Mariya Takeuchi is set to release her long-awaited original album after 10 years! This marks the 12th original album by singer-songwriter Mariya Takeuchi, following her 2014 release 'trad'. The album includes theme songs from movies, terrestrial TV dramas, Netflix anime, TV wide shows, and news programs, as well as TV commercial songs. It also features collaborations with Anri, harmonies with Tatsuro Yamashita on Western music covers, and self-covers of songs she provided to other artists, many of which are being released for the first time. This album, a culmination of the past decade, boasts a rich variety of styles and arrangements across its 18 tracks. The deluxe edition includes a CD plus a video collection titled "Precious Live Collection". This features 16 selected performances from her highly acclaimed first live stream, "live Turntable" in 2021, and the subsequent "live Turntable Plus", which included additional unreleased footage. Also included is the performance of "Genki wo Dashite" from the 2012 outdoor event "sweet Love Shower" held at Lake Yamanaka. This rare footage, featuring Mariya as a guest performer backed by the Tatsuro Yamashita Band, is being released for the first time ever, having not been aired by Space Shower TV, the event's organizer, at the time. This deluxe edition provides fans with a total of 17 video tracks, making it a must-have collection.

NZ power poppers Best Bets present their second full-length album The Hollow Husk of Feeling. Recorded in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand from late 2023 to early 2024, their sophomore album comes from a spiritual place that will be familiar to those who have absorbed the lyrics of Olly Crawford Ellis and James Harding through their work in Best Bets, and garage punks Transistors. The musical palette is expanded this time through the addition of songs penned by primary bass player Joe Sampson (Salad Boys, T54)—who also recorded, mixed and mastered the album in his signature style. But where Best Bets’ first album On An Unhistoric Night was a kaleidoscopic jaunt that intertwined obscure references with musings on life, their second album places at the forefront a feeling one suspects many know well. Sure, it wouldn’t be a Best Bets album without nods to things like Australian reality television of the early 90s, Mortal Kombat (1995), apocalyptic novels, Seinfeld, and automotive history. Even so, there’s an undeniable feeling permeating the album that a threshold has been crossed – be that out in the world, or perhaps even closer to home. As purveyors of guitar-driven power / jangle / fuzz pop, familiar sonic touchstones abound—think The Replacements, Teenage Fanclub, Redd Kross. Yet things spill over in all directions and the album is tinged with elements of post-punk, glam and indie rock.

An interaction with a bigoted fan inspired “The Others,” forcing Red to make clear the quartet’s Lgbtqia+ allyship. For starters, don't let the name fool you, this is Richmond, VA—not L.A. Coinciding with the beginning of the 1980s, the spread of punk's mutation into the harsher exertion known as hardcore punk began to spill across the continental United States. The music was becoming harder and faster, straying from the style and formula that some of the younger participants were starting to grow bored of and Richmond was no exception to this phenomena. Following the 1981 implosions of local punk groups MOD Subs and Disruptors, the illustrious Mike Rodriguez formed RED Cross alongside friends Frank Gresham, Scott Price and Alford Faulkner. Their mission: to create and play hardcore punk adhering to the motto of "loud Fast Rules" and they did just that! The next year or so saw the band leaving a trail of broken glass and harshed mellows throughout the greater metropolitan Richmond area, to put it lightly. In early 1982, the boys entered Studio 2 at Union Theological Seminary under the cover of night to record 12 tracks that were intended to be the band's debut 12". Alas, as bands tend to do, they eventually broke up due to internal conflicts, which led to the almost immediate formation of Richmond legends White Cross; arguably the final form of Mikey Rod's drive to create fast, hard and ugly music." Includes a 16 page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by surviving members Frank Gresham and Scott Price.

Esoteric, yet oddly vivacious, Athens legends Limbo District never released any music during their 25 month career from April 1981 until their less-than-ceremonious dissolution in May 1983. They did several tours up and down the east coast in addition to playing local haunts like 688, TV Dinner, the I&I, the Last Resort, Tyrone’s and, of course, the 40 Watt. Over the past year, Chunklet has released four singles and restored the apparition of Limbo District to where the world can now experience their unique take on no-wave. Primordial Void, in tandem with Chunklet, is proud to release a cassette compilation of their singles along with never before heard live material from the Nitery in 1982. Sin-Gles! (Plus Live) sheds a spotlight on an ignored (yet pivotal!) band from Athens’ golden-age. ‘One More Death’ and ‘Goatbrain’ are spectacular curtain-raisers, embodying a hedonistic spirit driven by incisive funk and possessed by merciless fuzz/wah-drenched guitar. Yet elsewhere, the band’s love of hip hop is the fuel for the end-credits-epic album closer ‘Ourobourus’ which marries infectious chant to breathless Lalo Schifrin-style breakbeat action. As Brad Dourif’s character Hazel Moates intones in the 1979 movie Wiseblood, “Where you come from is gone; where you thought you were going weren’t never there. The Primevals belongs to a different time, a different place, an imagined world of monsters, myth and magic that has only ever existed within the confines of classic fantasy cinema. Even if its chief architect, David Allen, had lived and the film had been released in the 1990s, it would have still been out of synch with the zeitgeist. Fifty years ago, filmmaker David Allen registered the story for the film that would become The Primevals. His goal was to elevate the art of stop-motion animation into more serious, thoughtful storytelling. In the mid-1960s, the film had started as an homage to Edgar Rice Burroughs, reminiscent of the fantasy films by Ray Harryhausen that had impressed David as a child. He sadly died in 1999 and the task of completing the film fell to his visual effects colleague Chris Endicott. Award winning and Emmy nominated composer Richard Band is primarily known as a composer for Horror and Genre films. He was recently awarded the Mosma Film Music Festival’s “life Achievement Award” and the subsequent two nights of concerts in Malaga, Spain included an encore in which The Primevals main title for full orchestra had its live premiere. The music represents a glorious hark back to the classic scores that fuelled so many of the Harryhausen films of the 1950s and 1960s. A delirious thrill-ride through the joys of monsters, ray-guns, spaceships and good old-fashioned stop motion animation.

“‘Please Stay’, by The Cryin’ Shames, was the last song by producer Joe Meek to enter the UK Top 40, peaking at No. 26. Released on 18 February 1966, the song should have reached the top, but its progress was held back by the fact that the Decca record label had not pressed enough copies to meet demand. The collaboration should have been long and successful for both of them, but the Cryin’ Shames story is cursed with bad luck and, sadly, within a year of the success of ‘Please Stay’ the band broke up and Joe Meek died. This compilation brings together a first part of the material collected by Cherry Red on the double CD ‘The Tea Chest Tapes’ . The group began as The Bumblies, formed in Liverpool in 1963 by bassist George Robinson and singer Joey Kneen who had previously been in a band called The Calderstones, that included Tom Evans, who later went on to form the group Badfinger. The Bumblies’ name was taken from a television series of the same name featuring Michael Bentine. The rest of the line-up included Charlie Crane (vocals, harmonica), John Bennett (guitar), Phil Roberts (keyboards) and Charlie Gallagher (drums). Charlie Crane would be known in addition as ‘Carl’ or ‘Paul’ to avoid confusion with the other Charlie in the group. Joe Meek didn’t like the band’s choice of name so they changed it to The Cryin’ Shames. Ritchie Routledge replaced Bennett (guitar) after the recording of their debut single ‘Please Stay’. Derek Cleary (bass/guitar) replaced Robinson in time to play on their second single ‘Nobody Waved Goodbye’. After the original Cryin’ Shames fell apart, Routledge and Crane formed a group known as Paul And Ritchie And The Crying Shames with new members Brian Norris (bass), Mike Espie (guitar), Pete Byrne (organ) and Paul Commerford (drums). They released one single, ‘September In The Rain’. The group (as The Bumblies) auditioned for Joe Meek in late October or early November 1965 - the exact date cannot be ascertained because Meek’s tapes contain very little information, and only one or two of the more than seven hundred tapes actually bear a recording date...” (liner notes extracted from the Cherry Red’s booklet made by Mr. Craig Newton)

Tetsu Shibuya, better known as simply Tetsu or Brisa is a Japanese producer and DJ known for works on the iconic Japanese Jazzy Sport imprint, King Street sub-label Nite Grooves and his own Brisa Music. Leading the EP is title-track 'Stir', in collaboration with Turbojazz Brisa delivers a classic slice of deep house built upon layers of bright stab sequences and loose organic percussion. Detroit's beloved Jon Dixon turns his hand to 'Stir' next, encapsulating the soul of his hometown in reshaping fragments of the original composition. The original of 'Reverie' opens the B-side, laying down a broken rhythm, low-pitched vocal hooks and elongated bass grooves for a more bruk tinged feel. Byron The Aquarius then extracts the core of 'Reverie' and spins it into bumpy, subtly nuanced house workout. Lastly the third original 'Flux' rounds out the release, shifting deeper in funkinfused realms with a playful plucked bass groove and heavily swung drums.
