This record is different. It is different from what might be expected of Jan Emil Mlynarski by those who know him, from sold-out shows and platinum albums of his bands – Jazz Band Młynarski – Masecki and Warsaw Dance Combo, as an old-timer, curator and reenactor of pre-World War II Warsaw's plush dancehalls and backyards folklore. Quite likely they may not recognize him until the last song, when he removes his shaman mask and bows down: Yeah, that's really me, folks, your good ol' Jan Emil, the entertainer. They might not have even known that he ever played drums because in his flagship bands, clad in a white tux in the former or in a Peaky Blinder hat in the latter, he sings and plays mandolin banjo. In fact, Młynarski has been a drummer for a lot longer than a singer. He stands clear of the jazz mainstream but is active on the progressive scene. A record he contributed to, trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski's 2022 release The Individual Beings, was recognized by Downbeat magazine as "excellent" and awarded the highest rating of five stars.
However, this is the first instrumental record to bear his name. As an album by a drummer, it stands out from other records, especially as it features drums as the principal content rather than the performance by a band with a drummer as the leader. It's all about drums, there is neither an articulate melody – because the melodies that are there are only micro-linesencased in ostinato modules – nor is harmony as an intentional chord progression – because whatever harmony-wise there is, is rather a product of the counterpoint of overlapping voices. All sounds other than the drums make only a riverbed through which runs a raging stream of rhythms. And indeed, this record took off just with this stream. At first all the drums were recorded live onto an analog tape, all at once, without overdubs or editing. After that, synthesizer riffs were added, and the record was ultimately assembled on tape without the use of computers or complex postproduction, which sets it apart from most releases today.
Młynarski the drummer acknowledges that he follows the trail beaten by Art Blakey, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, and Billy Higgins, but he walks it in his own strides. He treats the jazz drumming with specific reversed engineering by decompiling the jazz drum kit originally compiled by the pioneer jazz drummers from an array of instruments that had made their way from a jungle to New Orleans, first to Congo Square and then to street brass bands.
This takes him back to the jungle, his drums don't sound like jazz drums, the snare is rare, and the hi-hat and ride aren't there at all. Instead, there are drums and bells from Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire. He doesn't sound like a jazz drummer either, but like a gang of drummers, each playing their own rhythm, and it's hard to believe that all this is the work of one man.
Not only his drumware comes from the jungle, but also the software – his approach to rhythm and time. Its essence is polyrhythm and ostinato. The polyrhythmic matters were unveiled to Młynarski and Piotr Zabrodzki, his creative partner in many projects and co-composer/producer of this album, by the legendary eccentric veteran-drummer Władysław Jagiełło, who introduced them, aged thirteen, to his concept and practice of "17 Latino rhythms at once". Ostinato, an obstinate repetition of a phrase or rhythm, "arrests" time, turning its linear course into cyclical in-place rotations. This is specific not only to African music but also to cultural music of other regions and differs from Western artistic music in that it does not "run" to fulfil an aesthetic intention but "stays" to provide the framework for recurrent routines of communal proceedings.

The seed for NO Escape was planted in 1989 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at Tim’s apartment. Tim Singer (of Boiling Point ‘zine at the time) and Steve Crudello (of Turning Point at the time) met while living in NYC. About a year later, Steve and Tim (both Jersey kids) became housemates in Ocean City, New Jersey. Steve started jamming with Chris Brisiel from Delaware on drums and Ben Lerman from Philadelphia on bass. After a few practices and a few songs were written, Tim soon tried out and NO Escape went from being a fun idea to a reality. And they hit the ground running. It was a fast-paced, productive, and memorable couple of years where they made lifelong friends, played with some incredible bands, and had some fun along the way. This record captures all the studio material recorded from 1990 to 1993 with new mixes and mastering compiled together for the first time.

The final solo album from our dearest Frank Hammersland (1969-2023) "The Ocean Sleeps Alone" will be released on 11. October. Imaginary Eyes is a sweeping, ambitious work that conjures a sound-world with soaring strings, heavy rhythm section grooves, mysterious flute melodies, triumphant brass and McGathey’s expressive touch at the piano. From the frenetic thump of “The Staircase” to the melancholy noir of “Midnight”, to the wild, driving, twists and turns of “Nothing will be as it once was…”, these compositions feature dramatic dynamic shifts as solo piano moments evolve into lush orchestral arrangements. Several years in the making, McGathey started composing this music in 2020 during long periods of isolation, turning to his childhood upright piano for solace. “These all started as solo piano works,” says McGathey, “but during that lonely time, I could feel a subliminal yearning in them to be played with as many musicians as possible.” Leaning into that idea, he drew on the talents of nearly a dozen up-and-coming musicians in Chicago’s jazz and classical scenes to create an epic studio-orchestra sound for this record. this one is getting write ups in the Northeast and will continue to draw buzz. This album features Starz, emerging from the remnants of the 1970s pop band Looking Glass. Formed by Peter Sweval and Jeff Grob, the band shifted towards heavy metal upon signing with Capitol Records in 1976. We’ve been working on this one for a while and it does not disappoint! We initially planned on doing a one sided cassette for a single long track. The band brought us 2 crushing and engaging works of force and finesse that are a never tiring 16+ and 20+ minutes each. We were so moved we decided there was no course, but to also offer it up on vinyl. In addition to producing their usual brand of pissed-off Metal/Hardcore, the members of Dissolve have always dabbled in playing strange improvisational music. A few years back, the band started recording their rehearsals in an attempt to bring something tangible back from these sonic excursions into the far-out, deep space that they would travel to together. Burnt is the recorded artifact of these explorations and features two of Dissolve’s heaviest, and longest, songs ever. 'Shot Rocks' and 'Sunshine' crush the listener with the brutal, down-tuned riffs and raving, street prophet vocals that people would expect from Dissolve, but then they also take a lot of unexpected twists and turns into blotter acid territory. The songs go deep into shadow realms of ambient whispers and electronic whirs that lead to gonzo guitar solos and bursts of noise. There’s a lot of wild sounds going on during these songs. HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present a brand-new mini-album from DEMONCY, Diabolica Blasphemiae.For those who truly know black metal, DEMONCY require no introduction: ever restless and always surprising, their name is legendary for stirring an infinitely deep cauldron of black magick that's completely their own. One of the earliest black metal bands on American soil, DEMONCY have gone through myriad lineups over the past 30-plus years, but they've always been guided by the vision of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Ixithra. In their wake, they've left landmark recordings like Within the Sylvan Realms of Frost and Joined in Darkness, which were both originally recorded in the mid '90s despite their eventual release year of 1999. In the mid-70s, the self-produced album "Knights Company" was secretly produced and sold in very limited quantities as a 2-disc set (LP + EP) by members of the Knights, a light music department at Kitakyushu City University.

Not only is it a rarity, being almost unknown even among connoisseurs, but this work boasts high musicality, fusing a black soul feeling strongly influenced by James Brown and others, with a bluesy and melodic West Coast sound and AOR feel.

Its charm has not faded at all even now, many years after its production, and it continues to shine brilliantly.

A miraculous masterpiece that is the trajectory of youth by the sharp young people of northern Kyushu who once dedicated themselves to music!

It has been reborn as a compilation album with condensed content, complete with high-quality remastering by 8ronix (Bullpen lab.) and a delusional band designed by osagodard (browse depart/luminous body)!

Our miracle was triggered by a single word from the late Otaki. "Why don't you make an original and put it on an LP?" Everyone wondered if it was really possible to do something like that. But gradually, their eyes began to change. From there, they spent six months creating their own music. They wrote songs, arranged them together, practiced, stayed up all night recording, and even made a vinyl chloride record. I'll never forget the help from friends other than the band members.
