Formed in Philadelphia during the Covid days of fall 2021, Bitter Wish is a psychedelic power trio comprising guitarist John Comune, bassist Clint Takeda (Bardo Pond/Double Wig) and percussionist Scott Verrastro (Kohoutek/ Heavy Lidders). While the band doesn't stray far from its Bardo Pond and Kohoutek roots, they incorporate more repetition and minimalism into their fuzzy vibe. Freeform psych—the children of Fire Music parents secretly raised on Sabbath... Candle Finger, Bitter Wish’s debut full-length, is comprised of two side-long jammers. Both sides are untitled, with side A starting out with nearly 10 minutes of psychedelic bass swells, light percussion, and soloing guitar, guiding the listener down the tunnel, just in time for the proverbial freight-train heading their way. It eventually builds into a faster-than-mid tempo scorcher, with heavily phaser-drenched bass, steady drumming with just the right number of fills, and that soloing guitar, still leading the listener on through to the other side of the mountain pass, before chilling things out before its time to flip the record. On the other hand, side B puts it right out there. Right off the bat, this is a thick, heavy, and plodding slab of awesomeness. Destroying everything in its path, before taking a slight breath for a bit, and then cranking up the speed to a manic frenzy. The last 5 or so minutes are spent winding things down, encouraging the listener to flip the record and start things all over again. Recorded live at Main Drag Music in Brooklyn NY, in July 2023. Mastered by James Plotkin. Edition of 284 copies.

For almost 10 years and with 3 albums on the clock, Voilaaa has established itself with a unique style, reviving
African rhythms and atmospheres in the colors of Disco dancefloors and Funky arrangements, all often
accompanied by lyrics and vocals tinged with humor and commitment.
As a result, the Afro-Tropical adventure launched by producer Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart today leaves behind
a host of hits (“On te l’avait dit”, “Spies Are Watching Me”, “Ben Bene La”, …), as well as trips around the globe
and as many gigs and festivals, but also and above all numerous and lasting collaborations with singers like
Lass, Pat Kalla, Sir Jean, Ayuune Sule, Rama Traore, or Fouley Badiaga, the latter which also marks its great
return on two tracks of the album.
With C'est tout, Voilaaa returns to us without revisiting this unstoppable recipe, while seasoning things with a
more Latin and Caribbean inspiration, brought back in Bruno Hovart's suitcases after several stays in South
America in recent years. Introduced last spring with the release of a first maxi single, this new opus once again
delivers hit after hit.
As on the already famous “Faché” alongside Pat Kalla, which displays all the classic assets of Voilaaa’s sound:
punchy Afrobeat horns, woozy chords and crunchy clavinet licks rising above a low-slung, hypnotic, dub discomeets-
Afro-boogie groove. The rest of the album is not to be outdone with a total of 14 wild tracks entirely
composed by an unstoppable Bruno Hovart.
Two exceptions confirm the rule, a beautiful interpretation of the song "Love and Death" by Ebo Taylor, where
Voilaaa's Afro skills perfectly melt with Angolan and Brazilian vapors, beamed by Joao Selva's lovely vocals; as
well as a magical cover of “Too Young to Die”, transporting Jamiroquai to the crossroads of Africa and the
Antilles, carried by the superb vocal performance of singer Olivya (Dowdelin) for a first collaboration.
Well, Voilaaa is back as its best, “that’s all” (C’est tout).

Parisian label Chuwanaga is proud to present their latest 12-inch series release from Jéroboam, "Brexit Funk / Peckham Night". The band, also known in the streets of Paris and Montreuil as Echoes Of, is celebrating Britfunk and the rich musical heritage of Greater London, reflecting their deep appreciation for the iconic Britfunk sound. After several successful collaborations celebrating the genre with the label at the infamous New Morning venue in Paris, Jéroboam has crafted two brilliant compositions for this EP.

"Brexit Funk" is an electrifying homage to the classic London Jazz-Funk scene of the late seventies and early eighties. It is a tremendous track, reminiscent of the early sounds of Incognito and Freeez, infused with the energy of Hot Cuisine and Hi-Tension. It features a standout brass section, amazing solo performances, and a strong rhythm section. Having played in London and now across the whole UK, the band decided to ironically name this track as a musical memory of this strange transition.

On the B-side, you’ll find "Peckham Night" and its dub version, an outstanding composition that perfectly emulates the late seventies soul-jazz vibe. Beautiful vocals by singer Agyei blend seamlessly into this perfect composition. All along, you really feel the band coming together, bringing out the best of their soul. It really is the work of passionate and experienced musicians who have built strong confidence playing together for years.

Jéroboam is a group of 10 Parisian funkateers recognized as one of the biggest funk outfits on the current French scene. They already boast extensive live experience and a solid reputation between Paris and London. In addition to their original and popular tributes to American funk cities of the 70s-80s, they have also gained attention as a formidable backing band for Howard Johnson, Junior Giscombe, and Kyoto Jazz Massive. Having also released two highly acclaimed EPs on the Space Grapes label, they continue to work on their own original compositions under the name Jéroboam, with their debut album scheduled for release in 2025.

Now for the first time on Source Records, this 12“ kicks off with Aspiration 2010, a subtle and slow building Deep Acid House track evolving across the entire side A. On the B-side the title track “Something ’Bout The D“ takes the vibe back to 90s oldschool Detroit inspired house music - spiced with some 909 euphoria, some uplifting chords and a technoid, abstract but soothing melody. Closing out the 12“ on B2 is the much beloved and hard to find Move D contribution to Out To Lunch’s “Airbag Craftworks Vol. 2“ compilation “Marshmellow Boots“. ”The Last Will and Testament” is a concept record of sorts. A restless musical journey in a way mirroring my own relationship with music as a consumer of it," narrates band leader Mikael Åkerfeldt. "I pick up something here, dismiss something there. I worship and I hate music at the same time. This ambivalence leads me down some type of creative path of my own and then, all of a sudden, a collection of songs has been written. Best case scenario, these songs are good enough to impress the band. Good enough for the ”powers that be” in terms of the industry. Good enough for ”you”?! I love this record. I have to say it (write it). Maybe I’m proud even? There are some familiar ingredients in there I suppose. Most of our music has sprung from the same source, so I guess it’s not much of a shocker if it’s going to sound like ”us”. I’m a bit in awe of what we did with ”The Last Will and Testament”. It feels like a dream. There is some ”coherence" and ” songwriting skills” I hope, but what do I know? I tend to favour the ”strange” over the ”obvious”, but I feel like I’m in the minority, and that’s fine. So…fair warning! Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the release of the sought-after soundtrack for cult 1980 French film "Clara Et Les Chics Types," featuring Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil and the Splendid troupe actors. The Jazz-Funk soundtrack, composed by Michel Jonasz and featuring Manu Katché and Sylvin Marc has never been reissued since 1980. ). Together they weaved a mainly instrumental blend of Jazz funk, reggae and pop which matched the narrative perfectly. Although all the ingredients were there for a success, the film unfortunately stalled and so did the soundtrack. ‘Off Days in London’ is an EP made by Illa J (Detroit) and Ash Walker. The serendipitous meeting of these two innovative musicians happened in London in 2023, while Illa J took a break from his European tour dates and found solace in Ash Walker’s studio. In between a busy schedule of radio interviews and brand endorsements, Ash & Illa found a way to write and record 4 tracks which are a breath of fresh air to any hip hop or jazz fan. The workrate and talent is apparent from track one, and this EP will definitely leave the listener wanting a full length project from the pair. Both artists bonded over many similarities, including food choices and musical inspiration ( they both featured Detroit legend Amp Fiddler on their latest studio albums). This provided the perfect base for them to cook up some soulful gumbo in the studio and prepare it for the world. When BBE’s founder Peter Adarkwah caught wind of the project and the possibility of releasing it he said ‘Thank You’ . The EP sees Ash & Illa J share controls at the production helm, while John Yancey offers vocals, both singing and rapping on the project. We catch Illa in rare form, effortlessly drifting between the two styles with grown subject matter. This project was born out of 96 hours of organic collaboration - begun by a chance brunch supplied by the savant keyboardist Abram Al and eggslut. Leave your shoes at the door and come inside for some real music.

Following Warren Zevon's death in 2003, his son Jordan Zevon discovered 126 unreleased outtakes and demos in a piano-sized touring case. This discovery would be distilled down to the best of these recordings and eventually released as a 2CD set titled Preludes released on May 1, 2007. Furious, relentless, maybe less starry-eyed but at the same time profound, celestial and poetic, London concrete-punks Qlowski are back with ‘The Wound’ their second album on Maple Death & Feel It Records, a record that feels like the culmination of their lives, politics and sense of community. Still led by the dual-force of Mickey and Cecilia, Qlowski has expanded into a collective with the addition of Christian, Lucy and James, creating a sense of urgency and sweeping palette that was only hinted at on their debut ‘Quale Futuro?’.

Dream-punk, propulsive rhythms, oblique kiwi-pop, dark punk are still part of their vocabulary but the band smashes borders with kosmische soundscapes, art-pop ballads, industrial beats and funked-up low-thud. Sonically impeccable, loaded with ear candy, the album was recorded in Dublin at Sonic Studios by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band) one of today’s most innovative producers and ‘The Wound’ ebbs and flows through syncopated grooves, abstraction and bliss, a work of contrast, dark-soft-heavy full cycle but mainly euphoric. The addition of drum pads, drum machines, electronics, analog pedals and field recordings are part of this process, it almost feels like a punk album for the club culture, where bodies and sweat are just one gear in bringing a community together.

Full of staples ‘Desire’ mixes anarcho-punk bleakness with New Order-ish ecstasy and Mickey’s commanding vocal presence, ‘Surrender’ almost feels like the Cure on a Martin Hannett diet of pills and reverb chambers, ‘It May Change’ and ‘Mastering The Motions’ dance on the cusp of angular funk, all wiry and bouncy recalling Pylon but also euro icons Kleenex. ‘Praxis’ and ‘Stronger Than’ show how far Qlowski has come, dream-pop ballads that shine though analog synths (Siel Orchestra, Juno) and Ceci’s heavenly delivery.

De upptäckte snabbt att de delade en stor nyfikenhet och respekt för den svenska traditionella fiolmusiken. Loriken var en beryktad spelman från Orsa. Han stal kyrkvinet och kastade sten på länsmans fönster. Jagad av denne länsman flydde han med båt till Amerika och försvann. Han lämnade efter sig tre vackra melodier som Svenska Folkjazzkvartetten nu tolkar på sitt andra album Loriken. Albumet släpps den 22 november digitalt och på limiterad vinyl via Chimp Limbs.
