almost untranslatable dialect word, indicating the obstinate and unprovoked tantrum of children when they’re tired. Neomelodic music, a genre stemming in the mid-Seventies, became a distinctive sound of Southern Italy with the voices of artists such as Nino D’Angelo and Gigi D’Alessio. Being intrinsically linked to illegal practices of divulgation, this genre narrates social collapses and emotional possessivity through hyper-sentimental lyrics and lightweight pop atmospheres, mostly enacting standardised and discriminative patterns. Hard Neomelodic is the term chosen by the artist to describe their quest, generating a sonic space in which disruptive tonalities such as those of the Neomelodic and Hardcore are combined to celebrate hybridity as an arena for unrestricted self-determination. As a non-binary artist, Nziria draws from their experience to tackle borderless concepts such as those of otherness, diversity and inclusivity. Their quest in metamorphosing heteronormative and discriminative narratives of Neomelodic applies to the restless battle against genre discriminations, often rooted in Western society. Nziria coats the vivid Neapolitan realm populated by pagan symbols, theatrical characters, chimerical figures such as that of the Femminiello, sacred effigies, hyperbolic beliefs with sophisticated sonic avant-garde, inspired by the Hardcore Gabber, Trance and Italodance 2000 tonalities which characterised their adolescent clubbing experience in Ravenna. “I tried to encapsulate in this record that small symbolic universe which, for me at least, is Neapolitan culture. Some of these images are reminiscences of my childhood, while others are things I discovered a lot later, when I decided to look back at my origins and embrace them with pride. I chose to include references to history, beliefs, traditions, to celebrate the Tarantella in a different but somehow related key, and to start the record with a magical figure, the Femminiello, because I wanted this album to be like that: hybrid, mysterious and lucky." 1 Xxybrid shapes as a holy architecture, at times dense and visceral - as in the lovesick and nostalgic verses of Amam Ancora - at times suspended and jagged - as in the fragmented ravey crescendo of Hard Tarantella, a remake of the Neapolitan Tarantella, in which the artist included a conversation with a worshipper on the concept of faith, recorded inside a church in Naples. The sacred is one of the cornerstones of Nziria’s debut, being a distinctive element of Naples' magnetism intertwining absolute reverence for Christian icons with pagan superstitions, as for the Devil in ‘ E Riavule 77, which in the Neapolitan Tombola is associated with the number 77, around which a Femminiello tells a myth. Nostalgia is another central theme of the record, best represented in Pensiero, in which this feeling of nostalgia for a loved one overlaps with the one for a place, that is also a time, a golden past painful to return to; after all, nostalgia is etymologically "pain of return". Symbolism and spiritualism reach their peak in the final track, ‘O Dolor, conceived by Nziria as a moment of nirvana in which their voice, frantic arpeggios and granular synthesis reunite to then greet the listener with infinite meditative space. Xxybrid will be released on 20th May 2022 on Never Sleep in vinyl and digital format.

James Enard was raised in Lafayette and got his start with the Ohio based group "Perfect Element". This all happened during the groups session time in Louisiana recording with Jimmie Mouton and Michael Lockett (Two essential figures form Louisiana).

James played an important role with the group and actually wrote their song "Let Me Be The One For You

" while he was laid up in the hospital. He parted ways from them after the group made it clear they didn't want to tour even turning down a gig to open for Prince in New Orleans. He linked up with a fella named Kennith and started Kingdom Records and released "How Close". James and Kennith had a falling out over creative differences and as luck would have it James was invited to play at the Apollo with a group "For U2 See".

Last year's 'Will We Ever Dance Again' 12" was a big one for Coyote who now follow it up and impress once more. First up they do so on 'Baka Re-Rub' by paying their respects to the iconic Jon da Silva remix of The Fads track. It's steamy, tropical, full of loose drum energy and jangling synths that lightened up any club. On the flip you find 'No Entry' which is a big house anthem plenty of classic tops, uplifting arpeggios and pianos, and dramatic strings next to big acid lines. It's an all out, hands in the air gem that brings the good times.
